Nick and Lex, Thank You for playing this song. The Pat Metheny Group is one of the greatest musical groups of all-time. I’ve been listening to Pat since January, 1979. The thing I love most about PMG is the joy that bubbles up through their music. This song is one of them. I would love to hear you review the song “The First Circle” from the album “First Circle” which came out in 1984. I think you both would love it. The song’s time signature is 22/8, believe it or not. 👏🏻

(I've shared this story on other channels)
When the Pat Metheny Group came to my college campus in 1980, a friend at the time got me a ticket. I was absolutely amazed by the musical performance I had just witnessed. After that concert, I was in like the mob. Musically, I felt a bit like an outsider with my passion for Metheny, since most folks in my circle of work colleagues & friends were die hard rock and rollers. Metheny remained my go to music and for the next 5 years I still felt in a small minority for knowing and liking his music. Then, when I pushed the play button on the cassette player in my apartment for background music on a first date, As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls came on. I was flabbergasted when my date named the song / album! She was beautiful, smart, loving and she knew who Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays were! Fast fwd 36 years later and this incredible person, who has accompanied me to PM concerts over 3 decades, the mother of our two amazing sons and the love of my life, turns to me this winter and says: Pat Metheny at the Kennedy center in June? Just like 36 years ago - she had me at "Pat Metheny".

Almost every compositions from this group had Lyle Mays as the co-composer. Not only that he is equally to be credited but in fact, it just wouldn't be the Pat Metheny Group sound without Lyle. This fact is almost always neglected or ignored but it is important to note that Lyle Mays was very much a huge part of the Metheny sound. I never mention Pat Metheny without mentioning Lyle Mays. Oh and Lyle is the pianist on this as he has always been since their first collaboration back in 1977. When Lyle left the group and left the music business back in 2005, the Pat Metheny Group as we know it couldn't exist anymore.

    The 1st half,
You guys really touch my heart. So did this 1st time listen for me, you 2 were my "emotions" being pulled by this beautiful music.
I think when 1st hearing Pats music, I wasn't ready. Its like Nick has said in the past, we were both into our heavier music and _that_ particular emotion, and what the musicians (for me, guitarists and drummers) were doing that were so intriguing. It was "other" types of music that were starting to help me notice all the subtleties, which made me even notice MORE in the heavier and progressive rock music. But I finally understood the more eclectic, atmospheric music that was made for kicking back and letting it flow over you.
I could see Lexi becoming teary-eyed, and Nick lost in the ebb and flow of the music, and meeting his emotions with Lex, many times one or the other were lost in the music, while the other glances over and smiles ^_^.
    2nd half,
Lexi is soo right, it does sound like a Holiday track (a "Seasons End" addition? wink wink), ready for a late Fall, early Winter feel.
That was really awesome, already added it to a playlist (guess which one Lex? Not the Seasons one ;). But it got me thinking of a few you should listen to . . .
    1. Devin Townsend Project "Ghost" (see the CD I gave you and the reaction suggestions)
    2. Casualties of Cool (a Devin Townsend "project" side band that is again, very different for him)
    3. Blackfield (yet another Steve Wilson side project and collaboration)
    4. Opeth "Damnation" (again, checkout the reaction suggestions for your CD :).
    5. Tuesday the Sky (a side project from guitarist Jim Matheos of Fates Warning, showing his eclectic side, mostly instrumentals)
Tracks from each of these will make you weep.
    - Thank you for the beautiful reaction and music :).

I'd suggest his tune off his break-out 1976 album "Milton" , "Francisco". Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock played on this album. On "Francisco" It's just Milton on guitar& vocals and Herbie on piano. Hi guys
May I request a band that I don't think you two have ever reacted to? I'm a bit stunned that you never have, actually, because this band is the very roots of "prog". The band is The Moody Blues. Their core period was from 1967-1972. They released 7 masterpiece concept albums during that time, and while their music is not totally "prog", the roots are there. Without them, there may have been no King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Genesis, etc... if you get this comment, and wish to begin your descent down The Moody Blues rabbit hole, may I suggest, in order:
"The Night (with Late Lament)" basically just the long LP version of "Nights In White Satin."
    "Question"
    "Legend of a Mind"
    "Out and In"
    "Land of Make Believe"
    "Candle of Life"
    "Watching and Waiting"
    "Gypsy"
    "Have You Heard/Voyage/Have You Heard-2"
    "Isn't Life Strange"
    "Ride My See-Saw"
    "Tuesday Afternoon"
    "Voices In The Sky"
    "Story In Your Eyes"
    For starters........
I would love to know what you think of this amazing band whose music is quite transcending, cerebral, pastoral, mystical, and spiritually therapeutic all at once.✌❤🙏
    Thanks guys.

Yea I've always wondering what inspires their music is it dreams, imagination, life rhythms (everyday sounds of human beings and their contraptions wherever they may be), nature or watching people or whatever and a musical soundtrack begins to develop in one's head. Could it be all of these combined or random combinations at different times? Especially when they raise the bar many levels and bring in Richard Bona or Pedro Aznar it becomes a celestial experience. OH! almost forgot THANKS Nick n' Lex for reacting to PMG, Lyle Mays you are the first I've found and I've been with you for almost a year now. Be well

For me it is a kind of prayer where in the course of it we present God all our more or less twisted paths but His loving and patient listening makes us getting free from all pains and ascend more and mor toward His graceful Presence.

I really enjoy your channel, and all of your reactions to great songs from a lot of the artists I grew up with! Pat and Lyle, are my favorite musicians, and have seen them numerous times. What you hear on the album, they duplicated , and surpassed live! Missing Lyle, as well as Mark Ledford. I would like to request you listen to “To the end of the World “ from “We Live Here”. Keep up the great listening!

This is what music should be. Make you feel love, loss, heartache. There is only two artists that has the ability to paint pictures in my mind and heart : Pink Floyd and Pat Metheny. Their music is spiritual to me, and that says a lot me being atheist. I love Pat Metheny so much ❤

I haven't even watched the video yet (so my apologies), but I got all excited that you're doing more Pat Metheny, and I wanted to throw in a suggestion: I don't think you've hit The Pat Metheny Group ("white") album, and it's pretty amazing straight through in a way that I think will really resonate with both of you. The first two tracks that make up "Side 1" (when it was vinyl), San Lorenzo and Phase Dance, are kind of brilliant compositions, I'd just start with San Lorenzo and see where that leads you. Alright, will be watching this one momentarily.

I am so happy you did this song. It truly is one of Pat’s best ballads. To all those wondering, singer Richard Bona is not singing words but melodic notes. The dialect here is from the country of Cameroon. NicknLex, you asked the question about other Metheny songs, and whether you should “jump right in?” Yes…and no… Yes in that you have just peeled back the curtain and more yummy goodness awaits you. But I want to throw out another point… there is something magical about studying Pat’s music. These songs are complex. I could tell this song really hit you guy. With most music, there’s nothing like the very first listen. Except for Pat. The most you study the parts, the more wonderful it will be. The grand architecture has yet to reveal itself. So yes, discover more Pat, but realize you need to come back to these songs. “You” is one of my all time favorites. I had it performed at my wedding. For those interested in this song and this album, you can hear Pat talk about these matters on my UA-cam channel. We spent a good amount of time talking about this song. Thank you guys so much for this video. One of your best!
