    Avi sounds like another cello in the beginning

    • @janetranslates

      His lowest note is hard to hear because the cello's on the same note (5:14). I also love his dissonant note at 5:18. You don't usually hear the dissonant tone coming from the bass.

    They filmed this video to look like a painting or photograph which is why no one is moving. Scott was gripping the back of the chairs to keep himself from “hand singing”. Having a music theater background, Kirstin sings with deep emotions that show on her face! Lovely when they intro the harmonies one at a time... Scott, Avi, Mitch, Kirstin, and as you said, would have been an interesting way to start too.

    This is no knock on Matt, because he's great, too, but god DAMN does Avi have the richest voice of anyone I've heard, no matter whether he's down in the low octaves or up in the higher range. Just beautiful.

      So rich 😭

    • @SnowWhitesBite
      @SnowWhitesBite 3 роки тому +12

      Avi feels more classical and Matt feels more contemporary. I think that is because Avi is so rich that he sounds great on these slower songs with cello sounding notes, and Matt does better on more R&B tracks like New Rules/Are You That Somebody. Like I know this isn't completely accurate, but Avi feels like a cello and Matt sounds like a bass guitar.

    Pentatonix Mad World is a really good song where it’s just vocals no beatboxing. It sounds so pure and you get to hear everyone, minus Kevin, show their range and talent.

      Well them do "Run to You" written by Avi and Kevin and there is no beatboxing at all so Kevin gets to sing.

  • @LisaMT1218
    @LisaMT1218 3 роки тому +42

    Their original "Run to You" is all vocal, and mesmerizing.
    Their cover of "Royals" by Lorde spotlights percussion and bass along with Mitch, its an old one and the production (as you've taught me) is much less complex or polished sounding. It almost sounds like they are singing in a small room.
    Last, their cover of "New Rules" × "Are You That Somebody?" really showcases Kevin and Matt!

    Christina Aguilera was a judge on The Voice when A Great Big World recorded this song as a solo act. They were invited as a guest artist to the show. She fell in love with the song and asked the band if she could duet with them on the live show. After the performance they immediately went to the studio and rerecorded the song.

Kirstie’s voice shines so beautifully! Of course Kevin’s voice at the end is such a pleasant surprise! It’s nice that Mitch and Kevin are support but not the main focus like they usually are. We all know they can sing the phone book and make it sound beautiful!

He appeared at Carnegie Hall on both while he was in high school. He has a solo channel where does looping "KOvers" that are insane. I think Kevin’s cello Beyoncé is the only instrument where there BEING an instrument isn’t obtrusive. And I one hundred percent thin’ it’s because Kevin is just using a different one of his voices. Their sync is still in place. And it’s, as ever, breathtaking.

  • @gailseatonhumbert9199
    @gailseatonhumbert9199 3 роки тому +8

    This was controversial when they did it. The first time they allowed Kevin's cello, "Beyonce", to sing with them. It covers the bass part that Avi would ordinarily be providing for the performance as he adds up in melody because his voice carries emotion so well. It is not a cappella. The next time the cello appears is in "Dancing on My Own" that the 4 of them did after Avi announced he was leaving. FYI Kevin's cello was also used in Avi's solo project song of "Field and Pier" tuned to Avi's voice.
    "Radioactive" was Lindsey Stirling's video who is a violinist and she invited Pentatonix to appear with her. So it was like other appearances they had done with other artists and orchestras like the John Williams tribute at the AMAs or the Kennedy Center honors for Tom Hanks.

      @@gailseatonhumbert9199 r\whooosh. My comment was about your "The next time the cello appears is in "Dancing on My Own" that the 4 of them did after Avi announced he was leaving". You forget a song Papaoutei. Though it was with Lindsey, it is not on her channel, so it is not a case of "she invited Pentatonix to appear with her," as it is well documented it was PTX who decided to do this song, while they were on tour in Europe. And while Radioactive got views mostly on Lindsey's channel, it appeared on album format along side with Papaoutei only under PTX name. And how the hell am I "distracting from acapella practice".
