- It's time to. Unveil the hype of Persona 5 Royal and the follow up video to my best confidants in the extended version of Persona 5, after covering the 17 Best Confidants in the Vanilla version. This time, I will rank the 20/23 optional confidants, and give one tip in between every rank. Timestamps have been added for viewing convenience as this project turned out longer than expected. This is without a doubt the MOST information overload video I've ever made! Hope it's worth it!

Thanks everyone for making this one of my most popular videos on the channel! I hope you can check out my other content as I have done two challenge runs on Persona 5 Royal and done a bunch of other games as well. Also, I think I should clarify a few things that some people have brought up. Click Show More to read.
1) "Why is HE #1? I mean you state story is not important, but yet made him number 1 because of that? If that's the case, why isn't Kasumi and Akechi #2 and #3? Aren't they required for the Third Semester content?" Well first of all, yes, Maruki is required to get the Third Semester content. But he's number one because he gives you the full experience of the game, unlocks so much you can't complete with the Vanilla ending, and in my opinion, the Third Semester is a better conclusion than the Vanilla ending as I feel it adds more to the themes and story. And he's number 1 because I want newcomers to make sure they see what the new content has in store as many of them may never do a second playthrough. Also, the whole Akechi and Kasumi needing to be maxed to unlock the Third Semester is the biggest piece of misinformation on the internet. Even Nyarly gets this wrong in his No Velvet Room run. Maxing them out extends their storylines exclusive through their confidant and grants them useful skills like any other party member. But as seen in the Doing Nothing Run, you can have both Kasumi and Akechi at rank 1, and still get the Third Semester as long as Maruki is maxed. With that said, I still highly recommend maxing them out. Akechi will be the only challenging one as you need level 4 knowledge, level 3 charm, and you need him ranked up to 8 before completing the Casino Palace. But if you can max all three out, do it! Just make Maruki the highest priority.
2) "I strongly disagree with Hifumi's placement!" Fair enough! Totally valid if you believe Hifumi is incredibly useful because yes, she is, especially for first time players. Although she's not ranked as high as her best skill is unlocked at rank 1. And as seen in the No Social Stat run, you can manage the entire game on its hardest difficulty without needing to swap party members mid battle, as long as you have your SP recovery options and save up on your somas. But regardless of where she's placed, she's still a confidant you should max out.
3) "Hifumi was not planned as a party member. That's a common piece of misinformation." Now I have no solid proof if this fact was made up by fans or if she actually was a party member at some point. So take that fact with a grain of salt.
4) "You pronounce so-so's name wrong!" Look I don't watch a lot of anime, so I have no doubt I'd be botching some of these Japanese names. Especially the ones that don't ever get voiced acted like "Iwai." Although, even if I pronounce it exactly like how the English voice actors pronounces it, people will still say it it's wrong. I do look through the game to make sure I pronounce certain names right before recording them, so if you still say they're wrong, that's on the English translation, not me.
5) "Typical gay joke of two guys naked in the same tub. You know it's not uncommon for men to do that in Japan. It's natural, nothing gay." I know. That's why it's A JOKE! I don't ship Akechi and Joker together, it's just fun to make jokes on that because a lot of the fan base ships them.
6) "Why is so or so character so low!?" Because that's how a list from least best to best works. Even Ohya who I list as the "worst" is still very useful to gain EXP when fusing Devil personas and to rank up your charm stat. Heck in order to do the part time job at the Crossroads for one the Mementos Requests, you have to have started Ohya's confidant as seen in the No Social Stat Run. Regardless of how low a character is, that doesn't mean I ill-advise bonding with them. Far from that. What I encourage is to max out as many as you can, if not all of them in one playthrough. It's just some of the top ones like Maruki, Kawakami, and Chihaya really help extend what you can do and saves time from needing to deepen a bond with a confidant. Hence why those characters are higher. Everyone's playstyle is gonna differ and the emotional investment in the characters might be a reason for that. Not everyone is gonna agree with this list's order and that's fine. Heck, if I were to do it again, I'd probably rank Akechi a bit higher since the Jazz Club is SO useful in late game, and can be an alternate way to deepen your bond with your party members while also increasing their stats. If you plan to 100% the game, the Jazz Club is the necessity to make the True Rehabilitation fight on New Game + easier as you'll be tested on strong magical damage, the use of ailments/technicals, and landing a critical per turn. You can look up a video to see what stats you need to increase to make the fight possible. It's all subjective, but the short answer is, EVERY CONFIDANT IS USEFUL. So even if I claim one is far more useful but it doesn't match your playstyle or your need to bring your waifu to bed with you, you do what you want to do. Persona is more than just a checklist for completion. It's also a personal experience. So you go by how you want to play the game and what you choose to take away from this video is up to you.
Just skimming through your video to figure out the best confidants and hear you say “so you can get SP drinks on a weekly basis definitely useful if you’re going to attempt a one day palace completion” (me who is playing the game for the first time on hard doing the palace in one day) that could’ve been useful
I mean I guess "Moon-knee-sha" is a good effort for Munehisa. Though if I can indulge on a slightly better way to pronounce it, it would be "Moon-neh-he-sah" if you want a more English visualization. Hope this helps!

