We’ll go over that and even more everyone. We’re gonna unbox the city of Cleveland!
Cleveland. The mistake by the lake. The CLE. Believeland? I don’t know about that one. But here we are in one of America’s former finest cities. There’s a chance you’re thinking about moving here one day, or maybe just visiting, or you’re just curious about the place.
It’s a city with a big stigma as being run down and crime ridden. We’ll talk about that. But to be the most helpful about Cleveland, and for you to know where you should live here, we’ll gloss over the different parts of town and show you the good suburbs, the shitty side of town, of course downtown, and where the middle class lives. Generally, the west side of Cleveland is the safest part, where there’s a lot of middle class folks with some crime and a some run down areas. Downtown is getting safer and they’re improving it, but it’s still sketch in many areas. The east side is really rundown and full of crime and poverty. And the far outer ring suburbs are where it’s the safest, where all the rich people live.

U are kinda misrepresenting eastern Cleveland. Theres an eastern side of Cleveland and east Cleveland. They're are 2 different cities. East Cleveland is prolly the worst city in the area. The eastern side of Cleveland is not as bad depending on where. I live in the eastern suburb called euclid which you don't seem to even mention. Walking between the stadiums is pretty safe on game day. How much research did you do for this video? I dont know many people who experience all the issues your first guest described? Where does he live??
As far as police forces. I thought every college had a police force? Same with hospitals Cleveland clinic has buildings literally all over the place so they need their own police. The public transit has their own police as it travels the entire county it actually has more jurisdiction then Cleveland police. I will agree that the mayor is trash and is on his way out the door

The homeless population in Cleveland doesn't even compare to LA. Downtown the homeless are sleeping outside of apartment buildings and relieving themselves right there on the sidewalk.
I live in Euclid, as well. It's really not that bad, and neither is a lot of the things this guy says. I swear, he never talks about anything positive.

One, shaker heights doesn’t border East Cleveland it borders Cleveland. 2 who’s this guy you’re interviewing… it’s a great place to move to and it’s very inexpensive however with new development prices are going up. 3 you can definitely walk downtown from the Browns to the Indians. 4 our homeless pop. Has nothing on any other cities. 5 he’s right about the Mayor, shitty!

I've spent 10 years travelling the US for work -- I've seen everything from Laguna Beach to Long Island, but Cleveland was the first place where I really felt home. Moved here 2 years ago and haven't regretted it once. I DO live in a suburb (Lyndhurst) but from my perspective it's awesome! Nice people (many different colors/creeds getting along just fine), lots of parks and hiking, an abundance of entertainment and dining and commerce... This video is BS.

You live in Lyndhurst, not Cleveland itself. Big big difference. I actually live in an East Side ward of Cleveland; it's not s***. Firemen just put out a fire from people behind us doing something in their garage.

Ok...ask this guy to name a university, major hospital, or transit system that does not have its own police force? I went to Kent State University, about 40 minutes south of Cleveland, and we had our own police force. Even Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton, FL, has its own police force. In DC...the Smithsonian has its own police force.

My son and his family live in Shaker Heights, my daughter and her family live on the West Side, close to Lakewood, and they both love living there. I don't think you see any problems in Cleveland that you don't see in any other large American city right now. I don't believe they are experiencing the homelessness you are apt to find in some other places, notably LA.

Cleveland isn’t that bad. I’m born and raised. You’re going to see crime, violence, opioid and drug use and homelessness from all races all over the city. It’s not as bad as the guy is trying to make it seem. Wonder where the corruption, poverty, and drugs stem from?? 😏

My husband and I live in Cleveland in a house we bought for 60K in 2015. We love our neighborhood, proximity to interstates, restaurants, stores, entertainment. The Mayor sucks, but the PEOPLE make the city. I like it here!

@@donavanmiller6604 well, we have a new mayor now and he is doing ok, but he didn't handle the rough winter weather very well.
The mayor at the time was Frank Jackson. He showed promise in the beginning but he got too complacent, had too many cronies, and some of his family members were absolutely disgraceful and embarrassing to his reputation.
I believe it was his grandson or nephew that was a pretty bad delinquent, and unfortunately never got to turn themselves around (if he even wanted to, who knows) and he was killed a couple years ago.
Mayor Jackson actually has lost a few family members in close succession. I don't thin there's any foul play, just people making bad choices and hanging around bad places and people. I do feel bad for the guy. That has to be rough, being an important and busy guy, all that stress, and your family is getting killed/dying left and right.
He should have retired AT LEAST 5 years ago. Maybe 10.

