  • Woodturning - a friend told me she thought this had a look of amber about it and who am I to disagree! Back to colouring with this one - another wide rimmed beech platter or shallow bowl. Coloured with spirit stains and finished with lacquer then buffed.

Well you already know my thoughts on this one 😁. Fantastic workshop day with you at the weekend thanks Stewart, thanks for your friendly, generous, knowledgeable and inspiring guidance and for an all round brilliant day. I thoroughly recommend anyone inspired by Stewart's creations to book a day workshop with him. After many experiments during the day I even came away with something inspired by the piece in this video and full of ideas for other creations...can't wait to try them.

I got this one recommended on my UA-cam. I like it. It became very interesting with all it had going on. I love plain wood, but you do some really cool and creative things with paint, but still keep some plain wood to offset it and make each pop. Thanks for sharing your creativity with me again Stewart. Thanks for sharing Stewart! I like the black veining through the amber rim. One embellishment you may indulge in is using a shellac applied in a French Polish technique. But, dissolve the shellac flakes with 151 drinking spirits and not denatured alcohol. You should find a 1lb cut should give you a amber tone without detracting from the rim if applied to the bowl and back/ base. The shellac finish applied in 3 or 4 coats is very resilient and durable finish when applied in a French polish technique. Like a violin or guitar. Bonus is doing it on the lathe takes minutes not hours like in applied with a violin or guitar.
    Thanks for the video!

It is beautiful but rather than austere, I would consider the black and yellow as sophisticated. But then black is one of my favorite colors, joined with yellow is one of my favorite combinations. I'd never thought of airbrushing a turning. You've given me new ideas.
