This was an EXPERIENCE 🔥 This was my FIRST-TIME reaction/analysis to not only this song, but my first time EVER hearing Nightwish. I absolutely loved it -- powerhouse vocals, heavy drums, showmanship, flamethrowers, what more do you want? Hope you all enjoy my commentary :]
170 requests and you're about ready to fall down either a Nightwish rabbit hole or a Floor Jansen solo catalog rabbit hole. (Nightwish catalog goes back through two earlier female leads to 1997 - Floor goes back through several bands starting at age 16 (she's 32 here) and just with the band about a month). Either path you'll get to have Floorgasms, but I have to say that starting with GLS you qued up just about the best live performance of this Century captured on video. So, being a vocalist yourself, if you're interested in more of Floor alone, look through her catalog of performances on the show Beste' Zangers 2019. She was unknown pretty much in the Dutch music scene and with her peers when made her appearance on the show. My personal favorites from this show are her solo cover of Shallow, her duet on Phantom of the Opera, her German language operettic cover of Vilja Lied, and grab a tissue for Don't Know About Love - plus she has her own channel which I somehow would not be surprised if you subbed to it. I see you took on a reaction to Dimash, whom I consider a pretty special vocalist but am not a fan at all - too often comes across as a vocal circus sideshow. But he does have a smashing range he can cover, which is my problem with it cause he uses the entire range way too often on most performances. I bring up Dimash as a segue to another foreign singer who you actually might find interesting because of her bass voice -- no, I'm just kidding, but she is a true lyrical contralto who is now 18 and been on stage since she was 6. No one who has listened to her failed to be surprised by the timbre of her voice, though a few have been creeped out by it (few being the operative word). She has a rather extensive catalog, a lot through tv shows which are heavily policed by the copyright owner but still reacted to. She is a favorite of Elizabeth Zharoff so you shouldn't think me a total flake. While she sings English covers, what I would consider her true essence vocally are shown in these three songs: Derniere Danse (long version) a French pop song by Indila Rechenka - (River) a Russian folk type song Crow - a Russian pop song Yet when I say pop songs, they are not arranged in a pop sounding production. I suggest you look over her wiki, (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Ankudinova) and/or ask Elizabeth for her opinion. So I'll put you on my list Peter and see if you find time to listen to Diana, Floor and Nightwish at Wacken 2013's performance of EverDream (my second most favorite piece that fits your 3 min time frame mostly for the vocal support from the bassist.) Enjoyed your in-depth reaction. Seldom do I tolerate a lot of pauses in the middle of verses on GLS because the majority of reactors don't really have a clue about music. You are really one of the few who made it worth while to listen. Thanks!
Welcome to the rabbit hole of symphonic metal. This is my second most favorite genre after acapella. It's like heavy metal and opera had a baby. 😂 Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, and Krypteria are good to start off with. All wonderful groups. It's great to see you delving into more than just acapella for reactions. I think you'll enjoy the trip. ❤️
Hello Peter Barber ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory): "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/v-deo.html "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/v-deo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/v-deo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) ua-cam.com/video/lQu5QjidHWg/v-deo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) ua-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/v-deo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) ua-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/v-deo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/05eitd-EA6I/v-deo.html "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) ua-cam.com/video/OvOD6xecph4/v-deo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) ua-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/v-deo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) ua-cam.com/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/v-deo.html "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) ua-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/v-deo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) ua-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/v-deo.html "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) ua-cam.com/video/FrJvKZNEh7g/v-deo.html "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) ua-cam.com/video/lTvYfLa4Wlk/v-deo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/v-deo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/v-deo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/v-deo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/v-deo.html And if you want to be surprised by Floor's vocals :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 ua-cam.com/video/DuwY1d-KIss/v-deo.html @Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ua-cam.com/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/v-deo.html Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) @@PeterBarber Thanks for the positive feedback. The good news is that if you continue to explore the ocean of music composed and performed by Nightwish in its 25 years of activity, you will find that each song has its own personality, and that they follow several musical directions of the symphonic metal genre. All the best, from Romania!
@@PeterBarber Tanks for a great reaction! As usual, Gabriels list is a well covering guide to a reactors Nightwish journey. As a somewhat veteran fan I want to give you a tip. When exploring the other singers and Tarja in particular, reactors often go to Phantom of the Opera. It's ofc neat and you get Markos amazing voice in the same song. I however really want to recommend Walking in the Air from Gabriels list. First of all it's an amazing song (cover of the beautiful song from the 1982 animated film The Snowman). Second it's an older concert (don't know when really but it's Sami Vänskä on bass so at least pre 2001) and gives you a good sense of their origins and the sound that was very unique back then. Metal with a female operasinger was unheard of. Cheers from Finland
I suspect you're about to be invaded by the Nightwish Army... lol. I really enjoyed your insights into what the singer (Floor Jansen) was doing. Nightwish is an amazing band and if you listen to some other of their songs, you're in for one heck of a ride.
