Man i tried so hard to get into X even it came out. A busy freshmen college year didn't help it. But never could get a real feel for it. I did like it, it has an excitement to it. I need to try to replay it.
After over twenty years, I finally feel like I have a grasp on Blitzball games. I had to stall, and score one point just to beat the Luca Goers on that first game.
I find it very challenging to go back to very traditional JRPG turned based, weakness exploitation systems. Its critical to the history of FF, but it doesn't seem to scratch my itch any more (they used to tho). I would do a final fantasy 13 battle system instead of a 16 battle system. For that reason i could never see me going to play this game. But damn, if FF isnt always well presented and carry a certain energy that makes me feel something beautiful.
That’s fair! I do think something like the FF13 system is more engaging for sure. And yeah each FF game have a great amount of substance that makes them interesting and satisfying to play through
Not a bad video but ya should have done more research on the story. Tidus doesn’t die in the beginning of the game. He is not dead. Also, Tidus is not from the past. There is no actual time travel in this game, and your misinterpretation of the events would at least require Auron traveling through time. Tidus was born a dream in dream Zanarkand. Originally the fayth dreamed up the original citizens of Zanarkand, but they lived their lives, had children, and generation after generation of Zanarkand citizenry were dreamed by the fayth. Tidus is the product of this process. This is covered in Ultimania. You say “in Tidus’s time …” but Tidus is not from the past. His time is contemporaneous with Yuna’s time. Jetch-Sin just brought Tidus from Dream Zanarkand to Spira. Jetch certainly didn’t kill Tidus, his own son.
@@thechance-lore4711 no worries. FFX’s story is a bit confusing. The game never fully spells out what happened with Tidus in the beginning. I didn’t get a full grasp of what was going on until I decided to dive into the wiki and a bunch of Reddit threads.
Can’t wait to play this again for the 5th time. It’s been so long but I still feel the same way as the first time with the opening cinematic. I literally 💩 my pants when I first saw it. After that moment I couldn’t stop putting it down
I'm replaying this now after about 14 years. It holds up for me, even without the QoL stuff available for 1-9, though I wish there was a feature to toggle off encounters. Story wise is up there with 6. 10 has a well thought out plot, characters and some decent gameplay. I hate to say it because I know they don't have to do turn base to make a great game, but at the same time Square seems to have a lot of trouble making games as iconic as they used to. Anyway... thanks for the content!
Totally agree with the quality of life improvements and the story aspects! And honestly the turn-based opinion as well! And thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed!!
There’s no time line, this is all happening at the same time. Zanarkand that Tidus is from is being summoned and is located near the temple of baaj. The one thousand years part is just because the destruction of the real zanarkand happened back then.
This game has a special place in my heart, it was the first final fantasy that i played and until today is still my favourite. I heard about a remake about ff9 and ff10 and a new game ffX-3, i hope tey do a good job.
Really hope SE revisits this world one day, or give it the FF7 treatment with a full remake. FFX isn’t my favorite in the series, but the atmosphere and vibes are incredible.
I don't think i have ever played a game that introduce game elements necessary for a smooth game progression and experience as good as FFX does it. Everything from the most basic stuff to more advanced things are superbly taught and extremely well paced throughout the game. The sphere grid, Path of Exile took their ability point grid idea from this game a 100% and then expanded on it XD.
chocobo race is my favorite and it has always seen easy to me though I have fully platinumed this game and loved the grind to make my character so over powered that I hit my max damage and one shot everything besides the creatures meant to be extra content meant for end game .
New ffx player here, and after completing the game 100% I can honestly say I would do it again, albeit, differently. That to me is a hallmark of an excellent game.
I Have collected every celestial weapon on ps2 switch and ps5 the only one i have not is Lulu's give me the chocobo race, i enjoy blitzball, butterflies is annoying but rather quick per run. 200 lightning bolts in a row no counter so if you go in early you messed up. Love that unlocking celestial weapons also means aeons get break damage limit.
So i dont think tidus dies. He and all of dream zanarkand are hidden in a small nearly impossible to find area near Baaj temple. Now much like unsent are just manifestations of themselves with strong will controlling pyreflies he is able to traverse between the two much like how Bahamute does. The reason Auron found and was able to go to Zanarkand is that he no longer has a physical body and is all pyreflies. Its different but its also super similar.
It's funny that you struggled so much with the chocobo racing but thought the Kimahri butterfly challenge wasn't bad. I had the opposite experience. The chocobo racing took me a few tries for sure, but that butterfly minigame pissed me off so much that I just gave up. Lulu and Kimahri were the only ultimate weapons (crest + sigils) I didn't bother with in the end.
That’s a good point!! Yeah it’s different with everyone, and I definitely saw that a lot of people struggled with the butterfly mini game more than anything else
The thing with the butterfly section is all of the butterflies have fixed positions even if it looks like they are flying around, so if you find a map of the layout online and have no encounter on it's trivially easy to beat. I've also never had too much trouble with the chocobo section and can usually get through the entire thing in 15-30 minutes or so whenever I play through the game these days. The 200 lightning dodges though? Even knowing all of the crater tricks it is a nightmare every time and takes wayyy too long even if you do it perfectly first try. I really wish they would have toned it down to 100 dodges in the remaster.
I remember the first time ever playing this, I hated fighting the hard battles, not really understanding the leveling up system, well luckily I found tidus's no encounter weapon, and carried that all the way until I somehow finally got to sin, needless to say I could never bet him lol, about 10 years later I tried playing again on the ps4, now I'm way better at this game, this time around I'm going for the dark aeons, good luck to me haha
So far I've taken them all down except for the magus sisters and yojimbo with zanmato, I took down 2 of the sisters, but for some reason auto life didn't work in the 3rd fight and I lost, so I decided to find out what happens fighting sin with zanmato and surprisingly zanmato on both turns lol, easiest fight ever
Thanks to this video, I think I'm going to FINALLY pick this game up and give it a shot. I've never played this game at all. Not because I didn't like it. It just wasn't the RPG game for me at the time. Gonna be playing this for the very first time in 40 years. I know, it took me this long to finally get the chance to play this one. But, I do hope it'll be worth the wait.
@@umadbro4493 Yep, just started playing the game. Just taking my time to explore and grinding my characters. Cause the boss fights are brutal. I will say, it's worth every cent. The music hooked me in

As someone who always wanted to play FFX in 2003 but couldn't because my evangelical parents thought it was from the devil, I can answer for myself: yes! This game is--and was--worth playing in 2024. I just beat the external versions of Sin, and am standing on the staircase inside. This game has been an amazing journey, and while there are some parts of the game that feel dated (no full-rotation cam, graphical discrepencies between certain produced cutscenes , arcade-y sound effects), the core of this game is unbelievable and ages incredibly well. In fact, I prefer a lot of things about this gameplay to modern games for multiple reasons--mainly that this game gives you room to explore without employing every predatory hook available to keep you playing. This game was made for gamers first and profit second. That's a far cry from what most games that AAA studios produce these days.
