No, that's stupid. I'm not sure if you're caught up to the manga or not, but with the way things are going, seeing Foxy and the Davy Back fights come up again is kind of likely to happen. I mean, if [spoilers for the manga] Wapol can become an important character again, so can characters like Foxy and Enel. I think it's the animes fault for ruining this arc. It had a lot of great character moments but the anime ruined it.

@@elviswilliams1131 The anime version should have been 5 episodes long including Aokiji while staying true to the manga - an all would have been fine. What we got is an extra-long arc that did do the opposite it should do to Luffy, Usopp and Robin while completely missing why the Davy Back Fight begun and how it should have ended (in the the straw hats don't take any of the highly sought shipwrights that weren't even clearly offered in the anime).
It’s mainly because of the extra three filler games the anime added. If it was just the three games they had in the manga, it would’ve been a better arc.
Something I noticed while watching one piece are that the (pre-timeskip) arcs that are considered ‘bad’ (Skypeia, Long Ring Long Land, Thriller Bark) are actually good, just hurt most by the pacing. LRLL and Thriller Bark are very humor based arcs, while Skypeia is an initially inconsequential seeming arc with alot of build up and tension. The new series should solve the pacing issue allowing these arcs to be better enjoyed.
Online fans mostly don't know what they're talking about. They're watching it for their own agenda, skypiea was okay, but I get is a wanting to do sometging. While long ring long land and thriller bark just go with the comedy with an interesting parts of the story getting big.
This is why I don’t watch the anime and just stick to the manga. Poor pacing and filler in the anime would drive me up the wall. There’s no such issues with the manga. Particularly Skypea is a fantastic arc if you read it.
@jarosbodytko6462 The skypieans, shandorians and priests are pretty meh, and the whole save town goal was done way less interesting here. The setting taking place mostly in a foresty area was a letdown too.

Oda doesn't do anything without reason. Long Ring Long Land may seem like a filler arc, but it's setting up things without you realising. This is the Grand Line, where a minor antagonist nearly beat Luffy, and after facing someone entirely out of his league shortly afterwards (which you either didn't mention or didn't get to?) Luffy is very aware of his weaknesses and failings.

Usually upon first watch/read, people don't really understand how much this arc contributes to both the world building and the relationships between our crew.
Such a shame there are so many who can't see past the wacky exterior.

So watch multiple episodes of things that don't matter to get to a fight that shows Luffy being outclassed(its already been shown twice with Enel and Crocodile)
And the next arx does that even better when he then learns and unlocks 2nd and 3rs gear
100% agree! I didn't regard Foxy and his story importance at first, but after some age and experience, it turns out his presence had far more narrative weigh than I was seeing.
After Luffy smacked God around, Foxy was the first of a string of dominoes that kicked the main characters in upgrading their arsenal, and leading to, for me, the best arc of One Piece.

Long Ring Long Island arc might not have any real definitive moments but it was nice seeing how the crew interacted with each other during these simpler times. Sooo many comedic character moments between the straw hats, & The birth of the Zoro/Sanji rivalry.
Also Robin was really starting to feel like part of the crew at this point, I genuinely feared the straw hats losing her in the Davy Back challenge

@@RychuAlolan yea after some filler episodes about the strawhats losing their memories and a re-run in with the foxy pirate crew on a completely different island. Since the encounter with Aokiji didn’t happen on Long Ring Long Island, I didn’t necessarily consider it apart of this arc but more like the start of the Water 7 arc.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene where Zoro tells Chopper to grow a pair. Not an emotional moment, but it's one of many that shows why he deserves to be Vice Captain.

On a real ship maintaining order and stopping mutiny is way more important than being able to swing a sword really hard.

