We'll never know what would have happened. Bama and LSU both had dominant defenses. Oklahoma State and Stanford had dominant offenses. Would have been a perfect year for a 4 team playoff.
Bryce Morrison while that would have been great to see, I still maintain my opinion that no one in the country could beat Alabama or LSU that year besides each other.
@@rayh.8222 Honestly that is just a dumb excuse, I get it it was very tragic, but you can't blame a loss on it. A loss is a loss. It wasn't like Iowa state was dominating the game the whole game we actually came back. It was 24-7 at one point in the 3rd quarter.
And because of that double overtime loss, LSU had to play Alabama again. You don't want to play Nick Saban twice and Les Miles was complacent. But I have some confidence that LSU would have beaten Oklahoma State since they beat either 4 or 5 of the top 10 teams in the country. And if they had done that, they would be considered the greatest team of all time. But thanks to BCS computations and the freak Oklahoma State loss, LSU went slowly but surely downhill from that loss to Alabama until they beat them last Saturday!
@@RadicallyOptimistic nobody gave Alabama that championship. They earned it on the field and went on to win the national championship in decisive fashion.
@@RadicallyOptimistic There was never a rule that said the title game couldn't be a rematch. BCS #1 vs #2, and nobody but a chump would put a team with a loss to unranked ISU in either spot.
LSU's defense did all they could in that title game, the fact that LSU lost 21-0 is not a knock on the defense cause they were on the field All Night Long
Peyton Overall Bama put up 21 against the supposed best defense in college football but the by far best offense in college football would’ve been shut down somehow. Lol
@@SpaceGhost92 Yes because LSU would have been able to run the ball on Oklahoma State which time of possession would have been in LSU's favor. Bama had a dominant defense which kept their offense on the field. BAMA had the ball for 37 minutes of the game. LSUs defense was in bad field position all game because the offense couldnt pass midfield. LSU would have moved the ball on OK STate IMO.
All FGs until a final TD too. Blame Les Miles starting Jefferson over the hot handed Lee. He didn't game plan at all. Cost us the bowl game AND cost us being one if the best college teams in history
@@khughes1997 when the playoff system was started I figured something bigger then 4 teams because there have been undefeated conference championship teams who never got a spot I know those teams are group of 5 teams and little league teams but still
FWIW this BCS is the reason we have a playoff now which is what everyone wanted. It woulda have been a great playoff with BAMA, LSU, Okie State and Stanford.
bammybound Now if only they can make the step to actual playoffs like every other level of football. Bama would have still been an at-large which I wouldn't have seen an issue with.
That would have been the best playoff ever, Jarvis Landry and OBJ, AJ McCarron and Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon, and Andrew Luck and Zach Ertz. That just sounds amazing.
The BCS had multiple controversies over the years such as 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2011 as notable examples, but 2011 was definitely the final straw and the immediate cause.
Because, dumbass, lots of #2 teams in the human polls got snubbed in the final game. Kansas State snubbed and #4 Nebraska getting into the BCS championship games were jokes. OU and Nebraska got in when they didn't even win their conference. They tweaked the computer rankings nearly every year. I don't think any poll was more powerful than another: they were all equal parts.
The BCS system took into account the two polls and the computer rankings to make the BCS rankings. So, all three were used to make the final BCS rankings. Bama was #2 in 2 out of 3 and OK State was #2 in 1 out of 3, so that put Bama as #2. Bama smoked LSU so it was't a bad choice to put them in. Would OK State beat LSU, we will never know.
Everyone forgets how dominant the SEC West was that year. Arkansas of all teams went 11-2. They got destroyed by both LSU and Bama. But then again, they ran roughshod against every other team they went up against. I believe the razorbacks kept Alabama in the title game due to the credibility that the Hogs had.
xCHUBBYMUFFINx Any team that doesn’t win their OWN conference has NO business playing for a National Title, Ohio State was one of those teams last year, Penn State won the Big 10, yet Ohio State gets in the playoffs?? Oklahoma State deserved to play for a National Title that season, you can say how dominant the SEC was, but we’ll never know if another team was better...
@chubbymuffin ok state only won their confrsnce cause they didnt have championship game and they lost to an unranked team that should've took them to #5
wtf was les miles thinking with that qb! thats probably THE worst qb on a #1 ranked team ive ever seen! dude panicks easy, very indecisive, has shit for instincts. i want to say he was single handedly responsible for LSU's loss in the championship game.
