I think this is now my favourite vocal recording you've ever uploaded - The presence of character you hold in the lows, and the power & commanding in the mids is extraordinary - Not even mentioning the highs and how masterfully you navigated them, going from bright, pingy, and pure to cries of woe and searching, all while maintaining a beautiful sound. This entire performance had me engaged and loving every second; amazing work, Peter - You're a prime role model for future bass-baritone(s)

As Austrian I have to say that it is nice to hear you singing in German language. Good pronounciation, especially as it isn't that easy to sing in German when you're used to Italian Opera or English songs. Great job!

I appreciate opera so much, because it's precise and beautiful. Not just singing, but acting, and the amazing thing is you focus mainly on that one singer and no one else

Terrific! You had great presence in your voice throughout your range, and the tone was very rich and pleasing. I wondered whether you could make a bit more of 'Wo bist du, wo bist du, mein geleibt land!', it feels like it could be a bit more animated, before collapsing back down into the weariness of the endless journey ... just a thought. A trivial thing to say, perhaps, but I didn't see the footsore exile wearing a light blue jacket and a colourfully patterned tie. Kinda looked like you might have just missed your flight.
Loved it. Great voice, and from a linguistic point of view, I noticed one small diphtongization, other than that I would not have been able to tell that you are not a native. Well done

What’s your lowest notes as a bass baritone mate ?
His lowest consistent notes are around B1-C2, but iirc he's gone as low as G#1 on a good day
@@DubiousDubs so is it the upper register that clarifies him as bass-baritone over just purely a bass? Or is bass considered even lower than C2? I’m talking in classical terms
@@michaeljoseph7160 bass baritone is a sub classification of Bass, and so it's got a lot of overlap. I'll try to explain this as best I can
Essentially, range does not determine voice type, its more like a pre requisite for voice type (having bass notes does not automatically make you a bass, but its impossible to be a bass without them. I've met baritones with Bb1s). Timbre and tessitura are what determines it after range is factored in. Bass baritones tend to have a timbre that is slightly leaning more toward baritone while still maintaining bass resonance, and they also tend to have a slightly higher tessitura than a more standard bass, and more capability of using notes above standard bass range
In the case of Peter, I've talked with him before and he says the lowest he would go in an opera is around f2 or f#2 (though he obviously can go lower, it just wouldn't be heard well in opera) and as high as G4. This is fairly common for people who market themselves as bass baritones from what I've seen.

@@DubiousDubs I agree on everything except that G4 is normal for bass baritones - that is high baritone territory, almost encroaching tenor range.
F4 should be within a baritone's repertoire, however, regardless of high/bass timbre.

You sings the German "Wanderer" by Schubert without an accent and with a lot of empathy. The "Lieder" by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Wolf are not easy to interpret, even for German singers. I am impressed!!

Excellent Bravo. Wonderful big round sound. It seems you are projecting effortlessly. I am not a musician but I have listened to classical music about 8 hours a day for 4 decades. You also seem naturally musical, a nice rightness. I was mostly listening, but I like the few facial expressions as well, conveying you were feeling it. Again, congratulations.

@@PeterBarber haha save the large gestures for the stadium performances which you will be doing! Peter, have you seen/studied the Maria Callas' masterclass sessions? She mentioned asking conductor Tullio Serafin what her gestures should be when singing a concert and not a opera performance. He told her to simply listen to the music with her body. I am paraphrasing from memory.

as an stumbler in your Vids, and an Metalhead with great ignorance of Tonal Science, just let me tell you, i heard this many Times, only living 40 minutes away from Bayreuth and the Wagner Academy. and often been to the Meistersinger Concerts in my Hom,etown, Nürnberg since i am 6 yrs till now.
you nailed it, as far as i can say. Tonal warmth etc like said, im an headbanger, not suited to analyze, but it was on point, like said, and the crescendos and decresendos i really love. did nearly understand every word, cudos for that too.

facial expressions are scary and a bit distracting.....but you look very smart in your suit.
The text/story is quite dark and ominous - it wouldn’t make much sense to be smiling throughout! The facial expressions are meant to help tell the story so I’m glad they’re a bit scary 😌
Как по мне, это драматический баритон, не больше, басом не пахнет.
Это явный бас-баритон. Тесситура тут очень низкая. Последняя нота - Ми бемоль большой октавы. Это на тон ниже тесситуры бас-баритона в любой опере, и прозвучала она хорошо.
Бас-баритон - не сильно низкий голос. Бас-баритон - это ниже среднего.
P.S. "чистый" баритон - самый часто встречаемый голос