Obviously part of why it is seen as filler particularly by anime onlys is because the anime version is more than 50% filler and the single most impactful and plot critical moment. Aokiji shows up, creates an ice bridge to allow the old man to rejoin his people and completely wrecks the Straw Hats. Has been moved to the beginning of Water 7 instead of the end of this arc to accommodate two additional filler arcs. The changes to accommodate non-canon events are woven into the story so they can't be skipped or ignored and drag down all the material around it so that even the canon material feels like filler.
The thing is One Piece is a great setting for filler arcs, it is so easy to add another island in between their canon adventures. G-8 is pretty much the best example of this ever because it's expertly written to not interfere with the main story while at the same time reinforcing themes that are really important in Water 7. However, they essentially stop doing filler arcs and episodes moving forward and start doing a great deal more mid-arc filler and padding which is frankly, just the worst. "Hey you remember that emotional flashback? What if we repeated it 40 times in this arc."(40 times is not an exaggeration by the way.) In very recent years they have gotten better with their mid episode filler, as Oda is noticeably more in a hurry and has more events happen off-panel than ever before and the anime has started focusing on padding by expanding on off-panel stuff. So that some parts are legitimately better in the anime but the padding and slow pace still drags the whole thing down and I'm extremely grateful for One Pace and the remake coming soon.
This arc is fantastic and it is still important years later. Zoro and Sanji's dynamic is still built off their team up in this arc

I liked Long Ring Arc. It gave the crew a chance to relax somewhat after so many crazy adventures and it had some great moments like Zoro's speech to Chopper, Moss head's rivalry with Crap Cook, Funky Luffy, and the HORRIBLE flag Luffy made.
This arc is my favorite it arc. It must be read not watched. It's the last arc where we see the straw hats being involved in a fun low stakes adventure (and also the only time we see the crew fighting an other crew as pirates on equal footing).This story is so incredibly funny, I used to carry with me the foxy arc with me every time I travelled because I knew if I would feel down, that would be my feel good moments despite having read this arc more than any other arcs. The anime did it dirty, One Piece must be read before all.
Long Ring is the "lets play Lose Crew members", Just to prepare you and lets you think about actuallay losing Crew mates.
It helps rising the tension for things that will follow.
and at the end?the straw hat still get the crew back and another hundreds new crews and Luffy abondoned them!wow this arc is So changing!but yeah no offense here,i actually kind of like it...i dont know man after 2 islands of straight island-country conflict i started to need a break and Long Ring Long Land arc is the arc that give me a break

Ennies Lobby and Water 7 are two of my favorite arcs so I'm glad you're taking
your time with Water 7. Those two arcs plus Thriller Bark are my favorite three of the series.
I really enjoy this arc. It's so much fun. Even the filler! I love the roller derby, how Luffy is so excited to do it multiple times only for the reveal that he can't skate _at all,_ all building up to the triumphant music playing when he finally manages to stand up without falling over. I know fans just want to get through it and reach Water 7, which I totally understand since Water 7 is probably my favorite arc in the whole story, but...
this arc made me laugh near constantly, I very much enjoyed it. after the constant high end threats the straw hat crew had kept going through it was nice just to see them goof off with a little bit of risk now and there, plus i Liked Foxy i thought he was charismatic.
As much as people have problems with this arc, its so important to the pay off of the next 2 in thematic and literal ways, it mirrors many moments by the end. It's also really not that long.
one piece is known for it's freedom and fun spirit. arcs like this are nice breaks after bigger arcs. it's a show meant for young teens. my kids and I have been binging it. the little mini arcs that are not to serious are great at giving the audience a break emotionally and get us laughing. if everything was high stakes 24/7 it'd get old quick.

Skypiea : the world expansion lore (don't skip it, it's literally Robin's first adventure and a good arc to know where sanji lives)
Long ring long land : Battle of PIrates (literally it's the first arc to feature zoro asking for help, so please don't skip the shit)