@@braedenbrown2138 Who was the original starter? And didn't Jefferson beat them the year before in 2010 in Baton Rouge? I know LSU won in 2010.. I just can't remember the QB.
@@spidaman0112 Yeah Lee started because of how bad he struggled the first time. Which is extremely dumb give the man a chance. He got us to an undefeated season he deserved the chance to lose.
Bryce Morrison yes i know but after Oklahoma state lost to Iowa state Arkansas moved up to number 3 for week 12 against number 1 LSU. Look up that game.
In the last week of the regular season, LSU were #1, Alabama were #2, and Arkansas were #3. When ranked #3, Arkansas suffered a pretty convincing defeat at the hands of the Geaux-Tigers.
Kizito, 2014, really? That kinda worked out against the SEC as a down year, how do you figure? They suffered a few end game bowl defeats that made people question the SEC, not to even add the Alabama loss to tOSU in the first playoff (2014). Strongest SEC years, 2007-2011. Some really strong times since then, but I don't think it has ever recaptured that magic, not fully.
@@thunderzking0342 tcu wasn't in the natty because there was 2 undefeated power 5 teams in front of them. Any other year tcu would have been in because usually there was a team with a loss in the natty but unfortunately for tcu that year, oregon and Auburn were both undefeated.
bama gets favored cause they never give enough of a reason to not be favored. whether or not you think they should've been put into the playoff the first 4 years they proved they belonged in the top 4 every year (even 2014). In 2014 by barely losing to the eventual champion, in 2015 by routing #3 and beating #1, in 2016 by whooping #4 and barely losing to #2 on a pair of missed OPI calls, and in 2017 by whooping #1 and rallying to defeat #3. None of y'all would argue that OSU in 2014, MSU and Clemson in 2015, Washington and Clemson in 2016, and Clemson and Georgia in 2017 didn't deserve to be there. So how'd they all either lose or have to fight with everything they had to barely win if Alabama was so overrated every year?
This season was the last straw for the BCS. I personally think Alabama and LSU were the best teams, but Oklahoma State definitely should've had a shot to win it all.
Joey OSU beat a ranked OU and bama played a high school team last game of the season. It was done because of the money. Lau bama would draw in more money vs Lsu osu. It was rigged that year and OSU got hosed.
@Bleed Orange LSU was #1, ISU only got to a bowl game because they beat OSU. That's the difference, and Bama proved they were a better team when they beat LSU 21-0.
No mention of LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas being in top three. The accomplishment is insane for the SEC. Would love to see a video about SEC dominance from 2005-2015. Insane to see each team have great success here or there.
Why do you southerners have so much pride in your whole conference lol, I’m an Ohio state fan and I hate everyone else in mine lol, do y’all forget y’all are rivals with one another?
Im an LSU fan, an thinking of this season.. Iowa State kinda took our national title away. Saban wasnt gonna lose 2 games to the same team in the same season, and that was shown in the 21-0 "blowout" great video that was such a crazy season. Could be a 30/30 for espn IMO. Nice vid.
Definitely. Iowa State assured that our 2011 team wouldn't be up there with 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami, just like Motiejunas' back sweat assured that the 2016 Warriors wouldn't be up there with the 1996 Bulls.
The difference between 2011 and 2016 was that Ohio State was the best team in their conference, even if they didn't win the conference title. Alabama not only wasn't the best team in their conference, but they lost the head-to-head to LSU, the best team in the conference. Them being given a second chance was the biggest unfair advantage in sports history.
OSU never played florida.... so yeah. and the SEC had no teams other than Alabama who could challenge them. it was weak. I never said Bama was garbage I just thought that those two teams played a bunch of high school teams in the regular season and were granted, by royalty, the NCG
For all intents and purposes, and by every logical metric, this isn’t a controversy. Alabama lost by 3 in OT to the #1 team. Okie St lost by 7 to a team that finished under .500. Alabama had a tougher schedule top to bottom that season as well.
I was unfortunate or fortunate enough to be in the OSU band that went up to Ames. Probably the 2nd coldest football game I've ever been to; that including the ISU fans bumping my shoulder as they rush the field. The coldest game of football I've ever attended was the next game after vs. OU; though it was our turn to rush the field, finding out it was all for nothing made it that much colder.
2019 was probably the best team of ALL TIME. As a Bama fan, it still irks me that we lost to LSU by only 5 points that year. We should have won if Tua hadn't fumbled away that first touchdown, I think that game would have been different. Either way, LSU deserved that title in 2019 and the moniker of "One of the best teams EVER." LSU had talent coming out of their ears in 2019. I do miss coach "O" on the sidelines. He was the PERFECT coach for LSU. Bayou boy that knew what LSU meant to his state.
