  • @davesammarco799

I was completely disappointed. Regardless of whether Ace and Peter showed up, they changed nothing. The same damn set list. There are dozens of things that they could have done differently. They could have brought back an old KISS stage or the old KISS logo. They could have played longer even if it meant having an intermission. They played Say Yeah, fucking seriously? You couldn't do Strutter, She, Hotter Then Hell or Parasite? How about Creatures of the Night, Crazy Nights and Tears are Falling? No mention of Eric. They could have done a video montage of their career and somehow honored Bill Aucoin. After Rock and Roll, Paul and Gene could have come out to say a few words. They left the stage the same they have for decades, as if they were playing somewhere else the next night. For a band the set the standard for live performances, this left a bad taste in my mouth. You're KISS, DO BETTER

Is have similar feelings. Some old classics like Parasite, Strutter, Firehouse or even Shandi would have been cool. Or at least some more words at the end besides the promotion for the avatars would have been the least to expect.
I had the impression, that they were much more emotional the first night. But hell yes, second night has been disappointing….. 😢

As a lifelong KISS fan I am not happy about this whole avatar concept being promoted at the final show. I'm not crazy about the idea overall but if that's what they want to do then so be it. I think they should have had a more heartfelt closing with possibly more videos of the past, a special thank you to past members and more thanks to the fans. The avatar thing could have been shared on their website at a later date.

    • @robertnoble6600
      @robertnoble6600 6 місяців тому +14

The avatar thing is a mistake. The original plan was to put together a real band to move forward with. NOTHING can replace a live band doing their thing. A young group of guys should have been hired to carry this thing on. Hopefully even writing some good new music to go with the classic stuff. But I’m sure Gene and Paul’s ego’s couldn’t handle it. That is unfortunate. Because the real new band with talented guys would have been great. The fake stuff isn’t going to fly.

I discovered Kiss at 5 years old in 1976. My first Rock album was Kiss Alive. I was too young to go to the concerts but I bought all their records and have been a fan of the OG line up since. It was a dream come true to see the original band in 1996 at MSG. I saw them again in 1998. They should have retired in 2000 in my opinion. They made Rock n roll history together and it's sad how they can't get along but that's life. I choose to remember Kiss in their heyday and listen to the albums. Thank you Gene, Ace, Peter, and Paul for all the music and memories. 🤘

Man, our demographics are IDENTICAL. "Alive!" was the first album I ever owned. I gazed for HOURS at the booklet inside of the album. I thought Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter were the coolest guys that ever walked the earth. I played the shit out of that album!
Here's the thing: for most bands, it's about the music. Kiss themselves are the ones that made it about more than just the music. It was the live show, it was the CHARACTERS they created. More so than any other band, Kiss was NOT in a position to change members, they were a cast of characters. Try to imagine if in season 4 of The Sopranos, three producers of the shower had issued a statement that said "the management of The Sopranos was unable to come to terms with James Gandolfini, but are very pleased to announce that Joe Blow will be taking over the role of Tony Soprano". NFW! That would not fly. Gene and Paul NEVER understood this.
I saw the first show of the reunion tour at Tiger Stadium in Detroit in 1996, and even with a few warts, it was GLORIOUS.
After that tour, they became a glorified tribute band.

I never really cared for the last part of the act - I get it Ace and Peter can be difficult to lasso but Tommy and Eric stepping in with Peter and Ace lookalikes never appealed to me. They should’ve created separate characters for them. Gene and Paul have always been controlling the money train, Gene never denies it. The last concert should’ve been a video montage of pioneers to the present, not introducing avatars. I’ll hold onto my memories of a band that was amazing from 1974 to 2001 ish. Wasn’t expecting a long set list but like most have said they could have done some songs not heard live for a long time (Strutter, Crazy Knights, Got to choose, hell even Take it off - just to name a few). What annoys me the most is not acknowledging any past members. It’s one thing to not have them present (egos clearly are a factor here) but surely a video documenting all eras and members should have been arranged, hell Tommy was doing that for Kiss for the longest time. Is anyone surprised? I saw Kiss in '78 and '79. As a very young guitar player, I idolized Ace and his work on the "Alive" album. "Destroyer" was their last best album, IMO, though it was starting to get very commercial, which is probably the main reason Ace lost interest. It was Ace and Peter that provided the spark that made the band legends. When Ace and Peter left, Gene and Paul tried everything to recreate that spark, and nothing ever worked, even though they hired very good musicians. They eventually figured out the best they could do was hire musicians who played Ace's and Peter's parts to a T, however they still could never recreate that spark and that's what you've seen ever since 1996 reunion, their last best show, IMO. When all four were on stage, the spark was automatic. It is rumored Ace and Peter were invited for the last show, "they said no", according to Gene. It's no wonder the show was bereft of emotion, the guys who helped put that band on the map were not there, and I know it hurt. Final payback for Peter and Ace.