I’ll be honest I went to clevland In august for a wedding and everyone was blown away. About how cool the city was things to do, and the people were super friendly! Cleveland gets a bad rep but it’s a hidden gem 💎

I went to Ohio in 2018. Stayed in Cleveland. There are ABSOLUTELY rough spots, but also plenty of fine areas. I love Philadelphia, but Philly has the same thing. I feel like Cleveland isn’t as bad as people claim, or if it was, it’s improving.

Cities like Cleveland Pittsburgh and Detroit are exactly what Chicago is... Only difference is that Chicago wasn't completely living off the industrial complexity that these other cities were living off of.

Practically every Midwestern major city outside of Columbus Chicago and Indianapolis suffered. Columbus has a huge University that always will keep it above sea level and the Indianapolis 500 is a city in its self.

I went to Cleveland a few months ago. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was worth the trip. And the area around it was nice. Also Port Clinton, Put n Bay and Kelly's Island are nice to hang out in the summer.

Um, Port Clinton, Put in Bay, and Kelley's Island is Sandusky/Toledo. Definitely not Cleveland.
I'm an artist and I've traveled all over the states. Cleveland has the best artists spaces available of any city I've seen. And a deep art support system, like woodworkers, metal workers, other fabricators, foundries, galleries, you name it it's in Cleveland. And did I mention art studio space is cheap? If you are an artist and want to actually do work, consider Cleveland.
I was born here and spent my first 33 years of life there. Now I'm 70. I lived in Euclid (East side) which I know, sadly, has changed. But growing up, it was a terrific place. I took flute lessons at Higbees School of Music, up on the 10th floor of the Terminal Tower. Great memories. God bless you, Cleveland !!

Fun fact Cleveland has the second best orchestras in the country and one of the best theater districts outside of New York. Ohh and some more facts, Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Little Italy an amazing neighborhood with beautiful architecture and wonderful food, Edgewater park with a beautiful view of DT Cleveland, an amazing zoo, the A Christmas story House filming location now a museum, Cleveland Clinic one of the best hospitals for cancer treatment in the country, 3 pro sports teams (Browns getting better), a huge art museum, Severance Hall where the Cleveland orchestra plays, public square, the flats and Ohio city distrects, Sherwin Williams is building a brand new large tower in public square in DT Cleveland as there new HQ, and more.
Cleveland was voted THE best theatre district
Don't forget some of the best museums.
Best orchestra and second best art museum after the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art. Plus the Cleveland Metroparks are fabulous for running, biking, hiking, bird watching and enjoying nature. OTOH, it is another corrupt Democrat run city. The Mayor and Police Chief ordered the police to stand down during the riots on 5/30/2020 that saw at least 150 downtown retail outlets attacked, looted and destroyed. I doubt they will make that mistake again.

@@soulman4292 I was told by sources in the FBI and the Police that the stand-down order was issued. They were told to defend the justice center, which is probably where you were, but nothing else. I watched the riot from a position on W Lakeside Avenue, where I live. I saw people throwing Molotov cocktails into police cars a block from the justice center and there were no police there to stop them. The mob surged up W6th street and spread out from there looting and destroying at least 150 retail premises. I have photographic and video proof. The only two businesses that weren't attacked had owners and employees defending their property with guns. Lesson learned.
Earlier this month I stayed in downtown Cleveland and took the rail system to the westside market for brunch then walked back to the city then up Voinovich Bicentennial Park. I felt safe and was impressed by the development of the city. I got some decent video shots there too.
Late night talk show hosts have put down the city for years, but there are a lot of nice areas.
Something tells me Cleveland is like my home city St. Louis it has a bad rep, but it's not as bad as it's made out to be. People just got to avoid certain areas. The ghettos/hoods.