I legitimately know people who thought navarone was a cannon arc and long long was just anime filler. Just goes to show how well written navarone is and how..people dont realize long long was a subversion for the heavy shit that was coming
I love g8 cause the leader of g8 is straight up the most organized marine force that I've seen exist in the show, they aren't strong but they are smart and capable. (Had they had people on par with Luffy and crew in terms of strength they would have won)
Also there is that singular double agent who ruined the commanders otherwise near perfect plans more then once.
The problem with Long Ring Long Land was, that it came after a Filler, felt like a Filler and was followed by another Filler while at the same time have a character in focus everyone dislikes.
The purpose of Long Ring Long Land is to have happy lucky go fun ride instead of going straight through water 7
Yeah, I looked back at where it took place to see how long it lasted, and it probably doesn't help that it followed what many seem to consider the best filler arc and was followed by an arc that was way shorter in comparison, which ended with a *second* run-in with Foxy
I distinctively remember liking the Foxy pirates, because, when I watched as a kid It was kind of threatening that these masked goobers basically took hostage members of the crew with dumb games, I kept imagining they would appear again later and I liked them.
Also, the first time, I missed the reason why they HAD to play the games, It was like an excuse.
I actually thought this would heave CONSECUENCES because IMPORTANT I didn't know how long the show would go for (I remember thinking at one point, the build up for Ennies Lobby was the ending) It's something to keep in mind, like, THAT was a thing.
Long Ring is a good argument towards not skipping the G4 filler arc in the anime. It makes a better next step after the straw hats fall back down to the ocean from Skypeia. And the Long Ring arc views better without the pressure of following up the highs of Skypeia.
G8*
The G8 filler arc is the only saving grace for the anime in this part of the story. Until today I'm not sure if the teams for this arcs weren't switched by mistake. One created a filler arc that is so good that it can be seen as nearly canon. The other adapted a canon arc so bad that it is now very close to filler.
The thing with G8 is it is canon, since the ship damage is important in Water 7 and Foxy is more like a filler since later he is in every filler that is really a filler, but the foxy arc is a more humorful preparation for Enies lobby and loosing crew mates.

I think the way the anime version changed the LRLL was vastly understated here. It didn't just add more competitions, it also completely altered the consequences of the games in ways that were OOC and annoying.
i loved this arc so much! ive always wanted to see another davyback fight and i think one would be the perfect way to have luffys crew vs shanks crew finally happen. Its friendly, we can have ussop vs his dad, we can get zoro and sanji vs beckman and lucky roo, and not to mention the sweet captain battle!
One of my favorite things about G8 is Jonathan's connection to Akainu. It adds credibility to Jonathan as a threat while Humanising Akainu in ways we don't get too much of. Seeing someone so laid back and kind to his men in contrast to Akainu's impatience and wrath makes for a really interesting foil. I wish he were canon.
Long Ring Long also has filler built in making it even longer.
The thing is that long ring long land has a bunch of potential hidden lore of the void century

Perfect example of Character focus arc and it's just FUN
Foxy is a great foil to Luffy and the crew and each of them gets a shine
Either Chopper, with Zoro's speech
Robin with her vibing more and getting more accustomed to the crew especial after her dream was reignited in Skypiea
Nami and Usopp as a duo, just as much in comedy than strategy and tactics
And Zoro Sanji as the two pillars learning to earn each other's respect and trust solidifying that bond
And OFC Luffy's unwavering drive to not lose a single member of his crew
After Vivi calling him out in Drum and bits and peaces here, this is his most defining moment as a captain yet
All of that with the everlasting goof of the stpry almost Tom and Jerry-esque with the wild goose chase and tricks
What I love about Foxy is that he's a foil and complement lo Luffy. He cares about his crew and his crew does have a lot of respect for the straw hats, but unlike Luffy he's not in it just for the fun he wants to WIN. And despite the competition of it all, there's a lot to appreciate of him when it comes to how much he appreciates his own crew.
And as happy as I am to see him after the timeskip, I wish his crew caught up with him and he wasn't still sailing the dingy that he was left on last time hahaha
For me Foxy Pirates are fine to me especially the Tandem between Sanji and Zoro, Afro Luffy Outfit and the Introduction of Admiral Aokiji hell yeah but overall it's mid to me and after that Water 7 Saga is Amazing 🔥
I actually found out recently that this arc is longer in the anime with 6 events instead of 3, or two rounds instead of one. I read the manga so there’s some anime only I missed out on…

Long Ring long Island gave us the iconic Afro AND Zoro and Sanji showcasing their abilities as a TEAM. Oh and cute Robin and Chopper Moments
i enjoyed the ark on a second watch even more, knowing what was going to happen next , it was a nice rest from all the heavy stuff allowed me to se the crew dinamec while they are having fun when there is no real danger before they get seperated again.
Long Ring Long land was a short burst of comedy in the manga punctuated by „oh shit, Luffy isn‘t as unbeatable as I think“ and then „oh my god, this admiral could kill them all with a fart“. Apparently it got stretched into oblivion in the anime? That‘s a shame.
Long Ring Long Land is great, and will end up being seen as a lot more important in terms of foreshadowing once people realize one of the major events in the finale will involve Luffy and Shanks having a Davy Back Fight.
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up either Afro Luffy or Aokiji in the video since they tend to be the most memorable parts about the arc.