With the playoff i have become more acceptive of the fact Alabama got in but as the old saying goes "if u dont win ur conference u shouldn't go to the championship". -nick saban 2003

If there had been a playoff, Alabama still wins the title imo.
The national championship game should NEVER be a game between 2 teams in the SAME conference and the SAME SIDE of that conference. Hence why we changed that ruling as soon as we did to the playoffs. Cause they knew they messed up.
Although the BCS had always been a flawed system, this year really exposed how flawed a system it was. What a boring, pointless national championship game. The only national championship game in the last 15 years I didn't watch live. Not saying Ok State or Stanford deserved to be put in above Alabama but the playoff system should've been implemented much earlier. It would've been awesome to watch LSU take on Ok State and Alabama take on Stanford. Instead we got treated to an SEC exhibition game.

That year I saw 2 elite defenses in LSU and Alabama. We saw in BCS Championship game who the best defense and team in country was. An elite defense will beat an elite offense any day
I think you should make a vid about the 2003 season. That year Oklahoma got to play in the Natty after getting blown out in the big 12 championship game to Kansas State.
That was arguably even worse than what happened with Bama in 2011. At least they barely lost to number one. Oklahoma got pummeled by a team ranked fairly lower than them and still got to play for the championship.
I'm a USC fan. I'm not one who says we are the real National Champs of 2003 or anything, but we deserved a chance against LSU. Oklahoma getting in was a joke.
@Dennis Williams thank you for that. I’m an LSU fan who knows USC deserved to play way more. Although your loss was in 3OT on the road, LSU’s was very good as well. (OU’s was terrible) 8-5 Florida lost to #15,#13,#11,#8,#5. Three of those by 5 or less, one by 14 and one by 20 in the bowl game. Which is nuts bc UF was 1 score away in 3 games from having wins over top ten UGA, LSU, FSU, and Miami. I digress, OU didn’t deserve to go in 2003 and ironically y’all spanked them in 2004 when Auburn should’ve played you. I doubt auburn wins but still you get what it’s like

@@Sean-jb5gi Let us put that into context yes? Bama lost to the number one team in the country by a field goal and limited them to 9 points. OSU choked away a 24-7 lead to an unranked ISU and lost in overtime. Also if I remember correctly, Arkansas had 10 wins and was #3 at one point.
This was an incredible video man, so many great memories......by God that first LSU-Bama game was the most "SEC" game of all time! #DefenseWinsChampionships. Kudos, thanks for making this!!
I remember watching "the game of the century" with my family. We were all bored out of our minds. We really didn't care that it was number one vs number two, I don't care how many future NFL players this game had, and it's kind of hard to care at all when this game was ultimately pointless. Iowa State's upset of Oklahoma State essentially made the outcome of this game mean nothing. And to those of you who are probably tempted to say "go watch the Big 12 if you don't like defense," I do enjoy defense. I will never tire of seeing Jadeveon Clowney bulldoze Vincent Smith or Troy Polamalu pick-six Joe Flacco to send the Steelers to Super Bowl XLIII. But those games didn't end as 9-6 in overtime. Those games had more offense than field goals. Still, I'm glad this game happened. This was what got everybody on board that the BCS needed to go. Nobody outside of Tuscaloosa wanted to see those two teams play again. I've looked at multiple lists of the greatest games in college football history, even just of the 2010s. What do they all have in common? "The game of the century" was nowhere to be found. It makes me glad that so far, the college football playoff has almost always delivered great title games (except for OSU-Oregon in 2014). There's still a lot of kinks to be ironed out, but at least we're going in the right direction.
The entire point of opening the playoff up to 4 teams is to try and get the best 4 teams. In 2011 Alabama and LSU were the 2 best teams by a significant margin. If there had been a playoff they would have probably played in the championship game any way. Alabama would have still been the champion in 2011 with or without a playoff!
I think we're all forgetting that OSU lost after a plane crash killed 2 OSU coaches, which may have affected the other coaches, but resumes speak for themselves. As an OSU fan I understand why, but still don't like it.
