Montblanc Homage to The Great Gatsby Special Edition Fountain Pen --- Close Look-- Review Coming Up
Here is a physical examination of the Great Gatsby fountain pen by MB. I really like the pen as a whole. The clip looks like Lamy but is much thicker and springs delightfully. It is growing on me :). I will do a review in a few weeks.

    Hi Shak.Just curious, why do you like EF nibs?

    • @Shak-MD
      @Shak-MD 3 години тому

      EEF... It is unforgiving of little imperfections, it can make perfect loops, and gives my simmering to improve on every time I write. It demands a feather touch. It works well, even on cheap papers. It shows me every time I write, how much room there is for improvement. Of course, I do love my whale oblique nib, too :). That is why I even got a Namiki Emperor and a pelikan m1000 ground to ef. Hope that answered your question.

      @@Shak-MD many thanks for answering my question :). I do love EF Nibs as well almost the same reasons as yours. I think the thinnest nib I've tried is the Pilot Kakuno in EF (seems to write like an EEF). A month ago, I sent my MB Writer's Edition for a nib exchange from F to EF. I tried the EF nib of the normal 149 in store and I quite like it. I noticed that the Writer's Edition F Nib writes thicker than the normal 149 F. Hope I wont regret my decisions. I will only see my pen again in December 24' or probably next year. Anyways, Thanks and Have a God Day! :)

    I'm pretty new to this hobby (only have a Diamond 580 and a Lamy Safari thus far) and want to get a Vac pen. I tend to do long writing sessions, either journaling or drafting for novels and short stories I'm working on. I've been cross-shopping the Asvine v126 and the Twsbi VAC700R, now this video put the Asvine V200 on my radar! The Asvine pens seem like a better value when just looking at pricepoint and looks, but I haven't been able to get hands on any of the three pens to determine how the quality compares. That said, honestly the main thing that's appealed to me about the Vac 700R (besides that iridescent titanium oxide finish on the Iris, and my good experience with the Twsbi brand thus far in my diamond 580) is the...'platform' and 'system' type experience that Twsbi seems to have made--for lack of a better phrase. Their replacement nibs come in those very aesthetically pleasing red capped storage vials, and seems like it would work really well with my desire to hot swap EF and Stubs so I can have headers and body text for my writing. Also, that screw-in VAC 20a inkwell looks so sweet paired with the VAC700R. But then I just watched this video, and when you showed the Pineider Traveling Pen Filler, and the VAC 20a almost seems like a gimmick in comparison. How would you compare the experience between the two, if you have any? Also, any recommendations on my broader decision, of v126 vs v200 vs VAC700R? Is the extra price of the Twsbi worth it? also, I love your approach of swapping nibs, and upgrading inexpensive pens with really high end nibs. Would love to work my way up to that in due time! Thanks for the video!

    • @Shak-MD
      @Shak-MD День тому

      Thank you! 580 is a great pen. V200 looks a bit more classt. The TWSBI nibs are consistent and good for the most part. Asvine nibs are also good but on occasion need some tuning. I'd take v200 over 700r on account if being overall the better value. The pineuder inkwell is easier to travel with and is cheaper. V200 takes bock 250 housing , which can accommodate many different nibs. I would pick it over the other options. All the best!

      @tonydeveyra4611 День тому

      @Shak-MD excellent information. Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. It helps guide my buying decisions a lot! Oh one last question -- would you recommend ordering the v200 with the bock nib off Amazon? Are they much better than the stock asvine nibs? It's $10 more.

    I would really like to own this one, but your cons are sobering. I’m a relative newbie and have experienced no adverse situations with my ten pens that would require service. Can you guess what is the likelihood of something going wrong with this pen? Would Pen Venture take care of it do you suppose? Pen Venture has a variation of this pen but I prefer the silver color of the titanium rather than the blue color in the similar version. I think the blue argues with the ink colors inside the pen whereas the silver colored titanium titanium does not.