I heavily disagree with Hifumi's placement, just for the fact that being able to switch out party members gives you access to so much more versatility and extends your net SP pool. I would say it's at least worth #5 spot. Essentially agreed otherwise.
Fair point. In many ways, I do feel like I put her too low. The only reason I put her this low is because people are bound to at least get the first rank with her anyway, where as the later confidants usually require a max rank to get the best of their abilities. But fair point.

I really liked Yoshida's story. It felt like he was one of us when it comes to being labelled and with the will to change society. While he was once a pretty bad politician, it was from incompetence and not because he was evil and was taken advantage of as a result. He's like the Phantom Thieves' wise uncle and a good example of what the gang would be if they haven't taken their role seriously.
@Duc Nguyen Yoshida does work as an antithesis to Shido. Someone with a grassroots campaign, honest to a fault, and interested in helping others, as opposed to Shido, who's a kiniving bastard.

@@Gammera2000 I'll also add that Shido's whole ideology is one of exclusivity. In his palace you see this entire hierarchy of people. Those allowed into the boat, those allowed access to the restaurant, etc. He only cares for people that can help his career, and got ahead by making powerful connections but maintaining a pristine public image. The grassrots style campaign of Yoshida who has a tarnished image really is the antithesis of Shido, and I really enjoyed Yoshida's confident even more after learning about the Shido storyline
Hifumi deserves a much higher placement. Being able to swap Party members adds so much flexibility to your team. If your team is starting to drop in health, swap one of your party members for Makoto or Morgana. Or alternatively, your team is completely immune to physical attacks, so you swap out Yusuke and Ryuji for members like Ann and Haru. I'd put her in the top 7 at the very least
As a first run player, I agree.. I don't like relying on items and her perks make the game more realistic letting your party members jump in and out..
I would agree with you, but Hifumi's party swap abilities in Persona 5 are mostly abilities that were freely available in P3 and P4, so it's not so much a case of Hifumi being undervalued it's that her essential abilities only exist because the player was nerfed to make her appear more useful.

So a little note on why Makoto represents the High Priestess instead of the empress is because the High Priestess represents wisdom, mystery and knowledge it suggests a silent and steady power or presence one the particularly resides in feminine characteristics. The The Empress is more about fertility and beauty and feminine elegance which reflects Haru’s character.

I actually use the curry a lot 😅 mainly because I always one- shot palaces so having something to restore all allies' SP for spending no money is so nice. During the summer when yusuke and Ryuji visit I always make curry and during my ng+ I used those first two weeks where you can't do anything at night to make a ton of it because I had the recipe card lol
As a first time player, I like Mishima.. One of the few characters who has real life reations to the situations happening around him
If you’re a new player, I recommend that you find your fav party members and put them at the top of your priorities to rank up, the special rewards from evolving their personas is so so worth

Even beyond maruki being necessary for royal’s ending I personally got a lot of use of detox and flow.
Ann's sexy technique was surprisingly clutch. There was even an instance of it activating 2 turns in a row when I should have died to a high level shadow. That combined with the brainwash gun made her a go to party member early on.
I dont see how you could possibly put Akechi so low, considering he gives you access to the Jazz Club
To be honest, some of the most worthwhile stuff you can get on your companions personas aren’t even accessible till the latter months of the game so it’s not insanely strong, at least compared to the palace seed items
Basically if that's his one really good point then and he doesn't do much after then he ain't that high.

