    If you are a) able to draw perspective well b) able to draw to scale well c) able to duplicate shapes in perspective and to appropriate size you are probably an artist and can make things like this look great. My biggest obstacle to drawing like this is a, b and c..... my stuff looks weird because it doesn't fit reality... I envy those like Ian that can sit down and bang out a drawing/painting like this in 30-40 minutes.

      Yep 💯, It's the A B C's. If not for them I would enjoy drawing/painting immensely 😢

      It’s okay not to be good at those things, there’s nothing wrong with if you’re struggling with it. Every artist including Ian and people even more technical proficient than him has had to push through rough drawings and mistakes.
      Please don’t let that stop you. Draw and paint what you like so it’s fun, play with reference, and play with perspective. You WILL get better.
      It’s easy to compare our selves with others we admire, but remember they have been on their own unique journey and we don’t know just how many years and decades they have been drawing for. One thing is certain though, when they started they struggled too, and they doubted themselves too, and they asked if they’d be as good as the artists they looked up to. And they may still feel that way.
      So don’t give up if you don’t like the way drawing came out. It’s progress. You’re getting closer and closer to where you want to be -And It will come. So make your journey fun for you and celebrate how much you’ve grown.
      Keep making stuff and practicing perspective! You got his.

    I have so enjoyed this workshop. And after trying Ian's tutorial on the vintage truck now 3 times, I am ready to tackle the boat. The colors are so vibrant and the instruction so clear. I can't wait to dive in. I even ran out and bought an acrylic rigger brush after hearing him talk about how much water it holds.

    By far, Ian is one of the most creative artists with a unique style and ability to add soul to the subject with his choice of colours. Its amazing!
    I have seen quite a few of Ian's videos. They're always amazing. Also he is a good teacher and inspiration for all esp. beginners.
    The pretty interviewer (sorry didn't get the name) with a smile and pertinent questions helps in the education.
    Thanks a million Ian! Keep going!

    using ink and watercolor splashes is really trendy with 'urban sketchers', not sure that most even know it's derivative of Steadman.

    When watercolors are put over water soluble markers how careful do you need to be not to effect or mess up the marker lines or shading?

    • @larryjenks4078
      @larryjenks4078 Рік тому

      Water soluble markers do not play well with other water media. You really need to avoid the water soluble linework when you're doing the watercolor part. Or do the linework after. I know you weren't asking me, but I have tried this and I know the answer.