Was in Cleveland a few years ago when my GF was giving a paper at Kent State. Stayed downtown and had a great time. I practically "lived" at the R&R HoF for 3 days. Loved it! Good luck Cleveland! You rock.
Many, many wonderful things in Cleveland. I'm a native and know there are things here that other cities envy: our orchestra, art museum, Metroparks, lake ( with some nice beaches). Cleveland has an amazing history and many "firsts." Cleveland seems to always have had leadership problems and has never understood that much of a city's strength lies in having strong, livable neighborhoods, not just a glitzy downtown.
NYC doesn't envy CLE lol
NYC has Tribeca, Dumbo, Dyker Heights, Washington Square Park, Central Park, (to name 2), many many restaurants, small stores, LEGO store, Broadway, Museums, the Charging Bull, Hudson Yards, to name just a few of the many attractions there.

Also, to state that a person should avoid the entire east side or the entire city of East Cleveland tells me that you've never talked to anyone from these areas.

Totally worth it not everything is right in downtown but there’s so much like with Lake Erie and Cedar point you could probably spend a week there just going to a bunch of hot spots, like The islands, cedar point, the zoo, go to a sports event if you can they can be complete nuts, and there’s tons of shopping areas to explore!
Go to little Italy, the food is Great.
We would welcome you with open arms. Cleveland is awesome and the people are so kind. If you ever come, make the trip to include a 3rd Friday and make sure you drive a little past Bratenahl and check out North Collinwood and The Waterloo Arts district.
I would not recommend it. Make sure you are packing and wear a bullet proof vest.
As someone who lives here, And moved from Atlanta, its actually pretty safe downtown. I feel a lot safer walking around there than in the touristy areas of Atlanta. Sure things arent perfect but its a pretty nice city

As someone who grew up in Shaker Heights I had an amazing childhood and never felt in danger in any of the neighborhoods, even on the border.
I certainly didn't in the 60's or 70's. We walked everywhere. I also grew up in Shaker Hts. I owned a house near Shaker Square. It was broken into in broad daylight on a week day in 2016. Break-ins and vandalism became the norm in areas that used to be safe.

I lived in Cleveland for 20 years and loved it, this video is mostly inaccurate. I live in San Diego now which, just like every big city, has issues that would scare that guy you interviewed.

Born, raised and colleged in CLE. Lived in NYC for 12 years and Portland OR (presently) for 12 years. These two cities are far safer than Cleveland - just a fact. It's a shame, because the high crime does take a lot away from the city's good points, of which there are lots. I always tell people it's like a tiny version of Chicago, and when I'm in Chicago it's almost like being home, only bigger. They have many things in common, including crime off the hook.
It is most certainly NOT inaccurate. If anything, it was downplayed. I lived there for 40 years and it scared me daily. I have never been to San Diego, so I will take your word for it and avoid it.

I've lived in CLE for a few years, love the town. I lived in Columbus for 10, and never liked it. Simply put, Cleveland is a blue collar town, Columbus is a white collar town. I like that Cleveland is a little rough around the edges, and has a long and diverse history. If you want your city squeaky corporate clean, move to Columbus.
Oh, and if you want opinions from people who actually live here, just read down in the comments. Most everyone loves it here.

I absolutely LOVE Cleveland! I have driven the 5 hours it takes to get there from Syracuse, New York a few times over the years. First off the roads downtown are impeccably smooth and beautiful. Here in NY our roads are a disaster and filled with pot holes and trash from the homeless crisis we have in downtown Syracuse. I went to a Browns vs Giants game a couple seasons ago. The stadium is gorgeous. I have been to the Cleveland Zoo. By far one of the city’s best attributes. It takes literally an entire day to completely go through. So many cool things to do and see there. The Cleveland police department is very nice, friendly and helpful. Plus they have the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame there too!
Are you sure you were driving in Cleveland, Ohio? The roads are horrendous.
Cleveland is a great city. There are rough areas in literally every city in America. Cleveland has really nice areas. Great people. Some of the beat food. And anything you want to do is in Cleveland. If not, it's not a far drive outside of Cleveland to have fun! Your first time in Cleveland or anywhere in Ohio, you will feel like it's your home. It's just a different feel.
East Cleveland is it's own city apart from Cleveland , the city has attempted to annex them...but when East Cleveland started having to use the fire hydrants for drinking water that movement stopped.
East cleveland is run down because of how they vote locally.

