  • This Black History Moment is about Dayton Ohio's Funk Music Legacy! Bands like the Ohio Players, Lakeside, Faze-O, Heatwave and Zapp featuring Roger Troutman, all found their roots right here in Dayton Ohio, which makes this Black History Moment close to home! Not only that, but Leahcim Warren, our host for this video, is the son of Zapp trumpet player Michael Warren and the 1st Lady of Zapp, Jannette Boyce! Thank you Leahcim, you were fantastic!! We think the world of you sir!!

No doubt that *Ohio state* (The Land of Funk) Is the place with MOST classics *Funk BANDS* , BUT the "controversy" Is *about where the musical" Funk concept WAS BORN* : Many serious scholars musical researchers says was down in New Orleans with the adoptation of mid-tempo "Second Line" beat (with their Caribbean influences) on R&B. When James Brown recorded "I've Got Money" and The legendary "Live At The Apollo" (1962) he hired a trained by NOLA drummer, the floridian Clayton Fillyau. Listen 1965 Lee Dorsey's "Get out my Life Woman" (composed by Allen Toussaint): Boom bap Hip Hop beat many years before.

The mistake I think there are making is not including all of Ohio funk artists. I'd do support Dayton Hall of Fame... me being the official Rock Hall archive videographer for over 10 years. (1997-2007)
The one thing that Rock Hall did is to include different genre.
Dayton can't forget the Isley Brothers(Cinc) Bootsy Rubber Band(Cinc) The Deele(Cinc) Midnight Star Galloway brothers(Cinc/Kent)The Dazz Band(CLE) Kid Funkadelic (CLE)and vocalist Howard Hewitt, James Ingram, Macey Gray, and Tracy Chapman etc.
Dayton bands along won't have a major impact.
