Excellent comments about working from photos as well as experience actually out there at the scene. Reminded me of our experience in Lucca with tourists looking over our shoulder and taking photos of us sketching as a group in the workshop. Then we all sat around outside a cafe to work on our sketches together. That’s what I remember most about that day!
What an amazing, intelligent, articulate artist and teacher Ian is. I just learn so much from him explaining his process, as well as watching his tutorials. Love his unique style and his encouragement that we all find ours.

Love this ‘conversation’ style of interview

I recommend to viewers to consider joining a local urban sketch group if you can. All levels and all welcoming. Safety in numbers and just plain fun!
Great advice! It's wonderful to sketch in a group and meet people who enjoy the same things :)
Your 'style' emerges through lots of practice, practice.