G&P got the "psychology" of this sooo wrong. Even if the people there were, in a way, feeling down about it being the last show, they'd still want it to be about celebrating the many decades of what have led to that moment and get that bittersweet "all good things..." feeling. I guess G&P thought they'd be like "noo what do I do with my life now" and that it was the perfect moment to sell them the avatars. No, that's exactly when you need time to close the book on that big part of your life. I've never been into the post 2000 Farewell Tour Kiss, I've long accepted the band as gone, but everybody's had moments like this in their life, so I can relate. Maybe it just speaks of how G&P have felt about the band for the last decade or so: just business, hardly even glimpses of that feel they had in the 1970s and during the 1996 reunion.

I also thought the virtual band mock up at the end was amazing. I think a remake of phantom of the park with them would be amazing. Hell maybe even a VR concert with them would be sick. I get it though, a few minutes at the end to thank the fans and ex members would have been a nice touch. But I don't hate them for it.

KISS didn’t need to stand up on stage and thank the fans. They have been thanking the fans all the time. They always thank the fans. They didn’t have to stand up there and go on about past members. They have said countless times what Ace and Peter meant to KISS. They have always said that without them there would be no KISS. They have said over and over how important Eric Carr and Bruce were to KISS. During their live shows there are video clips of all the past members. They have said nice things about Vinnie and Mark St John in regards to their talents. They have always said how important Bill Aucoin and Sean Delaney were to KISS. They just didn’t turn it into a big production about past members. They got up on stage and played a great show like they did in the very beginning and like they have done throughout their 50 years. Their live show is what they have been about and that is how they ended it. Mentioning Eddie Trunk’s feelings did not add any credibility to the video. He has been whining about KISS moving on without his buddy Ace for years. It bothers him that they have been able to have great success without Ace so he whines about it. KISS can’t make everyone happy so of course a few are going to whine. If some people are ashamed to be a KISS fan and they want to whine about it oh well they will get over it. If they can’t get over it once again oh well.

Let me just say what we're ALL thinking: Mini KISS should be the real avatars. The true successors to KISS themselves.

You know, being a similar age to those guys I can kind of get it. They’ve been on the road for almost 4 years and 250 shows. It felt like to me that they were just tired and wanted it to be over and I can’t say that I really blame them. I have a hell of a hard time just hauling my ass out of bed in the morning sometimes nowadays, much less keeping a grueling schedule like they did. To be honest I’m amazed they got through the whole tour with as few injuries and illnesses as they did.

They wouldn't have had to worry about any of that if they would have retired 20 years ago, like they should have.

It's arrogant to teach others "they should" have retired! Everyone has the right to work as long as possible.

Of course some were going to be unhappy. You can’t make everyone happy. It’s impossible to do. Still the EOTR tour was a big success and the last two shows were a big success as well. KISS moved on a long time ago without Ace and Peter. It would have been great to see Ace and Peter and even Bruce to make an appearance but for some reason that only they know it didn’t happen. People need to move on and get over it

I gave up on the band after 2004 when Paul had the temerity to continue to slog other members of the band when it became clear that he was a liability because of the loss of his voice. It had nothing to do with Ace or Peter or even the debates over who should wear the paint and who shouldn't. I gave up because so far as I was concerned, they should have ended 15 years earlier. And because Paul and his attitude, pettiness and bullying had become too much for me to support.
That said, they sold well for the final tour and whatever I think doesn't matter. But I'm glad it's over. I would have been happier for all involved if they'd have left with some pride and dignity.

1974, I was age 10 hanging out with my older cousins playing tapes of great bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, just to name a few and they put the First Kiss album on and I never heard anything like it in my short 10 years of life up to that point. After that all I could do for the next 4 years was live, breathe, basically exist everything KISS.
Kiss was amazing in the early days and no matter what anybody says, the Dynasty / Unmasked / The Elder / Creatures Of The Night era were all super fantastic albums even though all the original members were not present on all of those albums.
I actually became embarrassed of Kiss and seriously disinterested with Kiss once the album Lick It Up came out and hated everything they made after that.
The TRUE KISS lineup will always be:
    Ace Frehley
    Peter Criss
    Gene Simmons
    Paul Stanley
No other lineup will ever do.
Kiss should have hung it up after all the turmoil in the early 1980s and Gene and Paul should have just created a whole new entity of a band with a new name, considering the crappy and horrible music they made after Creatures Of The Night was released.
The only thing that Kiss did that was truly the best thing after 1983 was a so-called Farewell Tour in 2000 and I was able to take my two daughters, ages 9 and 7 at the time along so they could experience and enjoy part of my youth.
It was amazing to see my four original musical Heroes that I grew up with on stage for what I thought was the last time but they messed up everything else after that because it should have been the absolute Farewell Tour in the year 2000.
God bless Ace and Peter. And although I'm cringing as I'm saying this, Gene and Paul as
    well.
Kiss should I hung it up after the 2000 Farewell Tour.
They have been a nuisance and an embarrassment since the so-called Farewell Tour in 2000 was over.
I knew all the trouble and persistence of trying to remain as this entity of Kiss would come back to bite Gene and Paul in the ass!
I was actually waiting for Gene Simmons to come out on stage and spit real blood.
    Embarrassment!
