From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Lee as John LaMarr (FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), Mark Jackson as Isaac (“That Royal Today”) and Chad L. Coleman as Klyden (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”). The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

#TheOrville
The most terrifying Sci-Fi episode I've ever seen.
Sure, she _could_ tell her world that they could do better. She could also get ten million downvotes for doing it.
Have you seen similar Black Mirror's episode: Nosedive?
All it takes is one small step. We see that at the end of the episode when she turns ofd the television
That world would definitely be on my genocide list
@@АлиМагомедов-я8э why do you have a genocide list?
@@moncystuff6089 well because
This episode actually made me sick to my stomach... I couldn't physically watch it because of how REAL it is...
You are right, this is already real in some countries, see the video: China's TERRIFYING Social Credit System.
@@tokenlau7519 I think brexit is a better suited example.
@@HermanWillems I don't see why. China is doing exactly that. See the episode of Black Mirror Nosedive. And read also the article: "China bans 23m from buying travel tickets as part of 'social credit' system".
JSeedProductions My thoughts exactly! Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing this planet get destroyed by the Krill.
It's sickening I don't do facebook I woud get the sack if I wanted to actually state my mind in a so called democratic state as in the UK !
this episode was nuts. It really puts things into perspective especially with almost everything on the internet, like how businesses and actual people are rated by a score system now.
also it was like reddit in 3D form.
watch Black Mirror, episode Nosedive,
cartoonfan959 I’ve heard about that, it was much discussed after this episode came out
It's ok for businesses to have a score system. The only consequence is more or less business. People even have a score system, such as credit rating and criminal record. The problem is personal score systems based on legal behavior or behavior that should be legal, and real consequences arising from that. China already has this system. And as we all know, it can be used to do crazy things, from taking peoples pets away to limiting their access to things like shopping and travel. In China, you can literally be banned from public transportation for having a low social score. And the punishment could have nothing to do with what got you that bad social score to begin with. So for example, if you make enough unpopular speech, you can have all of these things taken away from you. But it's not a system run by the people getting to vote for it, it's a system run by a government, that can be weaponized arbitrarily against anyone at any time. Just a few clicks and they can turn a normal person into a nobody shunned by society. And they do it every single day, right now.
And the worst part (other than the punishments), is it's a system that only really tracks things it deems bad. It doesn't really balance the good against the bad. So you can do all of these good things in society; you can be polite to everyone, hold doors, allow people to pass you on the road or street, feed the poor, etc....and none of that is factored into the score. So it's a system with only "down votes", that punishes but doesn't reward. The only "reward" is not being punished.
Happens in china and in the future in democrat run usa
@@peoplez129 this goes against human nature, if you really think about it.
When you look at social media and how it affects everyday life now, unless we make some simple but major changes this is exactly where we are heading
That may apply for US, but not all countries. Also, voting over the internet live would be a disaster, and I don't think it will ever happen (not sayin there isn't a moral story to this episode)
I am curious, not being condescending or anything but what are those changes? In your opinion? I’d love to hear that.
Let’s not kid ourselves, if someone tried to give me a downvote, I would just run away😂 😂😂
This show is an absolute gem! I never know what to expect when I watch a new episode and I'm always blown away by the story telling!
I know it’s a cliché, but this is modern Star Trek done right.
This is the scariest Orville episode
Its happening in China and will start this social credit system next year
Because it's relevant.
Firestorm is scarier, but this one comes close.
I thought this was the best episode of The Orville I’ve seen. Very relevant to today’s social media culture.
my favorite episode...so scary that this is the direction our civilization is heading.
This, I think, would be considered a "classic"! Excellent story and message!
This episode introduced me to Black Mirror. Thank you The Orville!
Is this a show or a documentary? I freaking love the Orville.
I want to take a moment to give thanks to the street vendor. Guy saw people without badges and just gave them some
The not so far future of earth ;)
This is not future, in some countries it is already there, see the youtube video: China's TERRIFYING Social Credit System.
It's already here! See what Canada did to Don Cherry!
I’ve loved the whole 1st series of The Orville, it’s only just finished in Australia. Looking forward to series 2.
Season 2 is almost here!!!!!!
This is why we live in a Constitutional Republic. You should never want to live in a Democracy.
Democracy vs absolute democracy. But yes, we live in a Constitutional Republic.
This is where we will be as a society. Thank you, Seth amazing episode
We already are, China is the best example for its Social Credit system which works much like this
Everyone in the country should watch this episode because we're there.
Touched a little close to reality! I think we're all headed this way soon!
So Orville has finally come to denmark. Long after star trek discovery came. I am one of the few who kinda like star trek discovery. But Orville is a gassilion times better. It is so much closer to the star trek spirit.
Okay, okaaaay, OKAY! *THIS* is my favorite episode!!! Are ya happy now??
'Do better' 😆🤣
That one probably person set in motion a change to a different world.
And today we had the fist of this on twitter. We can’t go down this direction
i love Orville
Oh my gosh, I'm more excited about the new season than Christmas. ..well, almost! 😍
This episode depicts a world in which Facebook has a dislike button. I wish it was available for sharing on our REAL Feed so people could get a grip on their own real, vs virtual world.
The Orville the best
Best episode.
So I went to the Fox site to watch. I clicked on episode one. A graphic came up: "Geographic Restriction. This content is not available in your location." Really? The high plains of western Canada is not a suitable place to watch "The Orville"? I would really like to watch this show but it seems Fox is having none of that.
