Honestly I would've not objected to you using Save States for the Nyx Arcana Phases. I think it could have been a nice middle point between keeping your sanity while maintaining the "Spirit of the Run". In any case, great video and huge thumbs up for getting basically there! Keep the good stuff coming!
It came to my attention that Persona 3 bosses have limited SP pools like they do in 4 and 5, if it turns out that all of Nyx’s phases share from the same singular SP pool despite the 13 unique HP bars, you could simply let the party die at Magician or Priestess by preference and hunker down until Nyx Avatar stops casting magic. Then brute force the rest of the fight without fear of Moonless Gown or Night Queen at the Death phase. I think, this is a huge leap.
Actually, you can get the good ending… by starting the Tanaka Social Link on New Years, which skips the rest of the day and confuses the game into skipping to the ending sequence.
30:26 Jin was probably just so surprised and flabbergasted at Junpei’s persona evolving in the middle of a standoff that he could not inherit his persona’s strengths
1:20:03 - Can confirm. Two other UA-camrs gave it shot, the first was RPG challenge-runner (mainly no grinding or 0 EXP) MoogleBoss. They made it to Nyx Avatar and even fudged the rules a bit by beating The Reaper before Takaya (in part to grinding fixed damage stones and leaning on those for DPS). They had to give up though because recording the Nyx Avatar fight for hours at a time kept crashing the game during promising runs. The other was Jodi Mckillop, who actually succeeded two years ago and put the hour of footage up.
It'll never not be hilarious that two of the game's most emtoional scenes are followed immediately by Changing Seasons. "Shut the fuck up about your dad, Mitsuru, I'm getting my groove on."
I remember being there for the final Tartarus guardian, that was hype. But yeah man, I don’t blame you for not doing it. I’ve seen people use up literally 10 hours or so on Lucifer from SMT 3, during challenges, and I’m just like, how? How do they not get tired? You had damn high persistence going as far as you did. Nice vid man, definitely improving and going along. 🔥😮💨
Just the icing on the cake when you consider the sheer amount of editing Deus put into that video, really. But yeah, unless it's going to be worth it, it's totally alot of dedication most people don't have unless it's a paying full time job.
(SPOILERS FOR THE RESULT OF THE CHALLENGE) There's something almost poetic about how this ended: the challenge was impossible, but you pushed to the end and fought as hard as you could despite that. Let's just call this the timeline where Ryoji was right that Nyx cannot be defeated, but SEES still fought to the bitter end for humanity's souls. FR tho, it's insane you managed to get this far in the grindiest Persona game of them all (that is the modern ones with life sim elements, not including 1 and 2). You are a madman.
It was a great run though, nice work! It is a very difficult final boss, you did everything else possible and some of those endgame Tartarus bosses were tough and it was great seeing you think of clever solutions to beat them.
I respect showing that the final boss fight is theoretically possible but not doing it since it would require far too much luck and time for most people's sanity to handle. It would be really cool to see someone do it someday, though.
1:16:59 - Why not split the experience with only Ken once you get him? The extra experience from two less party members hogging the EXP could let him get full-party healing AND let him do more damage on downed enemies with Cruel Attack to substitute for All-Out Attacks (which would be even more hilariously weak than they already are due to your even lower low levels across the board). Plus the stronger single meat shield with the power to heal is likely be handier than the three weakling meat shields that have to totally lean on you for everything. Doubt you’d have enough extra EXP to get Vile Assault or Diarahan though.
I like how when I first played P3P I was doing mostly only mandatory fights and avoided random encounters as much as possible because that's simply my playstyle. Yeah that all came to bite me back at Nyx
I was afraid Nyx might be the end of this challenge but still huge congrats for even getting this far, this was impressive. Also YES to hating the Changing Seasons track, though i never realized the timing with certain happenings in the game is that hilariously dark :D
i have seen videos of low level TDE in nocturne and from what i've seen it seems easier to do this challenge in nocturne than in persona thanks to 4 tiers of buffs and because your party members are heavily customizable demons persona 1 might be possible because you can get megidolaon stone from casino near the beginning
Jim Reaper did low-level Hard TDE in Nocturne Hardtype, with on 46(?) points of EXP from anything other than bosses or other mandatory battles. Considering how this mod cranks up the difficulty, this is seriously impressive!
I tried this challenge on Final Fantasy VII, had a similar road block with "Demon's Gate" and 'Carry Armour", though unlike you, I continued the run using the infinite limit break QOL enhancement for those only. Great attempt though, you did great
Is say that you could say mandatory includes side quest shadows if you say your playing for 100% completion and that includes new game plus as you could say 100% includes seeing all endings. So the strategy would be to get the bad ending with as high a completion percentage possible such as side quests end and then start a gain from a better position. Yes this does mean doing repeat guardians but I'd call that what you need to get to the side quests and thus still mandatory.