I was going to say that Floor is a once in a generation singer, but she’s more than that. Once in a lifetime is more like it. I’m 57 and have heard nobody else like her. She can do anything the song requires.
I'm 73 and discovered Nightwish with Floor 2 1/2 years ago. You are correct, nobody else like her in my 73 years of existence. Not only the singing, but her stage presence and the feeling she puts into her songs are unbeatable. I only listen to Nightwish with Floor, Floor on Beste Zangers, and Floor's solo projects. I have watched videos of other bands, but the really heavy, power, and progressive metal bands are just garbage to me.
The big logo is the Wacken logo. She knows all the terminology. She's been classically trained, and is a vocal coach herself. I've seen her in person, and she's AMAZING.
Floor belts - "Time to never hold our love!" Peter - There it is, that is what I was waiting for. *Me sitting here cackling and waiting for the money note*
That's epic, that's what I've been waiting for. You fool, that's not even my final form. she was a vocal coach for years, and has done an analysis of this very performance on her own channel. Watch that, it's super interesting, you'll find that she's planned everything out, everything she does.
Hi Peter, greetings from the Netherlands. I enjoyed your reaction. Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band. The song 'Ghost Love Score' is from the album 'Once', which came out in 2004. It war originally sung by their first singer, Tarja Turunen. In this video you heard their third and current singer Floor Jansen from the Netherlands. She has one of the best female vocals in metal today. I'd love to watch you react to more Nightwish, as you've only heard a snippet of what they can do. Also, their music is very diversified; they have the epic and melodic songs, but they can also go really heavy and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Just expect the unexpected, that's your best bet. One more piece of advice. Take a look at the comment Gabriel Bardac left. He gave you some background information about this awesome band, as well as a list with song suggestions. As you will see, you'll have plenty to choose from. Enjoy!
Floor the most powerful versatile female vocalist of my life time.. opinion.. the more you go down this rabbit hole you will understand.. more NW please..ROCK ON!
@@tomvenner6030 Well don't get me wrong folks. I am getting kinda upset because everybody is telling him.. well Floor is the best singer in this Genre. I know Nightwish from their first album. BUT, I like other voices too. So, if you are a fan of Within Temptation... this would be the best vocalist in the world. Right? For you though! Every voice is special, every singer has his own harmony, style, range... As for my.. I like emotion and that's why I like Anneke.. She is always smiling and the music gets me. I don't care if she has a powerful voice, which she has. ua-cam.com/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/bHPy7bV0pLw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2OHUNXHlaF8/v-deo.html ;-)
@@tomvenner6030 even Floor says, she was an inspiration to her. She was the first even doing female singing in metal. Her singing is just out of range...can't put it into any genre like coaches said...its devine.
Every vocal coach/teacher I've seen on UA-cam who really understands what she's doing and how she's doing it and that hears her for the first time are in complete awe of her vocal technique alone and want to put her on a pedestal. She is pretty much the gold standard for vocal technique today. If she was Japanese, I'm pretty sure she would be considered a living national treasure.
THE NOTE! Your face was PRICELESS!!! Great job! She’s the only one on the planet who can do that! They have a video on the transition of the note! Check it out! And that logo isn’t the NW logo it’s for WOA Wacken Open Air. A festival in Germany. GREAT reaction!!! I’m FLOORED! 😉
You're going to love more Floor..this song grabs attention but her talents extend way beyond top end belting. She's a generational talent...IMHO the best singer currently performing.
wow. I can count on one hand the reactors who give a serious "Value add" to the video experience. You are one of them. It is refreshing to see in-depth analysis from which I actually learn something. Thanks. Subscribed.
Welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. This is one of the most epic live performances ever. The singer is a Dutch singer/songwriter and vocal coach Floor Jansen, the best singer in the world (IMHO). Haha, she has explained the "bite the apple" thing to all of us on her masterclass videos🍎.The band is from Finland. Glad you liked and greetings from Finland! ⛄👍
Been in music virtually all of my life (performance and production) and Floor Jansen is possibly the most versatile singer I've heard in the past 10 years. She turned 40 a few months ago and, if anything, her voice (and certainly her stage presence) have matured even more.
That would be some achievement in a 90-minute set, of which there were two more songs after this one. Floor is amazing enough, without adding exaggeration. She'd also had one instrumental for a costume change.
@@mariodriessen9740 Sorry, it must have been magic that Floor left the stage in one costume after "Nemo" (#8) was off stage during "Last Of The Wilds" (#9), and narrowly arrived at the sprint for her cue on "Bless This Child" (#10) in a completely different outfit, and with a zipper jammed not properly closed under her left armpit (hence the delay forcing the sprint to the mic), which she did not have the chance to get fixed until the whole band left the stage during the intermezzo of this song. Don't believe me - just check the entire concert which if you don't have the Bluray/DVD is here on UA-cam.
