Sammy Davis Jr. The Ultimate Entertainer. A very complicated man who in my opinion truly marched to his own convictions.

I've loved Sammy since I was a child. I wanted to be an entertainer as a child. He, Cab Callaway, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, these were my idols growing up. I read Sammy's autobiography, "Yes I Can", as a kid. Those days, black entertainers were the REAL SOULJAHS, taking the mistreatment and abuse on the road. I was so hurt, when he got his cancer diagnosis. Was glad to see he got his flowers, while he was alive. He was given a special program, where he was surrounded by the love and respect due. Hat's off to an original. You're loved, respected, and deeply missed. RIP❤

I’m a big fan of Michael Jackson and I always heard him referring to Sammy Davis Jr. And I wasn’t familiar to Sammy. So I’m learning more about him; and wow! he was an amazing and great man. I love his personality. He definitely fought good fights and won great battles, all with grace.
    Thank you for the post

He was MJ before MJ except he was a better actor. He crawled and walked so Michael Jackson could run and take over the world.

What I loved about Sammy was his ability to love white Americans at a time when there was so much uncomfortable tension between black people and white people! I am a black woman and I had a white female friend whom I loved and my love changed her life forever! I was her first black friend. She was raised in a very racist family environment but I accepted her and befriended her, and to make a long story short, she eventually took me to meet her family and she PROUDLY took me to her church! I was the only black person there! I lost touch with her when I moved to another state, but I will never forget her! LOVE IS VERY POWERFUL💯🎯❤️

That's some bull, he was not a sell out he was a entertainer, and where ever he was allowed to do so he did it. I had such a crush when I was a little girl, and if it wasn't for him who knows. Resting Peacefully I'm sure. The best Ever to do it!!!

I agree with you! I don't see Sammy as a sell out. I see Sammy as a man who refused to allow racism to keep him from experiencing life the way that he wanted to experience it. It took courage, humility, and meekness to experience life the way that he did, during that time! Sammy made many white Americans fall in love with him! Like the old saying says......."You get more bees with honey"! Another saying........"Kill them with Kindness"! Whoever can apply these sayings to their lives will have a better life experience here on earth! This doesn't mean sit back and let people mistreat you, it just means always LEAD with love and respect! It's not wise to fight fire with fire, that just makes a bigger fire, and it makes things worse! Either do what you can, on your part, to put the fire out, or walk away from the fire and never look back! Evil people exist in the world, and we cannot change that fact. The key is to NEVER let evil people make you like them.......dark and miserable! Leading with love and respect keeps you in a good head space, and it protects your spirit! I always pray to God to keep my hands clean before Him no matter how others treat me! Nobody can be happy walking around angry and doing hateful things to other people everyday! Only miserable people live this way!

Growing up in Las Vegas, there were occasional oppertunities to speak with Sanmy Davis Jr
The first time that we had about a 10 minute conversation

it was about las Vegas history
We talked again at The Brewery Restaurant 7 months later I said hello Mr Davis. He acknoleged me by my name

He and Elvis both dearly wanted to do the movie “ the Defiant Ones “. But the colonel nixed it. He said Elvis had tears in his eyes as he was very young at 22. When he saw the movie , Sammy thought, the scene where the two, who hated eachother came to like eachother , he and Elvis could have done it more convincingly. When he went to see Elvis on the set of “ King Creole”, he said Elvis performance convinced him, they should have starred in that film and it’d be much more memorable .

I’m a white woman and I get so upset and sad and embarrassed that black people were treated the way they were. They are special human beings created by the same maker as all of us were. I’m so sorry on behalf of white people. I know my soul and I would have 100% felt this way in a different time. I would have spoken up loudly in defense of this disgusting mindset! It’s horrific!!!

❤ You think that's upsetting. I'm not big on western religion however, I study the Bible and philosophy for fun. Do you that black people are the originators, innovators, and creators of Math, science, philosophy, and many other things like religion the concept of afterlife, etcetera.... via The ancient Egyptians. Moreover, Western civilization have been making black people the villains since the Israelites wrote the Bible with Noah's grandson

As a white guy growing up in majority black area, I was treated similar by blacks . Not allowed to eat with them in school and work. When a black person invited me to a party, the scorn both he and I received was horrible. I good very good at basketball but if I beat a black guy,he wanted to fight . I could dance as well as they could, and black women wanted to dance with me , they were scorned and I was humiliated by them. When I finally moved away, I was told I was running away from black people. I said im moving because I no longer feel welcome .
