That's lovely. The finger and thumb prints are your 'secret marks'. In many years a TV presenter will shriek with delight when they find them and thus will authenticate one of your pieces at auction.

Hi Stewart, Begging, Begging, Begging, Begging, Begging, Begging, Begging, Begging, and one more Begging. That is wonderful Stewart. Watching you create this from, at times, something that looks really messy is a wonder to behold. I have found the Crackle Stencil, as a pack of two, on Amazon. Cheers, Huw

Stewart, I heard you once call a platter "another worthless bowl", I disagree; but if you were to put a lid (maybe domed) it would take on a whole different look - this is what I'm going to try out a rather plan piece of cherry and try to color it using some of the numerous techniques you send our way - thanks for what you do

Hello Stewart, It's weird that just as you were suggesting a childhood link to the artwork, I was reminiscing over the multitude of ink designs and messages that covered the desktops at school in the seventies. They would have started off a pale cream, but over the years, turned to a darker orange-gold as the varnish had aged. One could tell the earliest works as they were in black or blue ink and were partially overwritten by later items that encroached with no respect due to lack of space. Later on, fine tip permanent ink coloured pens emerged and to the gold background and blue and black stains were added the reds and greens, supported by various attemts at carving for added effect and depth. . . . If you can't see even a vague link here, then I may have dug myself into a very deep hole.
Second try. The platter looks great and would make a fine giveaway. For some reason it brings back images from my youth. Regards, Glenn. :-)

Lovely piece, I thought you were going to overdo it with the paint, but no, it added too it. Like how you find alternative ways to do things, while I like the look of Lichtenberg burning, I too think it's dangerous, and with my 10yr old daughter taking more of an interest doing things on the Lathe it's not something I want anyone playing with in my shop.

Fingerprint? DNA signature and hand made verification! 🤪 As to color balance, save some time and get one of your techy students to set it for you!!! Platter looks very “mid-century” in style, meaning you are right in there with the current fashion trends. Even if you have sawdust in your wool. He, he........

My easily boggled mind still has a problem understanding how you do all those strange looking things and end up with a really attractive piece. Is your name really Harry by any chance? It all seems magical.
Just for fun (really) I've been reading through some theoretical physics, including quantum stuff. It occurs to me that there may a way you could continue turning past the thickness of a bit of wood and end up with a substantial object. Think of how much experimenting you could do with so little wood. What savings! It also occurs to me that maybe I should be doing my reading AFTER having my morning coffee...