Cleveland is one of the fastest shrinking cities in the nation with steady decline since the 1950's. It lost 25,000 residents in the last ten years, and as of last year is number one in poverty, even below Detroit. Not just Cleveland, Cuyahoga county lost 17,000 residents in the last decade.

Grew up in a large suburb east of Cleveland my entire life. Lived in Mayfield (Cuyahoga County), and then Mentor (Lake County) for most of my life and it's where I still live. Been to Cleveland many times since I was a kid, with my folks, with my friends, and on my own. Spent many nights there. Downtown (especially Public Square and Playhouse Square) is super nice and has gotten better over the years. Been to many festivals, concerts, and events there. Lots of cute small businesses and lots of trendy, young people there. Never had a single problem - day or night. Eastern suburbs (and East Cleveland, especially) are super sketchy and places I wouldn't recommend, but overall, it's a great place and I love going there. Lots of fun things to do, everything is walkable, and I always have a great time when I go.
P.S. you can even tell that one dude who was ragging on the city the entire video completely change his tone at 12:50. Cleveland is a place that has a horrible reputation, but for the people who live in it and/or near it, they are great. Great sense of camaraderie, great sense of belonging, great location, lots of awesome things to do, and so much more. If you're thinking about coming to this area, check it out for yourself. Don't let one person's opinion bring you down. It really is a midwestern gem!
Another thing to consider if you’re moving to Cleveland, particularly city proper: downtown Cleveland has been undergoing a MASSIVE revitalization the past 10 or so years. In the next five years, major projects such as the new Sherwin Williams HQ and the lakefront and Tower City/Cuyahoga River developments will be underway with many more to follow. Also going to be getting a lot more foot traffic with the new Amtrak hub (likely at Tower City).

Calling poor people "low lives" is pretty kool. Two things though, 1.) People moving from the city further and further out has been a major factor in making the inner city poorer historically and still hurts the city and it's citizens to this day, and, 2.) Cleveland doesn't need weaksauce doomer mentality like what that main guest had throughout the whole video because it ignores the existing strong will of the people of Cleveland to do their part in improving their communities and themselves, including many "low lives" that I've had the fortune of teaching in schools, working with on urban farms in two of Cleveland's notorious hoods, and just chatting with after realizing they're people just trying to survive like me who aren't that scary. Also (3rd thing. Sorry), objectively, for an unboxing video, this fails to mention anything about food culture, live music culture, metroparks, interesting shops, historical neighborhoods, clubs and organizations, resources, popular annual or seasonal events, ya know, more than just how these 3 neighborhoods have higher crime similar to what every urban center deals with in the history of urban centers.
So people should stay in the city and have their homes broken into, catalytic converters stolen (off multiple cars), dodge bullets, and pray they don't get car jacked taking their kids to shitty schools with a 34% dropout rate??
The Pretenders have a song that starts "I went back to Ohio, but my city was gone." I grew up in Cleveland in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The town puts on a nice facade these days. When I live there, it was BOOMING! Voinovich was mayor and things were good. Steel was the moneymaker. I miss those days. Every time I go back, I get more melancholy for what once was.
I've been all over the world. Greece, Croatia, Middle East, many parts of Asia, and Portugal. I was born in Cleveland and left for military at 18. Lived in Florida, Texas, and Virginia. Finally got out and learned that Ohio is actually the best option to live. Economy, cost of living, weather is good. Some complain about snow but we have good funding, snow hits the ground and doesn't stick long because we clear streets quick. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Best metro parks in the land. It's just hard to find good single women, but I imagine that to be the case everywhere.

The Browns are an excellent football team. They are currently ranked in the top 10 (5 or 6) and were 11-5 last season. One game away from the Super Bowl! Can't be a bad team with that going on!
I live here and seeing the progress being made over the years has been amazing. the flats is an example, the metroparks, the North coast harbor and many more. downtown cleveland is by far one of the cleanest downtown areas because of the DCA. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

