We own a camp ground in East Texas. We allow all breeds, but we do not allow vicious dogs. Also, we have all dog owners sign a form that holds us harmless and explains if your dog attacks, it is between you and the other guest. Also, we do not allow excessive barking. Dogs must be on leash. This has worked for us and thank God we have never had an experience like you all have had.

I have to disagree. I have studied the subject extensively, and most often you are correct.

My dog 🐕 would be a prime candidate if suddenly snapping and attacking were going to happen. She was on a shelter, and it was obvious to me that she’d been treated badly. Before the shelter. Even when attacked she was still not vicious, just keeping the other pit bull away from me and keeping her neck clear of the other dog’s teeth. Her fangs look like they have been filed, making me wonder about her history. But point taken. And I keep her away from kids. She likes meeting adults but is wary about kids and other dogs

I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I been fortunate enough to own 168 acres down south Georgia. Right now it’s just a camping/hunting property. I hope in the next 5-10 years to turn it into a RV campground. I am debating if I will allowed dogs or not. First the insurance will be almost twice as much if I allowed dogs on the property. I don’t want the liability of dog biting another guest. After talking to multiple RV campground employees they said that the biggest complaint they get is people dogs barking all day long or early in the morning. So I don’t want my guest to feel uncomfortable because someone’s dog.

I witnessed a dog attack in Arizona 2 years ago in a campground that I will never forget. There was a woman in class B van camping with a pit bull. This dog was very protective, barking and growling at everyone it would see. The dog got away from her and killed another camper's dog then went after their kids. The mother intervened and got bitten by the dog. The father grabbed a shotgun from the camper and killed the pit bull. It was a horrific scene. It was a remote state park. It took 45 minutes before the ambulance and the state police to arrive. I had to give a witness statement and was called to testify in criminal court. There still is a civil lawsuit pending. The owner of the pit bull accused the victims of harassing her dog and it was their fault. It is the owner of the pit bull fault. In my opinion she didn't train the dog properly or failed to acknowledge she had a dangerous dog that should have not been out in a public area like a campground. I know people love their dogs like family. But just like it's not appropriate to bring a child to certain places the same holds true for your dog.

@billyjohnson9166 People just don't want to accept that certain types of dogs have a tendency to be more aggressive. It's in their nature. Any good and honest dog trainer will tell you if you ask them. Yes, you can train a pit bull to be less aggressive, but bottom line, it's still hardwired into certain types of dogs. I am not saying ban some dogs, but know what you're getting into. A lot of pit bull owners get them because it's the cool thing to do. I’m so thankful Sage was safe but sorry about your dog and chickens. That is horrific to see them being attacked. Remember how you said in previous videos how it is getting crazy and more dangerous? So now that you have a campground, you will have the crazies come to you instead of you to them. I have owned a rescue pit who was just a sweetheart. I have been cornered in my yard by a neighbor’s pit who was threatening me. I really thought it might be curtains for me that day. It really stinks that ppl are not required to show a DOT number for the service dog. Can’t blame you if you ban animals. I like the reply of the campground owner in Tx. Then after she barely was able to hold him off, she said the other line, "Wow, he's never done that before." It's a big problem in the U.S. and more people need to start talking about it in a big way. The breed DOES matter, and the owner really can't do as much about it as they like to say they can. When was the last time a collie went nuts and shredded some kid's face unprovoked?

I will add; 2 of my dogs were ATD (therapy dog) endorsed & went with me to visit seniors in a nursing home. Part of the legal agreement was to Never ever try to pass them off as service dogs! They were not. They were specifically trained & vetted Only as ESAs for seniors under my strict control. I have called police on a couple trying to bring their large unruly dog into a grocery store claiming it was a service dog. Oh yeah they bought the vest online. It Was Not a service dog, which is Highly trained to the point they’ll ignore their own needs to care for & assist their charge. Those folks tried to have the police charge me for false accusations, pointing to the vest. I showed the officers how that “service dog” didn’t follow orders (a good service dog will take orders from anyone unless they might be harming their human because they are so strictly trained). Officers could see this dog was lunging/pulling/ refused to sit/stay etc & clear it wasn’t trained. These folks got cited for false accusations against me & for trying to pass an untrained pet as a service dog!! ;-)