congrats on making it as far as you did! there's an exploit with the carnal snakes fight. they like to cast fire break on anyone with fire immunity. idk if your aigis didn't have dekunda yet at that point, but she can cast it constantly to remove the effect of fire break forcing the snakes to recast it. have a fire immune protagonist, koromaru and junpei attack and keep taking fire breaks for an infinite loop.
Good to know where Ann learned how to spam Dekaja, she learned from the Carnel Snake enemies. How fitting that Girimehkala came to your rescue here after the pain he caused during the Doing Nothing Run of P5R. A shame you could not finish, but I still salute you for getting as far as you did. o7 Something I am wondering about is seeing as the party was over level 43, would Yukari have been the better choice over Ken since she would have had Mediarama, although, the fact that Nyx can use Almighty Strike twice in a row might throw a monkey wrench into that idea. Having recently beat P3P for the first time, I experienced the difficulty spikes of Persona 3 firsthand, even with direct commands being added in Portable, I still found some of the fights brutal and required a bit of finesse to get through.
Alright, finally able to watch this video. Great job man, even though i don't know whether you be the first person to beaten Nyx Avatar without Grinding or Low Level here Also, the logic here is that Story Mode Boss Fights which have fixed dates (such as the Full Moon or EXP have massive EXP like a Boss Fight Should. But all Tartarus Guardians have the same EXP as Normal Random Encounters for some reason. Sometimes even worse than Random Encounters because you can use Wand/Leaves on Shuffle Time to increase EXP. Yeah, i have no idea why Tartarus Guardians have pitiful EXP, because it encourage Grinding in Tartarus perhaps? *Shrugs*
Actualy you can beat persona 3 fes with only mandatory battles. I got the idea from a Demi-Fiend Nocturne only run, just drain Nyx's entire SP in the first phase (she will just pass her turn), after that you can just win (if the MP is shared like i heard)
I'd be curious about the math: assume you did this challenge as a solo-run (or killed all party members before the end of each battle) and funneled all the exp into Makoto. We should be able to calculate exactly what level you'd get up to, so what level is that? And could you win using that level? It's hard to say but it's got me curious about the hypotheticals
The two things that got me during my fes playthrough is the fact technically revolver Jesus should’ve shot makoto or someone standing next to him because my man DID NOT aim but hit Junpei. Also block 5 of Tartarus makes me feel like how hell would be when overly religious people say gays go to hell. Fun times!
I was expecting you to use save states at the start of each phase during the Nyx fight (or just abuse them outright), so I'm a bit surprised you didn't even mention the possibility while listing other things you wouldn't do to beat Nyx. I'm also kinda wondering how a Makoto-only min battles run would go now... On a sort of related note, I've wondered for a while how hellish a run where you waited until 1/31 to fight any Tartarus guardians would be. Considering the grind it would probably require to be able to beat the Full Moon Shadows without reaching higher levels of Tartarus, I doubt it would really be worth considering unless you used cheats to get Monad early without any of the other advantages of NG+, and that would be its own hellish grind early on.
Can you not visit the shrine, one of the effects grants bonus XP after battles. I don't know how much of a difference it makes but it could make a difference?
High Counter only has a 20% chance of going off, not 50% You speak of Persona 5 as if it has a dramatically different last month like 3 and 4 have, but nothing happens. "Of the 3 Persona games" damn, poor Persona 1 and 2... you should really play those ones sometime, they're better than 5.
@@helpihavebats6392 I can't speak for the very first version of P3, but in FES at least it's definitely 20%. I just fought Elizabeth recently and High Counter almosy never went off when she used physical attacks.
It would honestly be easier in Reload due to the ability to use Direct Commands for allies, Theurgy skills being really strong and nerfs to some infamous mini bosses like the Sleeping Table. But... Given how badly the Reload No Attacking run went, I do not blame him at all for not wanting to do another Reload run.
Akihiko was right, never skip out on training...
Huge respect for getting so far, man!
lore accurate nyx fight be like
Cornball
real
Insane how far you pushed this play through.

40:29 Crazy how all of SEES had to lie to Aigis to get her ultimate Persona
LMAO
Well, you CAN finish the game without grinding...but only if you gets the bad ending 😂
Actually, you can get the good ending… by starting the Tanaka Social Link on New Years, which skips the rest of the day and confuses the game into skipping to the ending sequence.
Gotta be real, I ADORE changing seasons

Same thing happened to me. I was in the last week of the game and I realised Fuuka's social link was reversed.

I love just how casual the dodge is too.

It's kinda weird to think that even as a casual run on easy mode people had to grind to not have a hard time playing this game back then

well done.

does the reaper not count? i’d say you can find the reaper at least once and see if that can help anythint, but i highly doubt it
Not a mandatory encounter. Ergo, fighting The Reaper breaks the rules.

whats about armageddon?
New game and is only mandatory battles so no 9999 spell
Burn my bread
Would the challenge change in any meaningfull way if it was done in P3P? Or controlling your party is not enough for Nyx?
Persona 3 reload mandatory battles only run when?