Charge on Yusuke though
Tip 1: Always use a persona of the corresponding arcana that the confidant represents, to get extra bonding music notes.
Tip 2: SP items can be bought in the vending machine at the school courtyard, the vending machine in the arcade, and near the bath house. (They restock every Monday)
Tip 3: Reading the "Speed Reading" Book from the school library is a must. This increases the speed in which you will read other books, greatly saving time. This can be borrowed as early as July 1st.
Tip 4: Every Sunday, be sure to buy a drink from the drink stand to increase 1 social stat, this doesn't take up any time but it is expensive as hell at 5,000 yen... save up I guess lmao. Use fortune reading from Chihaya to increase the amount of growth you get in that stat when you drink there.
Tip 5: Whenever you're in a safe room, you should try and quick travel back to the front of the palace to fuse stronger personas mid journey. Fuse towards arcana's with a high confidant rank to get extra XP when fusing, and every 25% you fill out on your compendium, you will get a discount on your next purchased persona.
Tip 6: Getting awards in the thieves den gets you points which you can spend on other cosmetics and trinkets in the thieves den, but some awards are very time consuming. The thieves den tracks across all of your saves, meaning that you can do laundry, reload your save, do laundry again and repeat until you get the "do laundry 10 times" trophy. You can do this for any tedious trophy.
Tip 7: When at Cafe Lablanc, do the crossword puzzle and interact with the TV to occasionally get an increase to your knowledge stat without wasting any time. At 29:31 he lists all of the days that you should interact with the TV, I can't be bothered to type them all out lol. You can also feed your plant upstairs nutrients every 16 days. Feed it the Bio Nutrients from the flower shop to gain 2 kindness points, not the garden energy as they only give 1 kindness point. When Shinjuku is unlocked, buy from their flower shop the "Mega Fertilizer" to get 3 kindness points, at the cost of 15,000 yen. You can also get the Mega Fertilizer early at May 8th on the home shopping program.
Tip 8: At Kichijoji, the most useful stores are the second hand clothing shop instead of washing them. At the fried food shop, Sunday is the only day without a long line to buy the fried beef, and on Sunday nights you can buy an SP restoral item from that shop. There is a temple that increases your max SP, you will gain more the more times you visit. In the alleyway, there is a trader which you can trade 1 item in exchange for another from him. Make sure to carry an MRE Ration from the untouchable vending machine as one of his trades is the MRE Ration in exchange for a Factorization Guide, which increases the amount of knowledge gained when studying. This trade is only available from July 23rd- July 30th! Tight window, be sure not to miss it.
At the Jazz Club, you can increase a party members, SP, HP, Stats, or even level them up. This is only unlocked through Akechi's Confidant, so get on that ASAP. (These stats are doubled when a singer is preforming live) Sunday cocktails give a special ability to chosen party member, Futaba's one being very useful in particular. These can be relearnt on NG+ by going to the confessional booth with the party member you want regaining those special skills. At the penguin sniper, you can increase party member's baton pass strength, by increasing their damage, hp recover and even SP recover on the final rank. At the Billiards, you can increase your down rate and technical damage bye doing it 4 times. For the first time there are no requirements, second time you need to read the Expert Billiards book from the Sports Store, Rank 3 if you buy the jump cue from the Sports Store, and rank 4 if you read a book given to you by an employee of the store. Billiards also increase your bonds by 1 point with all present party members.
Tip 9: Palace infiltration takes 3 days if you are incredibly efficient, taking only 1 day to secure an infiltration route. This is heavily recommended so that you can allocate more time to confidants and other commitments. Be sure to use all of the SP items you have gained from the other tips to try and beat a palace in 1 day. Try and beat Kamoshida's palace in the first week so that you can get to the movie theatre to increase your guts up to level 2 to continue the death confidant. Also read "The Craft of Cinema" in Shinjuku later on. Also complete Madarame's ASAP to unlock the Temperence Confidant. As a general rule of thumb, beat palaces early on to get any mementos requests or Confidants you otherwise couldn't until you beat the Palace.
Tip 10: Don't waste your time with stuff like training on your room, doing the big bang burger challenge, watch new movies, doing laundry, clean Leblanc. While these actions can be sometimes useful, if other more efficient options aren't available, prioritize actions that efficiently raise your social stats, so that you can get to more Confidants as soon as possible. Read books, play video games or spend time with Confidants that also raise stats while also doing other tips that raise social stats mentioned previously for maximum efficiency.
Tip 11: Try and get every stamp podium to get the extra grinding buffs in mementos from Jose. This will sometimes require going through the block of mementos 2 or 3 times to get them all. Increase money and use Chihaya's money reading everyday you are going into mementos to get maximum money. Your stamps will be carried over to NG+, meaning that if you get all stamps on your first playthrough, you can get full cognition upgrades on your first visit to mementos in NG+.
Tip 12: Only do the big bang burger challenge when you know that you will win, and go to the next rank of the challenge, its not worth doing it otherwise for 1 courage point. Do other activities like going to the diner or Takemi's Confidant to increase guts, as well as the drink stand and DVDs.
Tip 13: When a Confidant invites you to a new hangout spot, you will gain bond points with them and another Confidant who happens to be there. New hangout spots are unlocked by reading a book about it, or being invited there. Always accept the invites, as if they take you to a place you have a book about, it will register that book read automatically.
Tip 14: Some books in the Shinjuku Bookstore require certain actions to unlock, such as going to certain places and working certain jobs. There are a lot of them, so go to 1:08:57
Tip 15: Every palace has a treasure demon except for Kamoshida's. These are extremely good to run into, so to manipulate their spawns, try and go for one when you're at a high security level, or by setting down a treasure trap at the start of your infiltration. These can be crafted at Morgana's sixth rank. Capturing these gives you the lowest level persona of some arcanas, which are useful to have on you for Confidants, and defeating them will give a ton of XP and money. If you miss them on a certain palace, you can sometimes find a random treasure demon in mementos, especially on days with bad weather.
Tip 16: Between September 1st to October 10th, the discount store will sell Phantom Thieves Merch. The most useful being a Calling Card Postcard, which you can send to any one of your Confidants restocks every monday. You can also buy this on the shopping program on September 25th. If you send a postcard through the postbox in Yongen Jaya, you can increase your bond with any Confidant by 1 point without wasting any time.
Tip 17: At the darts boards in the penguin sniper, you can increase a party member's rank from 1-3 instantly. Let that party member get the winning shot at the end when the score is low. If you choose the right dialogue option to make them win the game, then they will have the winning shot, boosting their rank from 1-3 Instantly. You can do this twice in a day, and the 2 party members you are with will have 1 bond point as well as the other baton pass buffs, making this an extremely useful commitment of your time.
Tip 18: Because of changes made in the royal version, you are unable to give gifts unless the Confidant is unable to rank up. This means that your window to give gifts is very limited, and you will likely only be able to a few times per playthrough. There is a thieves den trophy that requires you to give 10 gifts, so to avoid playing 5 playthroughs, know that you can give gifts to Confidants that you have achieved rank 10 with. That is a much more efficient way to grind for that trophy.
Tip 19 In NG+, the farewell gifts that you got from your rank 10 Confidants from last game carry over. They provide buffs depending on the confidant that gave you that ability, there are lots of em and i aint writing allat so go to 1:40:47 to find out all of the buffs.
Everything to remember: SP drinks from vending machines every Monday, drink from drink stand every Sunday, crossword puzzle and tv show, bio nutrients/ mega fertilizer every 16 days to plant upstairs, Meat shop every Sunday and Sunday night for SP items, Trade MRE Ration from July 23-30, always have a book, video game or DVD to read/ play/ watch, do big bang burger when you are sure you can win, accept hangouts even if it won't rank up confidant, buy calling postcard September 1st - October 10th every Monday and on Sep 25th on the shopping program, remember to give gifts, have a persona of corresponding arcana to the Confidant.