I think you guys are great, and I love seeing you stand up for freedom.
I have been working with Animals over 35 years.
You are correct that generally it’s the Pet parents who are at fault or the cause.
I spent 25 years boarding dogs in my home and I always had cats. I went through a screening process where the dog had to come in on leash so that I could test the dog to see if the dog was a good fit for the dogs and cats.
I realize you cannot do that people will be coming from out of the area.
It sounds like your property is not completely enclosed? For you to be able to have a trespasser somehow enter, I’m guessing that it’s not enclosed?
If you do have such a large property Something that could help incredibly for everyone would be to have some enclosed gated areas for dogs to play in like dog parks.
If dogs are only allowed on leash, the dog, that doesn’t have enough exercise will definitely be prone to more behavior, problems and more aggression and anxiety if they are not able to run free for the typical healthy dog.
If you really do have that much space, you could set up different dog park areas, and label them like 1) small or passive dogs, 2) potentially aggressive dogs, 3) dog park main play area.
Consider if a child was not allowed to run and play and was only able to walk or run a little bit attached to their parent, they would likely go nuts and start behaving poorly.
Whomever created leash laws, knew nothing about animal behavior.
I have also had many bad experiences with Pitbulls, but I have also seen and observed other similar aggressive breeds
It may help possibly to have a pet deposit for you and if there is no destruction or damage to anyone during the family stay, then they get the deposit returned.
But if they cause harm to anyone, etc., they lose their deposit, and risk potential lawsuit.
Other suggestions might be that if they or their dog harms anyone, they are completely responsible for all medical bills or any other damage.
I am very cautious of pitbull because of my experience. That being said, when animals get older, typically they can be less threatening, depending on the age and the animal.
A friend of mine had an old pitbull that was one of the sweetest things in the world, with all animals and people.
That is why I would not just ban one breed, because you can get Cane Corso, Akita, Staffordshire terriers, similar to Pitbulls, mastiffs, etc.
Therefore, it may be helpful to screen the people on the phone, ask them about their dogs and maybe be able to do a FaceTime type zoom meeting to see how their dog is with other dogs and people.
But no matter what, even if you approve, any animal coming in or any person coming in that causes harm or damage to any other animal or person or property, they should be held completely responsible for all costs, and if there is pain and suffering.

Having been mauled by a large dog when I was 6 years old (I still bear the scars) I am super supportive of your policy regarding pit bulls. We love to travel with our 11 pound Cavapoo, and consider her an indispensable part of our family. If a larger dog were to maul her, I don't know that we would ever recover, so I would be more inclined to patronize a park which bans aggressive dogs. Also, I am advised that some insurance companies are attempting to limit liability by demanding that parks ban pit bulls, as a condition of insuring the park. Banning aggressive dogs is thus not just a sound safety practice, it is good business.

I love pets, and have had them for over fifty years of my life. I also raised two children. But, I enjoy camping in southwest Florida where many campgrounds are for seniors over 55. Best part is there are no children or pets allowed. No kids crying or dogs barking. Yep, I pay a premium for this, but its worth every penny.

@karenkelly1451 That's awful 😖 I'm so sorry this happened to you. We have similar lousy experiences. Whenever a dog comes near us, we swiftly kick it hard and sometimes carry pepper spray. We go running & hiking in parks for peaceful experiences not to be viciously barked at and/or charged at by people's dogs. There are leash law signs all over the park, yet so many of these dog people totally ignore them. Sadly, there's hardly any police or rangers around enforcing the law. Even if they have their animal on a leash, the trails are so narrow that it still could easily bite someone. Besides, the dog still will viciously bark at people, which hikers definitely don't appreciate, need, or deserve. And the pet owners don't even scold their dog to train it. They seem to actually want to push their dog upon others, not realizing that not all people want that experience. This is partially the result of all the commercials on TV promoting & pushing the viewers for having a dog hobby. Yet there are no commercials or programs on TV educating the public regarding how to keep their dog to themselves and how to keep them quiet. Best wishes for no more of that unpleasant animal experiences happening and a happy, fun summer season!! 🍉🌞⛱️🏊⛵️🛶🎾🎾

With our experience in rv parks when walking, our older golden retriever are the smaller breeds that people feel they don't need to be on a leash that come charging aggressively. Great Danes that we've encountered have been pretty passive. 1 pitty that was in a harness and leash came charging, and when it came to the end, it came out of the harness as it flipped, then froze before the owner came and got it. It does seem the smaller breeds that seem to be non-stop barkers have been the most aggressive when walking our dog. Wiener dogs seem to be the choice in Florida for rvers, and I consider a small breed. I've been bit twice in the back of the leg by that breed.

