I got such a nostalgia hit from this. I played the game a fair bit as a kid and had never experienced anything like it, but my cart was stolen by another kid in school. Crazy how the music stays with you. I have a "Marina's Milkshake Bar" singlet with a big drawing of Marina that I still wear often!
This soundtrack is nuts, thanks for diving into it. Absolutely love the instrumentation and how manic/aggressive the compositions can be while still sounding sweet and fun
Hey thanks for coming by! Yeah this game is another one of those greats overshadowed by first party titles of its time. It's great to know that so many people love it this much.
So much love to those continuing to push this game into the future. One of my favorite soundtracks and games of the N64 era. I will always Stan for this game. So cool to see a soundfont. Marina being added to the last Smash Remix version was another giddy moment for me recently. Mischief Makers has such a slow and gradual, but organic base after all these years. My only wish is that there is a vinyl release of this at some point. I only know of a rare Japanese release on CD. Pipe dream.
I've been really enjoying the outpouring of love for this gem in recent years. We won't likely ever get an official vinyl of this OST, but it sure would be cool.
Mischief Makers will always be the game that nobody played that everybody played. It was one of the most rented N64 games back in the day, problem is, many people can't remember the name.
I'm so glad I'm not alone in this music appreciation of classics that are more obscure such as Bomberman and this game. Thank you for this content, is Amazing
Have you checked out the tropical jungle themed soundfont in Zuma's Revenge? You may think the music is just an MP3 or WAV, but it is actually entirely sequenced and played back in game using the Impulse Tracker format.
Skaven such a menace using that software, the Bejeweled 2 OST is such a magical thing, on the times when PopCap was giving hit after hit with nice games. pd idk if Skaven has his own channel on YT but im sure there is!!
I love how wild and bizarre every aspect of this amazing game is, including the OST. Was actually wondering if it'd be a game you would consider covering and lo and behold! Great breakdown!
Great video. Man, Mischief Makers is great, and its weird music has stuck with me for a long time. Could scarcely make it to the end before putting on Volcanic, another of my favorites you didn't get to cover. Also Little Mac represent!
Treasure wanted to make like 8 different games and put them all in this one, leaving us with a platformer walking simulator RPG fighting game. This game fucks. if you're from the era I'm from its one of those weird games that you never saw in an actual store but you definitely saw it at blockbuster and thought "I gotta give that a try this weekend" only to be met by an experience so unearthly compared to every other game you'd played up to that point that you couldn't figure it out, and you write it off as just bad but it haunts you for literal years and you emulate it as a teenager to find out that actually every part of it is solid gold. you get to fight a boss while riding on a cat, and with decent timing that cat is riding a missile, and if you think this sounds like the 2010s old spice commercials of video games you are correct. (I main Mega Man by the by)
I have never read a more apt description of this game, and put so briefly as well. You've really hit the nail on the head, and I couldn't have said it better. It tracks that your main would be Mega Man, because you really have to have the right kind of mind to pull it off, and you clearly do.
You should do a video on Mystical Ninja starring Goemon for the N64! I'm sure you'll love the music it has in it (and the game is amazing too ofc, also a weird one like mischief^^)
I literally just Found this game in a PawnShop yesterday for 35 Dollars I didn't buy it tho. I have Played and beat it when i was a child tho. and I do love a lot of the tracks. and the game as whole. Great Vid.
Hey SoundFont-Guy, I'm loving these videos, and this one is no exception, being someone who played "Mischief Makers"! Let me ask you something: have you considered doing something similar for the "FM Townes Marty/Panasonic 3DO" Port of "Super Street Fighter II Turbo"? In the meantime, here's my Like and Sub! :)
Hey thanks very much! A have a lot of different things in the pipeline, so it can be challenging to get to everything. "Super Street Fighter II Turbo" does indeed have an excellent soundtrack! I can't make any promises about it, but it's certainly an intriguing idea!
Friendly reminder that IGN gave the game a 6 because of: A.The Music B.The game looked like it belonged on Playstation rather than the N64 There was also a lot of disdain towards 2D-looking games(see that one Symphony Of The Night review), so that didn't help neither. Either way, gaming journalism sucks and I love this game and seeing you dissect the music brings me joy.
MISCHIEF MAKERS IS SO FUUUCKING GOOD IT SAVED MY ENTIRE FAMILY IF MISCHIEF MAKERS HAS 100 FANS IM ONE OF THEM IF MISCHIEF MAKERS HAS 50 FANS IM ONE OF THEM IF MISCHIEF MAKERS HAS 10 FANS IM ONE OF THEM IF MISCHIEF MAKERS HAS 1 FAN THAT GIRL IS ME MISCHIEF MAKERS IS NOT JUST ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER ITS THE BEST GAME EVER OUT THERE AND I WILL SPRED THIS LIKE THE BIBLE!!!!!!!!
You're not going to believe this... I actually did make one! It was a commission and I just never uploaded it. You're not the first person to mention this, so I'm definitely gonna get on that.
I tried this game once or twice but... I need an actual N64 controller to make sense of it... And of a whole bunch more N64 games tbh, many of those don't translate amazingly to a normal modern controller... Also with "1997 gave us the best movie ever" you sure you didn't mean Good Burger? xD
@@Michirin9801 I'm glad you asked that question! The c buttons are for the boost, but you can double tap the d-pad to boost, and it's actually faster than the c button boost. The game teaches you this at some point but it's very easy to miss. The only c button that might actually be useful is c-up, but otherwise you don't need them at all.
Get the soundfont, and start making music! ko-fi.com/soundfontguy
Any Treasure soundtrack is completely amazing.
Wario World’s Greenhorn Forest certainly comes to mind as well. That's another Treasure game.
Absolutely 110%
I heard bits of the soundtrack and as it turns out, the opening and closing credits music actually got turned into full-on pop tracks.
How cool is that!?
One of my favorite N64 games!
Mine too!
It’s like a view of what gaming evolution would be had it not gone 3d.
It’s like a super Super NES.
Same here
you just wait until you hear the alien soldier soundtrack
hanzawa burned down the entire studio with that ost
Went to listen to it and oh my GOD. This man needs a medal!
absolutely! too bad treasure’s been silent for the past year or so…