@@phillee2814 : Hahaha…, I’ve never noticed that. I remember the moment when she rushed to the mic. I always wondered about what happened there. But I never noticed something like a costume change. Well, this gives me another good reason to watch the whole concert again (for the 17th time). A man, I don’t have time to watch it now. But I’m curious, I have to see it. A new outfit? Daaaaamn!!! 😂 O wait…., now I know what you mean. Well, I knew what you meant, but I never saw it. But I suddenly realized she starts the concert in leather pants and later she wears a leather skirt. Why have I never noticed this before?!?! 😳 In all fairness, changing all of that could be more tiring than singing another song. 😬
@@mariodriessen9740 Yeah, especially when you consider it is top and bottom and the "changing room" is a pop-up fabric affair about a metre in diameter - and Floor isn't exactly compact - she must be a contortionist on top of her other talents!
Very simple and melodic guitar solo. He plays up on the vocal melody which is very appropriate for this song. This is not extended. Nightwish uses extreme dynamic shifts to add drama and impact to their compositions. I love watching Elizabeth. She is also an amazing singer. Floor Jansen is a highly trained vocalist. Operatic, and Musical Theater training, as well as her own vocal masterclass. Loved your analysis and reaction to my favorite band and The Dutch Valkyrie queen of symphonic metal, Floor Jansen. Last name is pronounce like Johnson with a Y. Tuomas (keys) is the main composer for all music and lyrics for Nightwish. He is highly influenced by movie soundtracks and lyrically uses very poetic style of compositions. Gabriel Bardac below will supply you with copious information on the band as well as a myriad of suggestions and links for additional Nightwish reactions. I love your conversational vocal colour and timber. Being a friend and possible associate of Elizabeth, I am sure you must be an amazing vocalist in your own right? Obviously musically educated and vocally knowledgeable, which is most appropriate when breaking down the otherworldly vocal ability of Floor Jansen. Hope to see you again very soon? Happy 2022.🥂🎉🎊🙏☝
Nightwish Army USA (Pa) division reporting in. General Gabriel Bardac left you band info & links to help you get started . NOTE: Floor Jansen is a 25 year vocalist and master of her instrument she mixes head & Chest like nobody else , Floor has her own you tube channel I think you will really find interesting full of cover songs and master classes
Well that was great. Been a while since a new professionally trained person who knows how to "wax eloquent" has started their Nightwish journey. I look forward to whatever you choose to react to from their canon ... and any other metal that comes your way.🤘🎸
Our beloved valkyrie, Floor, is the undisputed mistress of switching between singing techniques so rapidly and smoothly that even the most well-trained singers admit admiration. Always love your amazingly technical musical analyses, son. Keep up the good work! 😀
Hello, Nightwish Iowa here! I loved your reaction because I love hearing more about the mechanics of why Floor sings the way she does. I am late to the party, but I suspect others have shared about Floor's technique and how she's come to be the queen that she is. Glad you mention how hard drummers work, my son is a drummer and it's always impressive to watch them at their craft.
I’ve been meaning to click on this video but I was scared! First you’re a bass singer 🥵 then you look like Tom Brady 🔥 🔥 🔥 THENNNN you did my personal favorite #Nightwish soooo I was scared to click! But I’m glad I did! Can you please check out “Ever Dream” I would love your take on that one. Floor Jansen (singer for NW) said it’s the hardest one for her to sing, I want a professional’s opinion on it! Im definitely going to check your covers out! Maybeeeeee you can even do a NW cover!!! 😊 thanks for checking them out! I’ve never heard anything like them before or after! They rock! Oh! If you liked this one, you’ll love Epica!!! Simone is amazing!!! Good luck with your UA-cam journey!! I’ll sub to you!!! 💕
Just Jen subscribing to you? Lucky you. She's my favorite non singer reactor. Get ready for one hell of a ride my friend. Nightwish will never disappoint and there is better on the way. Trust me.
Floor was a vocal coach and has a masterclass on her UA-cam channel. Hard to believe that she was less than a year with the band when this performance took place. I enjoyed your reaction and reckon you're ready for a little story. Check out Storytime next. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Yes Peter! Thank you for reacting to this one! Nightwish is a very inspiring band. Floor Jansen is one of our metal queens and an amazing singer, a true artist with impeccable technique! Also, Marko Hetalia aka Rock Gandalf (the bassist) is an exceptional vocalist! Tuomas (keyboards) is the one mainly writing the music. A true maestro of our time. Please, if you react to more of their music, it would be great! You will come to love them especially with your musical background! 🌷
Hello Peter Barber. Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army.
Probably watched 40 or 50 reactions to this and yours showed me new things and explained nuances in Floor's vocals that none of the others touched upon. Look forward to hearing what you think of their other tracks.
