  • Here is my review of the Qin Dynasty tribute from Hongdian with steel nib. I look at the red and green versions. There are 4 trims that I have seen. But only found with F nib where I got them from. I welcome any questions.

I enjoy pens that look like they can serve as movie props. They make great reception desk pens to let the public know they are dealing with a force of nature 😊 These are very beautiful imho

Thank you for this presentation. Very pleasant and useful for judging the appearance of different plating options.
By the way, the name of the paper brand is Clairefontaine, not Clairfontain.

I fell in love with this pen at first sight. I was disappointed that it wasn't available in medium but I still ordered one. (I like the dragon pens too). The only M nibs are in a set of 3 nib units in XF, F and M. They don't list the D5 but the eBay seller, esybuy, assured me that they would fit. They are the same as the 1860 Max, 1837, 660 and N8.
I waited for the pen to arrive and good thing. This nib is definitely M, bordering on B. I'm really happy with it.
Chrisrap52 has a link to a booklet for the Qin Dynasty. It's in the description of a video titled Hongdian Fountain Pens-An Overview. He has been around for years, it's safe to download.

I would like to try M, too. I just got my gold 14k nib Qin...I should compare the two. 😀
I saw Chris's video. Nice details.

I think the red - blackish is Ruthenium plated, but i only say that from the looks, maybe i am wrong, i don't own one.
    Nice writing btw !

Very nice comparison! I have to say that with gaudy gold, Hongdian are all in. Cf. their gold nibbed 100! Enough bling to gratify the most venial commissar. (I have the silver-colored 100). It would have been interesting to hear your take on the Hongdian vs. Wing Sung gold nibs. I have a No. 5 Hongdian gold nib which, while not vintage flex, writes with the most delightful bounce and line variation. ... I did my chaplain residency at the University of Virginia at the time of the transition from paper charting to an EMR, EPIC. I miss paper charting! Somehow, it felt like a more personal investment.

Thanks! The gold is plenty. The ones I have are steel nib, the one is good plated. They both write better than the wingsung heartbeat gold nib... and better than Bock nib that Asvine puts in p136. They are a tad dry for my liking, but easy giz 😀.
I do wish paper notes were still a thing.

Thank you for the great movie. How can we purchase the green pen shown from 5:17?

Great video! If you buy those pens locally, they will come in a wooden box. The overseas sellers just sent me a pen wrapped in a bulb bag to save weight.......

Mine came in the usual Hongdian box. The god nib one [which I shall review] came in a special box.

Does your nib feel a bit dry as mine?

Depends on what ink I put in. I have had good luck with Montblanc irish Green and Midnight Blue, not very wet inks. Also, you can spread the tines a bit and, most of the time, it will be wetter. Cheers .

A very heavy pen, review says nothing

07:09 I do mention the heaviness after comparison with Toledo. However, you are correct that if you are not used to heavier pens, it may be quitenheavy. Best.
