- A early live version in 1992. John Frusciante purposely completely changes multiple parts of this song to confused/annoy Anthony Kiedis.
John was on drugs and unhappy being in the band at this time and wanted out.
You can still see the skill John has, I actually love this version of the song. He improvises a lot of the song which makes it unique. The way he purposely turned down the volume of guitar, screwed up a few licks is childlike but to me is humorous. But all those added mastery guitar licks makes this version a legend.
Everytime I see “Under The Bridge” and “1992” in the same sentence I know what’s gonna happen

It was such a shame to see John like this, the guy is a musical genius, so glad that this story ended happy unlike a lot of 90s icons :(

It’s crazy how even when John is hopped up on drugs (before now now) and trying to sabotage the performance, he still plays absolutely incredible and better than most. The 2:24 notes is ridiculous and so full of feeling and emotion. Truly wild

Impressão minha ou o John nessa época tava querendo sabotar as apresentações do RHCP, essa já e a segunda que eu vejo que ele toca Under The Bridge de forma maluca haha, eu gostei!
Sim, ele tocava errado de proposito em quase todas as apresentações ao vivo feitas em 1992. Pouco tempo depois no mesmo ano ele saiu da banda. Ele fazia as sabotagens pq não estava contente com o rumo que a banda estava tomando e também não estava sabendo lidar com a fama, além de estar numa PÉSSIMA relação com o Anthony nessa época. Enfim, longa história, mas se quiser realmente saber, tem a historia toda aí pela net. :)
Inclusive nesse mesmo ano tem uma apresentação onde o Anthony durante as danças loucas dele acerta um chute no John de propósito hahahaha a partir daí o John começou a sabotar com ainda mais raiva e vontade hahahahaha

To be honest, this still sounds better than many live concerts from the 1970s, when it was de rigueur to never play the same version twice. One reason I grew up preferring the version on the record.
