Great video. This message just appeared in my Sep 2018 F16 as well, (and it's been -6' C for a few days so going through a very cold spell which might have impacted on the battery longevity is suppose), so time to dig out ISTA and see if the battery is the culprit. Bonkers to place a serviceable component behind the headling though, under a seat or dash where it can be accessed seems more logical....thanks BMW 😕
Finally, some is doing the right thing and starts with a diagnosis. The reason for the battery mounted there is very wheel thought, these cars are not made to be repaired in the driveway, and that battery is a part of a safety system.
Hello! Could you please tell me what software should I use to delete this error after replacing battery ? I am beginner in this case so all of suggestions will be helpful
Ideally, it is to use ISTA , and the first thing is to do a diagnosis to be sure that your problem is from the same component because it can easily be from other things
Hello Ovidiu, I have been following you for some time and I want to thank you for your very explicit videos. I armed myself with patience and changed the SOS battery to an X4-G02. Everything went perfectly until the end when I started the car and the SOS warning message continued to appear :). I mention that inside, where the unit is, everything is dry and clean and there are no traces of water. What to do? Does the message need to be reset from somewhere? Thank you in advance.
Hello, I think you did it wrong, you needed to do a diagnosis first , if you have that message in your instruments that doesn't mean that is the battery . So now you need to do a diagnosis and see what is the problem, some SW require a battery replacement done with istaD after physically replacing the battery.
I would like to see you do this job on BMW x5 f15 this is a saloon very straight forward to do. X5 is under headliner, the roof antenna module is worse the shark fin has to be cut of for access to module which is plugged in to the telematics control box which holds the emergency battery, The antenna is faulty when the car can not locate on the navigation so best to replace battery and antenna module at the same time BEWARE DAMAGE IS SOME TIMES ENVITABLE WHEN CUTTING OF SHARK FIN AS THIS IS BONDED ON IN TO A SMALL RESESS ON ROOF OR HAS BEEN OF BEFORE AND TO MUTCH BONDING MATERIAL HAS BEEN USED. This then ends up a nightmare of a job as fin is stuck to the antenna which is screwed to the roof. GOOD LUCK
@@MOvidiu I got a message that emergency automatic call is not available, I searched for this and many people say its because of battery or no network. I tried to push the button and it seems to work, I dont see what the problem is. I was trying to look in the headlining at the end its nothing there under the shark fin.

Hello !! ideally you should take NEXT, it has a more powerful processor and it knows the new communication protocols. but normally it had to work on that car from 2015 because it's not very new, maybe you have a faulty cable or pins in the obd plug or an old version of ISTA
Hello, depending on the car equipment as i said in this video this car is equipped with professional navigation the module is in the roof , if the car have business navigation is in the trunk
@MOvidiu Hi, is it possible to delete TCB errors like bimmercode or similar through some application or only through BMW original diagnostics? After replacing the battery, the error still remained, so I need to clear it.
The error cleared itself after two days, probably while the battery was charging, does this mean that the car is doing diagnostics by itself when it is turned on?
Respect, I have an X2 with SOS problem, I am the first owner so I know that it has not been hit and there is no water problem. I bought a battery and I'm about to replace it. I can't find a video for it but it's similar for everyone. I wonder if I should disconnect the battery before replacing the TCU battery? And if that's the problem, do I have to clear the error or will replacing the battery be enough?