If there's 1 city in this country that reminds me of my hometown of Milwaukee, WI it would be Cleveland. Kinda has that same kinda dirty, gritty, blue collar, Great Lakes rust belt feel to it. Both cities in my opinion have been improving despite the pessimists.
Nick, why did you interview Mr. Clean the hater? Long time Cleveland resident here. You'll either love it or hate it here. With the national title in 16' and all of the conventions that have been held here over the last couple of years... Investment into the city, especially the housing sector has gone up which did raise the prices here.. but compared the rest of the nation 250k gets you something competitive if not better than in comparable sized cities and Let's not forget gentrification. The job sector isn't great but with a trade or skill you can make a living. Medically we are in the top three nationally. I don't mean to come off as defensive but I wished that all these miserable folks would stop talking and just leave! Is it grey here 5-6 months out of the year? Yes. Does crime exist like everywhere else? Yes. Does it get cold and snowy? Yes. Will I always live here? Maybe maybe not.. but Cleveland will always be Home.. for better or worse.

I can only imagine a 13 year old high off of brown brown with an AK pointing and screaming hits differently than your run of the mill B&E.. where ever you go or live you have to be aware of your surroundings and environment. Cleveland is worth it because we're not scared of our shadows and bumps in the night. We're cut from a cloth that I wouldn't expect for you to understand. It's all good though.. stay where your at and we will do us.

My first time to Orlando in 1992 the person I rented a car from was an ex Cleveland cop. The place had a really nasty winter I think in 1991 and he had enough.
I used to go the flats when it's was very ghetto , even got drunk with Drew Carey and didn't even know who he was lol. Had to be 98 or so. Had some good times in the flats. Think I liked it when it was rough around the edges vs what they have done recently in the flats area.

Cleveland has definitely improved. The job market has gotten better (still room for improvement), we have some of the best restaurants in the country and there are 3 sports teams downtown (not 2). It is true that there is a lot of crime here and a new Mayor needs to be in place that focuses on improving safety, but every city has its problems. Cleveland is actually a nice place to live.

Cleveland born and raised. I actually agree with the man being interviewed. I took RTA to and from school, work and home. Cleveland is generally not safe, I have been assaulted 3 times since I was 13 years old. Harrassed by pan handlers, had people open my car doors at a red light, the list is endless. I will always love Cleveland, but let's not pretend it isn't disagreeable.
We live in rural Northwestern Ohio but we go to Cleveland at least 4 times a year. We love downtown. We are talking about moving to one of the suburbs in the next couple of years. For reference, I grew up in South Florida. Cleveland got a lot of crap for a lot of years and it’s time for that to go,!

I’m 46 and lived here my whole life. I wish you would have interviewed someone who’s a little more educated and in touch with the city. It’s definitely the kind of city that you don’t want to just explore by yourself. You need a great and knowledgeable local tour guide. Those of us in the know, know the many great spots . I live 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. I love Cleveland. The Zoo is awesome. Playhouse square is cool. Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital are top ranked in the nation. There is so much to do there. I think Cleveland and Ohio in general get a bad rap. I've lived in California, Florida, Alaska, and Pennsylvania. I love Ohio you cant beat the cost of living here. Guess what crime and drugs are everywhere. Like any where else stay out of the bad areas and you'll be fine

I've only been to Cleveland 3 times in my life: in the 70s, the 80s and last year. Every time I've ever been there I have thought about how cool it would be to live there. Last year we had a great meal in this kind of soul food shack deep on the East Side that my nephew read about somewhere on the internet and the food was great and people were very friendly. As someone who grew up on the N. Side of Chicago before gentrification, I see a lot of similar grit and charecter that has been replaced in my old neighborhood by starbucks and people pushing $5000 baby carriages. If you want to do a video on a city, please try to talk to people who live in that actual city not people way out in the burbs who are afraid to go into the city. I've traveled to over 40 countries around the World and Cleveland rates highly in my book.
Shaker Heights does not border East Cleveland. It borders the eastern side of Cleveland. East Cleveland is a suburb, which borders Cleveland Heights. The Shaker school system is still great, and the suburb is still great.
I lived for two years in Cleveland, from 2007 until 2009. I really loved it.
It's completely true what you say about the West side of Clevetown, I lived in Westlake and Olmsted.
My wife and I felt always very safe in Cleveland, even walking at night in downtown.
You lived in Westlake and North Olmsted. Those are safe outer ring suburbs. And you felt safe walking around downtown at night...try walking 30 blocks east or west of downtown at night.
Clevetown isn't one of our nicknames 😂. There's CLE, The Land or even C-Town.

