    Edward Sahakian is one of the great characters of London......I frequented Daidoff's often about 40 years ago but then for various reasons did not visit again
    until recently (two years ago). Edward was in the shop and recognised me instantly!
    I have only met Eddy a couple of times but the way his charm , erudition and grace come across in his videos with Kirby Allison are making him a legend in his own right.
    Long may the Sahakians ., pere et fils...prosper

    Confession - I love these videos, I love cigars. I smoke them to slow down and appreciate things. For years, I've always watched almost all 'talk based / podcast' style youtube videos on 1.25X, and yet every time I click on one of eddie's - I get about 30 seconds in and then always have to check to see if 1.25X is on.... and it's on alright! You can speed Eddie up 25% and his conversation pace still sounds completely normal. Here is a man who has truly slowed down and appreciated things 😅

    Unfortunately I stopped smoking Cubans because of the quality control. Living in the U.S, the Cuban sticks are insanely high right now and I don't know why, but the last two boxes of 10 (Romeo y Julieta #1 and #2 tubos), I threw away 4 from each box because they were totally non smokable. I used the perfect draw tool, which is a must if you smoke Cubans, and still would not pull. I can't pay $180.00 a box and discard 4 sticks from each box. I bought a box of 25 Perdomo, and all 25 sticks smoked flawlessly. I will say that Partagas Culebras have been perfect each time I bought them. If your new to Cubans, just buy a fiver or single before spending $400.00 on a box of 25 and only smoking 1/2 the box, unless your pockets are deep.

    • @davidofflondon3525
      @davidofflondon3525  Рік тому +2

      The only one was the Romeo Y Julieta Escudo 2007 Limited Edition. Initially it was very poorly balanced and not an enjoyable smoke. However, as with most things, time solved the problem. By 2017 they were smoking just fine :)

    Regarding the aging of the tobacco, which will have more effect on the flavour, the amount of aging before the cigars are rolled or amount of aging afterwards?

    • @davidofflondon3525
      @davidofflondon3525  9 місяців тому

      That is a very insightful question. I believe the majority of the changes due to age take place in the pre-rolling stage (curing, fermentation etc). However post-rolling ageing, especially in Cuban cigars, can dramatically impact the flavour profile for the better.

    • @geoffreyfletcher1318
      @geoffreyfletcher1318 9 місяців тому

      I would be then interested to know if it would ever be possible to age the tobaccos for several decades before rolling. As you state in other videos this may pose a problem when the leaves lose elasticity.

    This is more of an aged cigar question than about editions (great video as always btw!!)- does anyone know why an aged cigar has a more velvety wrapper? It feels smoother, but that could just be me. I was wondering if im imagining this or it's a chemical reaction.

    Funny how Habanos SA will add “extra aging” at a paltry 2yrs and call it “limited edition” and charge a fortune. And even more funny that people will buy them at those nonsensical prices!? The best Fuente’s (Opus X and Don Carlos), are aged as much as a decade before release to the public. Davidoff Royal Release aged 8yrs before release to the public. And the tobacco tastes phenomenal and the cigars perform better and more consistently than the half effort cigars Habanos gouges you on. LOL.

    • @johnnymetallica1039
      @johnnymetallica1039 Рік тому

      The cigars you mention are also pricey. There are far more mediocre “new world” cigars on the market with every Tom, Dick, and Harry starting a brand. It’s a good thing that the nicotine addicts, not the connoisseurs, smoke them up. I always return to a Cuban after a poor “new world”, and I find them worth it if only for that. Cheers