@@MOvidiu Just checked and have the same codes as you B7F341 & B7F343. Thanks for the video.
Thanks can you tell me if at bmw x5 40D 2012 with panoramic where is the battery SOS location? Please thanks verry much.
GOOD LUCK
Great video. Can you tell me where would this unit be located in a 2018 x3 with panoramic roof. I dont think its in the head lining.
Thanks.
G01 same place. but who told you that you need a battery? first you need to do a diagnosis!
@@MOvidiu I got a message that emergency automatic call is not available, I searched for this and many people say its because of battery or no network. I tried to push the button and it seems to work, I dont see what the problem is. I was trying to look in the headlining at the end its nothing there under the shark fin.
This is the biggest BMW b.s. I have yet to encounter. Why my wife loves BMW I have no idea. Great video, but she can drive the damn thing with the error message from now on. Thanks for the great video - it convinced me not to do this b.s. repair!
Great video as usual!
On these newer models, can i still use the old ICOM v1 or should i upgrade to ICOM Next?
Last week i tried to diagnose a 2015 F20, but it did not want me to see the ecu's.
Thanks 👍
Hello !! ideally you should take NEXT, it has a more powerful processor and it knows the new communication protocols. but normally it had to work on that car from 2015 because it's not very new, maybe you have a faulty cable or pins in the obd plug or an old version of ISTA
@@MOvidiu Just tried again. No luck. Thanks anyway :)
Hello, great video. But I wonder: do you know where is the battery in a 2018 F36? Trunk or roof? Thanks!!
Hello, depending on the car equipment as i said in this video this car is equipped with professional navigation the module is in the roof , if the car have business navigation is in the trunk
Hello , thanks for all ! it's the same on G11 ?
Hello, yes it is similar , check this out : m.ua-cam.com/video/ZmDkdLK22a4/v-deo.html
Great presentation!! Thank you for sharing this. Awesome job!
Glad you enjoy it!
Where can I buy one of these batteries for my F36?
Good and clean work
Glad you enjoy it!
Depending on the car equipment, can be in the trunk in the roof or in the dashboard ( TCB ,ATM, TPL ) . but like most of the people you are doing it wrong, First you need to do a diagnosis!!!
So much work for a battery, also need to be done every 3 years.
This is the technology...
It seems to be such inconvenient placement for something that requires this frequency for replacement. BMW should really do better!
@@bernicenichols-parmanand2912 This is a copy and paste reply from other comment : It is hard to access because it's a part from a safety system, the BMW engineers are not stupid they have created that car for a pencil drawing, first these cars ar not made to be repaired on the side of the road , second , that system can trace your car in case of stolen ( if you have that service paid) or better the emergency services can locate you're car when you will fall from a cliff and nobody will saw you 😉 . I don't side with them (BMW) . I try to make you to understand how these cars are working and how they are thought . Think about it. You will need to be more outraged on apple , for example in they case you are completely left outside of your products you can't change the battery of an iPhone widout special tools 😉 I don't even want to mention about the display replacement 😜
@@MOvidiu It's hard to access because they want you to take it to the dealer and charge you $200 an hour in labor, not as a theft deterrent. There are more easily accessible places to hide the battery without ripping apart the interior to get to it.
E la fel si la x5?😢
how different is this to a 6 series gt (G32) when it comes to the head liner and clips. BMW did the change on a friends and they left the head liner hanging a bit. Can't trust the main dealers to do it right.
The dealer said I have to register the new battery once it’s replaced…is that true?
Hello, yes, some modules require registering the replacement .
@@MOvidiuI guess my 2019 X3 M40i is one of them 🤦🏽♀️…but I think my shark fin is under recall!
the battery on bmw 320D X drive (2017) is at same place? Thanks
I wasted half a morning following this only to discover the module does not live in the headliner as shown here. I have yet to find its location.
What a wind up…
Gracias por tu vídeo y explicación!!!! 👏👏
Hey, nice video.
Can share link where to get a battery for 530d G31 tourer..?
Hey! From realoem.com you get the part nr for your car and with that yo go to any dealer or car part store and order the part !
@@MOvidiu much appreciated for the support and swift reply.
@@MOvidiu I've had it replaced at BWM.
Thank you
This warning light has just appeared on my dashboard, though it comes and goes. Everything else functions normally. Unless you think you might use the SOS, can it be left unfixed or are their other potential problems in not getting it sorted.
Hello, if you leave it like that will annoy you every time you'll start the car, but why not to repair it ? you have invested a quite big amount of money to buy that car and not you are stumbling at repairing it 😀 , is not so hard to repair it as you can see 😉
Clean work 👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for the video!!!
Link for battery, please?
Hi Ovidiu,
I am in Vietnam.
The BMW X5 E70 2006 show the “SOS call system malfuntion”. But the Sound and Bluetooth still fine. cheking that the icon TCB (as your show at the minute 14:36) is red color .
I have deleted it but it appears again after 1-2 days when I use the car.
What s wrong? And how can I do to clear it forever?
Tks bro!! And waiting for the reply!
hello! your e70 is totally different than this car, they are different generations . what you see here doesn't have nothing in common with your e70 . you need to do a proper diagnose not only erasing the errors!
@@MOvidiu i shall ask someone to code and erase it
I replaced the battery but the alarm still came on. Maybe I need to clear out the code or reset the ECU, if that’s a yes, any suggestion please?
You did it wrong , first you needed to do a diagnostic and after that if the problem was caused by the battery you will replace-it !
Is there a fuse for the telematics SOS, if yes would removing it help rid the message?
Hello ! Yes and No !
Hello, do you know if an x4 m40d is the same as the x6 to replace??
Thanks in advance
Hello . depending on the car equipment ! if have professional navigation yes
@@MOvidiu thanks for the quick reply 👍
Success!
I change it the battery and still the sign coming again dose need to diagnostics ???
you started with the wrong step! first you do a diagnostic and after that you replace!
Mersi Ovidiu!
Thanks where are you live? I Went to change new betery
Thanks for the information 👍
What is the error code reader you use here?
Hello! Is not an error reader. It is the BMW diagnostic equipment !
I have this error on my dashboard and tried to call sos and it worked..
So I wonder how can I just remove or clear it from the dashboard???
Can u give us a name or model number of the battery please
Great video 👌🏼

