In German it's literally "Cataphracts devastate by riding down [enemies]". Again, zero mention of area damage. I always researched Logistica as a kid because I thought the description was cool, but never knew what the tech did.
It's technically not trample or blast. It's arguably splash, but in some RTS games, penetrating ammunition aren't considered splash damage. So maybe it could be argued it doesn't count, but given that even the Organ Gun made an appearance and it's very similar to the scorpion, us Scorpion fans ca rightfully cry.
Fun facts: If a unit doesn't have 100% accuracy, then all units within the blast radius have a chance equal to the accuracy to take damage. That's why the Britons Warwolf technology changes Treb accuracy from 15% to 100%. At one point Throwing Axemen would harm friendly units if they were given a blast attack. In some custom scenarios they would massacre their own infantry units if the player also had Druzhina. There was an update to DE that changed this behavior. The Organ Gun secondary projectile is really interesting. It has 1002 attack. But the attack is against an armor class that no units have, so the damage is calculated using the base armor, which for most units is 1000. But there are some units that appear in scenarios with 0 base armor (Dire Wolves and Ornlu are examples).
@@khankhomrad8855 It's greater than most attacks so that it cancels out bonus damages that don't apply to units. If a unit has +5 against cavalry, and the unit it's attacking doesn't have cavalry armor, then the base armor is used instead. So that's 5 - 1000, so the cavalry part of the attack doesn't contribute to the overall amount of damage dealt.
@@T-West So if Warwolf didn't give 100% accuracy, they would be doing damage to only 15% of the units? This applies to the case of only 1 enemy unit. So their treb war accuracy would have gone down from ~30% to actual 15%.

In a 1v1, it looks like the main way it checks is to see if it has less than thirty pop, you have more than twenty-four pop, and you have three times the pop it does. The actual check is a little more complicated than that due to the limitations of the scripting language, but that's the gist of it. If you don't have more than thirty pop, then it waits until every last villager and monk is killed and it has a pop of one or less and all of it's town centers, docks, monasteries, and markets are destroyed and it has no pop headroom.
It abdicates when the nearby boars grunted too loudly and frequently, or when the townsfolk began too close to my kingdom's Town Center, or when Far too many birds flew over mine kingdom
i think what makes it so cool about the fire tower's effect; is that it too makes sense in a way. a crack of a random piece of wood/fire decided to just spark off and smack someone in the face or what have you; really does make you with the tower was more out there then just being a unique tower in come scenario/campaigns

I'm wondering if the siege ram bonus against trebuches works when they're packed. The comment you did for slavs halberdier vs cavalry trample damage could have and +: 5 damage is very little because the HP of paladins is huge and agaist low HP enemy you kill some of them faster so the atk output of the adversary is lowered faster; and another factor is that if your enemy is a bigger unit there gonna be fewer of them surrounding at the same time and less bonus damage due trample.
I’ve been wondering, is it worth it to build a second lumber camp after the next two rows of trees have been cut down? Is the 100 wood spent worth the villager walk time? It’s just another video idea that I think might be interesting🤷🏽♂️
the main takeaway from this video: onager and siege onager are op as fuck. 70% damage increase with 1 upgrade and almost doubling it with another one? imagine those values with any other unit. with this strengh i think mangonel line could cost 3 times as much as it currently does and still be effective in lategame
Siege onagers +normal or special archers (especially longbow men) + spear units at the back are practically gamebreaking unless you can mass enough bombard cannons to destroy the onagers. Especially for maps like Amazon Tunnel where you cannot flank your enemy.
why does any damage occur on other units at all if the accuracy is 0% for the fire tower? Does the blast damage only occur when it hits the wrong target or is it more like the organ gun?

I play the Vietnamese I'm curious when war elephants are involved let us say versus Boyars & versus Halberdiers. We'll have the former at 11 armour & the latter at 4 armour - is it that the 25% trample gets worked out as 16-11 = 5/4 =1.25 damage trampled onto Boyars, but 16-4 =12/4 = 3 damage trampled onto halberdiers I assume.
Here's a question for you, why is it that a lot of the time, (I play the Conquerors), the AI like giving me most of their resources. Is this a team tactic to get me attacked first, or to force me to advance?
Strange that the Canon tower does not have any splash. I'm pretty sure one would get somekind of a shellshock, if a cannonball landed at one's feet regardless of it came from a tower or a siege cannon.
Yeah, for the expense of bombard towers and the fact that it can be hard for them to actually hit units with the lack of ballistics and slower moving projectiles, it seems like having some splash damage would help make them more useful.
The type 1 trample damage ignoring hill bonuses might be because it might apply to all targets at once and would cause weird issues fighting on slopes? Just thinking as a programmer.

love these vids sooooo much. Can anyone tell me what a generic unit counter is for a mango pike combo? I know 100% mango is one but i'd like to know others
Bombard cannons and micro to snipe the mangonels is a good call, usually back up by your own halbs and pikes, maybe with some archers to make it harder for them to take you on. Not all civs get bombard though. If you're in the open and not in a choke point, some hussars or light cav looped around the long way to reach the mangonels from behind isn't a terrible idea, but you need to have something to distract your opponent's pikes in the front, maybe your own pikes or skirms, and you need to be prepared to either micro your cav out of there if your opponents reacts well, or be prepared to probably lose them if you can close the gap. You can use heavy cav for this, but it's far more expensive and thus more costly if you mess up. If you're in imperial and you get block printing and redemption, you can sometimes manage to convert a few mangonels from distance, especially if you're on the defensive and can place your monks near a castle or TC or tower or similar. If you have very good micro, you can use archers to hit the mangonels from a distance, retreat and hit the pursuing pikes, but again, it's costly if you make a mistake. Cav archers are a little easier, but they take a lot more damage from the pikes if you're not fast enough to get away. Of course, this gets very hard if your opponent makes too many mangonels for you to dodge and shoot effectively. Obviously, there are plenty of civ-specific counters, like mass longbowmen, who, when microed even slightly, demolish this combo, or carefully microed mangudai, but what I usually have most luck with is just pushing forward with castles, since mangonels cannot deal with castle fire, nor can pikes. Not always easy to afford a castle, but it's my most reliable way to put a stop to a pike and mangonel push, more than any other option I've offered.