Disagreed. While the atmosphere around campus was probably fairly somber for a little bit after the tragedy, it had zero bearing on them pissing away a lead to a team like Iowa State that they should have beat. I doubt a single one of them thought about the tragedy during the game, especially when things were getting close later on, seeing as the deceased were women's basketball coaches and not football coaches. They pissed away their chance to play for a NC and that's all there is to it, shit happens. Even their destruction of OU in the regular season finale was too little, too late given the opponent their loss was to compared to Alabama's. FYI, I say all this as a fan of none of the teams in this conversation - LSU, OSU, Alabama, or ISU - and by no means am I sullying the dead as what happened was indeed a tragedy, but it played zero part whatsoever in OSU losing that game, plain and simple.
+Brandon It doesn't matter that the deceased weren't football coaches. Those kids knew who they were. Plus, this is not the only plane crash tragedy to strike OSU. How do you know they weren't thinking of their own flight return to campus in the back of their minds? Maybe it had no conscious impact, but it's extremely naive and unlikely that it had none at all.
That year will always be one of the biggest what ifs in college football history. LSU had a GREAT defense. OSU had a GREAT offense with an opportunistic defense. I think the game wouldve been one of the most exciting national championship games in history. Blackmon couldnt be covered by anyone in college that year. I'll always look back at that year and feel a sense of sadness because had ou done what osu did, theres absolutely no question OU wouldve been in the natty. Having said that, that year propelled OSU into the national scene and they're still benefitting from it today
In 2011 I was 10 years old and rushed the field at Jack Trice Stadium with my father. 10 years later I rushed the field at 20 years old in my 3rd year as a a student at Iowa State. Thank you for the memories Oklahoma State :)
That’s a great story dude, I remember seeing the ISU upset when I was 8 on the tv, my immediate family and I were all hawk fans but were super happy for them. Little did Ik I’d be a freshman at ISU storming Jack trice in 2021. Here’s to a comeback season and more memories for Iowa state football!
They just value whatever is convenient for them per year to get the teams that they want in whether they deserve to be in or not. That's why the criteria is miraculously changing almost every single season
I agree. Oklahoma State had 5 wins over Top 25 teams that was ranked during the championship week in 2011 compared to Alabama’s 2. OK-State also had better quality wins than Bama.
@Bleed Orange yeah but 2 of those teams finished unranked. TAMU 7-6 and UT 8-5. I’ll agree y’all had better wins than Bama but LSU had one of the best resumes. Final AP poll LSU had wins over 1,4,5,17,19 3,13,24,26,32 points respectively. If we are just using ranked wins in total and not where they finished LSU beat 8 top 25 teams. 3,25,16,17,19,2,3,12 in that order. Bama beat 23,14,12,24 before playing LSU. Only one finished ranked in the final AP which was #5 Arkansas who only lost to LSU and Bama. It’s actually kind of eerie that LSU and Bama beat the same 6 SEC opponents by nearly the exact same score every time. Only a 9 point difference in total.
By what criteria? The BCS was always #1 vs #2, even back when Florida replayed FSU. There was never any rule or stipulation that the game couldn't be a rematch.
This wasn't a controversy. Alabama lost to the the #1 team in the country by 3 points after not giving up a TD. OSU lost to unranked Iowa St. Alabama won also after not letting LSU cross the 50 till the 4th Quarter. I'd say they picked the right teams.
I think that it’s because he’s getting older. 2020 is the worst for him. He’s slurring, hazy and struggling. Unfortunately I think he had another stroke. We probably won’t be seeing him come back to game day soon.
2011 Bama and LSU was just about as close to watching an NFL game as it ever got. These were the last true dominant defenses that we might ever see in college football now that the spread/RPO has taken over.
I am just going to leave this here... Oklahoma State and Stanford held their own destiny in their hand. They choked it away to a horrendous Iowa State team and to Oregon respectively. Alabama was clearly the best one lose team in the country.
Oh, that's a bunch of hogwash. For one thing, Oklahoma State played a far tougher road schedule than Alabama. The Cowboys played three "true" top 25 (by Simple Rating System) teams: A&M, Texas, and Missouri. Oklahoma State beat all 3. Alabama played ZERO "true" top 25 (SRS) teams on the road. The Cowboys also showed an ability to overcome adversity and dominate; against A&M they were down 20-3 at the half but outscored the Aggies 27-9 in the second half and 2 of those points were a safety Okie State gave up willingly in the final seconds. To put that in perspective, in the last FIFTY YEARS, only 5 national champs have played a road schedule as tough or tougher than 2011 Oklahoma State. That is, only 5 national champs have played 3 or more "true" top 25 teams on the road: 1982 Penn State (lost one), 1986 Penn State, 1988 Notre Dame, 1991 Washington, and 2001 Miami. So that includes 2 teams considered among the "greatest ever" and one that lost a game. Point being that tough road schedules are no joke. They're really hard and generally proof of a very good team if the team goes through them well. Alabama had their destiny in their hands, at home against LSU, and choked. Alabama also got luck on the road; down 3-0 early against Penn State (an average team at best) they went for a fake punt in their own territory, got stuffed badly, but got a ridiculous bailout first down spot from the refs. Alabama was able to gain the momentum after that. Oklahoma State got no such luck on the road. Iowa State went 6-6 in the regular season, by the way, which is far from "horrendous." On average, and especially on the road, Alabama played a weaker schedule than Okie State but SEC homerism carried the day and gave Saban a fake national title.