I literally just finished this arc last night before bed for the first time and I have some thoughts. Obviously not my favorite arc, but it was still fun. I was just as frustrated as the rest of the crew when Luffy agreed to a second Davy Back, but that honestly made the arc more fun. There were a lot of good moments, none necessarily bad. Zoro's speech to Chopper, the Zoro and Sanji team up, Robin got more opportunities to show how creative she can be with her devil fruit powers, and of course, Afro Luffy.
What I didn't expect from this arc and that I ended up really liking was just how close Foxy was to beating Luffy. I mean, I knew Foxy would lose but seeing how close he got to actually winning really reminded me that this is the Grand Line and anything can happen, even a minor antagonist almost beating the guy who just literally beat up God.

After recently getting through this Arc I also found it pretty entertaining. I just viewed it as The Straw Hats getting ambushed by Waluigi and tricked into playing Mario Party with him. Also getting to see what a Gear Six Luffy would look like by the end was cool too.
HXH 1999 has a filler in the hunter test and people think it is part of canon because how much good it was

This arc is incredibly underrated. W7 would not be half as good because this arc lulls you into a false sense of security.
At the moment while we were at this arc I also wasn't feeling it. But in the gesamtkunstwerk of One Piece it is very important.
A lot of people specculate that the point of Long Ring Long Land was to introduce the Davyback fight as a concept for it to come back in a big way later on. Time will tell how much of a filler arc this actually was.
Can't lie i freaking love long ring long land. I dont know if it was cause i skipped G-8 but it grabbed my attention and did not let go especially seeing Afro Luffy. To anyone who hasn't seen it in the dub, do it right now cause the accents they did were peak!
I recently reread pre-timeskip OP after only watching the anime and when I first watched long ring I hated it, especially after how slow skypiea feels in the anime. However on my reread and loving skypiea (jumping from a 8.5 to a 10) I decided to actually read long ring instead of skipping it like I was planning to. And it wasn't as bad as I remember tbh. Probably because I wasn't binging and needing to know what happens next. I realized the main problem I had with the long ring was that it was more annoying than it was bad, the strawhats could've easily won all of the "fights" if they cheated like foxy but didn't when they are literal pirates so it shouldn't matter. Besides that it unironically had some of the best moments between characters like zoro and sanji working together and zoro's speech to chopper.
The difference is that you read it this time. The anime version is a really bad adaption.

No, it doesn't make "fans" quits. It makes "people who don't understand One Piece" quit. Long Ring Long land is legit one of the best arcs of pre time skip one piece.
It's the arc in which Luffy realizes how easy loosing crewmates is (to foxy) it's the arc in which Zoro and Sanji start to respect and trust one another.
It's the arc in which the admirals are introduced. And don't get gazlighted by people telling you Foxy is weak. Foxy put on a good fight against Luffy. Yes he cheated, so what ? Luffy didn't fight any differently that how he usually does, and so did Foxy. In a fight were they both gave their all, Luffy almost lost.
Like holy shit. It's a good arc, it's fun and it carries major things for the future of the series

