My brother and I were sitting in the north end zone for this game. The guy in front of us had a brand new Sony Watchmen (A hand sized TV). He was so proud of it and excited that he was able to tune in the game. We were able to watch the ABC replays (this was WAY before HuskerVision). When Keith Jackson made that one handed catch at the end, the dude snapped and launched that Watchman 50 rows, right onto the field. What a loss! GBR!
I'm a young Brazilian looking to play football in college in the US and I love watching games from that time and the 70's, Keith Jackson became my second favorite TE after Gronk
OU fan who grew up about 50 miles from Lincoln and I was there for this game with 3 Husker fan buddies. Saw alot of games in Memorial Stadium but after Keith Jackson caught that pass it was so quiet it was unbelievable. Great day remember it fondly.
I was there and you were exactly right! I remember how quiet it was too, even at the final gun. Weird thing was OU came back to Lincoln the next year. Not sure why 2 years in a row in Lincoln but I enjoyed being at that game too. I remember sitting in the south end zone when #3 for OU came into the game as a tailback in the wishbone and knew something was up. He had a great block for Patrick Collins long TD run. Saw it all in the binoculars.
Broderick Thomas tricked the game off when Keith Jackson ran by him and caught that tipped pass. That play was a heart breaking and unforgettable.Alot of us Husker fans cried about it.🏈😥☝️
When OSU came into the Big 7 in 1957, it messed up the conference scheduling. This was the conference's plan to reconcile that. Why they waited until the late 80s to do it, who knows? Oddly, Nebraska never played twice in a row in Norman. Who knows? OU also played at Iowa State in 86 and 87, and OSU came to Norman both years.
Amazing how bad of a play call that was for the last play! LOL! I know it is a 0.1% chance to score with a hail mary but man! An "I" formation with a tight end up top for the last play! LOL! ONLY THE 80'S! Miss those days! Loved the Sooners!
I was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC., watched this game on base, talked mad trash the whole time. It was awesome to see OU win, everyone got quite when Kieth Jackson made that catch...Good times..
Oh, man, this was a great game! I'm a Husker fan, and there's nothing like NU-OU. Unfortunately, no more. Both the Skers and Sooners deserve blame for that. I always say, things even up. The facemask on the 4th and 1 early in the 94 yd drive cost NU. Same way that the facemask on Crouch before the reverse pass cost OU in 2001.
Watched this while in Fort Irwin California on a field rotation while in the Army. Two D-bag lieutenants that where Husker fans were wolfing shit all through the game. End was sweet.
@PVcat1 this was during the big 8 conference. They played every year for decades up until the big 12. that's when the every other year conference play took place.
@theroncon I understand full well the history of the Big 12 as I am a 1972 Kansas State grad. It seemed OU played at Nebraska 2 years in a row. If that was the case, I was wondering why?
When the Big 7 added Oklahoma State in 1957, it skewed the existing conference schedule. This was part of the conference's plan to reconcile that. What they waited until the late 80s is unknown Interestly, Nebraska had never had to play in Norman in back to back games. OU also played at Iowa State in 86 and 87, and OSU came to Norman both years.

I was there....playing "Boomer Sooner" in the background. Memorable game. Loved seeing Derrick Shepherd again.

Keith Jackson one of the best TE I'VE SEEN.
Nice to see a play from sterling Shepard’s dad in this game.

One of the best games all time....thk u very much
The Big Eight had changed the schedule in 86 and 87 to ensure that the other 6 six schools didn't have to play OU and NU on the road in the same year

Keith Jackson applauding Keith Jackson. Two class acts, same name.

Hollieway made some great runs. Problem is a couple of times he forgot to take the ball.

Loved these rivalries.
I remember very well this game as a kid. OU would have gone to the Orange bowl even with the tie but they went for it. What an amazing game.
Wanted that Natty! Damn you, Miami.
BTW Broderick Thomas was no joke, Jackson did a great job.
Forgot how bad that kickoff was with 0:06 left. Really gave Nebraska a gasp of a chance there.
AWFUL! LOL! Then the "hail mary" play was even worse! TWO GUYS IN THE BACK FIELD FOR A LAST PLAY! Better off kicking a 70 yarder at that point! lol

you don't have to be fan of either school to enjoy this rivalry!!!
As a Nebraska fan, I hurled after this loss.

Jackson had some great hands

Yes, they did play in Lincoln two years in a row, scheduling quirk....it didn't matter....

Nebraska played Colorado at Boulder in 1986 and 1987.

Was bozworth on this Sooner team?

@PVcat1 I missread, and yes they did, I forgot why.

Ric FLAIR thirty for thirty
I like the red shoes the sooners were wearing.
Huskers out coached and played AGAIN!!!!!!
why did OU play at Nebraska 2 years in a row?

He caught with bare hands no gloves
Nebraska didn't win any big games until they got faster on the defense, especially in the secondary.
You mean when they started to recruit gang bangers in the mean streets of L.A.?
God NU SUCKS!!!!!! Was at that Game!
