I once had a job that involved bending over to empty bins full of paper into a large hand truck. I noticed that I was frequently readjusting my pants. While buying cloths I spotted suspenders on sale and gave them a try. Not only were they more comfortable than a belt, they improved my productivity. Less time pulling up my pants gave me more time to do the job! Something so simple can make such a big difference.

I have been using the Perry suspenders (belt clip) for a few years now. When I started, I just wore them at work. At work, I am constantly bending down, stooping and lifting items from floor level and I don't have to keep pulling my pants up while using suspenders. I wear under shirts and wear the suspenders under my top shirt and you can't even tell I am wearing them half the time. I actually started wearing my suspenders while off work when I conceal carry. It helps to hold up my holster and mag pouch a little better then just a belt. Keeps everything where I want it when doing activities. Anything a belt can do, suspenders and a belt can do better.

I still have a pair of Levi's suspenders that my Grandpa used to wear, and yes they're clip suspenders, they're definitely ancient and I've been wearing them for a while now and I've got no complaints. I got myself my own new pair so I didn't have to worry so much about damaging the older pair as much, Duckies clip suspenders, and they work perfectly as well for me.

Hey thanks for the upload, i was just looking into getting a pair of suspenders to use with my belt because my new ccw is on the heavier side and was having a hard time keeping my pants up!
I figured no big deal, suspenders are suspenders. Boy was i confused when i saw all tge different types! Thanks again, you really cleared it up for me.

Great video! I wear suspenders a lot. Not because I'm a big guy but because I wear a concealed firearm all day, everyday. Also I am over 50 so my butt has gone flat like most men. So my pants just won't stay up unless I cinch my belt very tight. Which presses on my spin contributing to back issues. Anyway, adding a 2lb firearm on the hip doesn't help matters in keeping my pants up. I started and still use Clip suspenders, and I clip them to the belt, not the pants. They work very well. The clips do scar the belt, so if you like to wear "pretty" belts then this won't work so well. I have the belt clip style but haven't tried them much. I will tanks to this video. This video also helped me decide not to wear button style suspenders because I wear a belt and I don't want the buttons digging into my hips. Thank you for your review!!🙂

    Jake,
Thanks so much! I've been researching myself for a while. I have a 32" waist, but still have a horrible time with belts! By the end of the day, my hips are soooooo sore from rubbing all day. I even get ingrown hairs from this as well. Bibs give me great relief, but I would like to try suspenders, so I dont have to wear bibs around everywhere. Thanks again! Great review!

Nice summary. I'm a huge fan of Perry suspenders. I've got big gut and keeping my pants up has always been a problem. I got the Perrys originally for concealed carry. I like them so much, I wear them all the time, whether I am carrying or not. They are a lot more comfortable for me as. I don't have to cinch my belt down as tight. Also, the Perry's are very easy to take on and off.

I've come to love the 'clip to your beltloop' side-clip (trucker) suspenders, and have even mod'd Duluth clip-on trucker suspenders to the snap-clips/clasps that clip right on my belt. The original Duluth clips tear up my pants. I like the leather suspenders, but the single point on the back gives me a wedgie - unacceptable. The traditional suspenders that use buttons work well, but the buttons can rip out, especially if you add them later (bachelor buttons). The clasps combined with side-clip suspenders are my current favorite. A combo of leather with a little very strong/stiff elastic might be ideal.

Thanks for the video. I didn’t realize there were so many different types of Suspenders. I have been wearing suspenders since 1993. I did commercial electrical work for 12 years I used a 2 pouch ( L&R) right side ,tools -left side connectors /couplings , wire nuts Ect. Both pouches weighed 70 to 85 pounds depending on the job. I used a padded belt system and that kept working its way down,. I worked with a carpenter many years ago who wore suspenders and got the idea to try them. I got some AWP’s from Lowes, they were clip on.
Now I’m old and even after several back surgeries I still can’t wear a belt.
I have a very heavy duty pair of pants ( close to turnout gear that are a couple sizes too big so I can throw them on over whatever I’m wearing to weld, grind Ect. I keep a pair of clip on suspenders on them and hanging in the shop. I have only 2 problems
    1) they come in clipped ?rear) sometimes when I get I. The truck
    2) if your wearing a jacket or shirt and have to ( see a man about a dog, 💩) then that has to come off.
I never thought about the C/C thing but that brings up the shirt removal issue.
I am also wondering how the batchlor buttons are on truck seats. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate any tips.

Thanks for making this video LumberJake. I'm about your size (6'3" ~285 lbs) and been trying to decide if I should try button-style suspenders. Clip-ons are okay, but they just aren't as reliable as a belt. You bend over to tie a shoelace or pick up something and BAM! A strap comes loose and slaps somebody's head off. You convinced me: I'm gonna try the button-on style.

