    High friend, I have just started my journey of growing my own mushrooms, and with the help of the educational materials you provide I feel fairly confident that I will be successful. I am wondering however what you mist your tub with? Or what you recommend to mist with; more specifically I’m asking if your using water and if so is it distilled water, filtered water, sink water, hose water, toilet water(meant to be funny), etc . I’m on day 5 so far and no condensation. I believe it’s because of the winter weather present right now but I am trying to keep my tubs at recommended temperatures via your advice. Thank you for all the advice and educational materials you provide for everyone who wants to grow their own garden🌱

      I just use tap water. Don't add too much humidity just a light condensation on the walls of the tub. You don't want to stall the tub. Thank you! 💜

    I accidentally ripped a hole in my spawn bag so I switched it to a Mason jar and made a lid the only free jar I had was blue glass the mycelium grew sooo much faster than the other spawn bag I didn't mess up this is only my 1st try so I can't say for sure it's the blue glass but I would imagine the more red spectrum light probably turns more blue that's my theory at least to anybody that has a blue Mason jar laying around and can pressure cook it it may be worth giving a try and see if it works for you too

    So, it said along the bottom of the screen that you can substitute the inflatable monotub for a 66qt monotub. Is your bulk recipe for 2 x inflatables the same as for 2 x 66qt? Or will you need to adjust the quantities to make more?

    • @BoomerShroomer

    Some tips Ive learned:
    -beware any open room where the AC blows into(at night use a flashlight in the dark...all those jillions of dots-dust are floating around at any given time & needless to say contamination spores are among them)
    -good non AC rooms include room closets, bathrooms, sunrooms, etc
    -creating a thin out layer of substrate(bottom, sides, & top) & using a lasagna style method of filling your tub can help avoid contamination(you still want to mix the spawn with the substrate you place on top of it)
    -remember that contamination tends to occur on exposed nutrients(in this particular recipe, the grain spawn is the primary concern & later theres a possibility of it happening on aborted mushrooms left but not nearly as high a risk & also the mycelium often turns those white & adds them back into the network if you let your substrate rest & dry out for 2-3 days after a harvest)
    -using higher ratios of grain spawn = faster colonization & more full canopy harvests(but you will have less water in your substrate to make big healthy fruiting bodies); also youre more likely to completely dry out your subtrate before you run out of nutrients to create more flushes unless you find a sweet spot ratio(most swear by 1(spawn):3(substrate)...any lesser amount of substrate is a very high spawn ratio & everything more in substrate is a high substrate ratio)
    -user higher ratios of substrate = slower colonization & less full canopy harvests which is easier to manage(you can access the shrooms easier without tearing away at the substrate & the less damage you do to the substrate during harvest is always better) but it CAN also lead to bigger fruits due to them having more space to grow & more water(& depending on how much spawn you used, it can mean more flushes of harvest)
    -sterilized used coffee grains is a great nitrogen enriching supplement which mushrooms love(i place them in the center of the substrate to avoid contam since contam spores love them too..id use about 100 grams of it per individual tub; would NOT put it in the bucket recipe because once mixed, it could end up exposed leading to faster contamination of your tub despite it being sterilized so you really wanna keep it buried INSIDE the substrate)
    -if you use a clear tub & a clear liner, you can check for colonization quicker as well as observe signs of contam via lifting your tub & seeing whats going on at the bottom & the sides
    -note that used coffee grains are better than fresh because they lose alot of the acidity which mycelium doesnt like...harvest your used coffee grains quickly after brewing & keep them in the freezer otherwise mold will thrive on & in them in mere hours...also be sure to sterilize them in a pot or pressure cooker for 2 hours or so before finally using them to make sure all such spores are dead because yes, all harvested coffee beans-grounds tend to have such spores in them & better you sterilize than pastuerize in said case due to their high nutrients
    -light does NOT cause side pinning but the extra humidity the crags of your tub gets via water dripping down the walls into the crags where a micro climate is causing more evaporation as well as sustaining damp humid conditions
    -mushrooms dont need light...they bruise, dry out & die in direct sunlight & dont use photosynthesis at all to make potency nor any of the misinformation people spread; light also doesnt help with pinning, all light does it guide the fruiting bodies as to which direction they should attempt to grow towards AFTER pinning via proper humidity & sufficient nutrients(in other words light tells them which direction they should drop their spores once they are full grown however mushrooms thrive in dark damp places & have all they need to create their potency in the dark)
    -I NEVER lift my lid to fan(blowing possible contamination into the tub); there is enough FAE via 99% of filters on the tub designs people use..if anything, some tubs have too much FAE which drops the humidity levels...a better way to start pinning is to remember the many tubs youve seen with jillions of side pins...those sides werent getting more FAE but they had micro climates that were more humid & wet than the surface which is why the mycelium chose to pin there 99% of the time; so recreate that for your surface via creating a microclimate in which everything under it(a very small tight space) will be more wet & humid than the vast space above it; this is best done via using sheets of wax paper & gently laying them over the substrate after you lightly mist it; after a few days youll know how long it takes for the mist to fully evaporate...you want to lift the wax paper & remist BEFORE its fully dried but not so often that you begin to pool alot in the craters(slight pooling is ok if you notice it evaporates in a few hours);
    -this extra micro climate with greater humidity will cause pins to show up in 2-3 days almost every time you use it & the fruiting bodies grow faster as well with these tarps of wax paper above them; no need to fan nor waste energy hoping & expecting, just simply remist on schedule & set & forget it...if you mist a bit past schedule, no problem but if you mist too much, also no problem simply take a longer break in the future to give it more time to evaporate; once you have nice size fruiting bodies, youll find the tub enjoys alot more mist because itll absorb it alot quicker so do give them what they want
    -fuzzy feet seldom ever meant low FAE but almost always means the mushrooms are aborting or soon to abort due to something which usually is bad growing conditions which usually means not enough humidity hence give them way more misting & take note how quickly they dry out now that theres so many water absorbing fruiting bodies rapidly growing in your tub; also they get fuzzy feet after you pick one & the rest get a signal to stop growing as the mycelium attempts to not waste anymore energy-nutrients on mushrooms they assume are all going to soon get picked thus spreading spores(so why should they waste limited nutrient reserves on said mushrooms is basically how theyre made to factor).
    -last, after each harvest, give your tub 2-5 days to rest, dry out a tiny bit, & consolidate...this allows it time to retake some of the leftover pins, heal gaps in the substrate you made during harvest, & access how much nutrients it has left...after the 2-5 days it will either start pinning all on its own or you should mist it super good & then slowly get back to adding the wax paper micro climate method while remisting; keep in mind that the more wet substrate is, the longer it takes for mycelium to colonize & consolidate with it so dont underestimate the benefits of allowing the substrate to dry back down to field capacity or even dryer as it is very beneficial & can save you time; also dont doubt the power of misting being able to effectively rehydrate the substrate(more times than not, a tub is going to stop providing nice size flushes from low nutrient issues, not via low water reserves)
    -one more tip, just because you CAN fruit before your substrate is super white & consolidated doesnt mean you should...if you fruit BEFORE its consolidate, your fruits can grow in weird shapes & usually break their veils at way smaller fruiting bodies however a nice fully colonized tub will look like Boomer Shroomer's(like a snow field) & its when it looks like that when you get the best sized fruits it can provide based on the factors of space, water, humidity, & nutrients
    -another great tip in the colonizing stage is to not worry about your substrate drying out because again, the dryer the substrate is after being field capacity, the quicker it will colonize & consolidate & you know it consolidated when its super white & theres a tiny gap between the substrate & the tub due to it shrinking & tightening up into a more firm but still pretty gentle cake; so just let that slight air exchange happen during colonizing & notice the more dry it gets, the faster it colonizes & the more colonized it is, the faster it should be able to reach uncolonize substrate(UNLESS that substrate is very wet...casings for example take a long time to colonize if you add them AFTER colonization & keep them very wet which is their purpose as they too create micro climates of high humidity but I mush prefer the cleaner easier to observe & regulate method of using sheets of wax paper)

