0:13 ball guy t-pose Edit(s): I wish the 360 camera made it into the final cut I like the unused jingle it might have been used for the title screen or the resume save
Great video but I'm honestly don't think the 3D camera ever meant to be for the full game. The way the areas were designed feel too skinny to compliment 3D camera rotation. I personally think they had the 3D rotation for developing purposes. I've seen many cases where objects that are never fully seen in the game end up having full textures. That are there are clearly huge empty areas in the places we can't usually view, kinda showing they never planned for the full 3D rotation. That's my take on it. EDIT: Also, the hand feature in camp eventually was used for the feather toy you use from the looks of it. And the cut trainers seem pretty iffy. The characters could just maybe have code for fighting maybe?
I personally think the 3D camera was originally intended simply because the entire around area the character was made and rendered in full detail, which we can see clearly in Hulbury city and Postwick city for example when the camera spins here. The in-house stuff however I do agree probably were meant to stay static since the other side of the house is not rendered. If anything I think they wanted a full 3D camera but didn't know where to place it yet so they made everything around the player and then decided to lock the camera in the end. As for the hand in the camp, in this mode the hand was used for everything including petting your Pokemon and throwing a ball even as seen there. Cut Trainer wise the characters didn't have code for fighting simply, these were literal trainer classes with a model assigned to the trainer classes there. Thus there was some intention to use these at one point before scrapped
@@WarningStrangerDanger True though having a free roam camera even with online wouldn't make the game look choppy with no NPCs and not being as big/alive as the wild area now that I think about it. The areas are was too linear for 3D camera imo for that anyway.
As much as I want DP remakes I'm really curious to know what a Sw/Sh 2 would look like if the devs spent 2 more years actually polishing the game and adding the things they wanted
@@TheObsessiveGamer even if they just put all the dlcs in with like 1 or 2 more towns into the base game, I really wanna see like Ballonlea but fully and controllable camera in motostoke and that big city up top would be nice. @@TheObsessiveGamer another thing that would be subtle but amazing would be seamless transition from the overworld into buildings ik it wouldn't be huge but it would feel so good, even if it was similar to octopath Traveller where u can see the character walk in and stuff rather than just blackscreen
You actually missed a unused song. Its called the Placeholder Track. It is found pretty much everywhere in the beta files. Even though i am absolutely mortified by the track i would still recommend you check it out
Not exactly sure how reliable this is, but... On the internal box art of the NA/PAL versions of the games is a full map of Galar, on that map you can see that the wild area was originally supposed to go further to the left with a little beach and a bridge for the train. But I cannot say whether it's cut content or just poor communication with the art teams.
This is neat. I just hope they up the scale next time around and personally do away with dynamax and the other versions of battle "enhancements" and also take away the hand holding or at least give us a setting like I'm a veteran player I dont want help.
I don't mind the battle enhancements really. Dynamax/Gigantamax being a boss Pokemon still is viable in a competitive setting too I say. At least Gen 8 wasn't so handholdy like Gen 7 which was mind numbing I say
Game Freak: Yeah we had to cut all Mega Evolutions, Z Crystals, and other items along with them Moders who looked through the game files: Are you sure about that?
One very interesting piece of unused content can actually be found in the actual final version of the game. And that is physical move animations for dynamax pokemon. In the final game, no matter what move the pokemon uses, it will use the special move animation, but each dynamax pokemon has an animation both for special and physical moves. Now this was probably locked to special only because of some difficulties with making the physical moves not break something - special moves are always safely cast from the distance and only the projectile needs to make contact, or maybe they didn't want to confuse the players why the animation if different for some moves if the effect is the same. But when they removed these moves from the battles, they did forget to remove them from the pokedex, so you can actually look at the physical dynamax animations in the actual finished game at least for the pokemon that have the gigantamax forms, even though it is unused content. (Shame we never got it because I really like these)
4:28 The pidgey line is not in Pokémon sword and shield. that’s the one Pokémon you missed when you were talking about Pokémon that are not in the final game by a car
Wow! I did not know we had a beta of Pokémon Sword and Shield! During the Gigaleak, everyone was talking about Luigi and Ocarina of Time, understandably, so I did not notice this. That's amazing!
The problem with just being thought of as a debug camera is that it would make sense IF they didn't go ahead and literally render everything around them too which is what you do when you have a 3D camera. For fixed camera you never both creating the full 3D environment around you that you aren't meant to see as its just a massive waste of resources. Combine that with the rotom minimap which is useful for a 3D camera does make an intentional 3D camera sound much more plausible. I do however think the camera is unfinished and thus why they never included it.
@@TheObsessiveGamer Again, the compass only appears when you use the free cam in an area that has a restricted cam, making those areas planned to have a restricted cam from the start. Rendering more than what the player should see is a very common developer trick for when the player accidentally sees a little more then what they're supposed to and incase you want to add scenes that move the camera. The minimap feature was also seen in Sun and Moon and it didn't have a free cam.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 The larger issue is that it perpetuates the widespread idea in media that all you need to make a good female character is make it pink and pop a bow on its head. It's so unimaginative and it implies that masculinity is the default. Also Rotoms are sexless, so it would pretty much mean Game Freak isn't even capable of imagining genderless intelligence, which is pretty old-fashioned
Damn, they really did lie about the reused models, even had them in game in beta. They just cut the Dex because they wanted to make more money from DLCs or other games. Kinda messed up.
Also I want Rotom Dex back. Oh, how much I loved the guy. I hope the future of Rotom helpers (dex, phone etc.) will give us at least an option to talk to it, maybe in the future version of the Camp/Refresh analog
ALSO WHERE IN THE WORLD IS FURRET IN POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD AND WHY DID THEY REMOVE THE FURRET [also they literally removed the pokemon god what the fuck)
Aurorus actually IS in Sword and Shield, but you need the Expansion Pass to encounter it. Alternatively, you can get Aurorus without purchasing the DLC via trades.
This is covering the base game as these were there in the beta but never appeared when the game came out. DLC is separate as that's its own development process