I love how different people notice different things and mention how different techniques make such and such of a difference in the voice. Some mention more about the mouth shape, others the vocal folds, others the body posture.
I've watched so many reactions to this performance because I love it, and it's wonderful to see others be pulled into it- but very few reactors are able to raise my level of appreciation, you did. So thank you.
Oh wow, it's becoming harder and harder to find new reactors (well, new for me) that have something interesting to say, and you are for sure one of these rare cases, instantly subscribed. I also find Elizabeth amazing, and she loves loves this band, after your reactions to NW you could eventually check hers, really interesting. Anyway, I really hope to see you react to other NW songs and other Symphonic Metal Bands like Epica. For a bit of NW history and a lot of suggestions (with good quality links) please check Gabriel Bardac's comment below, on my side I'd like to add some information about our beloved Floor Jansen, the NW current lead singer. In 1997 she joined her first band After Forever at age 16 as a backup singer, after few weeks she became their lead singer, After Forever was a Symphonic Metal band. While touring with her band she studied contemporary rock singing at the Rock Academy in the Netherlands for 4 years, then she joined the conservatory for an additional year in opera, musical and theatre. In 2008 After Forever was dismantled due to artistic differences between the band members, Floor didn't take the dismissal very well, at all, but she managed to found her new band ReVamp, a much more heavy band, a sound that reflect very well her feelings at the time, with a lot of death metal growling by her as well. She was not only the singer but also the song writer responsible for lyrics and partially music composition, and she took care of all the management too, also while giving vocal lessons at the same time. It was too much and she felt into a severe burnout that kept her away of the scene for more than a year. In 2012, when she was still recovering from her burnout, she received the call of Nightwish to jump in to replace their singer Anette Olzon in the middle of the US tour, with an advice of 48 hours. Well, she took the first plane from the Netherlands to the US, studying the songs during the the trip, and obviously she performed the whole show amazingly well (you can find a documentary on YT about that tour, called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"). A couple of week later she suggested the band to have Ghost Love Score again in the setlist, as it was her preferred song, and it never leaved the setlist again, becoming her trademark, this version at Wacken 2013 is pretty legendary. The post is becoming a bit too long, so I stop here, at the time of this amazing performance, and will add more about her in one of your next reactions.
Welcome to Nightwish. Welcome to the Nightwish experience. Follow Gabriel's list and we will join you to see your reaction on NW songs and preformances. I'm convinced you will love the Diversity of their songs and Floor's singing qualities,
Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Nightwish Army U.S.A. 🤘🏽 ( Urban Operators ) in the house.
The horns you mentioned are part of the Wacken logo! (The festival this was recorded at! A massive metal & assorted genres event happening on a couple of fields in the middle of the German countryside)
Hi Peter. 68 year old eclectic music lover here and this lady, Floor Jansen, is my favorite singer...period. She can go from a Puccini aria to a death metal growl and everything in between. I too first heard Nightwish and Floor in this same video and I was hooked. Tuomas the keyboardist and composer of most of the music of Nightwish wrote Ghost Love Score in five keys with about 15 key changes during the piece...seems a little pathetic to call it a song as it sounds more like an epic score from a movie. He moves from odd meter to common meter and back again and again with such ease that most people might not even notice or realize what they're listening too. He is not called the Metal Mozart for no reason. Each piece of music by this group brings with it a totally different experience. Floor also brings so much to the band but also does such great work as a solo act and shines with her amazing work on the 2019 version of the Dutch TV Show, Beste Zangers. Then her covers that she does on her UA-cam channel are just another bird altogether, from Eurovision to Disney. This woman in my opinion has no equal. She also performs with other metal artists in Arjen Anthony Lucassen's prog rock operas. She started at age 16 and she's 40 now and to me she just keeps getting better and better. Oh, and I love Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice as well. My only critique of your reaction would be that sometimes less is more...as in talking over the music instead of stopping the music while you talk. Talking over the orchestral interlude while not saying anything informative was sort of annoying but all in all I really like your reaction. Keep it up and I will subscribe to see what you bring in the future.
The first time that you see Floor Jansen walk onto the stage. 'Oh shit' is the correct response 😃 Welcome to Nightwish my friend. Your journey down the rabbit hole begins...
Greetings Peter! Nightwish Army Pennsylvania Division and new sub checking in. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish! You are just touching the surface of what the band and our Valkyrie Queen, Floor Jansen can do. I look forward to following you on your Nightwish journey.
Nightwish army Belgium reporting in. Welcome to our world and our Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen. She is the most powerful and versatile female voice on the planet. Gabriël will show you the pathway into our world. Looking forward to more reacts.
Nightwish Army Texas Division. Glad I found you through YT's Nightwish algorithm. Can't wait to check out your stuff also and other content you post so subscribed to enjoy the experience.