We moved to Cleveland in 1960. I moved away for good in 2010. Both my kids left, too. I'll never move back. I visit family and friends and attend reunions but that drive from Hopkins to the east side (I grew up in Shaker Hts) is enough to remind me why I left.

I would think that the businesses investing money into Cleveland would pressure the city government to clean up the crime. A corrupt mayor still needs to answer to his constituents and all the money that's being invested into the city.
This is the intuitive solution: repair infrastructure, eradicate crime.
But, alas, things are complicated.
One of the best things about suburbs is when they are built new they are: • planned • no worn infrastructure • whole inner city neighborhoods, churches, or synagogues will move en masse to the new developments. A planned city with high standards is the obvious choice.
Cleveland has a shrinking population, dwindling tax base, eroded infrastructure, abandoned homes, unemployment.
To reverse urban blight, the govt provides many grants. Unfortunately, different sectors are controlled by DC, state, county, or city. The only unifying thread that progresses equally is the sewer system.
One solution is neighborhood gentrification. But with close to 50% dropout rate and 51% black population, industries outsourced and there are fewer low skill jobs. Even vocational programs closed.
The city is a living thing. It needs to be rebuilt periodically if politics allow. The democratic city hall has pandered entitlements to the remaining lower classes but have been stingy with tax abatement and infrastructure.
Only spotty neighborhood revitalization has succeeded. I volunteered with the Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation and the city councilman but even he gave up and now works for the Peace Corps in Moldova or some janky European hell hole.
All’s I can say is at least we’re not Detroit.

I live in cleveland and am from both cleveland and East Cleveland and Its not all bad... Yes, we have a lot of crime and shootings, gangs and drugs are rampant but the police have been shutting a lot of that activity down lately... A LOT of our buildings are over 100 years old and we have a lot of history here. We are actually going through a kind of Renaissance, and hopefully It continues... We might be called the mistake by the lake but we are making a resurgence and I have been seeing a LOT of YOUNGER people around my age living here which is great. Security IS a concern as it is in most big cities and for a city as legendary as ours, our legislation just needs to be rewritten...

Cleveland is a great city. There are definitely some sketchy areas on the east side of the City (eastern burbs are rich). Kamms Corners is a good west side neighborhood. I moved to both San Francisco and Seattle and they have worse street people downtown. Raising a family in the Cleveland burbs is a really smart idea. Just have to deal with winter!
In OH Columbus is the smart choice, not Cleveland. Even my more ghetto-friends wouldn’t move to Cleveland.

I recently moved back to Bedford Heights Ohio a small suburb outside of Cleveland. After living in Georgia and New York, I'm not to happy with my choice, but it was necessary at the time. I love that we have a lake so near by and I love the restaurant scene in the flats. The crime rate in Cleveland keeps me away from certain neighborhoods. Shaker is still an amazing place to live and I agree that the West side is the safest. As far as the housing prices, things have definitely changed for the worst. Apparently the market is increasing due to demand but I don't see the value at all.
Now this is a true assessment.
My son moved there from a rural area, he loves it. Things I like about Cleveland are The Schnitzel haus, the metro parks and the beaches. Now the bad, the roads suck and all the beggars hanging around outside of The Jack.
We used to have Geauga Lake, Sea World and Great Malls now 4 million chevy impalas and amazon vans. Slymanns & Mr. Hero's are the best. Btw The Rock Hall needs a stage that extends directly over the lake.
I had a girl come in from out of town. Couldn't wait to get her Mr Hero. She took one bite and said it was ok. I was disgusted lol.