I understand why they couldn't delay sword and shield but i hope that they change the development cycle from 3 to 4 years going forward. They've been using the same dev cycle they used to make gameboy games but they're making fully 3d hd games. I think we need a break from tradition
Fully agree. Full 3D JRPGS require at least 4-5 years nowadays to make a good game and that old mentality of 2 years of dev for 2D Pokemon just won't cut it anymore
Very informative vid. Kinda sad to see how much could have been added if they didn't have such a tight crunch and put a bit more passion into the games. Dlc has made me more optimistic (i absolutely loved crown tundra) but ig we'll have to wait and see
Yeah and I blame the lack of time for them not being able to do what they wanted. The Pokemon Company really needs to realize that it's not 2D Gameboy Pokemon which could be done in 2 years, but a full 3D JRPG that needs 4-5 years at least.
Seeing how much was cut and rushed due to time constraints and being new to all these concepts such as the wild area, I'm really excited for the (amost definitely releasing this year) remake and *especially* gen 9, which as the trend goes, should be a big imrpovement on SwSh, just like Gold and Silver, Black and White and Sun and Moon were on Red and Blue, (arguably) Diamond and Pearl and X and Y.
We'll see if we get Remakes of Gen 4 this year. The Pandemic really makes things uncertain, but I would hope taking what they learned here they can improve upon it
This story I have that I can tell is almost no where on the internet and that’s because someone who’s old Twitter account who posted about the story got banned and so their story was lost, but here’s what they said: Nintendo was trying to keep this a secret, but a fan of pokemon got at a presentation of pokemon gold and silvers trailer a cartridge that said test 3 of 20, when they played it, it was a prototype pocket monsters version of pokemon gold and Nintendo always says that there is no more pocket monsters because they renamed their title to pokemon as it was to their opinion just to simple of a title, it lacked a creative title and the called it pokemon because they thought about their theme song they were creating for the pokemon kids show and thought we can’t say Picket Monsters! Gotta catch em, gotta catch em all pocket monsters! They said that’s a stupid lyric idea, and they thought about however though about his it’s supposed to be a trainer training creatures based game who’s mission in life is to get great pokemon to battle with an become the biggest player with all of them but so the still had cartridge shells the developers at Nintendo hand created even though Nintendo at some point finally got machines to make them, they had them being hand made at first and a few of them were to supposed to be showcased demos and some of them were being talked about at the meeting rooms discussing last minute changes and such, but a fan was given a box that although said pokemon gold on it, had accidentally gotten a cartridge in the box that was written on with a black pen that said Meeting room cartridge, where it was supposed to be talked about to the staff before it was going to be officially out, the worker that gave the customer the cartridge went to the Nintendo headquarters and they eventually found out their meeting prototype cartridge was missing, they thought about where it went and they looked at all the guests in the showcasing rooms names listed and they got in touch with all of them to ask them if they had the cartridge, the guy who was given it came back with the employee and gave it to the worker, the worker said it was a mistake and that he thought the customer who obtained it was one of Nintendo’s own employees by mistake! XDDD When they played it, they said it acted as though nothing appeared on the screen for literally 5 minutes but then it went to the title screen and there was a file already made, it was a single room game though with a entry list that counted up to 300 names for pokemon to include, some of them were just voice samples of pokemon with no sprites, some were actually darker versions of missingno one of the entries showed a piece of the cartridge itself as a image for the pokemon, it was somewhere next to the battery if the cartridge that a entries image showed, one of them was some of the workers desk he was making the cartridge at, and it showed in that entry mainly a black and white style if his cubical, one of them was if 1 if his eyes, there was a half drawn image for Entai, a few of them were the unknowns alphabet, one of them actually had a cut map piece in the entries image, but it wasn’t a cut map piece, it was the room I said the character was loaded in with the whole entry list, and it was a piece of the room the trainer was in that got into the entry. When they closed the entry window, and reopened the entry window, all the names were scrambled and the names even covered the pokemon images, the stats and information dialogue, when they existed the entry again the room was covered in black and white hex values and some coding scripts wording was on the screen. When they tried to walk around, all different music played on almost every tile walked on. They got their new game cartridge mailed to them a week later and Nintendo gave them 500 Yen in an envelope for returning it.
One thing I hope for in future Pokemon games is they give an option for veteran players of the series that ups the difficulty a bit and only gives tips for newly added elements. Also I hope for a return to rivals similar to Blue and Silver, I'm sick of the overtly friendly and less agressive rival that just takes defeat lying down. Hau got on my nerves back in Alola and had no personality apart from being a perpetual and unflinching smile on legs, the group of kids you hung around in Kalos didn't add anything to the game and were completely forgettable (I can't even remember their names, and being forgettable is an even worse sin for a rival than just being annoying), and the rival from LG Eevee and Pikachu is the literal walking embodiment of all the bad perceptions people have of friendly rival characters in modern games. With Blue as a wandering NPC who occasionally guides the player, it only reinforces how poor a substitute the designated rival is by comparison. While not the absolute worst rival, Hop in Galar meanwhile was just all-around bad in terms of personality and competence as a trainer (while Hop may have changed his team up now and then to try for new strategies...c'mon, you have Zacian/Zamazenta on your team and you really choose to lead with a Dubwool instead?) Marnie had charm to her at least, and Bede was a good start in the right direction. If you ask me, the last great rival was N back in Unova. He was a challenge, had a fleshed-out personality, and he was constantly aware of the threat you presented to his goal to the point he ups his pace to make that goal a reality. Then the game climaxes with an epic battle and the revelation that Ghetsis was manipulating, and even in the sequel you can see he's conflicted about his encounters with you. Yeah...looking back on it, gen 5 really was the peak of the series in regards to storytelling.
Agreed. A hard mode that made ups everyones level by 10 would be nice. I do think this game did give us more of a "dickish" rival known as Bede for a bit, though I do think Hop was a step up from the usual friendly trainer as he still tried to be competitive still and wasn't so one dimensional, But Black and White in general are my favourite entries in the series and N truly did take the cake for a really villain rival. I did also find Cheren pretty good too as he was neither nice nor mean but still competitive. All in Gen 5's story telling and characters truly should have been always a basis for how to make a good Pokemon game and hopefully they go back to that one day.

