They did use a fill in but I think it was Rick's idea as he wasn't sure about his skills at the time. They would play at the same time in case Rick missed something.

Rick Allen the drummer, lost his left arm in a car accident, when he was only 21 years old. He was close to depression, but his group said that no one would replace him, and they waited for him until he could recover and learn to play again. True loyalty and friendship.

When Rick Allen (the drummer) lost his left arm in the car wreck, he didn't wallow in self pity. He refused to quit, and worked his ass off to come back with the band. That is what makes Rick Allen one of the great heroes of rock. And the rest of the band has respect from everyone for giving him the time to come back. Outstanding band.

yeh Rick Allen got in a car accident while the band took a rest between albums. He lost his arm because o9f the seatbelt, they reattached his arm but there were complications with it becoming infected and had to be removed. They then had a choice whether to look for a new drummer or wait for Rick. Rick learned to play with a drum set he created which is a tweaked electric drum kit. He really was fantastic before the accident and still a marvel after he recovered. The fact they waited for Rick is a true heartwarming story, the were very popular at the time and still decided to wait for his recovery. Good on them!. Love the shirt by the way😛😛🤤!

Back in the 80s most of these bands were about sex drugs and rock n roll. The drummer was drinking and driving when he had a bad accident and the car flipped causing him to loose his arm. Def Leppard was loyal that they stopped recording and let him rehabilitate and eventually came up with a drum set and relearned how to play drums with 2 feet and one arm. They kept him instead of replacing him. True brotherhood right there.

Mia, this is my favorite band of all time, and Def Leppard got me into hard rock/metal music. Their previous album Pyromania was 7 platinum at the time, and they wanted to top that, but tragedy struck. Their drummer Rick Allen lost control of his sports car on New Year’s Eve, when a truck almost hit his car head on. His arm when flying into a field, and lucky a nurse was the first person on the scene. Naturally he was in shock, and was crying out for his mom. I think it was the lady nurse who found his arm, and later the doctors attached it back, but his body rejected it. Anyway, the band waited for him to learn how to play the drums with both feet and one arm, and after 4 years put out Hysteria. Hysteria went 10X platinum with 7 hit songs, and a #1 & #2 song on the American Billboard pop charts. Pour Some Sugar on Me hit #2, while their rock ballad “Love Bites” went #1. Both albums eventually reached Diamond status (10x or more platinum). They’re only the 5th band to do so. Their 7 hit singles tied Michael Jackson’s Thriller as the only albums to accomplish that feat at the time. They were the biggest rock band in their genre in the 80’s. The other 2 in different genres are Metallica & G&R. Bon Jovi is the second biggest in Def Leppard’s genre.

Rick Allen. Nicknamed "thunder" for his unique thunder like sounds when he drums. Lost his arm when his Corvette rolled at a high speed. He taught himself to drum from scratch using a modified set. And on less than a year, he was back recording and touring with the band. The never even entertained the thought of replacing him. The stopped everything until he could return to the band. Then they recorded "hysteria", the album that produced numerous chart topping songs, several reaching numbers 1

A song that does word play on sugar and honey is "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies, (1969). The video to watch is actually a cartoon of the Archies comic strip doing the song. The song is a bit slower but still fun and could be classed as a teeny bopper or bubble gum song, but I'm... Uh... Well, never mind how old I am and I still like the song.