@@aaronrider4051 Lol just stop, your SEC/Alabama hatred is showing in full colors... Alabama finished the season with a top 15 SoS so stop acting like they did not play anyone. As far as the Penn St. game, I believe that Penn St. got a FG and then didn't score again until the 4th lol so saying "they were able to gain momentum after a bad ball spot" in the 1st quarter further shows your naivete. A loss to a 6-6 Iowa State team who barely beat an FCS team was much worse than by the #1 team by 3 points. SoS is not the end all be all when it comes to ranking teams. The 2011 Alabama team is regarded as one of the greatest football teams of all time especially when you look on the defensive side of the ball. It is even more impressive if you look back now and see how many of them went on to have NFL careers. Point remains the same, Ok state wins and they are in but the game that they lost was to a bad 6-6 team and that is what kept them out of the championship. 45 players from the Alabama - LSU game went on to play in the NFL (to put that in perspective only one other championship game in the history of college football has had more NFL talent on the field, the Ohio State/Miami game in 2003) so guess what? Despite your animosity towards the SEC it looks like the two best teams in college football did in fact play each other for the national championship...
@@Defiantllama14 Okay, first of all, using "NFL players" as a metric for grading the strength of a team is MORONIC. Otherwise we'd have to pretend a team like 2004 Penn State (loaded with great talent on defense but went 4-7) was a "great" team. Don't waste our time with that absolute crap. But, for the record, it isn't exactly like Justin Blackmon wasn't one of the finest college receivers you could ever see. Secondly, who the crap regards 2011 Alabama as one of the greatest teams ever? Not even for an iota of a second does that Alabama team belong in the same discussion as 1971 Nebraska, 1972 USC, 1991 Washington, or 2001 Miami. Thirdly, Michigan lost to Ohio State in 2006, just like Alabama lost to LSU. And that loss by Michigan was better than Florida's regular season loss. But I don't hear any of you SEC homers noticing the fact that it was wildly hypocritical to give Alabama a title shot if Michigan did not get one (note: I don't think Michigan deserved one). I also love how SEC homers trumpet SEC superiority then say things like you just said, about how SoS isn't the only thing that matters. What an absolutely idiotic thing to say. If you have two 11-1 teams, how else are you supposed to evaluate them than by how they played against their schedules? You want to keep avoiding the fact that Oklahoma State was better against a better schedule (Alabama did NOTHING as good as blowing out Oklahoma or Baylor like Okie State did). Good for you. Go waste your own time. And, finally, as for the Penn State game, if Penn State had been given the ball in Alabama territory in the spot in question, they put a lot more pressure on the Alabama offense which, with the bad call and ensuing TD, was able to play to its liking. On the road, that sort of thing is a big deal.
The coach says it himself. "With where we're at right now, Alabama lost to the number 1 team in the country, and Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State. In our situation, if I were doing it fair, I don't know how I could put us in front of them right now." Oklahoma State's own coach said that. What changed? Both teams won out from there. If Oklahoma State's own coach said he couldn't fairly put them ahead of Alabama, why are we still arguing about this? I get it, this wasn't the game people wanted, but that doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision.
And I know what people are going to say. Yes, Okie State's coach changed his mind after beating Oklahoma. That doesn't change who they lost to, or his initial reasoning.
This is a great soundbite too: "But after what we saw here tonight, there's no way anybody can vote a team better than what we looked at with the Crimson Tide." Oklahoma State didn't blow out Stanford. They won in OT after Stanford hooked a very makeable fg. Those 2 teams looked very even. Bama blew out LSU and proved it was the best team. It didn't win in another 9-6 OT game like the one in the regular season.