A note about Security Level. In vanilla, Security Level was more of a Game Over condition because if you let it hit 100%, Morgana kicks you out of the palace and Metaverse, so you have to waste a day of real time, which is dangerous considering you're on deadline. I cannot state how frustratingly awful Madarame's palace was when the octopus in the painting maze knocked me out and I got spotted by four Savage Shadows, which shot the Security to 100% and boom, Game Over. my schedule was utterly buggered. X(
In Royal, even if you have 100% max Security, you don't get kicked out. This is important as you need 100% in Qilopoth World to get Shadows to spawn reinforcements with the Crystal Skull treasure demon. (Yes, they are in Mementos' lowest floor but are 1% rare, you wil likely spawn weaker Treasure Demons, so if you want 100% compendium, you have to spawn them in Qilopoth World. :()
I think security levels aren't even an issue anymore now that the camera rotation was fixed in Royal. the only time, and i mean the only time I ever had the level raise was when i would get behind cover, find out the camera wouldn't turn and then "Oh fucking shit. I ducked out of cover by mashing X and now I got ambushed"
But now that Persona 5 Royal fixed the camera, i have rarely ever gotten ambushed. When I do, it's usually due to me being an idiot

@@GreerL0319 Did I not mention that I got knocked out of a painting and summoned two SAVAGE SHADOWS? Anyways, I am sticking with Persona 5 Royal. Even if I get knocked into a pit of Savage Shadows, I won't get a Game Over, and you also have to get 100% in one of the final dungeons to make Crystal Skulls appear in reinforcements... unless you get lucky in Mementos.