    I've had problems before with my substrate drying out really quickly. Only fanning once a day for 10-15 seconds will definitely help that. Do you keep fanning after pinning?

    is vermiculite and gypsum actuall required or can we just use coco coir?

    Hey I have my first grow going in an AIO and it's about 75% colonized but started pinning already and I have no idea what to do any suggestions?

    Question: do you continue to fan the mushrooms through the entire fruiting process? Or is there a ‘rule of thumb’ for when it doesn’t require the fanning anymore?

    How long can you store the cloned mushroom ie the agar mycelium before it needs to be used to populate another spawn bag? Seems like the easiest way to keep your genetics if its stable for a decent amount of time

    Does this bulk substrate work for mushrooms that are stricktly wood loving? Or should I use woodchips instead

    I air dry mine then use a dry box with anhydrous, calcium sulfate as a desiccant after drying with the fan for 1-4 days depending on the natural humidity where drying do to Michigan

      Note using a desiccant I was able to store for years and still save potency and come up the bag still cracker dry

    oh great, i dont actually need a pressure cooker anymore!
    question: if i put the cap of a mushroom on foil and after 24h i dont see a spore print, does that mean i harvested the mushroom too late?

    The only place in my house that I can grow would be downstairs in my finished basement. The only issue is that it has wall to wall carpeting (except the bathroom). What do you recommend?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  18 днів тому +1

      You can put a piece of plastic down where the tubs are going to be. Then if there is anything in the carpet it won't come up when you are walking around them.