I so envy the people who get to listen to Nightwish for the first time:) Especially now, when the rabbit hole is way deeper than it was 20 years ago... You have so much to look forward to! This song is a great introduction, but it is just the tip of a massive iceberg;)
Great reaction Peter. And yes, Floor knows exactly what she is doing with her voice. Would love to be a ‘fly on the wall’ of a conversation about singing between you, Elizabeth and Floor! Awesome stuff. New subscriber here. Keep up the good work👍🏻
Hi Peter, thank you to show more of Nightwish to the world. Fan band here! We love to watch the reactions of people that never know about them. It's precious.
Welcome to Nightwish. This is just a little snippet of what this woman is capable of. Everything she has done with Nightwish is world class. So is her "Phantom of the Opera" with Hank Poort. So are her covers on her personal UA-cam channel. There are only two frontwomen I have encountered that hold a candle to Floor. The first is her good friend Simone Simons of the symphonic metal band Epica. The entire band, like Nightwish is world class. She and Floor have a live performance together which is a fantastic introduction to the band. I believe it is "Sancta Terra." The second is Brittany Hayes, universally known as Brittany Slays, of the heavy metal band Unleash The Archers. She is a powerhouse, an absolute vocal beast. I recommend "Awakening" to start, then "Tonight We Ride." Our mutual friend Elizabeth over at TCV has reacted to all four of those suggestions.
Nice job and welcome to the Nightwish army.... Floor is one of the best female singers going and she's like 6'1 tall and anything from this concert is worthy of viewing!!!
recommendations: for crazy drumming and complex song structures-> Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague flowers the kaleidoscope for floors vibrato - > nightwish - Shoemaker (live) for crazy prog rock space opera stuff -> ayreon - the day that the world breaks down
Great reaction Peter! You just earned my sub. I look forward to seeing your further reactions to Nightwish and even Floor outside of Nightwish. She is so versatile and can sing any style and blow you away. Welcome to the Nightwish army. Just follow Gabriel's advice and you can't go wrong. Nightwish army Canadian division reporting in.
Nightwish Army, New York here welcome 👋. I think it's time for a little story try "Storytime" from this same show. But you can't go wrong with any Nightwish song. Just follow our leader General Gabriel's post ( I see he's already been here) and it will tell you all you need to know about this great band.
Summoning the Nightwish army. Your reaction felt genuine and you know what your talking about. One of the better reactions. Looking forward to whats next.
You were saying you don't know much about guitars. At the same time, I was thinking what if Troy were on the stage with his "common" instruments (he is the sixth member of the band). You will meet him later when you continue Nightwish trip.
With her background and training (she’s also a vocal coach) I doubt there’s much, if anything, she’s not consciously aware of and doing by design when she’s being Floor.. :-)) Glad you enjoyed it. Now go exploring more of what she can do. She truly is a remarkable vocalist singing with an equally remarkable band.
You should Floor in an acoustic setting, like “How’s the Heart?” As for the rest of these phenomenal musicians, there are many songs where the band shows their quality, with or without a female vocalist. Together they are truly “music for the soul”.
Welcome to the world of Nightwish! You were ready for the music...are you ready for The Army?! Loved the technical reaction, really enjoyed it! Hundreds of others will inform you on band history, and all things Floor. This score, one song, is only a taste of what she can do, of what this highly talented band can do...and you're going to love every moment! There are many styles and sounds to discover, friend! Go ahead and file that old list of yours and embrace the new list, from Gabriel. Should you take the magical journey...we will follow! The flaming bulls head is the logo for The Wacken Open Air Festival. 82,000 ppl, and this song was #13 of 15 in their set! Nightwish Army, Palm Springs, CA, USA
Nightwish is an incredibly talented band, one of the best live bands out there. The lead singer Floor can sing very deep and growl, but she is also a classically trained soprano. Their bassist, who we unfortunately do not hear here, also has a great voice. You have to react to more of their music :-)
The thing with watching people react for the first time listening to this song is always the same...you know they will have their minds blown down the line and experiencing a shattering floorgasm in the end. Always...No expetions.
Hi Peter! Colorado division of the Nightwish Army reporting🤘 You've cracked open one of the most diverse, powerful, emotive and rewarding bands around. I tumbled down the rabbit hole a couple years ago and haven't been disappointed. Nightwish is incredible. But the portals open to other dimensions of music are amazing! You're about to go on a ride you didn't know you needed! You're about to blow up! INCOMING!!
the best reactions come from other performers,, yours was exceptional and when you said "love, love, love" just before mentioning Elizabeth, i was thinking "he must watch Elizabeth", cool shout out. Welcome to the Nightwish Experience,, gonna be a great ride
Thank you. Great analyze!. "Flaming bull" is symbol Wacken Festival. Its very big Festival Metal festival in Germany about 80 000 people per/day. Nightwish was headliner this day in 2013 and they was headliner 2018 also. Really recommend you checking out Nightwish song Shoemaker, in this song you also hear Floor(singer) go full operatic mode. Song is tribute to American scientist Eugene Shoemaker(Only human buried on the moon). Also recommend song The Greatest shown on Earth(20 min masterpiece about evolution).