I have worn x-back Carhartt clip suspenders for over one year now. They have never come unclipped and the teeth have not moved resulting in damage to the waistline fabric. I have been very happy with their performance and they are very comfortable wearing. I do also wear a belt so button suspenders are a no-go for me. I fell & process trees including arboring, build buildings including foundation, climb in & out of heavy equipment, mill lumber, work on vehicles, etc. so they get lots of use. I too started with a clip on pair from Menards years ago but stopped wearing them because they would unclip at times and always slid up the waistband damaging the fabric.

I use the alligator clip suspenders from Walmart in the work pants isle for carpentry projects in my yard. But I use my tool belt over my waistline too. I havent had them pop open but maybe I'm just getting lucky. I use the normal clip x back style on my dress pants since the cloth parts are more flexible and stretch easier. I liked the video!

I found a good selection of the various suspenders at Walmart, including a line made by Dickies of belt-hook style which I have liked except for that it tears up my belts. You can have any color that you want as long as it is black.
I concur that clip-style presents many of the problems mentioned. Button styles avert those problems and most other styles can be converted after obtaining the harness parts.

I am ancient enough that I actually wore little clip on suspenders until I was nine or so. I actually like the look of suspenders but later in life I forgot them because of those useless dang clips. I am wearing suspenders again since I found some that attach to your belt loops rather than using a spring clip. These attach to belt loops directly and do not leg go with a bit of stress on them. I just learned of bachelor buttons from one of your other videos and am going to look for some of those today.
I am retired and no longer need load bearing suspenders but now I am as old as my grandfather was when I last saw him and now , according to my sister, I dress like him, including the hats.
Those trigger snap suspenders that attach to the belt loops are what I am wearing now. Currently the only kind I have because I did not know about bachelor buttons.

Excellent video. I agree with your conclusions. Lately I have been wearing Melnor 2" wide, clip ons. No problems.
I have both fully elasticated, all straps, and partially, where the main straps are non-elastic webbing, and only the lower part of the X, in back, are elasticated.
I find the fully elasticated best for social wear, and the partially elasticated for work. That seems counter-intuitive to me, but, so far, that's my experience. Anyone else have an opinion?

I have some gator clip style and some belt clip style. The gator clips are x back and one of them always comes unclipped in the back. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I have two sets of perry's and I like them but I've gotten shit for them at work. They'll ask if I dont trust my own rigging (because you must wear a belt and it is kinda goofy having to double up on pant accessories) One pair is FR so I can wear them at work (building powerlines.) The other are the ones from the red green show which I get a kick out of wearing. I will have to try the button style, they seem classier to me. Thanks for the video

There is another type of suspender similar to the clip type, which is a plastic small disc clip made of plastic.

Not all clip suspenders slip off. The ONLY type of clip-on suspenders to use are those that are called "Pin Clip" suspenders. There are two styles. One style has a single pin inside of the alligator teeth and a second manufacturer has two pins inside of the alligator teeth. Both types are at Amazon. These types of clips do not come undone.

I'm a big guy and wear heavy pants and carry a lot of stuff in my pockets. I tried the single pin suspenders and the pin just bent from the weight.

Give undergarment suspenders a try. I don't tuck my shirts in. They're clips, airport friendly, and lightweight. They're designed to go under your shirt up against your skin.

First pair I bought are the belt clip style, and while I like them(especially when wearing my holstered revolver) the main reason I wanted suspenders is because I've got to where I hate wearing a belt. They were ten dollars at rural king and can be worn with any pants. I own a few pair of loggers pants that I do my chores, camping, firewood fetching and such in that have the buttons for suspenders so I'm ordering the logger/work suspenders from bailey's. Hoping I like them better than the belt clip ones, lol.

I'v been wearing suspenders for years with my Suits. Now that i have created a hobby for me I need suspenders fro my jeans. I bought the Carrhart Button suspenders in Navy blue. The button will hold you all day long. GREAT VID . Where can i buy that t shirt you're wearing?

There's another way to do it. A suspender with a little snap clip that snaps to the belt loop

I just threaded hook and loop to make a circle for my belt to go into.

The best clip suspenders surprisingly are called NO-BUZZ, they are made for airport/security personnel that have to move through metal detectors all day. The plastic clips never loose their grip, they wont tear your clothing or scratch you. Very durable and long lasting, highly recommend!

I second this. The standard x style are great. Very comfortable, easily hidden under a shirt (though you can't tuck in). Only thing is that they are not that durable. You'll be lucky if you get much more than a year of use if you wear often. The material that makes them comfortable makes them wear out quicker. Still, I keep buying them. Haven't found anything better.

I'm a big guy and carry a lot of stuff in my pockets and the no-buzz suspenders wouldn't stay clipped on. Just not strong enough.

Are used to wear the German clip on suspenders when I was in the mennonite clan they seem to hold up pretty good. Belts were prohibited they looked at them as a fashion statement 😂 thanks for the video I'm in a subscriber 👍
