50 Cab, Cellophane, Tubes. Join Eddie Sahakian of Davidoff Of London, as he discusses cigar packaging and the difference it can make to ageing and flavour.
I don't know why you guys don't do more videos often they are so enjoyable, even a weekly tour of the shop and a conversation makes my day I hope you can consider that thanks.
Eddie - Thank You for your wonderful contributions to the cigar community. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos, please keep them coming. The information you provide is priceless, and has helped me immensely. Cheers and best of health to you and your father - Edward.
Cigars are one of the few things that bridge art and science, and I just find it fascinating. If I ever make it to London I know where my first stop will be. Thank you!
Eddie can you make a more detailed video on the meaning of strength within a cigar? And how that correlates to terms like “medium body” “full body” and if the color of the wrapper has anything to do with this “strength”? With your experience, would love to hear your explanation
They already mentioned that the color of the wrapper doesn't indicate 'strength'. I also heard Cuba doesn't like often to use the term 'strength' instead they like to go with 'body'.
Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge in the so much passionate world of cigars Eddie, this is just an incredibly valuable piece of information.
Many thanks amd blessings to Edward and Eddie for being so welcoming to me in their shop. It was the highlight of my trip to London and was beyond my expectations for my first trip to London❤
Eddie, you are a class act. You make me want to be a better man, a classy man. You are such an inspiration to many men. I look so forward to your videos. Keep up these wonderful videos.
Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and experience about cigars, their packaging and the interaction between them. I've been smoking the pipe since I was in my twenties and only rarely have I enjoyed habanos: your masterful videos and the conversation you, your father and Kirby Allison kindly shared here on UA-cam, inspired me to try cigars a bit more regularly. It's a little additional joy I owe to you! Keep this exceptional content coming, please!
Prof. Eddie Sahakian delivers! Excellent video, sir! I grew to like the cellophane wrappers, especially for smaller humidors - it gives it a safe buffer if humidity is not perfect and also nicely protects the foot, for large ring gauges.
Thank you for this lovely video! My brother went to your shop on my behalf when he was visiting the UK, and met your father. He so enjoyed the experience and I now have a picture of them both at the shop, standing on my desk. God bless.
A friend sent me a selection of cigars from store around with a wonderful card with you and Avo. On the back you signed it wishing a happy birthday. Thank you so much for taking the time to make my birthday a special one.
A wonderful lecture at Cigar University from Professor Eddie Sahakian. I was always skeptical of the cellophane. Now I know. I am sure a visit to your shop is on many bucket lists. It is on mine. Cheers from Canada
I have passed your shop many times but I have never dared to visit you because I am an amateur when it comes to cigars, but next time I come to London I will visit your shop. Thanks for all the wonderful videos.
I'm intrigued with cigars, and how it would be to unwind while enjoying one. I have never tried a cigar, and probably never will. But I still enjoy seeing the videos.
Thank you so much. Still new to cigars but I have already benefited from your advice by storing my cigars in a humidor but inside my electric champagne cellar at 11 degrees c Aging bubbles and cigars Yum
Greetings, Very accurate explanation on packaging. Although, I would like to add that cellophanes are not exactly like tubes the cellophane packaging is breathable therefore there will be aging on them but slower compared to naked cigar. Meanwhile the tube's as you said are time capsules. Also would like some content on vintage cigars how they taste now after decade's of aging on them. Best regards
Could you maybe speak about some of the cheaper cigar options someone could get into if they're just starting out on their cigar smoking journey and don't want to break the bank!
This is difficult. Any decent cigar costs money. Affordability is relative. I know people who refuse anything over $40 a cigar. I have been to tobacconists who have rare cigars for over $1000. It depends on your budget. My brother started smoking Cohibas back in the 80s when they much cheaper. Still a good cigar to start with. But there are many others and you can spend a lifetime sampling the various types. As you earn more money you can afford better cigars.
I'm a smoker however not a cigar smoker, unless you count a blunt as a cigar lol, but I have every appreciation for curing a product to develop a more robust taste
This was a revelation. Until now, I have avoided tubed or cellophaned cigars like a poor stepchild, no matter what the maker...it just didn't sit well with me but hearing Eddie say otherwise has given me a new perspective. I will give it a try this weekend as I trust Eddie's knowledge implicitly. Enjoy, my friends.
Yes indeed. Though they will age not near as quickly in tubes, a cigar in a tube (preferably glass for me Hoyo De Monterrey has some beautiful ones) will age with much more personality. Eddie put it well when he said, "it's a cigar time capsule". Aging while also preserving the beauty of origin time & place when originally entubed.
As someone who comes from lesser means throughout life, I find it astonishing that everyone from all walks of life can appreciate the finer things in life.
Sir I really hope you know just how lucky you are. I'm off now to get covered in brick dust & hopefully my cheapo stick will be posted before I get home?
Is it advisable to retain the cigars within the Habano samplers' original packaging? These boxes are reputed to bestow a dominant essence of cedar. The boxes are quite gorgeous too.
I was at a JC Newman cigar event and they mentioned that the cellophane used for cigars is made of sugar and water. The organizer also burnt the cellophane and no smell of plastic in sight. Has this always been the case.
Sincere question: do you produce your videos with a nod to the “cozy” movement? There is this… eh, trend(?) where people view relaxing, soothing cadenced videos to get that “koselig” vibe. Great work, as always 👏👏
I am pleased that my voice is relaxing (apparently not the case according to my wife!) however it is not done on purpose. I will be researching "Koselig" as I have not come across before. Thank you for watching.
I look forward to these videos with Eddie. A man of culture, knowledge, and class.
Wouldn’t give you the time of day. Me neither.
That's exactly want he wants you to percieve
You forgot to mention charm and wisdom!!!!
@@baconatorrodriguez4651 and snobbery!
Try going in to the shop next time you are near, see how you are treated
@@Solid_Jackson Well I already have and I got given the time of day. In my track pants, no less, lol But sucks if he was snobby to you
A morning spent with the Sahakian's is a morning well spent indeed! :)
I don't know why you guys don't do more videos often they are so enjoyable, even a weekly tour of the shop and a conversation makes my day I hope you can consider that thanks.
Because video production takes an inordinate amount of time.