The RV park/resort in Florida where I wintered last January had sites that were fenced for dogs. 14 ft gate open to allow you to back your rig in, close the gate & then it's safe for your dog to be loose at your rig. Each "dog site" had a very sturdy 5' chain link fence all around the site. Pretty cool!

Thank you for posting this! I pray many campground owners will wake up and follow your lead.
For 30 years we loved camping with our kids, but always left our dogs at home (lab and shihtzu) because we wanted to enjoy our time with our kids and not have to worry about dog poop or potential barking, or worse getting attacked by an off leash dog.
We stopped camping last year because campgrounds are suddenly overrun with dogs! I hate taking our kids on walks or bike rides and having dogs bark, and worse lunge, even if on a chain. It’s terrifying. Campgrounds don’t seem to be for families anymore, but for “pet parents”
Do some googling online and see the attacks happening in campgrounds and basically everywhere else, the VAST majority are by pits and variations of pits. I fear for my kids and grandkids!!

    • @TwilightedForever1
      @TwilightedForever1 21 день тому

I came here to say the same.
      To John and Mercedes:
ADA.gov is your best resource for what you can and cannot ask an owner of a service dog. Those dogs cannot be expected to "perform" for you to prove their credentials, as if they are a circus act. How are you supposed to get a service dog to "perform" for you if it is trained to sense an epileptic seizure coming on Or a PTSD episode about to happen, unless those health issues actually happen in your presence??
Be very careful how you treat people with disabilities and their bona fide service dogs! The ADA WILL investigate.

I understand perfectly that pitbulls are dangerous. I was attacked by one luckily he just nipped my ankle. When I called the Sheriffs office about being bitten by the pit bull they sent a deputy out and it jumped up and almost grabbed the deputy by his arm but he managed to chase the dog away and he said he was getting ready to shoot the dog. Then my dog got into a fight with a pit bull when he accidentally got loose and went into someone's yard and he began barking and trying to sniff out the pit bull who was a female but she wasn't having it and grabbed onto him and he grabbed her in her mouth area and she didn't let go then someone finally came out of the house with a garden hose aimed it at the two dogs and broke them up my dog didn't get a scratch on him but the other dog had a few nicks in her mouth but she was okay. It's it's a very scary experience. I don't go for walks in the neighborhood anymore with my dog because my dog goes berserk when he sees another dog and doesn't get along with other dogs and he likes to chase squirrels and cats and he is big and strong but I always have him on a leash. I never leave him unsupervised if I have him on a cable and I when I have to take him to use the bathroom, I never take him too far from my apartment. My dog was a rescue dog and unfortunately has never really been socialized with other dogs but I'm trying to get him trained but training can be expensive and I cannot ever take him out in public because of the risk in encountering another dog. I'm not so concerned about them on a leash but I have to look out for those dogs that are not on a leash. I will never understand for the life of me why a handful of people who still refuse to have their dogs on the leash even after all the reports and statistics of dog attacks on the rise. Now I had an issue when I stayed at an RV park where the Park managers lived in the house in front of the RV park and their back yard was right next to the dog run and the managers wife would have an issue with dogs barking when she would have her dogs in her back yard during the same time I had my dog out and she had a full size poodle and a Chihuahua and a doberman and they would bark and lunge at my dog too and I would have to end up having to get out of the dog park fast. She also did that to my neighbor's as well but my neighbor told me that she thinks that the managers wife would purposely let her dogs out to cause a ruckus so she can have an excuse to pick on and evict the residents that she didn't like because she thought she was better than everybody else and thought us park residents were trashy. I love my dog but it's sad that I have to watch out for others and their dogs.

Spot on with the dog stories, we had our dog on a leash at one campground, and the camp host drove by in a golf cart with her dog, not on a leash and I was concerned the way it ran at our dog it wasn't going to be friendly. Funny thing the rules were no dogs off leash. Another camp ground a doberman broke away from its steak and attacked a couples dog that were walking by. Fortunately, the owner was able to separate them. As always, thanks for the video, and I promise we will make it out to Thunder Cayon soon.