Edit(s):
I wish the 360 camera made it into the final cut
I like the unused jingle it might have been used for the title screen or the resume save
360 camera I bet could have made people more forgiving of the game too
The map on the bottom is from Alola game
I think it was more likely removed for performance reasons. 360° cameras and low/choppy frame rates induce disorientation and motion sickness.
@@WarningStrangerDanger Doubt that since it's in the wild area(s) where online has NPCs spawn in and stuff.
Though the Wild Area is significantly less detailed and much more barren.@@EvyDevy
A more polished sequel with everything in wild area mode and maybe extension into beyond Galar, like Kalos would be nice too.
@@TheObsessiveGamer even if they just put all the dlcs in with like 1 or 2 more towns into the base game, I really wanna see like Ballonlea but fully and controllable camera in motostoke and that big city up top would be nice. Oh my God, fighting Chairman Rose in his shorts would have been hilarious. lol

That's a debug cam. Notice the 3 lines coming off your character when you activate the free cam in a cam restricted area like routes and houses.
@@TheObsessiveGamer
Again, the compass only appears when you use the free cam in an area that has a restricted cam, making those areas planned to have a restricted cam from the start.
Rendering more than what the player should see is a very common developer trick for when the player accidentally sees a little more then what they're supposed to and incase you want to add scenes that move the camera.
The minimap feature was also seen in Sun and Moon and it didn't have a free cam.
The placeholder trees kinda look letter than the final ones

2:00 i am sure that tree was used to clip out of the map in the actual game lol

This is covering the base game as these were there in the beta but never appeared when the game came out. DLC is separate as that's its own development process

This story I have that I can tell is almost no where on the internet and that’s because someone who’s old Twitter account who posted about the story got banned and so their story was lost, but here’s what they said:
Nintendo was trying to keep this a secret, but a fan of pokemon got at a presentation of pokemon gold and silvers trailer a cartridge that said test 3 of 20, when they played it, it was a prototype pocket monsters version of pokemon gold and Nintendo always says that there is no more pocket monsters because they renamed their title to pokemon as it was to their opinion just to simple of a title, it lacked a creative title and the called it pokemon because they thought about their theme song they were creating for the pokemon kids show and thought we can’t say Picket Monsters!
I greatly appreciate this video. I must say though, this is more of a pre-alpha than a beta, but very good nonetheless.
Wow the fact they purposly took away Greninja, Ekans, Arbok, and more is ridiculous when they already had them in the game
I do think this game did give us more of a "dickish" rival known as Bede for a bit, though I do think Hop was a step up from the usual friendly trainer as he still tried to be competitive still and wasn't so one dimensional,
But Black and White in general are my favourite entries in the series and N truly did take the cake for a really villain rival. I did also find Cheren pretty good too as he was neither nice nor mean but still competitive. All in Gen 5's story telling and characters truly should have been always a basis for how to make a good Pokemon game and hopefully they go back to that one day.
@@TheObsessiveGamer Hop at least had a story arc, which is a step up from Hau and the lame Kalos dorks. I can appreciate that at least.
