When I Made A Fish Pond For EVERY Fish in Stardew Valley

- Since the new 1.4 update gave us the option to build fish ponds I obviously have to see if I can fit enough for every fish on my farm at once. Turns out I can and there's about 60 different types that can go in ponds. Once I get these stocked I just need to give them an assortment of items every few days to help them multiply. The more the multiply the more often they give items and better the items will be. This was another one of those ideas that sounded fun at first, but turned out to be very time consuming. It was an interesting result at least. Stardew Valley gameplay with my commentary as always!

if you put roe in preserve jars it increases the value and makes stuff like caviar.
Caviar is only from sturgeon. Everything else gives aged roe, which is worth way more than un-aged. DF needs to stop being a big dumb.

the lava eels have a chance to produce 5 spicy eels in a single day and the blobfish can give you pearls so that's pretty cool
Yeah overall the special attributes some fish have make this process worth it. Super Cucumber, Lava Eel, and Octopus are great ones to use.
Spookfish can produce a treasure chest.
@@ListlessLion not very likely though. There's also a fish that can produce Prismatic Shards, but it is a 0.05% chance to happen.
Now that I think about it. That sounds like a DF challenge to me.

1. Roe can be put in preserves jars
2. Every fish actually has the same drops at 9 and 10 fish in the pond, so fishing one out is only worth it at 10, but then it’s super worth it
3. You can put a sign on the ponds to keep track of how many fish are in the pond

3. it means that you get the same loot from ponds that have 9 fish and 10 fish. It's like that for every fish in the game. If you're still confused just know that if the pond is at 10 you can take one out with no effect on your roe collection

also, some of them give really rare items occasionally, id recommend doing a "years worth" video with automate for this and probably 10 or so chests to see all the stuff you get

If there can be mods adding entirely new npcs to the game, i think it would be possible for the travelling merchant to be added as an interactable npc via modding.

I use the ponds for cooking recipes. I'm not going to waste time fishing for cucumbers when I can have a pond that just continuously produces them.
I do that with eels. Maybe I can do it for cucumb

I intend to do this with the ingredients for the new Seafoam Pudding you get the recipe for at Fishing Level 9. At +4 to Fishing it's the single biggest skill buff in the entire game.

Next logical step: fill them with only the most valuable type of fish, and cram as many as possible into your farm. Find out the maximum possible daily yield. Factor in caviar. I'm sure that won't take too long...

The ink is good for seafoam pudding. Lava eals and blob are by far the most valuable, with everything else being basically at most half of those two. A full lava eal pond makes just under the amount that the same space in star fruit makes by day (without preserving the row and not useing the fishing method) and does it passively, requiring no extra work and also works in all seasons. Also, these ponds are not an endgame building. I had one with harabit by about late year one on my first play through, so if I really wanted, it would be easy to get one sooner. I also chose the river land farm.

Lava eels are one of the best value fish, roe sells equal to half the fishes base value + 50(?) and Lava eels are worth 700.
2nd best are sturgeons, but aging their roe is mandatory, you can simply ignore your jars for Lava Eels, if you want faster money.
In addition: Lava Eels may give you Magma Geodes, Spicy Eel and Gold.
Now I shall produce lucky lunches at an alarming rate

This is making me want to do the same thing. I really like the beach farm, even though everybody doesn't like it because you can only use sprinklers on one small section. I've been putting lots of fish ponds on it, but not enough to get every single fish. I read the wiki and wanted to get a prismatic shard from the rainbow trout, but that hasn't happened yet. It's a rare chance. I mostly use them for fish that could be used for a meal, like midnight carp, squid, and flounders so that I can make seafoam pudding. I would often have preserves jars for the roe, but never enough, and would have to sell a lot of roe as it is unless I would make a lot more preservers.
Blob fish give you pearls, lava eels give you food, sturgeon roe can be made into caviar, and Leah gives you heart burn. There everything summed up nicely

you didn't breathe correctly and it negatively affected the production of roe by 0.8%, so i think you should redo this whole idea :)

Tiger trout don't reproduce, so you have to manually increase them.
9-10 fish produce roe about every other day.
Beach foragables reproduce in fish pond.
Spook fish chance for treasure chest and blobfish chance for pearl.
Most of the fish produce items somewhat applicable to their name/type.

Not only can you age roe, you could also just keep a pond of cucumbers and make them into lucky lunches year round as long as you don't overfish them

You can age roe and sturgeon roe is caviar. you can also put some other things in them I think. You can for sure add coral, but you might be able to grow seaweed or algae and maybe some of the other crab pot catches. though clams didn't seem to work when I was doing it
Logically, you now have to see what a farm with maximum fish ponds filled with the most profitable fish can make.

Well I'm glad DF figured out the max capacity is 10. However, aging the roe in a preserve jar greatly increases the value. So if you just make enough preserve jars to match the output of the fish approximately, then you put the roe in and get much more value. Especially if you fill the ponds with the most valuable fish only. I recommend lava eel for speed sake, but sturgeon is the best overall. The other thing that would have increased the speed on your video, you can add fish to the pond if there is space for them instead of waiting for them to spawn over time.
Because of the update, i got really back into Stardew Valley again, and the fish pond system has been one of the more fun aspects to be added in. I only have four ponds on a farm, and I use them for the chance of getting special resources mostly. I'll list them off.
Lava Eel: Roe and Spicy Eel food
Octopus: Roe and Omni Geodes
Sea Cucumber: Roe and population for lucky lunch creation
Super Cucumber: Roe, Amethyst, and Iridium
It is a genuinely cool system and I hope they make it possible to utilize the legendary fish somehow (maybe no growing population but based on grade (bronze, silver, gold, and Iridium star qualities).
1. different fish have different things they produce when they have a large population. for instance blob fish can produce pearls, although the chances are low.
2. putting the roe into preserve bins can produce aged roe or caviar

A lot of the best items can only appear if they are at or near maximum capacity.
Example: When you have 9-10 Blobfish they can give you a pearl.
Sturgeon Roe is the only roe that is really high value when you put it in a Preserves Jar. I haven't done ANY math but it seems reasonable to imagine that if you were the kind of insane farmer that wanted Fish Ponds to be your source of money, filling all your ponds with Sturgeon would probably be the way to go even once you subtract that high one time cost of their needy requests getting up to population cap. Caviar is 500G(700G Artisan) each after 4 days in the Preserves Jar. That's... pretty good for basically doing nothing once your Sturgeon Ponds are at 10 Capacity (guaranteed 1 sturgeon roe a day, 25% chance for 2).
Ultimately I surmise it's best to use the ponds only as a regenerating source of the non-legendary fish that you might want for recipes or profit.
Some fish are worth keeping around at or near maximum capacity just for their gifts if you're too lazy or hard pressed to get them normally. I mean, if you have a decent number of ponds all filled with the same type of fish, the low chances for rare gifts don't seem THAT bad.
Looking over the chart of what gifts each fish can give you, some of the better or more unique ones are:
Super Cucumber (Iridium Ores), Any Saltwater Shellfish at full capacity (Nautilus Shells in any season), Rainbow Trout (tiny chance for Prismatic Shards), Void Salmon (decent chance of 5-10 Void Essence), Blobfish (Pearls, also Warp Totem Farm but ehhh they're not exactly hard to craft), Lava Eel (5 Spicy Eels, Gold, and stacks of Magma Geodes), Sunfish (decent chance of a single pitiful Solar Essence...), Woodskip (I thought it was just really unique how it can give you hardwood and the seeds for the 3 wild trees).

The roe can be processed in preserve jars. Still not worth it but it would increase the value of doing the insane fish-pond farm route.