Personally I didn't need to buy that many sp drinks for the time I finished Kamoshida's palace in one go

I didnt buy any. Most enemies go down to Physical skills or guns on Hard leaving most SP for strong Shadows or mini-bosses. You dont need as much Magic healing if you work at 777, increasing Charm in the process, and buy HP items from Takemi. Merciless makes normal encounters easier not harder since triple weakness damage, so it should be the same.
I’m on my first play through of Royal and I don’t recall if I did Kamoshida’s palace in one day. One or 2 days I think. Madarame’s palace and after were all done in one day pretty easily.
I just did it in the first day as well.. it's my first playthrough, but most Palaces seem to tie weaknesses to the person who just got awakened (this is just blind playthrough speculation).. I did grind Berith and a few other higher level bosses,

It is amazingly hilarious how I literally skipped a tire confidant without noticing. I forgot about Kawakami. I dunno how this happened. She told me not to tell anyone so I did nothing about it. It's none of my business what she does XD

I think the reason Takemi is voiced differently in Royal is the same reason for most voice actor changes - Kristen Potter was busy or was too expensive to rehire as she got some fame from doing the original so they had to find a replacement. Since I fast-forward through the original, I didn't hear the original voice but from your comparison I see that Takemi's voice was different.
I swear when I played vanilla she had the same voice as in royal. I swear I'm not crazy

they simply couldn’t reach Kirsten Potter so they recasted her.
I heard Takemi was recasted because the original VA was being called "mommy" 'n shit, and it made her uncomfortable, which is why she didn't come back to voice Takemi again, and also why she deleted her social media accounts

Every time I obtained a new perk from Hifumi, I'd be like "DAMN, that's a really helpful one!!!"
For Jose stamps, there's a fairly easy to way to minimize time spent searching. Futaba, at rank 2, can scan an entire floor. Like Jose appearing, this is tied to entering a floor, not to a new floor, or a floor you have not been to that day.
Go to the mementos level you need stamps for, and head to the end staircase of floor one. Descend to floor two. If Futaba does not scam the floor, turn around and go back to floor one. Repeat, going up and down escalators until she reveals the floor, and then if the floor has a stamp collect it. From the map you can teleport straight up/down a floor, if you've seen the staircase.
I found the 20 or so stamps I needed for the final floor in about 15 minutes. Fairly mindless if you leave sound cues on and listen for Futaba to announce she's scanned a floor
It helps that iwai is one of my favorite confidants. He’s a former yakuza but he’s nice deep down and it’s just so cool! I love characters like that.

@Geetamer p5r gives you a good chunk of time to max out all confidants. I got it on my first playthrough.
As a general rule of thumb I always recommend prioritizing your party members over other NPCs as maxing their S. Links gives them more immediate benefits in battle and eventually upgrades their Personas. Within them I generally recommend Ryuji > Ann > Yusuke > Makoto = Akechi > Futaba > Kasumi = Haru. Akechi makes things slightly easier in that he's a night link while everyone else is a day link, but nights are actually pretty competitive in this game so tread a little more on the careful side with him.
Following them is Mishima and Kawakami because their perks are incredibly beneficial for the overall quality of life for the run. I cannot overstate how useful having more available actions to take in the day is, especially if you unlock it as early as possible, which is usually around mid-July. The extra EXP from Mishima is also really nice for making sure Morgana doesn't stay too weak while he's warming the bench. You can also probably fit Takemi into this slot since shotgunning her first few ranks lets you buy the SP Adhesive 3 much earlier, though if you have the DLC you can also just Itemize Izanagi-no-Okami for a much better version of that item as soon as you get access to the Electric Chair.
Next would be the Chihaya and Yoshida; the former because she has a lot of nice perks that make levelling up the social stats faster and thus reaching your thresholds sooner, and the latter because he is on a time limit. Next you of course you have Maruki, which is more relevant for the bonus content for Royal version but he typically doesn't compete with other Confidants too much.
The rest are all mostly night-time Confidants and they have extremely lenient opportunities to work with so maxing them out should be no trouble. Strength (The Twins) are by far the lowest priority since they can be done at any time, and while having super strong Personas available as early as the fourth palace is really nice to have, you don't need it nearly as much if you want to preserve any semblance of challenge the game still has, and the fact that you can get it all done in one sitting is a great point in favor of waiting until you have the means to finish it all at once.