Def Leppard was originally named 'Deaf Leopard'...but the drummer at the time (Tony Kenning) thought it would be cooler misspelled 'Def Leppard'... Rick Allen (drums) was only 15 when he joined Def Leppard, 16 when the band was signed in 1979 (His parents had to co-sign his record contract) Rick Allen was easily the best musician in Def Leppard, but tragedy struck in late 1984 after the band's 3rd album... Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car accident in the UK. He decided that he wanted to play drums again and Def Leppard respected his wishes and refused to replace him... Rick Allen got a custom-made electronic drum kit that enabled him to play w/ 1 arm and 2 feet and he spent months re-learning to play drums... He made his return to playing concerts w/ Def Leppard in 1986 and was nicknamed 'Thunder God' after his comeback... He still plays drums for Def Leppard today.
Def Leppard is still huge today - they spent the last decade playing arenas and stadiums in the US, UK and Europe.
In 2008, Def Leppard performed live w/ a young Taylor Swift on the CMT channel's 'Crossroads' show, playing both her songs and Def Leppard's hits.
Def Leppard was formed in Sheffield, England in the 70's by a group of teen boys... Joe Elliott (vocals) joined the band in 1977 w/ Pete Willis (guitar) and Rick 'Sav' Savage (bass)... Steve Clark (guitar) also joined in '77 and the band recorded a demo before 15 yr old Rick Allen (drums) joined... Although starting as a British hard rock band w/ their debut album 'On through the night' in 1980, Def Leppard were also fans of glam and new wave bands like Sweet... David Bowie ... Blondie... and their songs had a pop feel to them
Def Leppard were mocked and ridiculed in the UK at the time, but America embraced the band when they toured there... MTV was new when they released their 2nd album "High n' dry" in 1981 and the ballad "Bringing on the heartbreak" ... became a huge hit and the album sold platinum... Pete Willis was fired in 1982 due to alcoholism and replaced by Phil Collen (guitar) and their 3rd album 'Pyromania' in 1983 was a huge hit in the USA & Canada, selling 10 million copies and being #2 only to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album... w/ hits like - 'Photograph' ... "Foolin' "... 'Rock of ages' ... 'Too late for love'... Phil Collen recalled that Def Leppard sounded musically closer to pop bands like Duran Duran than heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden.
After Rick Allen's car accident in late 1984, Def Leppard took a while to make a new album as Rick Allen made his way back playing drums w/ 1 arm... Their producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange (who had worked w/ AC/DC and later, with country music superstar Shania Twain, whom he would marry and later divorce) helped craft the album 'Hysteria' in 1987... It finally became a hit in the UK and it was the single 'Pour some sugar on me' in 1988 that boosted sales of 'Hysteria' to 12 million copies (outselling Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album in the US) The album had 7 singles total - 'Women' ... 'Animal'... 'Love bites' ... 'Hysteria'... 'Armageddon it' ...'Rocket'... w/ 'Pour some sugar on me'.
Sadly, another tragedy hit Def Leppard after 'Hysteria'... Steve Clark (guitar) was struggling w/ substance abuse, alcoholism and manic depression... after failed rehab attempts, he was given a 'leave of absence' in 1990 to help him recover... Steve Clark died in early 1991 from a mix of drugs and alcohol.
A devastated Def Leppard recorded their 1992 album 'Adrenalize' (#1 in the US, 3x platinum in sales) w/ guitarist Phil Collen playing all of Steve Clark's guitar parts... Vivian Campbell (guitar) joined Def Leppard in 1992... the band appeared on the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in Wembley stadium in 1992 to honor the late singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury... and released a collection of unreleased songs in 1993 as 'Retro Active'... which sold platinum.
Def Leppard's popularity declined in the 90's but they persisted in making albums - 'Slang' in 1996... 'Euphoria' in 1999... 'X' in 2002... Their popularity came back by 2005 w/ a double CD release of their greatest hits 'Rock of Ages'... and they were back to touring huge venues again after struggling in the 90's.
Guitarist Vivian Campbell was treated for cancer in the 2010's and was replaced temporarily on tour while he recovered...
They have released the albums 'Def Leppard' (self-titled in 2015) and 'Diamond star halos' in 2022... Newer songs include - 'Take what you want' ... "Let's go" ... 'Kick'...

Hey Mia Def Leppard is an amazing band their drummer lost an arm in a car accident & instead of giving up he built his own drumset customized to help him still be able to play hes a legend. My favorite 80s metal band will always be Motley Crüe they did so much raunchy crazy stuff over their time that they are blacklisted from the Hall of Fame some of their best songs are Girls Girls Girls Kickstart my Heart Wild Side i think youll love them i love that motorcycle shirt u got on u look amazing in it if i had a band id call on u to star in music videos for us i hope u have a wonderful Halloween beautiful 🖤🎃❣️😍🥰

Rick Allen's return to drumming after his accident was because the other band members told him point blank that he was Def Leppard's drummer and that he needed to get off his ass and figure out how he was going to compensate because they weren't going to replace him and that he wasn't going to be allowed to quit.
Wish I had friends like that.

