Yes, Kevin was definitely beat-boxing and playing cello simultaneously. Check out Kevin's rendition of "Down" on his own webpage. Kevin Olusola. He beat-boxes, plays cello, and sings, using looping and layering. He actually demonstrates on camera how he does it. How can one man have so much talent?
To say that one has a favorite Pentatonix song, is like a parent saying they have a favorite child! That said, I can honestly say that "Say Something" is ONE of my favorite Pentatonix" songs!! As always, their voices are beautiful! But, especially Kirsten and Avi sing this song with such vulnerability that it makes one's heart ache! This was a beautiful, heartfelt reaction and I always look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Kevin is credited with inventing ‘celloboxing’. This is actually how Scott found him for the Sing-off auditions in 2011…he found Kevin’s viral video on UA-cam of him playing cello and beatboxing at the same time. When you have time check out some of Kevin’s solo work. Of the 6 (counting both Matt and Avi), Kevin may be the most overall talented of the band. In addition to his beatboxing skills, he has a beautiful tenor singing voice, plays cello and saxophone, loops and mixes his own solo arrangements, and has many writing credits for some of the bands most popular original songs. He’s also extremely intelligent. He speaks Mandarin And Spanish fluently, and graduated pre-med from Yale right before the Sing-off auditions in 2011.
Kevin's cello-boxing is amazing. I can't imagine trying to keep different beats from beatboxing and playing the cello at the same time. They're all amazing. Thanks for the reaction! For more Kirstin leads, try "Love Me When I Don't," and "Shallow" w/Scott also leading. She also sounds beautiful in "Can You Feel The Love Tonight."
If PTX uses an instrument, it's front and center. This song truly shows how PTX layers so successfully. Kevin invented cello boxing. He used it for Yo-yo Ma's cello competition, and came in 2nd. He also plays the saxophone and piano. He's played Carnegie Hall with both cello and saxophone, before college. He truly is an alien, in the best possible way.
Yes Kevin Olusola is So Very Talented, he is the 1st person and maybe the only person to do Celloboxing and also he has such an Amazing Gorgeous Tenor Voice!!!!
PTX are so stunning. They have no egos. They just serve the song and work together. There is so many more magical songs they have done Lucky you. The discoveries are so fun. For Christmas. Try their version of “ O come all ye faithful”. “ Mary did you Know”. “ Amazing Grace” “ Silent Night” Kirsten and Scott and Kevin’s cello ( Kevin’s cello is named Beyoncé) lead up,their beautiful cover of Shallow Try their epic cover of “Havana”. Kevin plays his imaginary flugelhorn 🤯
They make me forget about any other version of this song I've heard. Kirstie blows my mind in this one. I love it! K.O. Cello-boxing is amazing as well and he just oozes talent. The term Cello-boxing was actually created after Kevin, as he's the only one who could do it and it was given a proper title. To keep that many "sets of time" because your basically playing multiple instruments at once at different time signatures, is insane and he does it like it's the easiest thing in the world. They all did an awesome job on this one. Oh yeah and Kevin actually dropped out of Med School to join PTX and do Music full time....like Mitch we think he's an Alien! LOL Kirstie does a lot in "La La latch" and "Be My Eyes".
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix video. They are amazing. In their 10-year history there has only been 1 member change. The bass, Avi, left in 2017 for personal and family reasons. Matt became their bass late 2017. All of the others are original band members. Mitch and Kirstin change their looks often but it's always them. Kevin created celloboxing (beatboxing while playing the cello). That's how Scott found Kevin; on UA-cam celloboxing.
This PTX performance slays me every time I hear it. The cry in Kristin's voice and the emotional arrangement of the song are so powerful. Kevin's beatboxing and cello are the perfect accompaniment. Just makes me wish they'd have Kirstin do more. She has a way of piercing right to the heart that is so effective. Thank you for your reaction!!!!
Yeah, when Pentatonix started they found Kevin "cello boxing" on the internet. Both Avi (old bass) and Kevin joined the three, and their fist 12 performances were on The Sing Off season 3 Some people react to this, and I love it when they do. Avi the bass singer, is the only person to leave the group to date. Matt is the only one who joined, to replace their bass. By the way, if you do Daft Punk, you will be able to call yourself a Pentaholic! Thanks for the great reaction. 😁😁😎
If you want to see Kevin BLOW YOUR MIND, check out his solo song on his K.O. Channel, his cover of “Down”. He does EVERY instrument, beatboxes, plays the electric cello…it’s NUTS how talented he is.