This episode has literally come true.
am a huge fan off the orville and majority rule Is one of my favourites.
when I was a child I read spiderman vs superman it was a marvel and dc universe crossover.
and I hope maybe in a future season they might do a orville and star trek
universe crossover.
it could be the orville goes into the star trek universe or the other way round.
maybe make it into a two part special.
if both studios agree to it off course.
PRETTY MUCH
the social media
If only this wasn't some Star Trek thing. I thought the whole Upvote/Downvote was from a movie. Kind of like how "Time is Money" is a concept of In Time
0:31 this part must have been written by Greg Gutfeld lol
hope we can see LYSELLA again
cartoonfan959, that prospect personally strikes me as unlikely. After what almost happened to John there, I wouldn’t want to go near that planet again. Lysella, however, is indeed a very pretty woman.
@@brianvincentdoucet4273 and she’s back!
Where Can I Watch This?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Democracy simply doesn't work - Kent Brockman
Science fiction gold.
We do this with money & status now.
How did this become real, and nobody noticed?!
Scary close to reality in some places on our planet.
Was that Major Hayes from Star Trek Enterprise??
Hey Scott, I just subscribed to the channel :-)
There is a lot more of censorship here. Perhaps the exaggerated self righteousness and simple mindset of the crew is not intended as ironic humor but only a mere reflection of… another reality 😂😂😂
2021 in a nutshell
Bout time. . .
Hold on. . . I've seen this one.
Bollocks. 10 million down votes!
Gosh this episode of the Orville felt like they were on Black Mirror: The Planet
This still didnt come or did it
People are talking about China and ignoring how this is how social media affects lawmakers and institutions
It was kinda annoying how John wasn't taking any of it serious they should be use to worlds with strange ways of living
This episode was a nail biter. Very reminiscent of the Black Mirror episodes "Nosedive" and "Hated by The Nation".
You know I hope we revisit this world. I'm really curious about the people who have 10 million up votes on this world
Probably he rich as Jeff
Reminds me of druggind a kid with adhd & Aspergers with dexmethylphenidate inducing hallucinations
A chemical spanking that made them more prone to nevitivity as well as a loss of motivation
Hello
Get your shine on
This whole story is not unlike the era of the Roman Gladiator Arena. Where a persons fate rested in the audience or in some cases the leader in charge.
uh, it's meant to be our current era, where social media can character assassinate you and destroy your livelihood
@@Fear_the_Nog well its true about the social media part but this is more like the old gladiator arena because if your popular you fine if you not your dead. With our era they might tweet bad things about you but its not goinf to affect your life. Your not going to be executed as in the arena.
Felt a bit like a copy of black mirror.
A sociaty ruled by Twitter. It is kinda scary xD
That direct democracy for you.
Democracy isn't scary at all. But if you look at our social media with all that fake news, popularism, hate and trolls, you can see why it is so dangerous, to have such an unstructured democracy. And that is even mentioned later on in the series, way back in season 3
@@bombenlp You have a point there. Popularism? Do elaborate on that one.
Sorry, i think I got the wrong word. I think its Populism? I'm not quite sure, since english isn't my native language...
@@bombenlp what is wrong with populism
"re-education camps"
My favorite comments are the people who don't know the difference between the events of this episode and people facing consequences for their actions.
Entire planet of america?
Welcome to Reddit.
Reddit planet lool
I hope that this will never happend in true life
Why does this immediately set me thinking about the 2020 election?!
Hurry Up already, by this rate, I'd have Warped for out of range of your single,... Get a move on already.
Hey, Alien, did you leave the iron on at your base on Earth? Better get back here and check. You wouldn't want to come back and find your Earth base burned down would you😉✌🖖👍
Yarp, season 1 of the Orville was much more fun to watch than Season 2.
The humour in Season 2 sucks, and the whole TNG feel is off the charts. Ugh.
*PS : Just repeating myself , season 1 of Orville was ok. :) and Season 2 blows chunks.* tyvm.
They're guys. Comment 80
Disturbingly on the right point with only one huge issue, those people should go extinct so long ago making the episode unavailable
You know that Will Ferrell movie, Stranger Than Fiction and Harrison Ford's Ender's Game? What if Reddit was like that and people actually lived or died based on votes and we were unknowingly a part of it?
Democracy with Islam!
This episode was literally a snapshot of American "culture".
I may be the only person who actively hates lamarr
If Reddit ran the world
This is what would happen if Reddit had a space program and colonized a planet to build its own civilization.
Reddit irl
This could be our world if we let the majority of Twitter users rule us...
reddit in a nutshell
I bet this is how trump sees Americans and it's media
nah joe biden remember hes a democrat feelings get hurt
Thats the future under democrats.
I have a real problem with this episode, because the 'social engineering' system is just so poorly designed. It's weighted towards negative votes, meaning that eventually everyone will hit 10,000,000 downvotes. This is because Upvotes seemingly do nothing to reduce the amount of Downvotes, and each person can vote more than once. It's a badly designed system that I don't believe could've become so culturally ingrained.
boomer episode
The episode fails the moment he does the stupid statue thing. It's a dumb plot convenience. They needed something less ridiculous- it's sooo obviously a set up and not believable that he suddenly starts that nonsense and won't stop. This show has too much stuff like that. And way too much ruining plots with awful unfunny humor that destroys the tension. It's riding the Star Trek coat tails so everyone forgives the dumbness. Especially given the offensive wokester awfulness that is currently destroying the Star Trek legacy. But this show is mediocre at best. It isn't original in its plots or characters or premise. Humor is it's one original thing and that's so poorly done it ruins many an episode. I want to like it. But they need to get someone outside their bubble to give input or something
How long have you been watching?
Are world will be like this very soon
Two years later this episode becomes a reality for the vax/non-vax population.