Cool story about Def Leppard, I lived in West Germany back in the early 80's as a High Schooler and I partied with Def Leppard in Belgium the night before our High School American football game, we got soo drunk and we all were throwing up during the game at ISB.

Def Leppard really stands out from most other metal bands because of their excellent harmonies and catchy hooks.
Try some of their earlier stuff like "Let It Go", " Bringing on the Heartbreak", "Photograph" or "Rock! Rock! Till You Drop!"
...or more from this album...songs like Women, Rocket, Animal or Armageddon It
You're about to go down a deep rabbit hole with this band lol

I give high praises to the band as a whole. After the accident, they could've replaced Rick Allen, but they stuck with him. They waited until he recovered and learned how to play the drums with his feet. That's loyalty.

Yes Rick Allen lost his arm when he crashed his 1984 Corvette passing an Alpha Romero in a road in Sheffield England. He was not able to play the drums and his band mates refused to replace him and told him that they would wait until he was able to play again otherwise they would just disband the band. He did physical therapy and during that time he designed a completely different drum set that he could play with just one arm and his feet. You were not able to hear any difference when they recorded their new album. He says that he still has to deal with PTSD from the car crash but fortunately his wife deals with her own PTSD and they support each other through these times. And even with just one arm he is one of the best drummers of the rock genre.

I remember that there is a one armed drummer. There are actually quite a few famous ones. But there is ONE. Not sure if it's from this band. But there is one drummer who's said to be the best. Even better than 2 armed drummers. He stands to be above the rest. It was said , "if he had his other arm, there is no telling". It was an early UA-cam video. It was him on a 30 piecae drum set kit 🙏 Killer shi. I could be wrong. He may still be out there. Lurking, waiting. Lol. He drums 🥁 💓.

Rick Allen lost an arm in a car crash. He was forceablly ejected through the sun roof of a car and the seat belt ripped his arm off. He trained himself to use his feet to replace the arm for drumming.

You could’ve easily heard it before; I hear it in Walmart and Lowe’s and Barnes and Noble’s and the mall and various restaurants. It’s very well played.
It also sounds somewhat similar to Queen’s We Will Rock You, which is the sort of sing along song they were going for.

On the afternoon of December 31, 1984, Allen was involved in a car crash with his then-girlfriend, Miriam Barendsen, on the A57 road in the countryside a few miles west of Sheffield.
A car in front of them deliberately slowed for him to catch up, only to speed up as he tried to pass.
This went on for several miles until, in frustration, Rick accelerated to finally pass, at which point he lost control of the left-hand-drive Corvette C4, which hit a dry stone wall and entered a field.
Rick's left arm was entangled in the seat belt and severed, remaining in the car while he was ejected from the car.
(A nurse who just happened to drive by right after the crash redered aid to Rick whom was in a shock.
Rick would have died from blood loss if that nurse hadn't happened to drive by right after the crash).
Doctors initially re-attached his arm, but it was later amputated due to an infection.
Initially Allen felt '"defeated" but, buoyed by "family, friends and hundreds of thousands of letters from all over the planet", he decided to continue playing drums with Def Leppard, and adopted a specially designed drum kit.
(Rick's drum-kit have more pedals than regular drum-kits.
That's how he plays drums now).
The band took a hiatus from onstage performances until August 5, 1986, (Rick Allen's first live performance since losing his left arm) instead doing a small run of public rehearsal shows in Ireland in advance of their 16 August 1986 Monsters of Rock festival performance at Castle Donington.
He has since re-adopted partially acoustic drum kits depending on the setting.

Rick Allen crashed his Stingray Corvette. Rolled it several times and the seat belt was what saved his life, but also ripped his arm off at the shoulder. He then learned how to play the drums again with an electronic set where half of the seat is played with his left foot.

If you want to know how Rick Allen, Def Leppard's drummer, plays with only one arm, pay attention to his feet and the foot pedals. He has a set of foot pedals by his left foot to trigger the sounds of the snare drum, crash cymbals, and toms for each pedal.

you should do a reaction to one of their older songs before Rick lost his arm, and then another song from this album or the album that came after.
Concerts in the 80s were about the music, the friends with you, and the moment being created as every concert was monumental compared to the average day-to-day.
