This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, I love using soundfonts but have never gone too deep as I’ve been terrified by the legality of using it in commercial work, I’ve been wishing something like this existed for so long
this is so great. as far as future expansions go, the ps2 ambient/jungle era music…oh man…can’t wait for presets like that. but take your time!!! you’ve clearly worked hard on this!
I mostly work with samples and I literally just wanted an easy solution that had a bunch of nostalgic sounds in it that I could use to fill out my songs - this is fantastic! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the way of expansions.
Been loving your Soundfont packs but this is next level, congrats on a great release! I'll be checking out the free version and saving up some money to support you in the new year! On a side note, your packs are original sounds, right? Sound-alikes? I've been getting into soundfonts but have been skeptical about using them in original works, fearing automated takedowns in the future even though Toby Fox got away with it. The last thing I would want is to have my music finally make it into a game, only for it to get copyright struck. Guess I gotta get into synthesizing my own!!
Thank you! And yeah all of my soundfonts and this plugin are made up of 100% original samples, nothing ripped from games, romplers, sample packs or anything like that. Legally distinct and totally safe to use in anything commercial or otherwise.
@@titanmoruma5834 Unfortunately the program I used to make this doesn't have official Linux support. However, there are options. Some Linx-based daws support VST2 and there is a VST2 version. Otherwise, you can use something like Carla to load a vst on Linux.

imagine he takes it a step up and adds controller support, so that you can hit the buttons and the function is executed. For example pressing L1 or R1 makes you browse patches. If you rotate your analog sticks the Depth or Rate of LFO will be in or decreased. That would be pretty solid.
So far there's only one paid expansion pack (and one free one), so there's no bundle yet - but that's definitely something I'll do in the future. I'm planning to put GuyEngine on sale for 33% off for the holidays, with a special bundle price for the plugin + the one paid expansion. Should hopefully go live today!
@ awesome thanks so much! Does the holiday sale still have the option to “pick your price”? I’d rather support your work for full price if possible, but still want to buy today if that makes sense.
I have an incredibly basic question as someone who is FINALLY trying to take the jump into music production and has 0 knowledge or background. Is this a standalone program or is it a plugin to an existing DAW (a term I just found out about a couple days ago lol). In any case this looks amazing!
Re the leads, not yet. The drumkit, guitars, and basses all take heavy inspiration from Mega Man X4. The current selection of synth leads are more based on other games - but we could see a Mega Man X4+ inspired expansion in the future. I have my work cut out for me 😅
Thanks for your support! As for the planned expansions, they'll be based more on specific games than on genres of music. That said, there are at least a few games whose music I think fits that pretty well.
Hi! I purchased the full version but it's saying there's no steam keys to get the other discs. Will you refill the keys soon? I was a bit disheartened that I had paid for the full version and I'm only able to use 1/4 of the plugin. I really like it! :)
Hi, thanks for your purchase! This comes up a lot haha, it's not actually a Steam key. Itch just won't let me change the name of it. The key that you used on disc 1 is the same key that you'll use on all the other discs! It works on all 4! Sorry for the confusion, this really needs a long-term solution.
Thank you! I don't have any immediate plans for a soundfont, but it would certainly be doable. Definitely something to think about. Do you think people would buy it?
@ I think there’s still some RPG Maker midis from way back that could be given new life. Granted I’m not familiar with the music making process, but I was curious and fascinated. The old game music just has a certain charm to it.
Demos made by the boss himself, this is absolutely great, love the Castlevania one and Transylvania Intro! I really want to hear more tracks made by the community, we can do absolute banger musics with this VST!! Also, quick question, do you already know what you are going to do for the future extensions? I would personally really enjoy to have some samples that sounds like what we can hear in Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean 2 or Tales of Destiny, that would be my ultimate dream haha. I would also love some Crash Bandicoot-like samples too (it looks like I'm making my shopping list lol). Anyway, keep up the good work, I will follow this very closely :)
Thank you very much! I have plans to do a community showcase in the future! As for future expansions, there is no shortage of content for me to draw inspiration from haha, so it could really be anything. All of the games you mentioned are ones I'd love to release expansions inspired by. Right now I'm finishing up one inspired by Tomba, and then the next one will most likely be based on Parasite Eve. Beyond that, I haven't decided 100% what I'll do. Thanks again for your support, it means a lot!
It's mainly focused on PSX, N64 and Sega Saturn in terms of the general "vibe" of the sounds. I would love to do 16bit stuff! I have a million and one ideas but it can be challenging with limited time haha. There are already so many fantastic soundtracks on the three platforms that I mentioned - all of which I'd love to make reminiscent expansions of. I started work on an SNES inspired GM library but it's on the backburner for the moment while I chip away at some more content for GuyEngine.
Will future expansions cost money or will they be included like updates? Is this essentially a soundfont loader/sampler, or is there also a synth engine behind it? If there is a synth engine is there a way to edit patches? Can the sample libraries from the presets be accessed to use for other purposes?
Great questions! 1. Expansions are a bit of both. Owners of GuyEngine will get a free selection of instruments from every paid expansion as an optional add-on. They'll also receive content updates and additions that are exclusive to the paid version of GuyEngine, but not part of any expansion. So if you have the full version of GuyEngine, your library will steadily grow without ever having to spend another penny - unless you want to. 2. This is a rompler, not a soundfont loader. It's not compatible with soundfonts and doesn't contain any data from any existing soundfonts (except for some samples from soundfonts that I created myself from scratch). There is an engine in there, and it's very simple. Essentially just PCM, LFO, and ADSR with some FX. 3. Individual patches can be edited in the ways mentioned above, LFO, ADSR, FX, etc. I have plans for multitimbrality in the future, but it's quite an undertaking so it is a little ways off. 4. The sample libraries are in a proprietary format and can't be extracted directly, but you are free to sample them and use them for virtually any purpose, with the exception of redistribution sans sufficient transformation. All of the samples contained in GuyEngine and all of its expansions are 100% original. Nothing is ripped from any existing games or anything like that - they were all hand-crafted for this plugin. There is a free version of the plugin, so you can always try it out and see if it feels right for you! I'm also always happy to answer more questions either here, via email, on discord, itch, or ko-fi, patreon. I'm everywhere!
Bought. Great to have a general collection that gets straight to the vibe. Plugging Einhänder OST as an idea for epic pads, drums, and synths in an atmospheric techno/rock/fusion context. For the UI, maybe the knob fill graphics could be thicker or brighter on the reverb and delay sections- they're hard to see on my screen.
Hey thanks for the kind words and for the feedback. I'll look into the the knobs for the next update - gotta prioritize user friendliness. Also einhänder is a classic! Would definitely benefit from having an expansion inspired by that.

@SoundFontGuy yeah I Gan grant you some ideas here.