Yes, Kevin's "celloboxing" and Kirstie's lead were amazing in this one! I would highly recommend reacting to Kevin's cover of "Down" on his solo channel, 'KO' on you tube. There is also a very old video of Kevin playing saxophone at Carnegie Hall when he was a teenager still in high school. The video is Kevin Olusola "From The Top: Live from Carnegie Hall-2005"-- the performance and interview after will blow you away! For Kirstie leads in songs, check out "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", "Shallow", "Perfect" and "Rather Be".
There has only been one change in members (Avi the bass singer left and was replaced by Matt). Kevin is a master celloboxer. I agree with you that this performance is stellar.
Thanks for your reaction to PTX "Say Something" and Kirstin really shines, even if it was her best friend Scott who pushed her forward while trying to keep his hands still himself. Scott hates labels hence No Official leader, but he was the one that got them together and on the NBC "Sing-off" show in 2011. He wants each of them to be successful on their own while contributing to the group. Since they filmed this years ago (Scott is so young and Mitch had the beard) Kirstin did "Kinky Boots" and Mitch put out his own album over the summer called, "Messer"
Great reaction ...thank you! Your amazement is so genuine. If you want a Kirstin up front video then it MUST be "Wizard of Ahhh's" She is an absolute superstar in that not to mention as beautiful as a human being could possibly be. This was her first opportunity to be up front and she nailed it! She literally owns an epic video
Kirstie songs: La La Latch Rather Be Be My Eyes Water (part of the Popspring 2016 performance) My Favorite Things Shallow Songs with Kevin on cello: Radioactive (w/ Lindsey Stirling) Papaoutai (also w/ Lindsey Stirling) Perfect Shallow Dancing on My Own (after Avi left & before Matt came, so the cello is doing Avi's part) Thank You (also has Scott on piano)
Kevin calls it "celloboxing," and he invented it. He was doing it on UA-cam before the original trio found him and asked him to help them form Pentatonix. Kevin also plays the saxophone (though he doesn't beatbox at the same time), went to Yale pre-med before he decided on a career in music instead, and speaks five languages, including Mandarin.
This song is tremendously moving. I love them, but Avi is always my favorite. Please check out his solo work, just released First Place I Go. Such a beautiful song.
This one always makes me cry. It's hard to hold the tears back, the harmony, the voices, the cello. All of it, the tone of it, is truly stunning. Kirsten does this with true feeling of passion and Avi! OMG. To my own opinion it's a masterpiece. I can see how you feel, totally real.
Canadian here. It's been 3 years, so you probably will not see my comment, however, here I go. I LOVE your Pentatonix reactions. The emotion on your face tells the tale. You would love their cover (upgrade) of Kiiara's song 'Gold'. I can just picture your emotions and your heart swelling if/when you get the chance to take a look see.
Welcome into the Pentatonics rabbit hole! Mary Did You Know is one of their most amazing songs. Please react to it when you can. They are so amazingly versatile and can sing anything.
Kevin gets to perform the music artform he created here "Cello-boxing". You are right , Kirstin is just bleeding emotion on this video. just wow! Thanks for the great reaction.
Yup that’s Kevin…that’s how they discovered him… on UA-cam beatboxing and playing cello.. he’s amazing!.. very intelligent.. speaks Mandarin fluently.. beatboxes, cello master, and a beautiful voice to boot! Only member change has been Avi-bass. Matt joined after he left.
That’s how Kevin was found and asked to join Pentatonix. He had a UA-cam video that they saw. Yes, he is both beatboxing and playing the cello. He is a walking miracle! At 17 he played in Carnagie Hall ( famous musical venue). He also plays piano, saxophone, speaks Mandain Chinese, …Phenom!🥰
Pentatonix whip ass on every cover they do, they bring tears to my eyes [male and straight] more than any other group has donme in my almost 80 years. They have worked for it and for mine, there is no singer or singers that can equal them.
If you are looking for a Kirstie-centric song, "Be My Eyes" is a very good one (an original, not a cover). Probably my favorite song of theirs where she is the lead.
