  • It is difficult to find a rooftop cargo basket for the Jeep Wrangler 2-door that does not require drilling, a cage, or removal of the rooftop. This video shows the unboxing and installation of the Barricade rooftop cargo basket and brackets for the Jeep Wrangler JK/JKU/JL. It requires no drilling, can be done by one person using standard tools, and can easily be removed and placed on another vehicle. It can carry up to 150 lbs and with the JKU 4-door Jeep the T-top can be removed without removing the basket. The instructions state that this project can be completed in 45 minutes, but for a non-mechanical novice like me it took one day. This cargo basket will be useful to free up space in the Jeep by carrying fuel, spare tire, recovery equipment and soft, lightweight items.
DUE TO WEIGHT LIMITATIONS, THIS IS NOT TO BE USED FOR A ROOFTOP TENT!!

I just installed this today. The directions provided were terrible, so I pretty much threw them away and used this video. Thanks for the detailed video it helped a lot!

I am humbled. The video was made so that those looking for a cargo basket for the 2-door could decide if this was the correct one for them. Since then, I have added a wire mesh to the base of the basket so that small items would not fall through. Glad it helped.

Thanks! I had forgotten about this video. I still have the cargo basket in place and it has never needed retightening and since I rarely get caught in the rain, no rust. Comes in handy for carrying extra fuel and gear.

Great work! I have been looking for a good roof rack for my 2 door JK.

The makers of the racks for the JK 2-d00r must have finally listened, since you have many more choices now. I especially like the Rhino Rack for 2-door. They did not make one when I purchased mine. So far I am satisfied with mine. I did add a wire fence grate over mine to hold small items. So far works well. No rust, but I live in the desert, keep the JK under cover, and rarely wash the top.

Thanks. Very satisfied. Easy to remove if needed. Have modified it to attach an awning and hold a shovel and hi-lift jack. With a 150 lb load capacity could also carry a second spare tire. Some whistling noise above 35 mph, but I have gotten used to it and is no longer an issue.

I have one ordered should be here Friday. Plan on putting max trax and 3.5 gallon Rotopax in it. May also put shovel and ax up there. Really enjoyed your video. Be safe.

Have you had any issue with the rear window leaking since it would seem that the bracket you put behind the hinges would push everything forward a bit?
Also, have you been happy with the performance of the basket?

    • @H.pylori

Strange you should ask. I just completed a trip to the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Not a real rough ride, but much washboard roads and dips. As for the basket, I used it to carry my MAXTRAX, a folding table for camp, and my bedding foam pads and an assortment of lightweight camp bags in a KEEPER WATERPROOF ROOFTOP BAG. All went well, the basket connections remained secure and not rattles. In fact, with the Keeper in place there was even less wind noise than before. I like the cargo basket for what it was intended, to get some of the camping gear out of the inside of the Jeep.
Your other question was interesting and I had not considered it. The Wildlife Refuge is in a basin which was an ancient lake bed so that there is an abundance of alkali dust and mud (calcium carbonate and dolomite) that became plastered all over the Jeep. So your question about the rear window stimulated me to wash and clean the Jeep today. Using a pressure washer to get the hard and caked on alkali off, I specifically aimed it at and slightly above the rear window edge. What I did notice was that the water seemed to drain around the window edge at the top and came out at the bottom sides of the window. Then, when I opened the back door gate and raised the window, much to my surprise, everything was dry!! The puffy part of the rubber seal prevents leakage when the window is closed. Then the other part of the seal creates a channel that directs water around the window edge and out the bottom.
SHORT ANSWER: NO LEAK. Hope this answers your question.

Hi RG, thanks for you the video. Have you noticed any rusting? I saw some reviews of the basket that mentioned that.

    • @H.pylori
      @H.pylori  3 роки тому +1

Hello to you! Because you asked, I got up from computer and went outside to check. I have no rust at all, but my JEEP has been under cover when not used and has never been in the rain. Dust, yes, but I rarely wash the top of the vehicle, and the Nevada sun in the summer evaporates moisture quickly. Also I have never gone over deep streams. So short answer is not rust for me, but the other comments may be true if they regularly expose their JEEPS to inclement weather like snow, ice, and rain. Hope this helps. Since I bought mine the manufacturers must have listened since now you have many other choices. Even Rhino Rack now has one for the 2-door JK.

Do not believe so. You could use after market cargo baskets with roof top cages over a soft top. But check this out: www.quadratec.com/products/11119_0237_07.htm

@@toddleach7974 Hi, that is correct. It works on both 2 door and 4 door. Hopefully this is the link that I provided: www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-removable-hard-top-roof-basket-0717-jk.html?XT%20Exterior%20-%20Racks%20and%20Storage%7CBarricade&T5_Var4=J116279&intl=0&XTW+Wrangler+Vehicle+Medium&dialogtech=ppc&T5_Var2=shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI59mgu4_a5wIVaB-tBh09fAHjEAQYASABEgJ0dPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Which leads to Extreme Terrain website. They even have a video showing how to assemble the device. Since the video I have also inserted a piece of 4 inch by 4 inch galvanized steel fencing (like they use in outdoor horse corrals) into the base of the basket in order to be able to tie down smaller objects. So far I have used it for my MaxTraxx, extra fuel for car and stove (don't want that stuff inside) and bedding and tools. This is no drill and easy to remove. Also has low profile for parking garages.
