- We found this 30 year old slot car track buried in a closet, so we decided to build it over the holidays! We ended up buying and building new chassis only to realize the old cars were MUCH faster, and all they needed was a bit of grease and some new tires!

It pained me a little to not see one of the chargers painted blue 😢
The Plymouth -?
@@TeJaay__ oh is that a roadrunner? I thought it was a charger.
@@alexwingo8094 or it could be a super bird although they’re not that different
@@alexwingo8094 yeah old chargers are decently similar, glad I could inform you a bit thoguh
@@TeJaay__ Could be a Daytona
I really appreciate content about restoring and creating fun things for friends and family, thanks for sharing this.
More videos like this! Great one!
used to love racing slot cars with my brothers and dad! this brought back fond memories :)
same :D
There used to be a place where I live that had a big five to six lane track. Me and my dad would go once or twice a week and one time he actually bought me a car so I didn't have to keep renting one. I was so hyped
This short just brought soo much childhood nostalgia back, I use to spend hours playing with these with my older brother.
very committed family 👍🏎️
Slot cars saved many kids lives on snow and rain days back then. Parents weren't used to have the kids in the house ever. Ah the good old days
That looks so fun!
I custom paint these as part of my painting business. Mostly the tiny lexan bodies but also the hard plastic.
Glad you guys had fun.
Cool man.. your dad is a good man... I would have loved to do this kind of stuff with my father
I’m proud of you for buying a 1969 Charger Daytona
Wish i had a family like that
I remember when I was about 7 my parents got me a set like this it was pure joy
I remember I had a NASCAR version of this. One of the cars caught fire.
They just made it more accurate👍
The car that caught fire was dale Earnhardt’s
Bet is was epic 🔥
I had the Dukes of Hazzard one long time ago. It had a ramp jump too. I fell in love with the General Lee as little child.
✊🏿
Blm
Really wholesome
Great video!
Nothing like slot car racing with your dad, at any age. It’s right up there with having a catch.
I had that track when I was a kid
That is some nostalgia right there
I LOVE THOSE METAL EARTH THINGS AT HOBBY LOBBY!!!
Cameron, slot cars? I love it.❤
OMG I had these in the 90s. What a nostalgia moment.
yea me too. good times
Ohh how fun❤
bro the car you picked was the correct choice the 1969 Dodge Daytona hell yeah
Those were so much fun I miss those😢
The new cars were probably meant for a higher voltage track than the old track.
Nope. The new cars are replicas of late 60s/early 70s cars (tjets) and they are indeed slower. Weaker magnets too, so they're harder to drive even at slower speeds.
no, those were xtractions
t-jets are skinnier now
They are not tjets you don't have a clue
A tip for painting these bodies without getting paint on the windows. Take an x-acto knife and gently cut away where the body is melted through the window and remove it. When the paint dries reinstall the window and use a soldering iron to melt the body back to it. It will allow you to get a good spray around any area behind the windows making the cars look more realistic and polished, if you're interested in that sort of thin that is.
Regardless you're having a good time running slot cars and that's what important!
I think I had a slot car track from the same brand, I wish I had that still, it was my first slot car track out of two and it was so much cooler than the second one
It took up almost the entire living room, and took almost a full minute to complete a lap with multiple crossover pieces, where the cars with swap lanes, and a few places where they would split the lanes into two single lanes, and go different directions, and even a couple pieces where the two lanes are put so much closer together that the cars will collide if they’re next to each other, it was absolutely insane
Holy cow that looks fast.
My childhood is flowing through my mind rn🥲
This brings back so many memories
Nice. I dig the Daytona
Holy crap you just reminded me about my afx track under my parents stairs!
Time to get it out =)
@@mr-meek f n a buddy I'm on it haha
I miss the one we had as kids. It covered half the basement and we used it al winter. They want 1000 bucks for the same thing on amazon.
Nice choice on cars, daytona chargers
Thats awesome!!!
Wow... This exact race track is literally my first memory I remember getting it on my 3rd or 4th birthday
Can still smell the scent these things motors would make.
Man this brings me back to my childhood when me and my brother and sisters would use these tracks and race
I just brought out my afx track, super fiddly with 30 year old track because it rusts, I used sand paper to clean it and made a Watkins glen track, it was fun
I got one of those car sets at my house too, when we got trains with them
This was a classic set. Nice video
From racing channel to family channel 😂
that is f'n awesome. Gen z forever!