Good to see you my friend
Never knew that about the flat box vs cabinet about ageing.
Looking at my cigar boxes now with a different view. 👀
Fabulous video
Im looking forward for a book written by you which includes all kinds of knowledge about cigars!
Amazing. I'd love to see a video talking about other aspects of the packaging the cigar bands
WOW!! Amazing.
I'm intrigued with cigars, and how it would be to unwind while enjoying one. I have never tried a cigar, and probably never will. But I still enjoy seeing the videos.
Wonderful video, Eddie. Greetings from Alabama! I hope to meet you in person one day and have the honor of you lighting my cigar!
Man I can't resist on those Bolivars from 1996,,,, 😮😮😮 what a lucky man you are..
Thank you ❤

Aging bubbles and cigars
Yum
They also consume very well together!
Good evening Eddie I enjoy your videos and the cigar knowledge say hello to Mr Edward for me. Greetings from Florida.
The way he taps the cigar out of the tube is so smooth

Listening to Eddie borders on hypnotic.
Beautiful

Well said brother, that’s my reason as well why I am a JT Mojave owner
Eddie has an endless knowledge of all things cigar. I love listening to him. Hope to meet him in the shop someday. Thanks for the lesson professor!
What a nice surprise, bringing out a box of Cohiba Lanceros complete with cellophane and the outer cover. That's a piece of cigar history.
Eddie is who i want to be and live like.
Love your video s
A 60s Tubo Churchill was still amazing!

Great content once more! I’d love to have taste of any of them, but they propably cost more than years worth of smokes!
Great video! How much would one of the Cohiba lanceros cost?!
As someone who comes from lesser means throughout life, I find it astonishing that everyone from all walks of life can appreciate the finer things in life.
Ah, as Andy Warhol said...a coca-cola tastes the same to Liz Taylor as it does to the working man!
if you could make a video on mold and "plume" that would be awesome!
I swear I wanna fly from Texas to London just to have a smoke and chat with this man
A true gentleman
Sir I really hope you know just how lucky you are.
I'm off now to get covered in brick dust & hopefully my cheapo stick will be posted before I get home?
Love this guy, pure vlass!
I think I will have to fly to London sooner than I planned.
That cohiba box is very impressive.
Eddie you were cheeky with kirby on the texas lancero hahahahahahahha😂
My jaw dropped at the CoLa’s at the end. I had no idea they came in a 50…wrapped in cello!!? That’s what God smokes I imagine 😂
if the sound was a tad but better, with mics that pick up the handling of the cigar and the box, it would make for great ASMR
love this!
Eddie... tell the people: Cellophane: good. Polypropylene: Bad!!!
There is nothing like the aroma of opening a cabinet
A 50 cab of '99 BCG...oh my!!! I wonder if there's any chance that this man would adopt me!!
Is it advisable to retain the cigars within the Habano samplers' original packaging? These boxes are reputed to bestow a dominant essence of cedar. The boxes are quite gorgeous too.
When aging cigars in the box or a slb do you have to rotate the cigars or do you just leave them alone
I was at a JC Newman cigar event and they mentioned that the cellophane used for cigars is made of sugar and water. The organizer also burnt the cellophane and no smell of plastic in sight. Has this always been the case.
cello is porous
Dude is rockin a MoonSwatch Pluto
so if a box of Trinidad ( for example) has a paper between the top and bottom rows should you remove the paper if you want to speed the aging ?
Yes you could but it would have a very marginal impact.