By using guides for dialogue options and seeing when confidants are available, you can very easily start to map out your confidant hangouts. And my personal motto is "If you can't hangout with someone, then increase social stats". Also, there are two very important characters to go for first: Kawakami and Chihaya. Kawakami makes it so that going to Palaces and Mementos doesn't lock you out of your night confidants, and you can even do Confidant Mementos requests for nighttime confidants, then go and rank up with them as soon as you get back. And Chihaya makes it so you will almost always be able to force a confidant to be in Rank Up conditions before you hang out with them, not wasting any time with them
I gotta say this is one in a handful of turn based jrpgs that didn't felt boring or tedious. It's visual stylistic choices still stand out to me from anything I have ever played these 18 years.
I think it's cause cutscenes are so freakishly long so you get some fresh air before heading back.
This is amazing content. Just a good overview of everything, and I learned stuff too! Had no idea Chihaya's confidant was good, ignored her cus she took so much work to unlock I got mad. Also didn't know about the sunday drinks, nor the fact that Jazz buffs pass over to NG+.

Well... Information is really useful, but i want to correct you:
1. (33:50) You can improve your guts if you sit down on the couch in front of furniture store in Kichijoji. Easy missable.
2. (38:23) Start, not complete.
3. (57:23) You can farm blank cards in path of adyeshach if you max out Jose's Item reward up.
4. (1:31:00) You can obtain powerful personas (Red glowing) if you overleveling them, instead of talking to them or trying to fuse in velvet room.
5. (1:33:22) Confidants can give you some items for decorating your room if you walk with them in exact spots.
I don't wanna read all the comments, so if i'm not the first who talks about what i'm saying before, it's fine by me.
One note about the Strength Confidant: While you should max them out of the first playthrough, you can't max them out as soon as you are able to unlock the Confidant. This is because their Rank 9 request is a Persona called Bugs, which is only available in Advanced Fusion and only when you obtain the key item Sticky Hairball, which is the item you get after defeating a Bugs as part of a Mementos Requests you can only get after the third palace on July. (Correct me if I am wrong about the date.) Until you get the Sticky Hairball from that Mementos request, Bugs will not appear in the Advanced Fusion list.

Just finished playing Royal this week. I did a (mostly) blind playthrough of it so I can enjoy the story as best I can without spoilers... though I did needed insight to get to the "true" ending at the last possible time.

1. Max a lot of confidants. Even though I spammed cleaning LeBlanc and eating BigBang. The total opposite of this video and I still had so many social point gained after I maxed it all before December.
2. Had millions of yen. Didn’t use the Fortune teller for money only confidant boost. Didn’t star up Jose for money. I just maxed exp.
3. Didn’t read guides on when efficiency skill books were available. Such as the library book. I got that about 2 weeks late. No issues. I read all the books needed and alot for skills.
Please, just enjoy the game and have fun.
100% agree. Sure you can always be more efficient and will be on future playthroughs but the nice part about this game is that none of that is a necessary. You are free to play and enjoy the game at your own pace and that’s ultimately what really matters. It also helps having a nice story, with loveable characters, good gameplay, etc. I love persona 5, one of my favorite games and series of all time.

I actually did Kamoshidas palace first go around my first playthrough. It wasn't too hard but I was also on normal. I was also super combative and fought every shadow I could. All of this without really stocking up on sp recovery items. I mostly just used gun and physical attacks and healing items as I had no idea how good certain magic attacks were

You can get an item from akechi if you go to the jazz club on the last day you get his glove
I assume more people will come to this video so I will add more spoiler free info here:
- All your max Confidants can be seen in the Theives Den
- Showtimes can be activated with only one person(So if you had the Ryuji and Makoto Showtime, only Ryuji or Makoto are needed)
- Lottery tickets can also give you a lot of money(It's chance, but with the money you get from momentos, the more the better)
- Lock picking Treasures can give you unique and powerful items for your party members(So if you can't leave, and want something handy always craft the max lock picks you can)
- You can obtain previous will seeds with Jose(Although they cost 400 flowers so :/)
- Jobs actually have a chance with you meeting a confidant and raising the bond with them
- Always save up mementos request, usually 3 - 5 depending on level
- Always buy books, you never know when the train is going to be free
This is all I have noticed so far, but will come back with anything else

Man. You missed so much. The strength persona is one of the most useful when it comes to having it easy. Like I was level 50 and walking with persona at level 90. 😂
I had no clue the Strength confidant was a thing on my first playthrough of vanilla either. Only reason I even found out it existed was because I went for the rest of the trophies my NG+ playthrough and ended up having to do those dreaded quests for them

yeah man in my first playthrough I pretty much completely ignored sun and strength, and I dont think I utilized the skill card mechanics even once. literally all I'd do is work on my social stats. and then when they were maxed out by the time I got to saes palace I realized that there were literally tons of indirect ways to get stat points without passing time. I was so pissed with myself for the rest of my playthrough, and I only managed to max like 5 or 6 confidants

I think Haru has a much closer arc to mitsuru. But I suppose Makoto has a personality closer to mitsuru, though she mellows out as soon as she joins the party for the most part whereas mitsuru is a hardass until December and even then she doesn't change much