Kistie is front and center on "Seasons of Love" - their live performance for Capitol Forth, also - she takes the lead on their original "Water", you can see that live if you search for their Popspring performance
This song is so emotional. Kevin is so talented, you have to check out some of his solos on his channel. I love his Harry Styles "sign of the times" "Sing" is an original and a fun one to react to. Definitely Christmas anything, they"ll all great. I love their version of "Oh Come all ye Faithful" and "The Little Drummer Boy" Kirsten really shines. Enjoy the adventure and Happy Holidays🎄☃️
This was a great reaction! I love the fact that you said something (!) about each member, that's very respectful and appreciating. Please do "Run to you", the harmonies will blow you away.. and yes, the different Mitch looks will continue the more vids you're watching
They turned this emotional song into something as you say, unreal. One of the many things that make them so good is their incredible ability to arrange the parts, to make the audience hear just what they should at any moment. Featuring Kirstie was perfect and the bit in the middle where they each came in turn was the unexpected twist... And yes Kevin was discovered by PTX through a viral video of him "cello-boxing"....Kevin may be the most talented of this super talented group. Check out his "Down" version where he does it all live.
Since Pentatonix started 10 years ago they have only had one change when Avi the bass with the beard left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt. People often think that they have had several changes of people as Mitch and Kirsten change their appearances a lot. Love watching your journey down the rabbit hole as you discover some of their amazing performances. If you would like to see how they began, you could watch some of their performances in the Sing Off in 2011 - number 12, Dog Days iare Over is my favourite and is the first time Mitch stunned the judges with his solo part. Just a few other recommendations are.... Daft Punk (their first grammy), Amazing Grace, Can you Feel the Love Tonight, The First Noel, Mary Did You Know, ad infinitum.... Everything they have done is amazing. When you are ready to be "Mitch Slapped", watch AHA Singapore and Defying Gravity.
I think of this song as their answer to all the people who complain that Scott and Mitch get all the solos. I, though, will never complain at a Mitch solo. The "another video another look for Mitch" trend will, indeed, continue. I liked this goatee-phase Mitch, myself. I'm not sure you've even seen emo Mitch which evolved into the very prevalent devil's lock Mitch, its variants with bleaching or purple, or early early Abercrombie Mitch. You did bald Mitch and mullet Mitch (though not shaved around his ears mullet) and current Mitch which is almost, but not quite, like Freddie Mercury-stache Mitch from a few years ago. Sooo many looks to go.
Scott only "came forward" on the slowest part of the song when he led off the part with no one else harmonizing. I think you meant Avi when he solo'd which built to the peak of the song.
Wonderful, inspirational reaction to a beautiful Pentatonix song. May you find many more...both for your pleasure, and our joy at watching you lost in the beauty of what you are hearing ❤️
I often wonder how PTX chooses some of their songs. It may be that their arranger, Ben Bram, comes up with some of the choices. My favorite Kirstin leads are this and Shallow (where she and Matt share the lead). Kevin is a musical genius - no exaggeration. People have made some suggestions for his solo work elsewhere in the comments - I second Renegade. The PTX members are all in the service of the music and each other - they step back for each other to meet the demands of the song.
I so love and appreciate your taking the time to learn each member of a group's name! There are groups that I've known for years, and I still don't know who's who, amongst them---like, Fleetwood Mac, and they're one of my favorite, all-time bands!
Have you ever seen _The Wizard of Oz,_ with Judy Garland? A classic movie, from 1939. Well, *_if_* you have, you should check out _Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)._ And if you haven't seen _The Wizard of Oz_ you should do so and *then* watch _The Wizard of Ahhhs._ You can find _The Wizard of Ahhhs_ here: ua-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/v-deo.html However, do please watch the original movie first; _Wizard of Ahhhs_ won't make sense to you unless you do. The reason I recommend it is that you asked for songs where Kirstie takes the lead, and she does that for over 6 minutes in _The Wizard of Ahhhs._ The others are all there, but Kirstie is clearly the star, and she absolutely shines.
Scott discovered Kevin on UA-cam beat boxing and playing cello at the same time. It’s how he was recruited. He did it live when I saw them live. He’s so talented it’s unreal. They are all amazing.
A Kirstin song I love is one of their originals, called Water. Written by her & Kevin. I typically don't care for sad songs, but when someone does it so beautifully like this one I can't help but love it.😍 A youtube video of Kevin celloboxing is actually what got the attention of Scott, who decided that Kevin was exactly what they were looking for in a beatboxer.
Yes Avi Kaplan got one of his extremely rare melody sections on this one. Here is Avi's announcement with the band sitting with him about leaving and why. ua-cam.com/video/JU244kTWH-o/v-deo.html You may want to look at his solo original music. Latest is "First Place I Go" characterized as Outlaw Country produced by Shooter Jennings
I really like the way you super imposed the transparent full screen video. It was cool as I could see them and you reaction at the same time. Please try their original "Run to You" or their new "My Heart with You". Yes Kevin was Celloboxing! For something different another great song by Great Big World is "Already Home," you may really like it.