The one question nobody asked during all of this: what's fair? The only team a rematch favored was Alabama. They played one less game than LSU, lost at home with two weeks to prepare, and gave up over 300 rushing yards to Georgia Southern. Nobody asked if the rematch was fair to LSU or if it was fair to deny Oklahoma State a shot at the Tigers. Bama had their shot at home and blew it with poor coaching decisions by Saban who put his kicker in a position to miss four field goals. It was all to serve ESPN's agenda to create a playoff system we didn't need.
James Vineyard Nah it was needed,Ohio State was in the NC multiple times in the BCS Era,and in 03 there was controversy bc many ppl thought Oklahoma shouldn't have been in the NC after they lost the Big 12 championship to Kansas State. So yeah it was needed bad,but they should have atleast made it an 8 team playoff system.1-4,2-6,3-8,5-7 teams play in the quarterfinals, semi then the national championship.
To this day, I will always hold Meyer’s and Saban’s word, if you don’t win your conference, you don’t deserve a chance for the National Championship, Period. Alabama twice now, Ohio State got a playoff. Oklahoma got it in 2003 and even my team Nebraska in 2001. Sorry but we understand it, you must win your conference to have a shot to win the National Title, period end of discussion
Oklahoma St lost to an un-ranked team. Where’s the controversy? Yes I like the playoff system better, but when you’re talking about rankings, that has to be a factor.
The only reason it was controversial is because of the pathetic rank change OKST had after losing to ISU. Usually, if you are in the top 10 and lose to a bowl-ineligible team, you drop by about 5-10 spots. OKST dropped by 2, fucking 2. The boneheaded rank change is the only reason OKST had consideration.
Oklahoma State was robbed that kick was good, Brandon Weeden should have been hiesman trophy winner, LSU vs Oklahoma State should have been National Championship game
Regardless of whether you think it was good or not.. my god.. that was so close. I mean.. really? Most important FG of the College Football season and it's that damn close. The Gods above were toying with everyone.
Can someone explain why OK State should’ve been in? Alabama lost to #1 LSU. OK State lost to an unranked Iowa State. That is a huge difference. If LSU and Alabama were in different divisions they both would’ve both been in the conference championship. If you deserved to be there you should’ve beaten Iowa State. Period.
People also forget that Stanford, Boise St, and Houston also only had 1 loss. Then we had multiple 2 loss teams that were really good like Oregon, USC( on probation),Arkansas, Arkansas St, South Carolina, southern miss, TCU, Virginia tech, Wisconsin, and Kansas St end their regular season with only 2 losses. The more I reflect on the past seasons and the more I look at CFP today the more I realize that they should expand The CFP to 16 teams.
@@ChrisSizzly Pretty simple: divisions aren't always equal, nor are conferences. Do you honestly think the #1 Sun Belt team would beat the #2 SEC team?

Tyrann Mathieu was the single most dominant player I’ve ever seen. I include Joe Burrow in that conversation, too. Joe was amazing, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve never seen an undersized corner be such a game changing force. He was mesmerizing to watch and probably would have won the Heisman if he wasn’t hanging out with Jordan Jefferson so much.
2cool 4u shit LSU would have got their asses kick by Oklahoma State they was scared and wanted an easy game would u reather see a battle of the field goals game like they had with Alabama or a battle of the TOUCHDOWNS game they would have had with Oklahoma State
I will say this year would have been the PERFECT YEAR for a college playoff. Imagine #1 LSU vs. #4 Stanford and #2 Alabama vs. #3 Oklahoma. You would have offensive juggernauts matched up with defensive powerhouses. Would have made perfect sense that season.
@@meowmeow7900 The crash and loss of life were indeed tragic and painful. Still Okla St. ran out to a 3-score lead in the second half. The Pokes were obviously focused on the game but somehow collapsed against a team they should have beaten handily.
@@robotunes I don't mean to indicate the reason they lost was the tragedy, just that it was not just some we showed up normally type of loss. It was a trap game if there ever was one. An away game on a Friday night, short week, with other drama going on an opponent you can take for granted and worry more about future issues as opposed to the current situation.
Bottom line is LSU and Alabama were the 2 best teams that year. OSU would have been beaten pretty bad by LSU. There was such a huge gap between talent wise and team wise between Bama and OSU.
6 years later we have a playoff, an undefeated team that wasn't invited, and two SEC teams again. Just what the Playoff was supposed to solve. 😒 #Rigged
How so? Oklahoma State lost to an unranked Iowa State in overtime. Alabama lost to the #1 team in overtime. If they lost to someone else that was top 10 earlier in the season, they should’ve got in.
I don’t see what the controversy is. You can’t lose to a dumpster fire team like Iowa State and expect to play for the big one. The two best teams were picked to play that season.
