- Thieves made off with two expensive cars from a Martinez used-car dealership early Tuesday, months after a similar break-in.

You can't be serious that this dealership left keys out like that where somebody could break in and take them. That is just completely ridiculous. Did it ever occur to them to lock these keys up at night or even maybe hide them where they can't be found? The lack of any sort of security measures that businesses display sometimes is staggering.
And this is NOT the first time his business was broken into, and cars were stolen... Just careless and a lack of security... Just shaking my head...

Well, when you leave the keys out in a wall board after you're closed it's kinda like the self check out at Walmart. That's about the stupidest thing I've seen lately. I know where this car lot is right in a main street so the inventory is highly advertised.

It's been this way for many years. That is why the large numbers of car thefts have continued throughout the years.
Insurance will cover the loss, once or twice max, and after that good luck getting coverage or prepare to pay skyhigh premium.
My question is, why didn't they put that in a safe or take it home. You know it happened before and still did not learn anything. Use common sense.....

Take the keys home
Don't store or leave the keys over night there again. Bring the keys home after every shift. If you want to leave the keys there you must have strong dedicated room to store the keys there that can't be kicked down like a strong steel door with steel framing around the door and no windows to the room. That is the only way. Plus put the keys inside big vault safe that is bolted down. If you aren't willing to do that then take the keys home everyday. However don't let the same person take the keys home as they can get robbed and lose everything. Switch the person all the time. Must be a trusted person and even then not all the keys but split it 3 or 4 ways so 3 or 4 people have a 1/3 or 1/4 of the keys never all the keys. Also never have only one person by themself but must have at least 2 or more people when closing. The keys don't go during closing as that is when the thieves expect you to take the keys but like an 20 to 40 minutes before closing. So no keys on site before closing. You vary the time so the criminals don't know the exact time or person who has the keys. Don't bring out a big safe of keys as you will be a big target. Just put all the keys in a suitcase or backpack and make sure it doesn't jingle. Also carry a firearm on you at all times and get a license to carry. IF ppl come in during the last hour when there is no keys you tell they can walk the lot and sit in the car and check out the inside but no starting up cars or test driving unless they come earlier. Hired arm guards it's worth it.
I live close to Compton. These boys cannot even handle these toys. These boys should be riding the bus. What a shit society these politicians have created. Cars are likely in Mexico now getting the fix.