Great reaction. I know we’re just leaving the Christmas season, but please check out their original, THANK YOU, you’ll love it. A couple more originals you’ll love include SING, HAPPY NOW, and BE MY EYES. Thanks a lot.
Just wait....there is so much more for you to listen to. They are amazing and all are multi-talented. Try Amazing Grace and The Evolution of Michael Jackson!
I love how this was kirstys time to shine. Ptx. Is so great at allowing every member to shine. With kirsty she was often relegated to backing vocals. Or she'd be trying to keep up with mitch, not am easy task.
I second this request for Kevin's cover of Down. It's pure 🔥
Third!
Me too!
That performance will blow your mind!
I can also highly recommend checking out Kevin's page.
It should actually come with a warning message as he *will* blow your mind 🥰
To say that one has a favorite Pentatonix song, is like a parent saying they have a favorite child! That said, I can honestly say that "Say Something" is ONE of my favorite Pentatonix" songs!! Avi's solo was also amazing and emotional. Thanks for your reaction. :)
They made Scott hold onto both chairs to keep his hands still! 😅 And if you love Kirstie here, just wait until you hear her in Shallow!!
Check out Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). They take it to a whole new level, especially Kirsten!
Pentatonix "Run to You" outstanding original.
Please react to their cover of "Shallow" please? Thank You in advance.
Kevin is a master multitasker for sure.
Also "Be My Eyes" is Kirsty lead.
I think you would enjoy their cover of “Shallow”, I really do.
Oh yeah. I never liked the original but I absolutely love PTX cover.
Kirstin...Shallow, Rather be
Kevin was a pre med student in college when scott found him on youtube
please react to one of their originals Run to You it was written by Avi and Kevin. This was Kirstin's moment
Love this version.
Yes Kevin Olusola is So Very Talented, he is the 1st person and maybe the only person to do Celloboxing and also he has such an Amazing Gorgeous Tenor Voice!!!!
PTX are so stunning. They have no egos. They just serve the song and work together. There is so many more magical songs they have done
Lucky you. The discoveries are so fun. For Christmas. Try their version of “ O come all ye faithful”. “ Mary did you Know”. “ Amazing Grace” “ Silent Night”
Kirsten and Scott and Kevin’s cello ( Kevin’s cello is named Beyoncé) lead up,their beautiful cover of Shallow
Try their epic cover of “Havana”. Kevin plays his imaginary flugelhorn 🤯
You can feel the moment in this performance by Kirstin where her heart was ripped from her chest, so much emotion.
Kevin also plays cello and beatboxes in Radioactive by PTX.
..
They all did an awesome job on this one. Oh yeah and Kevin actually dropped out of Med School to join PTX and do Music full time....like Mitch we think he's an Alien! LOL Kirstie does a lot in "La La latch" and "Be My Eyes".
I would suggest their original Run To You. It's a 5 part harmony. Also their cover of Imagine. A powerful song, with a powerful message.
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix video. They are amazing. In their 10-year history there has only been 1 member change. The bass, Avi, left in 2017 for personal and family reasons.
Yes, Kevin and others call this incredible skill/ability Cello-Boxing.
Yeah, when Pentatonix started they found Kevin "cello boxing" on the internet. ♥ Kirstie shines in the song Be My Eyes. Your reactions are quickly becoming the best part of my day! Keep doing what you're doing. :-)
All I can say... ❤️❤️❤️ simply because I love your reaction, absolutely love pentatonix !
Kirsten was amazing!!!
If you want to see Kevin BLOW YOUR MIND, check out his solo song on his K.O. Channel, his cover of “Down”. He does EVERY instrument, beatboxes, plays the electric cello…it’s NUTS how talented he is.
💕💕💕 ***************SOMETIMES, THERE IS JUST NO WORDS GOOD ENOUGH*************** 💕💕💕 Really loved your raw & emotional reaction!
That has always been Kevin's expertise beatboxing while playing cello
Yes, Kevin's "celloboxing" and Kirstie's lead were amazing in this one! I would highly recommend reacting to Kevin's cover of "Down" on his solo channel, 'KO' on you tube. There is also a very old video of Kevin playing saxophone at Carnegie Hall when he was a teenager still in high school. OMG .... I've never heard this before. My eyes immediately sting from the tears.... Jesus
A beautiful reaction to one of Pentatonix's most beautiful songs.
Great analysis of the individual performers too.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏻
One of my favorites by them. Thanks for your reaction.