How do you lose to Iowa state and expect to be in the National champions at least Alabama lost to LSU the #1 team in the nation ok sate didn’t get screwed
FBI ehhhh.... they played one more big game then Alabama and have 3 more wins over ranked teams. People seem to think losses to non ranked teams mean everything, but they forget its college football everyone is good.
Alabama didn't even win their division to play for the conference title. OSU was a conference champion. This will always be Bama's illegitimate BCS title.
I think that while Oklahoma State would not have beaten LSU, they still deserved the OPPORTUNITY more than Alabama did, with Alabama having lost to LSU at home that same season, and with Oklahoma State showing just how good they can be with their win over Oklahoma.

Oklahoma St losing to Iowa St was probably one of the biggest upsets of all time cuz all they had to do was win that agne
No Kansas state and Baylor 2012
Appalachian State over Michigan still pretty #1 tho
And because of that double overtime loss, LSU had to play Alabama again. You don't want to play Nick Saban twice and Les Miles was complacent. But I have some confidence that LSU would have beaten Oklahoma State since they beat either 4 or 5 of the top 10 teams in the country. And if they had done that, they would be considered the greatest team of all time. I liked the bcs because it was a challenge to get to a bowl game but now 6-6 north Texas can play 7-5 Louisiana tech in the cactus bowl
The actual computer system had OK state 2nd. why even have the bcs if the other polls matter more
Because, dumbass, lots of #2 teams in the human polls got snubbed in the final game.

And Alabama is still dominating ROLL TIDE ROLL
Alabama was better than Oklahoma state that it doesn’t matter what the people want the best 2 teams should be in the championship and they were
I think we're all forgetting that OSU lost after a plane crash killed 2 OSU coaches, which may have affected the other coaches, but resumes speak for themselves. As an OSU fan I understand why, but still don't like it.
T W agreed
+T W I agree. Plus their loss was on the road at night. Bama's loss was at home.
Poke fans make more excuses than any other fan base in the entire world
That year will always be one of the biggest what ifs in college football history.
Levi Lively dude it’s so annoying how hard they suck ou’s peen just because of tradition. And your right Justin was amazing that season
In 2011 I was 10 years old and rushed the field at Jack Trice Stadium with my father. 10 years later I rushed the field at 20 years old in my 3rd year as a a student at Iowa State. Thank you for the memories Oklahoma State :)
both years that we were good too!
That’s a great story dude, I remember seeing the ISU upset when I was 8 on the tv, my immediate family and I were all hawk fans but were super happy for them. Little did Ik I’d be a freshman at ISU storming Jack trice in 2021. Here’s to a comeback season and more memories for Iowa state football!
i remember watching this when i was like 4 with my dad. one of my best isu memories
What I don't get is that voters valued better losses over better wins
A Mo osu played in a shit big 12
They just value whatever is convenient for them per year to get the teams that they want in whether they deserve to be in or not. That's why the criteria is miraculously changing almost every single season
I agree. Oklahoma State had 5 wins over Top 25 teams that was ranked during the championship week in 2011 compared to Alabama’s 2. OK-State also had better quality wins than Bama.
@Bleed Orange yeah but 2 of those teams finished unranked. TAMU 7-6 and UT 8-5. I’ll agree y’all had better wins than Bama but LSU had one of the best resumes. Final AP poll LSU had wins over 1,4,5,17,19
3,13,24,26,32 points respectively.
@@INoticeTooMuch1 finally someone who does their faq checks
Bad decision by a flawed system. It's hard to beat a team twice. This rematch should've never happened.
By what criteria? The BCS was always #1 vs #2, even back when Florida replayed FSU. There was never any rule or stipulation that the game couldn't be a rematch.
Oklahoma state shoulda got in with that beat down of Oklahoma. Bama just got to rest up
@@BobPapadopoulos FSU never replayed UF in the BCS era, genius. The BCS premiered in 1998/99. The FSU/UF rematches were in 1994/95 and 1996/97.
This wasn't a controversy. Alabama lost to the the #1 team in the country by 3 points after not giving up a TD. OSU lost to unranked Iowa St. Alabama won also after not letting LSU cross the 50 till the 4th Quarter. I'd say they picked the right teams.
7:15 man I miss when Lee Corso could add to the show and now all he does is stumble over words and grab Kirks arm
Thank god someone else notices him grabbing Kirk constantly 😂it’s awkward af
@@Defiantllama14
Okay, first of all, using "NFL players" as a metric for grading the strength of a team is MORONIC.