NightWish Army reporting. I see Our General Gabriel has already appeared with his battle plan (list) every member of NightWish is incredibly versatile. And this is only the surface of what Floor is capable of I'm sure you will be surprised and fascinated by this whole band. As was Elizabeth
Great breakdown and reaction. Just so you know, this singer Floor Jansen, is the 3rd singer (and current) of Nightwish, if you go looking on Spotify for a studio release you will discover the original singer by the name of Tarja Turunen. She leans heavily into an operatic voice and sings this song rather differently. She left the band in 2005. If you are after Floor's performance in particular, you'll need to search for this concert/Bluray by the name of 'Showtime, Storytime' to get this actual recording. Nightwish is best served Live! Enjoy!
Since you asked: The bull head in flames is the logo of the Wacken Open Air festival, which Nightwish was headlining in 2013, and rom which this performance is taken. Nightwish's symbol/logo/mascot whatever you want to call it is the Snowy Owl, which features prominently in their "Elan" music video. Speaking of which, you will likely be urged to react only to live performances of Nightwish, which is generally not bad advice. I would argue, however, that the music videos for "Elan" and "Noise" are well worth watching, "Elan" for the inclusion of a host of famous Finnish celebrities, the joy, and the fun. And "Noise" for the sheer artistry and unsettling images. Some see it as a critique of technology, but it is more accurately a critique of how we use the technology.
Hi! Welcome to Nightwish! I like your reaction. Your first time Nightwish with our metal queen Floor Jansen. She's one of the best female singer i've ever seen! The cowhead with horns in fire is the symbol of the Wacken Metal Open Air festival where Nightwish was headlining that day! That was one of the best Nightwish conzerts ever! I'm looking forward for your next Nightwish reactions, maybe with the show opener from this conzert "Dark chest of wonders"? And a happy new year to you!
Subscribed not just because you did Nightwish, but because you gave such a detailed professional breakdown of Floor's vocal prowess. I can't wait for you to dive down this rabbit hole and see just what this woman is capable of. If this song wowed you, just wait... with each song it only gets better and more mindblowing just what she can do and how much raw talent combined with pure dedication to mastering her vocal craft has done. To think she started performing at the age of 16, and is now in her 40's... Add to this she is truely a kind, sweet, humble woman who transforms into a Valkery on stage. There isn't another singer of her calaber on the planet arguably, but certainly not one who is just a wholesome human being all around.
You nailed it when you said it didn't matter if she knew what she was doing - theoretically...she was doing what felt right, and it always right when Floor sings...all those notes live inside her, all she does is let them out at the right time.
the North German Division of the Nightwish Army reports !! We are there. special greetings to the General of the Army #GabrielBardac (in your comments) and of course the rest of the Nightwish army and the sabaton family The Bande Vocals : Floor Jansen Bass,Vocals : Marco Hietala Guitar : Emppu Vuorinen Keyboards,Songwriting. : Tuomas Holopainen Uilleann Pipes : Troy Donockley Drums :1-Jukka Nevalainen until 2013 /and then 2-Kai Hahto.
Hope you all enjoy my commentary :]
you like metal drummers huh? Try Wintersun Sons of winter and stars. ps more Nightwish too please.
While she sings English covers, what I would consider her true essence vocally are shown in these three songs:
Derniere Danse (long version) a French pop song by Indila
Rechenka - (River) a Russian folk type song
Crow - a Russian pop song
Yet when I say pop songs, they are not arranged in a pop sounding production. I suggest you look over her wiki, (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Ankudinova) and/or ask Elizabeth for her opinion. So I'll put you on my list Peter and see if you find time to listen to Diana, Floor and Nightwish at Wacken 2013's performance of EverDream (my second most favorite piece that fits your 3 min time frame mostly for the vocal support from the bassist.)
Enjoyed your in-depth reaction. Seldom do I tolerate a lot of pauses in the middle of verses on GLS because the majority of reactors don't really have a clue about music. You are really one of the few who made it worth while to listen. Thanks!
@Hominus Nocturna its floor times now , always tarja
Never apologize for speaking…..Can listen All Day Long😍
Welcome to the rabbit hole of symphonic metal. This is my second most favorite genre after acapella. It's like heavy metal and opera had a baby. 😂
Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, and Krypteria are good to start off with.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory):

@Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ua-cam.com/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/v-deo.html
Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. That being said, I will add here the messages left the other days by some old fans of the band.
@Fabrizio Gorla: To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs.