There's a blast from the past 😂
I used to have one of these as a kid. It was hella fun racing with my friends back then.
The whole time of your build, I was thinking, "Why not just mod the old bodies?" ...and then you did. 🤣
Bro did not go fast he went like Mach 10 lol 🤣
I came here to angrily comment: "that's not 30 years old, i had a track like that as a kid" and then googled the set and thought "yeah it was made in 1993. That's... not... oh it is 30 years old..."
Aww this was my favorit back in the day
Thats sweet, my grandpa that passed away has one I don't even know how old it is but we don't even get it out of the box lol but these things as a kid were the best
I have good memories of racing these with my old man we used to put a little bit of butter on the corners so we could drift haha
Slot cars are the best toys ever
I think I had this exact thing as a kid. So much fun and the wheels always popped off when going too fast.
The king
I loved them when I was a kid I remember at Toys “R” Us they had a little section where you can buy parts to upgrade your car
Slot cars are the best ❤
my whole childhood was this toy
This was awesome. Not sure what kind of motors are on the new cars but you could try taking some winding off brushes in the motor to make them quicker.
Them daytona bodys lookin sweet
Bro I forgot that I used to have this when I was just a little kid, thanks for reminding me!
I used to have that!. I could never get it to quite work right with my child brain and no experience. I loved it when it did work though. I'm also not surprised that the old cars were much better than the new ones.
I had this exact track when I was a kid. My parents got it at toyrus
I had that exact one and loved it.
Soo0 cool I remember as kids we used to have one of those and we'd race them around without the plastic shells and call them Skeletor Racers
i swear i saw so many videos of this toy toy when i was small in yt now it is rare to find videos of this toy
I have a few slot cars that seem to be in the same scale as these. I found that all the cars with the big vertical shaft motor were indeed much slower than the cars with longitudinal motors, mostly due to weaker magnets that couldn’t hold them down to the track. I still maintain one car tho so I can use those bodies and because they slide easily they’re fun to drift!
I hav one of these I pull out every 2-4 years and play with. Mine has the Corvette race cars and they still work flawlessly as long as you clean the contacts on the bottom of the car.
NOOOO WAYYY its been so long since ive seen these! I had one as a kid that me and my best friend tinkered with it so we could shoot the cars off the track at high speed, we tried to hit my brother when he came into the room lmao
i have two of those boxes of tracks and cars that me and my brother used to play with. they were my dads from many years ago
Nice, I have the same track.
So wholesome
Self assembly slot cars look like a nice project car in kids scale of things
I remember having one when I was 5 and it vas so much fun
I got one of those for Christmas and they are really fun
I loved slot car tracks when I was younger they were THE SHIT BRO
Looks great! Try using primer first before paint next time 👍🏻😊
30 years old, that's the 60's? right ... right .. ohh (feels old)
I love your videos
I have the exact same set in my closet and I never knew how old it was.
Cool
I remember these. My cousin and i both had a set and combined them to make a mega track
Whoa, I had this same exact one as a kid
OMG I HAVE IT LEFT SOMEWHERE IN MY HOUSE MANNN THE MEMORIES
Had one just like this when I was younger. Wanna say late 90s.
Get lifelike track cleaner for cleaning the track it works with model trains to you can find it at hobby shops that have model trains
I remember playing with those when I was little. I also remember that one SpongeBob episode where they were riding the slot cars
My grandparents used to have a set of one of those they go pretty fast but get kinda hot when I'm using them lmao I need to get those again
Wait I have the exact same slot car track I haven't used in like a year but I love it
That was my whole childhood
These are the best
I used to have one of these when I was younger with the tracks and the cars I think that was like early or mid-90s
Right n man , I have the exact same set I'm working on. Cool
Very cool
I professionally race slot cars
I remember I have a friend way back in elementary days, he have this kind of toy and it's hard to play because of the controls but it's cool and big
We have one of these and it was gray ( or grey idk) and orange we got it like 5-9 years back.
I love slot cars I always set them up in my dining room table and my mom gets mad at me for not cleaning them up
Those are so fun
