  • On day 3 of our mountain bike trip we head to Stanley Gap, starting from the south side. We also add in the Flat Creek loop...it was a great day of riding!

    Manley Gap indeed, Clint. It was even tough on my ebike - hats off to you and Dawson for riding it on regular bikes!

    Hey Clint, curious how you rode this. Did you go up Stanley Gap, do Flat Creek as a loop then back down Stanley? I'm up here now and planning to ride it soon, so any help you can provide would be appreciated.

      Yeah, for that one I think we started at the dirt road and went up to flat creek, did a loop and then back down to where we started.

      I go from one parking lot up, down to the other parking lot, turn around and then go back. I usually start on the Blue ridge side. Then I do flat Creek after that. Sometimes go to Green Mountain and do that trail.

    I rode this trail with my father. . . We both didn't "make it:" the whole way up. That bomb into Aska was SOOOOOOOOOO worth it, though. . . .

    Is this ride doable without a suspension bike? Assuming you're riding full sus? Got an old school mtb with no suspension. I'm a big fan of the master artist as well :)

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому

      Yes. You'll need to take it slower on the rockier sections and be deliberate about your line, but definitely doable.

    Clint, great video with your son. Does the enduro bike have better traction b/c of the wider, knobbier tires, or b/c it’s heavier?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому

      Wider tires and more suspension travel. Also the slacker angles make it more stable when conditions get a bit sketchy.

    Amazing how better a 29er is at stabilizing itself, compared to a 26, when you have a slip, slide or knock your bars. Feels like the rotational weight just about rights the bike by itself. Looks like your guardian angel was floating just ahead of you gong down flat creek.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому

      This bike is super stable as a 29er but the Geo makes it very maneuverable. Super impressed with this bike.

    • @flyingnorseman
      @flyingnorseman 4 роки тому

      I have a 2014 Transition Bandit 29er. They do make great bikes. We usually take 100mm travel bikes up there. Better climbing but some of the downhill chunk is too much for them.

    Very pretty! Squirrels very active around those parts this time of year. Amazing how much they rattle me, darting around the trail. You get a little more warm up before hitting the massive, steep climbs, if you park at the northern trailhead.