There has only been one change in members (Avi the bass singer left and was replaced by Matt). Kevin is a master celloboxer. I agree with you that this performance is stellar.

Kevin also plays the saxophone (though he doesn't beatbox at the same time), went to Yale pre-med before he decided on a career in music instead, and speaks five languages, including Mandarin.
I love everything they do but this one is my favorite by far!
This song is tremendously moving. I love them, but Avi is always my favorite. Please check out his solo work, just released First Place I Go. Such a beautiful song.
AVIII IS AMAZING 💯😍😍
Pentatonix were my introduction to this song. I don’t think anyone can top their cover for sheer emotion.
If you want to be impressed by his singing, beatbox and cello, check out Kevin Olusola's "Renegade". Heavenly

Kirstin
I love this upgrade! So perfect 🥰 My favorite song!

ABSOLUTELY BREATH TAKEN!!!!!! 💯
Kirstie really shines in their live PBS performance of Seasons of Love and Love Me When I Don't, a song she wrote.
Really enjoy their version of this one! Keep the reactions coming!
I love your Pentatonix reactions … Well done!
This is my personal favorite PTX song.
If you want to hear how talented Kevin is, check out his solo version of the song Down. It will blow your mind.
I love PTX version of this song. They all showed emotions. I just love how they slowly joined one at a time.
👉👉There has only been ONE member change! Avi left and was replaced by Matt. YES Kevin is cello-boxing!!!!
I love this version! Thank you for this reaction, your expressions were lovely.
I think of this song as their answer to all the people who complain that Scott and Mitch get all the solos. I, though, will never complain at a Mitch solo.

You did bald Mitch and mullet Mitch (though not shaved around his ears mullet) and current Mitch which is almost, but not quite, like Freddie Mercury-stache Mitch from a few years ago. Sooo many looks to go.
Yes Kevin calls what he does cello boxing. he does play and beat box at the same time
The original of this song is by A Great Big World on their own. Christina Aguilera heard it and wanted to sing it with them.
Scott only "came forward" on the slowest part of the song when he led off the part with no one else harmonizing. I think you meant Avi when he solo'd which built to the peak of the song.
I don't know if anyone has said Mitch and Scott have music together called Superfruit amazing music there, Guy exe. Is a favorite of mine.
Yes, Kevin is cello Boxing
Have you ever seen _The Wizard of Oz,_ with Judy Garland? A classic movie, from 1939. Well, *_if_* you have, you should check out _Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)._ And if you haven't seen _The Wizard of Oz_ you should do so and *then* watch _The Wizard of Ahhhs._ You can find _The Wizard of Ahhhs_ here: ua-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/v-deo.html
However, do please watch the original movie first; _Wizard of Ahhhs_ won't make sense to you unless you do.
I typically don't care for sad songs, but when someone does it so beautifully like this one I can't help but love it.😍
A youtube video of Kevin celloboxing is actually what got the attention of Scott, who decided that Kevin was exactly what they were looking for in a beatboxer.
You have to react to their rendition of the Prayer just released
I think we are family, I was sobbing with most of the songs
This is probably my fave performance along with the evolution of Michael Jackson.
Love your reactions from your 1st Hallelujah reaction
I think for Covers, PENTATONIX is the best there is. Love them, They started out from an Acapella singing competition on Television. 11 years ago.
Favourite things
Yes Avi Kaplan got one of his extremely rare melody sections on this one.
Here is Avi's announcement with the band sitting with him about leaving and why.

You may want to look at his solo original music. Latest is "First Place I Go" characterized as Outlaw Country produced by Shooter Jennings
Kirsten wrote and stars in BE MY EYES.
Please react to " Shallow".
I told you so by Randy Travis..
Great reaction. I know we’re just leaving the Christmas season, but please check out their original, THANK YOU, you’ll love it. A couple more originals you’ll love include SING, HAPPY NOW, and BE MY EYES. Thanks a lot.
Another one of my favs.
yes he can do both together . here's a link to see .Stay With Me (Sam Smith looping KOver) - Kevin Olusola - UA-cam
Soo beautiful!
Check out wizard of ahhhs, kirsti carries most of the song
Just wait....there is so much more for you to listen to. They are amazing and all are multi-talented. Try Amazing Grace and The Evolution of Michael Jackson!
Great reaction.
Chelloboxing is what Kevin has given the name of what he is doing.
I love how this was kirstys time to shine. Ptx. Is so great at allowing every member to shine. With kirsty she was often relegated to backing vocals. Or she'd be trying to keep up with mitch, not am easy task.
