A little backstory before i watch the video. This was shot during a tour - they asked the crew to create a painting backdrop, then performed as if they were figures in the painting. The goal was minimal movement by the performers. We know that Scott (more than the others) sings with his hands and entire body. If you look closely, you can see how tightly he's gripping the back of the chair. Minimal physical movement amplified the emotion in their voices. Another PTX masterpiece.
Speaking of Scott, funny anecdote - notice his hands? As you know he 'sings' with his hands and if you look closely, he is actually gripping the chairs to stop from moving his hands, not just resting his hands on them.
This is one of the very few songs with Avi singing a phrase of the melody. Avi said in a interviews this spring that he only got to use 10% of his voice in Pentatonix. It is the first song to have Kevin's cello in it. The 2 collaborations with Lindsey Stirling (who is a violinist) also have it and then Dancing On My Own with the cello taking Avi's part released when it was announced he was leaving. Those 4 I believe are the only ones during the first 6 years of the group. Kevin used to play his cello during shows with his original composition "Renegade" while the rest of the band was offstage. (Avi would demonstrate Mongolian throat aka overtone singing while Kevin set up).
Thank you for a great reaction. Kirstie’s voice is so emotional in this song, really outstanding. But that bass, though. Avi’s voice goes straight to my soul and sends chills down my spine. I hope that you will react to more of his own music and suggest “I’m Only Getting Started”, “First Place I Go” and the stunning “He Don’t Love You Right” (lyrics video) with a very strong message and Avi singing in his beautiful high range. Well, basically anything Avi, it’s all so very, very good.
I have noticed that long time reactors begin to get an anticipatory shoulder hunch when the "wall of sound" is building. "Mary Did You Know" has both Kevin and Avi singing. Also, it is absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Carmen.
Enjoyed the reaction. I agree that one of the things Pentatonix does so well (and without extra sound engineering) is their command of creating dynamics (swells, crescendos, decrescendos, harmonic layering, vowel usage, staccato notes, arpegiated bell chords, etc.) to make the music come alive.
I love Kirstin's emotional lead in this one - it's one of my top PTX favorites! I think of Kirstin's last 3 repetitions of "Say something" as someone's final, desperate plea to try to save a relationship that's been going downhill for some time, and then Kevin's "Say something, I'm giving up on you" as saying goodbye to a relationship that has already ended. I'm reading all that into it, of course, but that's just how it's always hit me.
Carmen, you really have a great ear for the music. I watch a lot of the reactors on you tube, and I would say, without doubt, you are one of the best. Thank you, Keep it up.
Beautiful beyond words! So well executed! I cannot recall any piece of music moving as much as this one did when I saw it for the first time. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Just gorgeous- this one’s in my top 10 which is SOOOOOO hard when it comes to Pentatonix. Avi going down the scales with the cello, my heart can barely handle it. Of course, Kevin making that cello sing while beatboxing, Kirstie killing the lead and Scott and Mitch - just perfection ❤️🙌🙌
Think you're in for a treat with their new video from the new album. The song, "Prayers for this World " has incredible lyrics and a super strong message.
This one is a masterpiece; It brought me to tears first time hearing it (It also confirmed that Kirstin is my favorite member; the others are a really close 2nd!☺). Your reaction to the video brought me to tears again, just like with all other reactors when i've watched their responses. You're a very kind and sweet video reactionary Carmen, I enjoy your channel and hope you gain many more subscribers. 👍
Your reaction skills are so polished, Carmen. There was a time when you struggled, and got blocked, and you were unfairly criticized, but now! So professional and articulate, and backing up the vid?! Well done you. The smile on your face every time Avi does his 'thing' is amusing. I think you have a secret crush on someone. 😍 I'm a Kirsty fan, and this and Shallow are her best, although everything she does is amazing, as are the whole PTX team. Great performance and fantastic reaction. Thank you.
Radioactive, I think was the first one they did with celloboxing in, it features Lindsey Sterling on the violin, highly recommend. If I remember right, Scott had always wanted to go white blonde, and I think he used the Love Again (it's an original, very heavy on the EDM) video as an excuse to do so. I can't remember where I heard him talking about it, but I think he said it was harder to achieve than expected, so he didn't do it again after. Mitch has had so many different looks, you can almost date when a video is from purely from how Mitch looks in it (although it gets a little tricky when he switched back & forth with the mullet & moustache a couple times. I think my fave look was the lilac side swoop, he was extra sassy, I felt, during that period. You can see that look in the Popspring 2016 mini concert. Also, that layer & building with each added voice, that you enjoyed. They do something similar in Little Drummer Boy, and it's just as gorgeous in that. I love it when we get to hear Scott & Avi blending together, and also Mitch & Avi is stunning too but for different reasons. I guess, we're so used to the trio's harmony that anything that steps outside of that just gives that added oomph.
I heard the PTX version of this song before the Great Big World version. When I went back and heard the GBW version it was so restrained in comparison to PTX. The PTX version just hit me a lot harder.
Hi Carmen! Great reaction! I love your Pentatonix Mondays. I hope you react to their new song on the Christmas Album, Prayers for This World. It is fantastic! Have a wonderous week.

This is one of my favorite PTX upgrades.

"Stacking" is exactly correct - that's what it's called!

I am definitely reacting to more Avi solo music! 😊
@@CarmenReacts That’s great, thank you👍

That is why Pentatonix is the greatest group Love to listen to them and not get tired❤
Beautiful beyond words! So well executed! I cannot recall any piece of music moving as much as this one did when I saw it for the first time. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Loved the reaction. Yes that build was just masterfully done and changed the entire tone of the song. Gifted, gifted, gifted.....
I recommend “Gold” by Kiara. You can focus on every singer and this is another upgrade.

Beautiful reaction! This song is absolutely beautiful beyond words. I LOVE PTX ❤
This one's so beautiful!! Love it!
I love PTX so much, but just wanted to throw out there that you are one absolutely beautiful young lady !!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words 😊
Avi has the lead in "Light in the Hallway." It showcases his non-bass singing voice.
Please react to “Be My Eyes”, featuring Kirsten

I’m starting my Pentatonix Christmas reactions in 2 weeks and that will be the first one. I’m so excited to check it out! 😊
Avi !!!!! 😍💔
Great reaction! I love this one but then I love all PTX. Please react to their latest video Prayers for this World. It will blow you away.
if you would like something try GOLD (Kiiara cover)
Recommend their cover of Perfect.
Try their cover of Dreams.
Please react Cheerleader and Rather Be, they're amazing, love them much. Thanks for the reactions. You're beautiful too...
You should check out Walk Off the Earth's Cover. They aren't Acapella so their voices aren't nearly as good as PTX but they're incredibly fun.
Thanks for the recommendation, Charles! That was a great cover!
You deficit need to do Kevin's solo work too. I'd recommend Down
I would have made a fortune, but I am from Belarus, and we are under sanctions. By the way, you are beautiful, always be yourself
I would like you to see the video of the kiss of the rose by pentanix
I will do that one after Christmas, it’s on the schedule already 😊
Avi and Kirsten had to date in the beginning.
i know that you love Avi-try Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
