The Box Step-Up

  • The box step up is similar in mechanics to any lunging variation. The athlete must use the strength of one leg to elevate themselves. The higher the box, the greater the demand on both strength and flexibility. Although often used as a scaled version of the box jump, the step-up can provide a challenge to even the most advanced athletes.

    I wish everybody starts understanding how impactful this movement is to every level. Obvious reasons: after time implementing this exercise to workouts you can eliminate strength and stamina imbalances between the feet, improve single leg and overall stability & balance, increase strength and stamina. Especially on lower heights it's great for warm up and safer for new trainees + the different modalities and variations of this exercise and up a novice's fitness pretty quickly as it will be more impactful on the C.N.S. and better for its simple everyday functions

    There is something wrong here. She goes up with alternating legs, but always goes down with the right side leg. =\

      Gustavo I think always going down on either left or right is fine.

      I would go up and down with the same leg each rep. Right up. Right down. Left up. Left down. Repeat.

    Hay que hacer un tutorial del tutorial xD. Tiene un error, el movimiento, tanto para subir como para bajar, es con piernas alternas, es decir, subo con pierna izquierda y bajo con la derecha, subo con la derecha y bajo con la izquierda.

    There’s been debate in our gym about the ROM on these.
    Some say the leg that steps up must finish the extension, prior to the opposite leg standing on the box.
    Others say the leg that is on the ground can assist with the step up as it reaches the box.
    Either way you show your hip extension on the top. Alternate legs, yada yada.
    Question is: does the leg that is on the box have to basically do a pistol squat - showing full hip extension, before the opposite leg can stand on the box…

    does the rulebook says it is forbidden to step down with the same leg ? Alternance is maybe required just for the ascent.

      Eso no es obligación. Digamos.. se hace para entrenar de forma pareja las piernas. Podes subir 10 veces con una y 10 con otra si te gusta.. no cambia nada.

    We just used it to get a little moderate stepping everyday. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxgAz8z9Y03AXTl_xgiCmYWfRKpnpW8nYG But after a family member had some medical issues and getting into bed and out of bed (with a really high 28” above the floor matress ) we added a little fluorescent glow in the dark tape to the edges and they now can get into and out of bed safely! What a difference this little stepper has made for them. and we still use it for daily moderate exercise routine also.