    • @Shak-MD
      @Shak-MD День тому

      This is a heavier pen. The likelihood of something going wrong is moderate due to fragile midsection. I say as pretty as this pen is, around 250 to 300 is probably a better price point for it - after a year of use. I wish they made one with proper clip. The new kyuseido pen has a faceted cap. Still, it is not a 600 dollar pen.. For the money, I would endorse a pilot 845, pelikan m1000, Sailor kop, or a used MB 149 over this. hope that helps.

    I’m enthusiastic about these pens but I can’t figure out where to buy them. Pen Venture has variations of these pens but they are blue where these pens have the silver of the titanium. You must have robbed your own expensive much more pens to put their nibs in the Asvine. In my case, the Asvine see through appearance is an acquired taste I have yet to acquire (!). But out of curiosity what nibs can you actually buy to put in other pens?

      I really like Kaigelu nibs from Amazon. You can also buy Hong-dian nibs that are great. Esterbrook also sells their branded [Jowo #6] nibs. Jinhao makes a bunch. You can find Montblanc 146 and 149 nibs online and through some pen shows. You can buy Wingsung nibs online, and of, course, Bock nibs are out there for sale. I personally swap nibs because certain body fits my hand better than others. And it is lots of fun, and life is too short :) :) Hope that helps.

    Hi there, I’ve started retraining my pen hold and I’d like some advice. How would you describe your pen hold? I tried one where my index is straight and my thumb is supporting like yours but I couldn’t quite feel a secure enough grip to consistently write cleanly. I have another style which I’ve used for about a year now since I started my fountain pen journey. I’ve graduated from Jinhao to Lamy, to Montblanc 146, 144, and 221 but watching my dad use his new Waterman Carène that I got him showed me that perhaps my grip is childish and simply restrictive, even though the writing is clean and elegant I still have that feeling that I’m wasting my time by not learning the proper way.

      Growing up [I am 39], I always got heck for holding the pen too tight....I still do on occasion get heck for it. However, What I have learned, is that as long as you learn the letter forms and strokes of handwriting, and practice enough, you can be holding the pen as you please. I am in disagreement with those who advocate strict ways of holding the pen. It is meant to be a joy...not a chore. I am done with hold homework days, and now I write as I please. Indeed, my work does not require me to write much at all, and my writing is pretty much all for joy. I hope you find this useful :) Write on !!

    Y'know I was just about to buy a handful of jinhao pens and extra nibs to learn how to do nib grinding. This is pretty cool to see.

    My vehicle pen for the Bock 250 nib has always been the Kaweco Supra, but after watching your video, I’m really inspired and now want to upgrade to the vacuum filling system. I have a small question: I often change nib units before the ink is fully used up, so I’m wondering if it’s possible to do this with the vac filling system on the V200? Will there be any ink splattering due to pressure changes? FYI, I can’t stop watching your videos! I wish I had found your channel before I started buying fountain pens.

      Ahh! Thanks my friend. You can operate V200 nib units with ease without mess. Just close the shutoff valve, or not tbh. Very convenient. Even the better Gravitas vac fillers allow for "hot swap". I do that alllll the time. Thanks for watching.

    I think I prefer the Majohn nib to the custom Mont Blanc one!

      We have the same impression. I also thought the Majohn nib is very worthy nib. Simply amazing, for what it costs! Thanks for watching :)

    The P139 is on my list. My favorite in the Jinhao 90xx line is the 9013. I have two and they are very good writers, right up there with pens that cost 50 times as much. I have many expensive pens and they're great writers, but these Chinese fountain pens are what will be kwwping the fountain pen hobby alive because more people can afford them and they are, for the most part, good pens.

      I completely agree. I think the 9016 is the perfect size for most people. I have yet to try 9013. 9019 is great, but a bit large for most.

    Have similar nibs from Sailor, bought them some 20 years ago. Sailor used to bring this old nib dude to the NY & DC pen shows. Had some crazy nibs. Bought a few, lovely ebonite KOP's as well. Those were the days, now it's all about........