In our situation, if I were doing it fair, I don't know how I could put us in front of them right now."
Oklahoma State's own coach said that. What changed? Both teams won out from there. If Oklahoma State's own coach said he couldn't fairly put them ahead of Alabama, why are we still arguing about this? I get it, this wasn't the game people wanted, but that doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision.
Chase McCown it just proves how strong the hate for the tide is
And I know what people are going to say. Yes, Okie State's coach changed his mind after beating Oklahoma. That doesn't change who they lost to, or his initial reasoning.
This is a great soundbite too: "But after what we saw here tonight, there's no way anybody can vote a team better than what we looked at with the Crimson Tide."
Oklahoma State didn't blow out Stanford. They won in OT after Stanford hooked a very makeable fg. Those 2 teams looked very even. Bama blew out LSU and proved it was the best team. It didn't win in another 9-6 OT game like the one in the regular season.
Chase McCown Well they absolutely destroyed Oklahoma and actually won their conference. Not to mention the better overall resume.
Chase McCown And Osu supposedly missed a very makable field goal to lose to Iowa St. Stay consistent.
I've never seen worse ridiculous kicking in history.
oklahoma st shouldve still been in despite losing to iowa st they had more impressive wins and won their conference
Field goal kicking was brutal this year
The one question nobody asked during all of this: what's fair?
Damn I felt that when he said we need a playoff
22:55 Damn he really just called that
To this day, I will always hold Meyer’s and Saban’s word, if you don’t win your conference, you don’t deserve a chance for the National Championship, Period. Alabama twice now, Ohio State got a playoff. Oklahoma got it in 2003 and even my team Nebraska in 2001.
Sorry but we understand it, you must win your conference to have a shot to win the National Title, period end of discussion
Saban never said that. It's been proven wrong.
Same with Notre Dame this year
@@RadicallyOptimistic they didn’t make the championship
So one loss can end it?
@John Hoyle send me the video of him saying it. Not the link to that one article of he said she said that no one's even confirmed
Oklahoma St lost to an un-ranked team. Where’s the controversy? Yes I like the playoff system better, but when you’re talking about rankings, that has to be a factor.
Oklahoma State had 5 top 25 wins. Alabama had 2. The BCS chose a better loss over better wins. That's the controversy.
@Primal Cookie no they had 3 top 25 wins.
Two of those finished 7-6 and 8-5.
Oklahoma state was blowing everybody out

Didn’t losses from Kansas State and Baylor factor in as well? Or was that the next season?

Oklahoma State was robbed that kick was good, Brandon Weeden should have been hiesman trophy winner, LSU vs Oklahoma State should have been National Championship game
Timothy Wilson You’re right, Sharp did make that FG.

Same way Williams caught that pass in the first Bama LSU game in the video. Bama won that game and woulda held #1 the whole season
Field goal was wide right bud, don’t know what you’re looking at. Either Iowa State claps checks and Okie State got cucked.
Alabama’s defense was nasty in that national championship game. They woulda spanked anyone that night
Iowa State has been paying for that loss for 6 years, and they’re still paying for it.
carto0ndude not really
Can someone explain why OK State should’ve been in? Alabama lost to #1 LSU. OK State lost to an unranked Iowa State. That is a huge difference. If LSU and Alabama were in different divisions they both would’ve both been in the conference championship. If you deserved to be there you should’ve beaten Iowa State. Period.
I love these videos
People also forget that Stanford, Boise St, and Houston also only had 1 loss. Then we had multiple 2 loss teams that were really good like Oregon, USC( on probation),Arkansas, Arkansas St, South Carolina, southern miss, TCU, Virginia tech, Wisconsin, and Kansas St end their regular season with only 2 losses. The more I reflect on the past seasons and the more I look at CFP today the more I realize that they should expand The CFP to 16 teams.
At least I can say Conference Champion means nothing to either BCS or CFP Committee
Alex Binkley because it shouldn't it should be the best teams not the best teams to win their conference
Ty Calvert How can you call yourself the best as a non conference champ? You can't.
Alex Binkley The conference championship should be the top two teams in the conference not who’s east west north or south

Although it would have been cool to see Oklahoma State in the BCS, the bowl scores showed that they made the correct choice when putting Alabama in.
Do you have anymore of these types of videos
Oklahoma State: Yeah, 5-4 Iowa State outscored us 30-7 in the second half and overtime, but we were still the 2nd-best team in the nation.
