    Wavetables are misunderstood - they're not as complex as they first appear - in fact they're an amazingly simple way of making complex tones easily. Throw some granular into the mix and you've got unlimited pad making abilities.

    This is akin to the old days of using a sampler to create a monster layered sound from various synths or multi-tracking a single device to get possibilities that the standard workflow would not allow..

    I love how you sit the 3rd Wave on your lap, as if it's your baby lol

    I can see you're really enjoying the 3rd Wave. I really need to spend some time with my Wavestation.

    Wavetable synthesis is great. Pick some wavetable, select some waveform - then modulate it with both an LFO and an envelope. Instant textured and non-repetitive pads with so little effort.

    Just curious what are your fave 5 symths?

  • @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene
    @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene Місяць тому

    Yes, wavetables seem to be the next synthesis for me, 35 years with subtractive and 5 years with FM, I was thinking granular next (Tasty Chips) but going to wavetables, just bought the Gaia2 so we shall see when it arrives. I have wavetables in my MinilogueXD but so few and so unusable. Don't do computers in music, so software instruments are out of the question. The 3rd Wave was the first expensive (over $3000 US) synth I have ever considered. Also using what you could somewhat call wavetables by using my analog synths into a sampler and building up my own sounds with layers of patches, and then playing the final re-sample with a keyboard, this is very powerful and unlimited. You need a very good high quality sampler to accomplish this, I am using the 1010Music BlackBox. Question: Does the 3rd wave allow panning of the individual oscillators?

      Waldorf M is a cheaper alternative to 3rd Wave, can be had under $2000 no problem. Packs less voices than 3rd Wave though (16 max vs 24) and 2 oscillators versus 3 - but hey, you get what you pay for in this case.

      Ask with all due respect and without double intent. Do you recommend that people not use computers for this or do you just say that you don't use them and why? For some reason I feel that in this video the Pigment arrives and I don't know if it will reach the richness of the 3rd WAVE. And I don't know if you mean that or just because you don't like screens. YES you can answer me thank you

      @@abletonflow4673 i am 100% hardware for music, don't want to look at music, just listen, plus computers complicate everything, don't need one for music. The 3rd wave does not need a computer to prepare the wavetable for keyboard play and editing. That is the best feature of the 3rd Wave, an automatic preparation of the wave. This mean you can just playing anything or drop in anything and go through wave at a rate of maybe 10 an hour. Where with other wavetable hardware synths like the Peak and Summit, they must be prepared on a computer with Novation's proprietary software.
      If you're using a software instrument, preparing the waves on the computer for a the computer should be an easy workflow...should be....????
      I use computers all day long for my graphic design business, got to have computer for that. Don't have to for music. I use a ZoomR24 24 track hardware SD recorder instead.

    Unfortunately for my wallet, to my ears the 3rd wave sounded a LOT better than Pigments in this example (Obviously not that surprising considering the price difference). The 3rd wave is my dream poly synth really so I guess I'd better start saving...

      I should really have attempted to make similar tones, but was trying to show something g a little different to demo the range and types of wavetables.

    • @cl1xor
      @cl1xor Місяць тому +2

      You could consider the Waldorf M, they go really cheap here now. Although Pigments is awesome i feel my tracks got more punch with the M up to the point i don't even need FX.

    • @wrmusic8736
      @wrmusic8736 Місяць тому +1

      as mentioned above you can go with M. But either way do remember that by default, when you are just learning this type of synthesis, any wavetable synth will sound thin and weak. Like there's a reason classic subtractive waveforms are so powerful with little change - wavetables are all about movement, they need modulation to get phat af - and they do.

      @@wrmusic8736 Hence the original PPG waves had analog CEM filters to give them some heft and colour.