@@f.carasind4188 Nothing that made anime only quit the only mistake they made was reducing the fillers. The theme is here about crewmates losing and playing a game also they did a good job of putting in extra fillers so we saw Robin being a crew member and they did a good job adding another filler so the Water 7 could be more devastating to watch it.
@@gaminginvirinch3339 I know of at least two anime onlys that had to convinced to watch further because they hated Luffy in this arc. They couldn't simply believe how he treats the lives of his crew members here and had to be convinced with the manga version that a "real" Luffy exists.
The theme of this arc also has absolutely nothing to do with games but much with the concept of comrades and "heart over reason". Luffy agrees to the game only because the horse was shot (not in the anime here he is simply an idiot). Luffy takes Chopper back immediately against Nami's advice to take Foxy to win the entire thing (in the anime he let's his friend in the hands of the enemy to choose a horse against all rules). Anime Luffy agrees to a second match despite already having experienced of losing a friend (manga Luffy would likely have killed him for this). The straw hats are especially presented with the much needed shipwrights in the manga but decline them. The anime made this a mass event where nearly all of Foxy's crew should now be considered at least honorary straw hats for a short time because they were in the crew for a very short time. Luffy fought against Aokiji well knowing that he had absolutely no chance. All of this events lead to Robin loving this crew for their "heart over reason" approach and doing it herself in Water 7 with the deal with CP9.
I'm rather sure that most anime viewers notice that something isn't right with this arc but they don't know why. One simple reason is that next to nothing is left intact from the manga - besides Zoro/Sanji which many people like. Even the first race is changed to make it a mass event instead of a more focussed competition with Usopp, Nami and Robin where Usopp can show his value before Water 7 (the anime robbed him of this as well).
And I'm a clear advocate for more filler but please not within a canon arc. Nobody would have had any issue if filler arcs (maybe even with Foxy) were placed before the events of Long Ring Long Island and after the fight with Aokiji. I also think that the mistreatment of this canon arc was one of the reasons why filler became so rare after it.
I got all that from the arcs ahead of it, and some of that even before it. It's just not a great arc to watch the anime. I probably wouldn't hate it if my initial experience was the manga. The reason people recommend skipping it is because, besides Aokiji's surprise appearance (I would never recommend skipping that in particular), the Davy Back fights are entirely contrived. Sanji and Zoro always argue, but always have the interest of the crew in mind first.
Davy Back may have been the introduction to these things but every arc afterward does those concepts much more effectively. This is because japanese storytelling relies a lot of retelling things. And when the overall story retells the same themes and demonstrates them repeatedly, I would say that this introduction to those concepts was just plain sloppy, **in the anime**. The manga is less of a headache even if I wasn't enthused to re-read it.
Your OP videos are so good to watch bc you, as a newcomer to the series, get it. There's so many people focused on battles, power slacing or plot progression that dare to discard Skypiea, Long Ring Long Land and the fillers despite being perfectly fun and good despite their obvious issues (except Skypiea, that arc is masterful storytelling).
Can't wait for more videos.
The Long Ring Long Island arc is a good arc, For me at least, I've always been amused for nearly 20 years of watching and rewatching the show.
Honestly, at this point it can make them only skip but not quit anymore.
Long ring long island is only cannon because because Luffy misheard mero mero as naro naro in Amazon lily, JUST FOR THAT BIT!
Finally, someone who doesn't rag on the the other filler arcs of One Piece, yes everyone loves G8 but the others are fine. The good thing is that they never last too long so it breaks up the more hype action with goofy fun times. Though if the Longring Longland arc has a quality meme, it's gotta be the sheer awesomeness that is Afro Luffy! That afro increases his strength you know?
P.S. you need to update your arc roadmap, cuz we be knee-deep in the one after Wano. Thems the breaks.

I don’t understand why people skip arcs especially in One Piece. The anime is the only show where I don’t mind watching the filler.
Because we want to catch up with one piece without boring add ons that won't come back. I'm here on one piece because the fans promised that everything comes back and matters. So i say it now, fk the fillers. Except for g8

I don’t find them boring. I’m sure a lot of people do though and that’s fine. It’s understandable if people find those fillers boring. Sorry for this long paragraph
It’s a weak arc but necessary after Skypeia & before Water7, also i think it’s a fun arc 🤷🏻♀️

I say...watch all of it. If they included it, trust in the creators. They didn't do me wrong for 200 episodes so far.
LLRL was bloated into oblivion compared to the manga. There was no second round of the game (we only had rafts, Zoro/Sanji human capture the flag, and Luffy/Foxy duel on the ship, no roller derby, no dodgeball, no red light / green light), and the admiral is the one who sends the old guy on his way before he starts kicking the crew's butts. And while the arc is silly and dorky, there are themes touched upon here that will come back bigger and badder later (in particular that cfrew members can be lost). On the other hand, G8 is perhaps the best filler in the history of anime.
I liked G8 because it was chill, we got to see unusual strawhat pairs while they do stuff that works well with their character and suits them outside of combat and adventure. And the marines there were a nice change of pace from the usual we see
the foxy arc on the other hand I just found annoying and at times even frustrating, I knew it was pointless and wanted it to end fast