In these pandemic times, Floor Jansen has decided to make covers for us from her home studio, which you can find on her YT channel - there are already 9 covers there, here is the playlist ua-cam.com/play/PL8iSYWeQhlinbJW0aJc2iVy5tYEhC5KL9.html
Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. So far the first 4 songs from the concert plus the backstage documentary have been posted online, here is the playlist ua-cam.com/play/PL8iSYWeQhlilDPohfKzmFC_wdTOllD3jh.html

You'll want to copy or pin this one for easy reference. Gabriel is the Nightwish general and the knowledge provided is invaluable.
Oh my goodness, thank you for taking the time to send all this info -- looks like I have a longggggg Nightwish rabbit hole to go down 👀
@@PeterBarber Thanks for the positive feedback.
I'll be disappointed if he isn't annexed by said army lol 😉
I was going to say that Floor is a once in a generation singer, but she’s more than that. Once in a lifetime is more like it. I’m 57 and have heard nobody else like her. She can do anything the song requires.
Arguably even, perhaps once a century.
i am 51 and I completely agree with you.
I'm 59 and she's the best female singer I've ever heard.
@@bennybuffylove I agree wholeheartedly, my experience too, but the only thing wrong for me is change the 3 to a 5.
🙂
The big logo is the Wacken logo. She knows all the terminology. She's been classically trained, and is a vocal coach herself. I've seen her in person, and she's AMAZING.
"That was a chest belt F5??? That's rediculously high."
Floor: Hold my beer.
Floor belts - "Time to never hold our love!"
Peter - There it is, that is what I was waiting for.
Enjoy!
Hi from the UK 👋 🇬🇧 division of the Nightwish army welcome to your first floorgasam lol 😆
Floor the most powerful versatile female vocalist of my life time.. opinion.. the more you go down this rabbit hole you will understand.. more NW please..ROCK ON!
Anneke van Giersbergen is still my favorit
Not your opinion, fact. Floor is the greatest singer of the last century
@@minaha1975 Love Anneke but she not what I call a powerhouse vocalist, the "tinkerbell" of metal as I've heard her described.
I don't care if she has a powerful voice, which she has. ua-cam.com/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/v-deo.html

@@tomvenner6030 even Floor says, she was an inspiration to her. She was the first even doing female singing in metal. Her singing is just out of range...can't put it into any genre like coaches said...its devine.
Lol you have no idea what's coming. Your playlist is about to skyrocket.
Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. It’s a long drop, but the best thing is it’s never the same and always amazing.
Yep, that first step is a HUGE doozy!
Thanks. Subscribed.
Yes. She knows. She actually did a reaction video on this performance and was in tears when she heared her own final belt. 😀
She turned 40 a few months ago and, if anything, her voice (and certainly her stage presence) have matured even more.
keep in mind she is been singing before this song for 1 hour and 40 minutes 🤘❤❤❤ Queen Floor !
That would be some achievement in a 90-minute set, of which there were two more songs after this one.
Floor is amazing enough, without adding exaggeration. She'd also had one instrumental for a costume change.
But she didn't do a costume change though. 😁
Daaaaamn!!! 😂
O wait…., now I know what you mean. Well, I knew what you meant, but I never saw it. But I suddenly realized she starts the concert in leather pants and later she wears a leather skirt. Why have I never noticed this before?!?! 😳
In all fairness, changing all of that could be more tiring than singing another song. 😬
@@mariodriessen9740 Yeah, especially when you consider it is top and bottom and the "changing room" is a pop-up fabric affair about a metre in diameter - and Floor isn't exactly compact - she must be a contortionist on top of her other talents!
Her name is Floor Jansen, she is opera and classical trained. You should check out her video singing Vilja Lied.
Nice commenting and I love when people give their insight with the reactions. Don't be too shy to rewind a bit after you stop commenting.
Welcome to the Nightwish Army!!! YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To quote Elizabeth, "sometimes when you are loud and poundy...you need a quiet part instead of getting louder and poundier"
#BrandNewSentence lmao
We love us some Elizabeth! She’s been warmly welcomed to the Nightwish Army. Her reactions to Floor and the guys are always great 👍
Love her
Nightwish army Australian division reporting. Floor Jansen is a metal goddess but can sing any gene in multiple languages. Please do more Nightwish
Nightwish Army UK popping in for tea and a great reaction.
I've watched so many reactions to this performance because I love it, and it's wonderful to see others be pulled into it- but very few reactors are able to raise my level of appreciation, you did. So thank you.
Another Soul Snatched by the Valkyrie Goddess
Nightwish Army incoming, Floor has captured you.