I love how the bottom of your list (aside from Ohya) are all the people I spent most of my time with.
Ohya's perk is going to be a hindrance if you want 100% Compendium, because one treasure demon, the Crystal Skull, has only two spawn points: The newly added annex to Mementos, where it is a 1% spawn rate when you get a treasure demon spawn, and in the final path in World of Qlipoth... AND YOU CAN ONLY GET IT AS A REINFORCEMENT, which means your security level must 100% to make enemies spawn reinforcements. That means you have to let enemies ambush you twice as much if the Devil is at Rank 10. And if you miss the Qlipoth spawn, you have to farm Mementos in Third Semester which will take forever. :(
Also, you don't take DLC into account, which I think is fair as not everyone has $30 to throw around, but buying the Persona Q2 DLC costume pack will give you eight Cinema Straps, which are accessories that give you the Heat Up ability, which is better than SP Adhesive 3 as it recovers 7 PERCENT of your SP, not just a flat 7 SP. I should write a revised guide to Optinoob's guide to help people out if they want to spend money on the DLC.
Crystal Skull is that rare? It didn't take that long to get it for me on 3rd semester.
Crystal Skulls didn't seem that rare. Orihalcum seemed to show up less frequently and even then not by much.
Also why would you spend $30 on DLC for a full-priced game for a Heat Up accessory? Heat Up only works in ambushes so it's useless in boss fights where you need SP recovery the most.

I look at the tips on this game and I must say... I royally screwed up my first playthrough by not doing what you suggested. Like I could have gotten so much, but instead, I pretty much resigned myself to my Social Stats, not really using the other systems provided. Like these are genuinely great tips and I have only done maybe one or two and it was already so late into the game that it felt like it didn't matter. This was before I discovered this channel and I was playing mostly blind anyway, but man... To think I could have been more efficient and I never bothered to look anywhere else. At least NG+ I can concentrate on raising my Confidants though, maybe 100% them if I plan it just right.

I’ve probably spent at least half my play time in Mementos and the Velvet Room fusing powerful Personas, and customizing my favorite weak Personas into ridiculous powerhouses.

Im more shocked at my rpg abilities that I’ve done so much without this til video and now feel more confident to max out everything on my first run.
FYI insta kill is considered an all out attack why I don’t know but that means money reading works on it so that’s another reason that makes it op
my first regular NG playthrough i maxed out every confidant, got everyone's baton pass to rank 3, and got everyone's 3rd awakening except kasumi, the only reason i didnt do technical rank and kasumi's 3rd awakening (keep in mind i did get her to rank 10 so i did get vanadis) is because I was unaware of the existence of both of those features, but as on the day that you need to get kasumi's 3rd awakening I used the day to go to mementos just cause i didnt know what else to do, and i had so many free nights after i maxed out every single nighttime social link early in the 3rd semester, im very certain its possible to max out every social link, get all 3rd awakenings, get all baton pass ranks to 3, and technical rank to 4 in 1 regular NG playthrough, as i had the time to do all of that i just didnt know those were options

I wish there was a only tips version of this, the tips I learnt here was the best out of any vid I’ve seen (super new persona player just beat first palace) like with speed reading the the golden vending machine and about getting plus 2 guts super easily for death confidante along with others, I only watch this to get a feel of the best confidante but then stayed just for the tips they are unimaginably useful
I don't understand the Big Bang Burger slander. Failing the challenge at level 1 is pretty useless, sure, but failing it at level 2 gives you +2 guts, which absolutely can come in handy in some niche scenarios, and the +3 guts that you get from failing at level 3 is definitely pretty good and has unquestionably been useful to me a few times.
While that is true, why go for +3 guts when you can do something else then go for the repeatable +3 omni-boost (minus Kindness) after you know you can succeed?

I just have to send the calling card and then I get leave but I can’t find the place to do that at. I keep checking the map. So lost. Can’t wait to play again tonight.
If you've secured your infiltration route, you've to leave the palace and send the calling card the next day. You do that by gathering at your secret hideout (rooftop or accessway at Shibuya, can't remember which).
My first play through is coming to a close. I never figured out good places to get SP recovery items, but I still did most palaces in 1 day to as few as possible for those that kick you out. But I also learned resource management in older games that weren't nearly as forgiving. So I've certainly made it work and one dayed nearly all the palaces.

