Purchased from A1 Auto and replaced on my 2006 RAV4. I needed to remove dash molding under steering wheel(2 screws). To get best visualization. Video was a big help. The old one came off easy, the connection on the steering needed a little help 🔨 to slide on. I marked old one before taking off to line up new one. I saved over 400.00 by doing myself. Total 1 hr including test drive.
Thank you for the video, could you please make a video on total electric power steering replacement of rav4 2008?
It's the little things: Would love to have seen final install of the rubber boot
8:48 I just had to replace my steering rack and after doing it I struggled a lot to put the rubber boot back to its position (firewall, anti-dust) and yet I was unable to do so. The previous rack had a lot of mud, i.e. dust came in and mixed with the grease so I think that's have caused damage it to . Now I have a new rack, then took the car to a workshop to do the alignement but the boot isn't doing its job. Were you able to put it back?
Nice 👍

Thanks for the video. Should the TELESCOPING steering wheel be full extended, as in pulled up towards the driver? I'm guessing that allows more play in the shaft for easier removal.
+wtdash Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
I had to do one today at work on a highlander, get paid 1.9 for 30 minutes of work.
Hi what are the symptoms of a bad shaft
can you do a vid on this with a 1998-2005 GS300 or 2001-2005 is300?
+Corrupted Omega We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Do I need to mark anything so the alignment wont be off when I put the new one one??
YES! The knuckle needs to be marked at the join and lock the steering wheel.
Yes and no. I would advise if your a DIY person, but if you do it this kind of stuff often you can do it with out.
What’s the problems for the change this part. Thanks
The steering shaft will make a piping, or “clunking” noise. It can be confused with inner tie rod. You can really verify visually when you get under the dash, first you should see a leak, then theirs free play in the U joint on the shaft. Hope this helps
Not a guaranteed fit. Can’t slide on the top part of the shaft. Teeth are different from oem.
When I rotate the steering I heard noise
If I change this shaft the sound will go
Depends. It could be inner tie rods as well.

Toyota d4d steering shaft
What about the boot that's the main reason I'm here lol
Victor did you ever figure out how to reinstall the boot on the firewall? I can’t get the dang thing on.
What were the symptoms that led you to replace the intermediate shaft?

Trying to determine the issue in my 2012 camry se v6. It feels like a clunk or slight bang in the wheel when turned 1/2 way. If I put in gear...stop....put in n reverse with wheel turned I feel a clunk on transfer of shift....any ideas??? Confused if CV joint...electric steering damper...or bushing somewhere...perhaps steering shaft???
there is nothing more frustrating than watching an awesome how to video with no reason for the repair ..plzz explain why the shaft needed to be replaced
It slogs out. Rattling knocking noise in steering column over rough surfaces. Common in Toyotas of this era.

Why are you replacing the shaft??? Show how it's defective!
How about a reason for replacing the damn thing? Like EVERYONE is asking for in the comments. Are you just replacing parts for the hell of it?

I would imagine it is because the steering makes a 'clonk' sound at low speeds from the column. It is a very very common issue with the Rav4 which requires this shaft to be changed. Occasionally a heavy application of grease or lubricant can help, but if too far gone the shaft needs doing. It is not a particularly expensive job. The video is just showing what it takes to do it I guess
worst fkn job ever!!!! Boot boot boot ffsake