Hmmm, well Aokiji did appear in LRLL arc and I've seen some epic meme edits of "Oh my, another pretty lady with super big bazoongas," so I would say it still has one memable form of material.
When you realize that Foxy's slow slow power is essentially OVER POWERED and the only thing that's stopping him from slowing down ANYTHING for 30 seconds is his own fragile ego. Imagine it, he only does small things like cannonballs, people, or natural events like stopping waves. All to satisfy or help him.
Imagine this... Someone is dying and he can give them more time by slowing them down to figure out a solution to save them.
Yeah I don't underestimate "ANYTHING" in one piece. Do I find him annoying sure. But like you said in your previous analysis if you can get someone like that on your side then you've already won.
I think this arc is okay (neither excellent nor awful) and I could understand why someone would have it as their least favorite. What I really can't understand though is why someone would hate fishman island. enjoyment of the villains aside, the arc is really good when it comes to the themes and the excellent backstories it brings to the table.
G-8 is what filler should be in every anime ever. The filler in Long Ring Long Land is what should get people fired
Honestly I think both were fine. Long ring long land wasn’t great by any means and could even be considered bad (not me though, I personally consider it enjoyable) but it gets way too much hate. People make it out to be terrible but it’s really not as bad as it’s made out to be. Also unpopular opinion but g8 was my least favourite filler arc 😅 sorry for the long paragraph

LRLL, *in the manga*, is amazing. The filler added to it is mediocre to awful, and the extent of filler added to it, including the extra Foxy arcs, makes the whole experience *REALLY bad*. And I stand by what I said, it's the kind of filler that should get people fired, because I know it's factually driven people away from the anime. This is what MY OWN personal opinion, not what "people make it out to be"

G8 was honestly one of my favorite silly parts of one piece and my favorite filler by a bunch and i want it to be loved more then it gets
I like Long Ring Long Land well enough. It's a nice break and needed to make Water 7 hit harder. Though I admit I only reread LRLL, I haven't watched it in the anime since it first came out. It's one of the arcs that would really benefit from the Netflix anime reboot.
I promise Long ring land is going to be the most important arc

I legit think that the fights are the least important aspect of One Piece and I'm convinced Oda doesn't care about them nearly as much as the average One Piece fan does and as much as they think Oda does. The man writes about character and themes first and foremost and thank fuck for that. OP wouldn't be nearly as good as it is and would've died 10 years ago with all the other shonens of its generation.
I love LRLL a lot but it makes me so sad to see how the anime handled it. It is so boring and drags of for so long. More than half of the arc is filler in the anime.
Con D. Oriano's level is only on par with Buggy D. Clown, Gaimon D. Bush, Down D. Stairs (Kuina's mortal enemy) and one more you'll get to know in Dressrosa. Don't you dare disrespecting him!
i dont hate long ring long land. but i dont like it either, and i think its placement is very unfortunate because you get the sequence of "wow, skypiea was cool but i sure am glad to get back to some normal pirate stuff" then you get the absolute peak of G-8, the best filler arc ever before being forcibly sidetracked into a comedy based tournament arc. i think if long ring long land was before skypiea both it and skypiea would get much less hate, but im not sure how that would actually effect the story overall and it might have consequences i haven't though of.
LRLL has 3 memorable memes that are enough for its length in the manga:
1. Old guy offering Luffy some milk, and then saying "I can't find the milk, but here, have some cheese"
2. Nami proposing they took Foxy for winning the 2nd competition, winning the 3rd by default and immediately recovering Chopper, Robin pointing out that if they did that they would end up with Foxy as part of the crew, and everyone, including Nami, agreeing it was a really bad idea
3. The unparalleled power of Luffy's Afro

This is fun arc. Yeah, sure compared to Alabasta or Water Seven it might not seem like much but you need those little arcs inbetween the big ones to breathe and Long Ring Long Island is the perfect arc for that. It’s just fun. Nothing wrong with that.