The Best female singer on the planet right now ! hail The Queen Floor ! 🤘❤❤❤
haven't even watched this yet and i KNOW it will make me very happy :)
Welcome to Nightwish. Welcome to the Nightwish experience. Follow Gabriel's list and we will join you to see your reaction on NW songs and preformances. I'm convinced you will love the Diversity of their songs and Floor's singing qualities,
Same Concert ...."everdream" ...they let the Bass player loose to sing and it is really something ( he is not a a bass) but he is world class as well
Great reaction.

I so envy the people who get to listen to Nightwish for the first time:) Especially now, when the rabbit hole is way deeper than it was 20 years ago... You have so much to look forward to! This song is a great introduction, but it is just the tip of a massive iceberg;)
It's always good to see reactions from a male vocalist. And props for the shoutout to The Charismatic Voice. I love her channel.
That was a very enjoyable reaction and analysis of this epic song from the best live band on the planet imho thankyou. Two words More please.
Great reaction Peter. And yes, Floor knows exactly what she is doing with her voice. Would love to be a ‘fly on the wall’ of a conversation about singing between you, Elizabeth and Floor! Awesome stuff. New subscriber here. Keep up the good work👍🏻
That interlude is a full part of the song, it's also on the Album Version.
I believe it is "Sancta Terra."
The second is Brittany Hayes, universally known as Brittany Slays, of the heavy metal band Unleash The Archers. She is a powerhouse, an absolute vocal beast. I recommend "Awakening" to start, then "Tonight We Ride."
Our mutual friend Elizabeth over at TCV has reacted to all four of those suggestions.
Nice job and welcome to the Nightwish army.... Floor is one of the best female singers going and she's like 6'1 tall and anything from this concert is worthy of viewing!!!
As an opera singer, you may appreciate the vocals in Shoemaker by Nightwish
Excellent reaction! Had thought I had heard it regarding this song all but I learned something new! Thank you and bright blessings for the New Year.
recommendations:
for crazy drumming and complex song structures-> Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague flowers the kaleidoscope
for floors vibrato - > nightwish - Shoemaker (live)
for crazy prog rock space opera stuff -> ayreon - the day that the world breaks down
+10000000 to Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope, specifically their Red Rocks performance!
I freaking love ayreon. That song fires me up everytime. And how can you not love arjen he’s like the sweetest dude ever.
Nightwish Army South-West-Germany is reporting in. Yes, they are incredible live.
And to think this wa done live . Great reaction , please keep the Nightwish coming!
This was cool to watch. Looking forward to more Nightwish reactions from you! :)
First time seeing your channel. So many channels have fake titles like 'Bass Singer reacts'.. Within 2 seconds I thought, Yep! he's bass ! lol
Ghost Love Score is the essence of Nightwish. Floor by the way is not just a singer but a vocal coach too.
Welcome to the Nightwish Army … Michigan Chapter here ,,,,,,,,, this rabbit hole goes very deep !!! Have fun with the journey!!!
You should Floor in an acoustic setting, like “How’s the Heart?” As for the rest of these phenomenal musicians, there are many songs where the band shows their quality, with or without a female vocalist. Together they are truly “music for the soul”.
i am intrigued and have subscribed to your newsletter!
Floor took Nightwish to a whole different level 🔥
Nightwish is an incredibly talented band, one of the best live bands out there.
The lead singer Floor can sing very deep and growl, but she is also a classically trained soprano.
Their bassist, who we unfortunately do not hear here, also has a great voice.
You have to react to more of their music :-)
Great!! 🇫🇮 Thank you, more Nightwish, please!! "Weak fantasy", live from Tampere, pleeease!!
The thing with watching people react for the first time listening to this song is always the same...you know they will have their minds blown down the line and experiencing a shattering floorgasm in the end. Always...No expetions.
Hi Peter! Colorado division of the Nightwish Army reporting🤘
You've cracked open one of the most diverse, powerful, emotive and rewarding bands around.
I tumbled down the rabbit hole a couple years ago and haven't been disappointed.
Nightwish is incredible. But the portals open to other dimensions of music are amazing!
You're about to go on a ride you didn't know you needed!
You're about to blow up! INCOMING!!
I LOVE that you stop, explain and go back a bit to hear again just what you’re talking about. GREAT!
the best reactions come from other performers,, yours was exceptional and when you said "love, love, love" just before mentioning Elizabeth, i was thinking "he must watch Elizabeth", cool shout out. Welcome to the Nightwish Experience,, gonna be a great ride
Great reaction, thanks'! Welcome down the Nightwish rabbit hole.👍
Nightwish army Texas division here! Welcome to Nightwish!
I just thought you should know my reaction to your first 10 seconds of video. Which was, verbatim: "....Sir, your voice"
You have a lovely voice.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal!
You nailed it when you said it didn't matter if she knew what she was doing - theoretically...she was doing what felt right, and it always right when Floor sings...all those notes live inside her, all she does is let them out at the right time.
the North German Division of the Nightwish Army reports !! We are there. special greetings to the General of the Army #GabrielBardac
