I've been doing this routine everyday at 1pm, and only after 2 weeks I feel a lot more flexible than I've ever been before. Thanks for the great content!
Same here. Just yesterday we did a stretching session and I was like: "man, I really need to work on my flexibility for kicking" and today I found this.
I saw the video for the first time about 6 months ago. I started kickboxing at that time and could barely kick higher than my knee. Now I can kick up to my neck without any difficulty. So it took me just under 6 months to go from 0 stretch to a 'good' stretch. I am 196 cm tall, 33 years old and have not done any sport for 10 years.

My understanding is that if you are in shape with stretching it is all right to do it every day, but if you are working to make gains then it's better to do it every other day or so to allow recovery. This is similar to weight training where you need recovery time between workouts.
awesome stuff i have recently started mma but have done parkour and mens artistic gymnastics for years so flexibility isnt much of a problem for me but i still like to see your point of view
I remember the first day I entered a taekwondo class. I thought it was all melancholic but when sifu told us to put our legs apart as far as we can. Some was crying and their legs were shaking because the stress doesn't end there. Sifu pushes our back all the way to the ground so our thighs can touch the matting, and the pain between the groin and the thigh is just hell. We did this every single day after school. That was four years. Now I'm on my way to a black belt.
Fantastic man. Love the warm ups. Athletes need quick regular exercises that can consistently improve form. These warm ups are quick, routine and effective. Many thanks
I tried everything to increase my flexibility and nothing worked until I changed the mechanics of my kick. I would always put the same side hand as I was kicking in my opponent's face. When I started using a traditional Thai style kick i could get it up to head level no problem. Just my 2 cents. Hope that helps someone.
Awesome routine, thanks for sharing it! Congrats! I'd just add some hip flexors stretch (psoas, rectus femoris), mainly because they get really shortened on most people (because of sitting too much) and because they are recruited in many kicks.
Shane thx for this man. I actually use your warm-up vid and static stretches vid everyday already. so this was basically more of that haha, but I had wondered if you still used it, an now I see you do. Thx again man.
Wow! This is such a flashback to the first video I ever watched from you. You were in a field showing some stretching techniques. You use to incorporate "good mornings" into your routine!
Hey bro I'am a big fan of your's , I planned to go in amateur boxing next year and I was learned a lot from you I wish someday to be a Pro..Good luck to me ,,and dont stop making others inspire!!🙂🙂
I am horrible when it comes to flexibility I think I might start your routine of setting an alarm everyday and stretch when it goes off.... Thanks for the video
I kick high and I am not that flexible or go that nuts with the stretches, I just warm up, stretch, go, kick, 360's roundhouses, but be sure to warm up and stretch is of course the advice. Do it once a day even when you are not training much.
Hey Shane! How are you? Do you stretch everyday ? My coach told me that wasn't a problem but my nutrition coach told me not to do it. So I decided to do 5 times a week. Should i do it everyday or stick with 5x a week ?
Not to mention that you can generate a lot more force when you can get fuller extension out of your tendons and muscles. It’s good to stretch your joints a bit too, stay limber.
I suffered an injury in my left knee because I started doing stretch exercises 3 months ago. Is good to wear an elastic band in my injured knee?? Greetings from Mexico!
Mr Fun You need to do them before every workout. So while you work out and attempt high kicks you don't pull your hamstrings or any other muscle or injure your self in any other way
As a beginner what could you recommend to help getting my legs to be able to go down into a full split position? Do I just keep practicing get as low as possible each day and hopefully it gets lower over time or is there a leg stretch that can help to get there quicker? I’ve recently started kickboxing so looking for ways to improve my leg movements and perform higher kicks.
Dear Shane Fazen, (Or anyone with a similar problem) I have been doing your stretches from your older video and remember the comprise video between you and Firas and do a bit of both. I used to do Tae Kwon Do and had a lot of mobility with the hips and knees. I have been out of it for a while and am coming back into the Martial Arts with some BJJ and some MMA Boxing and I seem to have lost a lot of my flexibility. The stretching I have been improving on but my knees have this poping sound (non painful) just annoying and I was wondering if you had a similar problem and I should just continue stretching to fix it or if I should try another excercise before doing so (particularly with squats and lunges or in MMA terms my Roundhouse/Frontkick/Teeps). Thanks to Shane or anyone else who replies!
I dont know about a poping sound, but if it's more of a crackle then it's similar to what I have, and so does my Sifu and a classmate, I have discussed it with my doctor and my acupuncturist who is also a Sifu, and they both said it was normal and nothing to worry about. The crackle/pop (without pain) is just there to the stress and overuse of the knee. But it is normal based on the fact that you did Tae Kwon Do, and are a kicker. I trained an animal style of kung fu (Tai Shin Pek Kwar) or Monkey. and that style is also kick centered and extremely brutal on the legs.
Love the exercises, feels great! What is your take on doing forward fold with a straight back instead of letting it curl? I've heard it can be harmful to curl your back?
Shane, since I started stretching, I found that some stretches just don't work for me. For example : When I get into a full split position, It puts a lot of pressure on the side of my left knee. I don't want to hurt myself, so I avoid the stretches that don't feel "right". Do you think I should keep doing a stretch that doesn't feel good and hope that my articulations will get used to it or just avoid it ? In any case, have a nice day !
I just started Kickboxing about a month ago. I just purchased my first pair of boxing gloves and they’re a tad tight and kinda squeaky since they’re so new. I was wondering if it was worth making a video about breaking in new gloves to be more comfortable. Not sure if just using them a lot is best or if there’s a way to weather them quicker without necessarily compromising integrity.
Good video. I'm 32 and started muay thai 5 months ago. I'm struggling with kicks because I'm not flexible at all. At my age, do you think it's possible to become that flexible, or at least flexible enough to improve my kicks.
