This was the band in the 70’s.... played song to death in the 70’s as teenager and other Ohio Player songs. This is some of the best music ever when people played instruments and entertained you.

Now yeah. Back in my day they were the top funk band in the nation. George Clinton came to visit almost weekly to find his grouve to part from the rock he was playing. They had a whole other vibe until their leader got drunk and quit his own dam band. They wrote Funky Worm and became a national sensation just after PAIN kinda began the Funk Movement taking blues and adding a whole other grouve then placing the drama of the bass driven back. Sly did it and those who had a ear picked up on it then FUNK was born

This was way before sampling. These dudes are playing all of those instruments, tight the horns, the percussion, the keys the guitar is the best vocals, real musicians.

Heard this walking into TJ disco 1974 thought it was live band playing through some JBL what not, I thought this is going to catch on. Place was packed. Disco did catch on but I was in that club couple years later and it was dead loved the pinwheel lights. I forget the name.

I was young during the disco era, in college and grad school, didn’t get to experience it. Since i turned 65, officially out of the race and doing my own thing, this is what i listen to!
I would like to remind you that your generation was and still better than mines. I’m 26 years old but I always seem to go back to old school music for healing. Music back then felt more genuine.

I saw Sugar Foot and the Ohio Players in a small nightclub in Los Angeles in the mid 90's. They started playing and I jumped up on stage dancing with Sugar Foot! They were jamming and had the whole place dancing and singing! One of the GOAT bands in the 70's.

A song like "Fire" is the result of a lot of hard work not just spontaneous combustion. W.C. Handy, Louis Armstrong, Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimi Hendrix on through the R&B/Funk bands these guys had music training. The number of members of this band of players is long, they were formed in 1959.

I'm from Dayton and Junie and Roger Troutman were the musicians that every musician from Dayton aspired to be as good as :-) They were truly "off-the-charts" creative/gifted and could play multiple instruments...very, very well. For us, I guess they were like Prince was for Minneapolis musicians :-)

They did. Their front man , on trumpet (Satch) reportedly handled their money - ended up Not paying their taxes etc. Spent alot of money on lavish things for himself. That were shocked when IRS hit them with a huge tax debt - they thought the saxophone man Satch was taking it outta their earnings handling their business.

Wrong...They didnt pay their taxes..He split the royalty checks with them..
@@ohioplayer Satch handled their money. Paying them outta their royalties, performances etc. They THOUGHT he was paying their taxes in the process of handling the money, but he wasn't. They didn't find out until IRS hit each of them with a HUGE tax debt. They each had to answer to IRS, scrape up money and make installments to pay off IRS. They were furious with Satch because even though he gave them money for shows, royalties etc., the books and receipts showed a lotta more money went thru his hands unaccounted for that shouda been going toward taxes. They wanted to know what he did with that excess money...but I think he in turn got angry and gave them his azz to kiss. They filed a lawsuit against him..he bailed ship.
My parents were going through a stressful divorce in 1974. My Mom sent me with my older sister to see the Ohio Players in concert. Shut the front door! As a child I was impressed with the whole experience. It was a highly multiple sensory concert.

I Saw them in concert in 1979 at Hampton Colosseum in Hampton VA with Rick James , Raye Parker and Radio. What a Wild Collection of FUNK !!!!!!

I remember when I was working at this hotel in Long Beach they stayed at our hotel cuz they were playing in Long Beach and I had to make a delivery to the bass players room and I got to sit and talk with him for a little bit. He let me play his base. Well attempt to try to play his base. It was such a wonderful time. They were so nice for those in the group who has passed on. May you rest in peace and Funk Forever!!!!

They didn’t get all the appreciation they deserved because people back then too often compared them to 🌍, 💨 and 🔥 which had nothing to do with the unique Ohio Players groove. I loved them both and still do.