So about Maruki, I hear ya but I wouldn't call him the number 1, simply because of his perks not being that amazing.
Yes he is number 1 in priority as you need him for the extra content, but I see that more as a restriction set in the game, rather than an unlock by Maruki.
If you’re not going for the absolute 100% completion then there is ample time to do basically whatever since it’s not like maximum efficiency is required. I personally am not going to bother with some confidants.
P.S if you want knowledge fast for better test scores take advantage of rainy season since you can casually have rank 4 before the deadline of palace 3
1:32:40 - Godammit! I just spent well over 100 hours on a P5R run wondering why Ryuji's Insta-kill didn't work in this version. There's nothing in the game to indicate that Insta-kill works in the exact opposite manner as vanilla, and Royal is incredibly lenient with ambushes compared to the original.
Also, definitely agree with the Fortune SL. I ignored her fortune telling skills in my many vanilla playthroughs because I just assumed it took up a time slot, and only found out recently I was wrong. In a similar manner, once you gain access to the temple (forget date it's available), you can spend 1000 yen to increase any SL by 3 points, although it does take up an after school/daytime slot.

I don't think i have ever bought SP items that aren't the SP recovery 3 items that Takemi sells... Even on Hard and Merciless on a fresh file, i never seem to go below half SP during a one day infiltration, especially in Royal... It was a little harder to manage in vanilla with guns being limited in ammo, but never to the point where i felt like the SP resources i could make or find in palaces or Mementos weren't enough to easily grind and make my way to the end.
Hell, it was only when i was going over the trophy list to get the platinum in vanilla that i even discovered that you could buy drinks from vending machines!

I’m gonna be honest, this is a nearly 2 hour video ranking each confidant…did you expect there to be no discussion of the story progression or confidant perks?
Just to add this, not many people know this but you can low key farm for SP items but the only thing the thing will affect is either the item allocation or how deep you are in meme-ntos. When you see an atm like machine at the start of every platforms, use third eye and when you see glowing on the right side and you see, once you know what it looks it you will see it. It looks like an ATM machine either on wall or standalone machine, When you break you will get sp items from snuff soul up to soul food. The amount varies by the item allocation and they appear very randomly and quite rare so the more item allocation the greater amount of sp item you'll get and the deeper you are in mementos the better quality the SP items will get.
Only a handful of people know this trick and apparently it's in the vanilla version too but it only appears rarely.
When you see what it looks like you dont need to do third eye over and over at the start of the train platforms.

When it comes to Yoshida's Confidant in the original if any of the options were red when negotiating (besides the auto acuiring a persona one) then you could not ask for more money if you asked for money. However in Royal you can always ask for more money if you select the money option.
The only chance factor is that I believe the chance of obtaining the extra money and items is determined by your social stats, so it's recommended to level them up too

God this is my first play through of P5R after finishing vanilla version couple of years ago and didnt know I needed Maruki to unlock the extra content. I went in thinking it would just unlock by itself and just found out from this video but its too late. Well, I had in mind a third play through of this game but now I really got to do it.
I'm playing P5R right now in 2023 after having seen playthroughs of P5 and P5R, and this video is teaching me A LOT, so it makes me excited for NG+. I'll be back to watch more of your content, really well-made video, I like your style!

One thing you didn't mention about the Twins Outings is that they give you the Skill Cards needed for there Confidant
I think only two or three outings give you a skill card needed for penal labour, but yes, getting a free Samarecarm card did make things much easier.
The other thing about the outings is that completing all of the Twin Wardens outings unlocks a final outing in the third semester which gives you the Enduring Soul skill card. Not necessarily a unique skill by this point, but good to have. Just kinda wished I had the foresight to have had Yusuke duplicate it before I finished the game so I had 2 for NG+.
Man randomly watching this makes me want to play and beat this amazing game a 3rd time haven't played it for over a year put 200+ hours into my 2 previous playthroughs with the 3rd semester it would be so awesome if they made a brand new persona game for new gen consoles

When I played the Vanilla version whenever I unlocked a new floor in Mementos, I clear it out just so that I don't have to make an extra trip fulfilling requests.

Hi NitsuaGamer! I thank you for the tips of this video and I know this was uploaded over 2 years ago. I just started playing the P5R when it came out for the Nintendo switch last October 21, 2022. Just to let you know, I was able to play the Vanilla version on the PS4 back in 2017 - 2018. Anyways, I've learned a lot of tips from this video especially for some confidants that don't necessarily need a persona when bonding with them. And my suspicion about the voice actor for the Death Arcana Confidant has been confirmed was changed due to unknown reasons. Another thing that I wanted to confirm was, did the Temprance Arcana Confidant used to have a mole near her lips in the vanilla version? Or maybe it was I having a Mandella effect? Well, anyways, Good job on this video! Keep up the good work!😁