Before even watching all of your video, I’m gonna comment. Total dog lover/owner here. Owned/raised/trained dogs all my life . . Some more amenable to training than others! lol. My dogs have “grown up” on camping. My issues have Always been with owners. Owners who don’t pick up after their dogs. Owners who let their dogs off leash (don’t tell me how friendly or well trained they are). Dogs who Might be friendly with their own family But are a terror menace to other people/dogs walking in the road. Agressive.. I had a perfectly sweet Australian Terrier puppy a few years ago that got freight trained by 2 lg GSDs dashing out of a camper one day, & the same thing happened 2 camps later from 2 other large dogs that just “wandered in” to our campsite & attacked the little guy. He was never the same & became very reactive to other dogs. After a year of professional training etc (lots of $$) I ended up having to rehome him to a breeder/AKC professional to have him appropriately placed on a farm setting. I was planning to show him as he was a beautiful specimen of a rare breed. I am sooo sick & tired of irresponsible owners & im a dog lover!!! Some dogs, & their owners, don’t belong camping.
Heck my dogs are terriers . . . But they were either leashed, confined in a crate or TALL outdoor pen, etc. otherwise they would be running rampant through the campground seeking movies OR chasing every vermin they saw. And they are command trained!! But I know natural instincts take over at times so I was always careful about that.
Same goes with people & their kids . . . Don’t even get me started on that one. Let’s just say there is a Huge difference between kids being kids & a little rowdy & being extremely disrespectful & even destructive of neighboring campers stuff. Nuff said!

That's why we always try our absolute best to find all the places that don't allow pets. We're not going camping to meet other people's pets. Far too many dog owners never observe the leash laws. The barking totally ruins the peace, and the odors from pets are disgusting. Sometimes, they'll be coming to our site to piss, poop 💩 and even steal our stuff. It really seems nowadays people give animals more rights than human beings. No one deserves to be assaulted, harassed, menaced, or terrorized by these inconsiderate, disrespectful types of people. It shouldn't be tolerated by our society, and we have every right to fully protect and defend ourselves from any dog that even gets close to us. For all we know, the dog's next move will be a bite.

As an owner of a pit baby, I make sure that my dog is an ambassador to the breed. I have camped for over 50 years and have seen many things. I had my pit bull walking on a lead and someone’s little dog come out of its camp site and bite my dog on the chest. My dog remained calm and did not attack the other dog even after she was bitten.
I compare people who band my dog without even meeting them prejudice people, and use their last name to a murder and rapist with the same last name. You would not like me accusing you of this just because your last name matched a murder and rapist.
The owners of the campgrounds my family and I go to use a case by case basis. If you have a dog that is aggressive, barking constantly you will be asked to leave immediately with no refund, no matter the breed.
I was thinking about coming to your campground, because I truly believe in GOD, Country and family, but now I cannot come. I respect that it your campground and I must obey your rules. I just totally and hold heartily disagree with your band on a specific breed! God bless you anyway as we agree to disagree.

It IS the people!! Thank you for stating that and right up front.
The dog, the breed, the size are irrelevant.
Service animals - 2 questions! Yes!!
As a work camper and campground maintenance manager I've experienced quiet Chihuahuas, loving Pit Bulls, well behaved Sheppard's, Doberman's and Rottweiler's. On the other hand I've had poodles, spaniels and Yorkies be the most obnoxious, rude and entitled varmints ever.
It is all about the training which boils down to THE OWNER. A pet is not a child. They're NOT furry babies.

People that go into a public park that ignore the leash regulations usually ignore the rest of the rules to. Some say but my dog won’t bite, the other guests don’t know your dog. My dog is very protective. She has NEVER been off leash, left unattended, or allowed to even bark at anyone or their pets. She is trained and I won’t have a dog I can’t control. I won’t stay in a park that doesn’t have a leash requirement, and I will report every time I see one running loose. If the park doesn’t enforce it, I won’t ever go back and I make sure to warn other campers in the reviews. If your pet is attacked on public property, call PD, get a police report filed and then file a lawsuit. It’s a fight worth fighting, before more and more parks just ban pets period. Even IF your dog doesn’t bite, everyone that sees it running loose will think they can to. At the end of the day, most folks that let their dogs run loose is so it will go poop in someone else’s site so they don’t have to pick up after it, and they are just to lazy to go walk it. Some fights are worth fighting and being able to take my baby camping without her being mauled by someone else’s dog is one.