I have this warning for the 3th time now on my F30 320d in three years. Every summer it is appearing. The first and second time were under warranty. Is there a permanent solution for this issue? Please help.
Hello, yes there is, first you need to find someone who knows too repair BMW'S in your area , and after a complete diagnosis of the system him will know what is the problem and the solution!
Hello,
Do you know if on a f15 X5, 2018.04, the battery location is in the same place ?

@@MOvidiu, it s M package, exactly like in your video, with ventilated seats, and panoramic sunroof.

@@gaskanu12 Depending on the car equipment, if have professional navigation .. telematic...no the colour of the car or exterior package:)) , you need to do a complete diagnosis and in diagnostic plan you can see exactly where it is and if the battery needs to be replaced, it can be in the roof or inside the trunk....
dove si trova la batteria di errore di emergenza sos della BMW 218i grazie
Does anyone know if this repair would be covered under the factory warranty? Mine just stared to act up and I have 2months of warrant left.
Hi Unfortunately not I claimed having had the same issue, I tried to claim on my extended warranty my car is only 4 years old. I was told that batteries are not covered in the Warranty so will need to pay just over 500 Pounds to have the battery replaced. Many thanks to the video for letting me know what is involved I can see doing DIY could result in problems and the question is will the message reset. So I guess I will need to pay for this repair and ask the question why changing the battery is such a mission could the unit have been better placed by BMW taking into consideration the battery didn't last very long and do we not get rechargeable batteries now days?
Trying it on a x1 for some reason the way the car is shaped the body panels are directly where the battery port opens🙁
Half of the interior disassembled to change a little battery. German engineering at its finest. 😬
I don't want to make you like bmws, but if you work with them and understand them you will notice that many things that seem complicated and meaningless to a stranger will seem logical to you (and that module is put there not to be accessed very easily because through that module you can find the car and it can be used as an anti-theft / recovery system)
@@MOvidiu I totally agree with you. Don’t get confused by my randomly chosen nickname, I do like them very much. Drove a lot of them too with all kind of engines. E46, E90, E92, E60, E61, E70, F15, F10, F11, F02, F31, F25, G30 and I probably forgot to mention a few older ones. BMW builds exquisite daily drivers, as do other German manufacturers. To be honest I don’t have a favourite brand. Would probably go with the G31 540i, Merc W223 and 991 to fill my lottery garage. As long as it’s German. Please keep sharing incredible content, its always a joy to watch you working on those over-engineered beasts.
Do you have a video for fixing the same battery on a G31 (2018)?

thank you so much for this vid
You're so welcome!
Why not have the battery in a side panel in the boot with a lead up to the TCU?
That would be to easy lol
Where is the eso batery on the 2015 x6

What Can i use to scan for any errors on my BMW x1 20i?
Original BMW diagnosis equipment, BMW istaD
Jesus BMW..really has to make it this much work to replace a battery? How about placing it under a simple plastic cover that one can just "POP" off and gain easy access to it? I'm only here because I'm having an issue with my Auxiliary Battery in my F15 2017 X5...and this is the first time I've even heard of THIS battery.. ..garage is charging me $1,000 for a new battery..a new Positive battery cable and a $200.00 estimate fee to find out what was wrong in the first place...total $1,200.00..this is sad as I just replaced the valve cover and gasket on my N55 motor on at 66,000 miles.. and I did this job on my own about a year ago...and that was FUN, I think my SAV is starting to turn into The $$$$ Pit now..
battery where do you buy new?