I would die for that singlet.
Treasure… what’s happened to you guys…? We haven’t heard anything from you all in years…😢
Come home to us, Treasure! Please...
Treasure, make Gradius VI, please!
This soundtrack is nuts, thanks for diving into it. Absolutely love the instrumentation and how manic/aggressive the compositions can be while still sounding sweet and fun

FINALLY MISCHIEF MAKERS SOUNDFONT
LET'S GOOO
Mischief Makers will always be the game that nobody played that everybody played. It was one of the most rented N64 games back in the day, problem is, many people can't remember the name.
It was that game that was kinda like Mega Man except you throw stuff... damn what was it called
@@SoundFontGuy I've heard people call it the shake share girl game
@Tkscz I've called it similar things myself 😂
Thank you for all your work.
Wow!! Thank you so much!! Can't wait to do more! 💪
I'm so glad I'm not alone in this music appreciation of classics that are more obscure such as Bomberman and this game. Thank you for this content, is Amazing
My Main is mega man
Thank you! I really love to show love for these odd games that don't get talked about.
Ohhh I don't hear that one very often!
Daisy! and also Zero Suit Samus and Richter.
This game looks and sounds like a wild ride hahaha
I respect those choices.
It's fun as heck! I recommend it!
the big boss music has been such a big influence to me, well done on this video
thanks very much!

Thank you very much! I have plans to cover some "bigger" games, but my heart is really in these oddballs. I just can't get enough.
I've been making a song with your Bomberman 64 soundfont and having a lot of fun with it. I'm gonna use this one next!
Make sure you tag me when its done!
Great video. Man, Mischief Makers is great, and its weird music has stuck with me for a long time. Could scarcely make it to the end before putting on Volcanic, another of my favorites you didn't get to cover.
Also Little Mac represent!
Another killer of a track! Also respect for Little Mac 💯
Yes! Thank you for this. Mischief Makers has such a unique sound.
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Amazing essay once again, could watch them everyday!
Btw, my mains were Richter and Sephiroth
Thanks man!!
Imagine actually having a Smash main and not playing the entire cast based on mood.
Hey "main" doesn't have to mean "only!"
@@SoundFontGuy I legit don't have a main though. Too scattershot for that.
THROUGH FIRE, JUSTICE IS SERVED!
you're a legend!!
No, you are!

Thank you! I love this game so much I just had to give it a chance to shine.
I like it :) have you ever listened to the Darius Gaiden OST?
I was curious so I went to listen as soon as I read this comment. A very peculiar, but great soundtrack!