My sister went to college near Cleveland. Coming from NYC, Cleveland felt incredibly boring at first. However, there are some cool sites and activities once you dig a little deeper. I highly recommend checking out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Chagrin Falls is the best suburb in the world, it’s so beautiful and safe, love it there, I might move there, then I realized it’s Ohio and in between Akron and Cleveland

Okay I am going to precept this comment with the fact that I am from Knoxville, TN and currently live in the Atlanta area.
My extended family lives in Northeeast Ohio. So Cleveland is like my second hometown. So I love Cleveland and the surrounding metro. Speaking of that; despite the steadiness of greater Cincinnati, and the growing Colombus area Greater Cleveland is still the largest metro by far in Ohio. This includes all of near metro Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Lorain and Elyria, Painsville, and even Youngstown and Warren. Maybe even all the way down to Mansfield. That is 5 million people. That is still larger than similarly sized metro areas like Phoenix, Seattle, and Denver. About the same size in area. Cleveland and Cuyahoga feels like a BIG CITY! Cleveland has the ammenities of a big city. Great colleges and universities. Great cultural institutions. A decent metro system that gets you to most of the main tourist points in Cleveland by rail. In Cleveland you can swim at the beach in the Summer, and Ski at a ski resort in the Winter. Cleveland and Akron literaly has a National Park right in the middle of the metro
Cleveland Meteoparks!! The zoo, The Aquarium. The nightlife is decent. Tons of bars. A GREAT food and restaurant scene. Its a great city.
It certainly has its problems. But most big cities in America and even around the world has to deal wirh the problems of violent crime, homelesness, property crime, pandhandling. Unfortunately, this is part of Western Democratic Capitalistic societies. Something that needs to be addressed. Are there Blighted, crime invested and depressed areas in Cleveland that needs massive help? YES!! But are there driving vibrant neighborhoods like Tremont, Ohio City, Shaker Square, and Downtown Lakewood?? YES!!!
Greater Cleveland is one of the most ethically diverse metros in the country. The population losses has stablized. And there was a slight uptick in the metro population for the 2020 census.
I was just in Cleveland last weekend visiting family. I saw a viberant Downtown. I took my oldest daughter to MGK's coffie shop in The Flats. It was full and busy. There was a photo shoot goong on there that reminded me of something that would occur here at a shop in ATL. I really enjoyed it.
Cleveland has something going for it as far as potential job growth is concerened. The area is a leader in Healthcare. The Polymer and Nano tech industry is building in the area. And witj the rise of global warming, the Great Lakes are a great resource of fresh water.
So please dont sleep on this city. Its still the King of Ohio. I have spent a lot of time in Cincinnati too. And Cleveland is the bigger more inportant of the two areas. And Colombus? PLEASE! Columbus area is on the come up, but it still has a long way to go.

Lakewood has seen an explosion in crime, and Cleveland has one of the highest crime rates in the country, both violent and property. Since Edgewater was taken over by Metro Parks it’s bigger, cleaner, and the sand is wonderful. The sandy bottom was nice, and the water was clear at the shoreline.

Thank you for this video. I'm a life long Clevelander, and this is the most honest, most transparent, most correct video or explanation I've seen about Cleveland to outsiders, giving both sides to the story with no shame or twisting. It's just an overview of what's happening. Thank you.
While Cleveland does have its problems, I would say most cities do. I've heard, for the past decade, that this county has 4,000 homeless. I haven't seen them lately. At least, not knowingly. And, I've heard stories, including from my own grandfather, about police response not happening at all, even during crimes worse than just a car accident with no injuries. But, some improvement includes Public Square (our town square) was reopened after renovation in 2016, and it's now more park like and business like. Since the filming of this video, Cleveland swore in a new mayor. There will be a new police chief, as well. And, a different city councilman became council president. Cleveland Clinic expanded its properties with new buildings being built on its sites that it already owned for some time. And, the Hollywood film industry chose Cleveland to do more and more films in.
But, "East Cleveland" is a suburb. The neighborhoods you were referring to was on the "east side of Cleveland." But, yes, "The City of East Cleveland" is really bad, as well. While there, you get the feeling you're in Cleveland, when you're really in East Cleveland. But, its high school has a good band, and its school buildings are more updated than they were ten years ago. And, it, along with Cleveland Heights, share a popular 249 acre park (Forest Hills Park) that used to be John D. Rockefeller's home. But, the difference between "East Cleveland" and "the east side of Cleveland" is that "East Cleveland" is a suburb bordering Cleveland. So, when you say "East Cleveland" to someone from the Cleveland area, they think you're referring to the suburb "East Cleveland," and not the city of Cleveland. So, to say that Shaker Heights borders East Cleveland, no, it does not border East Cleveland. It borders Cleveland and Cleveland Heights. Cleveland and Cleveland Heights border East Cleveland.
