    From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Lee as John LaMarr (FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), Mark Jackson as Isaac (“That Royal Today”) and Chad L. Coleman as Klyden (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”). The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

    Such a powerful quote right there.

      Those kids were being raised to become the enemy of all non-Krill. Only one of the children was even questioning the teachings. If anything all Mercer did was give that one child more proof that humans aren't soulless.

      Not really, it's totally obvious. I don't understand why Ed had a problem with killing Krill children, and sending them back to their parents makes no sense. Yeah right, like the Union would go along with that. If they send them back, the Krill will just continue to indoctrinate them and mold them into killers who will only take more Union lives. It would've been best to let them die with the rest of the Krill, or failing that try to assimilate them into Union life without the rules of the Krill. Show them the alternative.

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 6 років тому +5

      Lucas Akame Exactly, they were being taught to hate non-Krill by their own kind. Nothing Ed did actually radicalized them. They were already heading down that path because of the Krill adults. That Krill woman spoke that way because in her mind it just confirms her bias that humans are soulless.

    • @KneelB4Bacon
      @KneelB4Bacon 6 років тому +20

      I agree. The critics are literally incapable of imagining an upbeat, utopian future, because for the last 15 years, the studios that make sci-fi have been giving us nothing but dark, violent, DC-EU style wankfests. They don't know how (or don't want to) make movies any other way.
      I think the reason for that is simple corporate laziness and greed. If a studio wants its movie to sell worldwide, then it's best to keep it simple. No complex ideas, no social commentary, keep the story as minimal (or non-existent) as possible and don't offend anyone from any culture. Giant robots punching each other fits that bill perfectly. Explosions, punching and boobs doesn't need a complex story . . . doesn't need translation or interpretation.

    Love The Orville! PERIOD!! And for those worried about one thing, it is NOT, REPEAT NOT "Family Guy in Space"!! Well written, some lighter moments, but mostly very well done, serious Science Fiction that deals with serious subjects.
    Yes, Ed (Seth) has a goofy sense of humor, but as he said in"The Krill"; :"'I'm just trying to lighten the mood here. I'm scared off my a$$!"

  • @blafasel5331

    The most important part about this summing up of the voyage so far is the amount of comedy it contains: Zero, zilch, none, null (well, expcept for the brilliant Reality TV resolution in "Command Performance"). The Orville is deeply serious about telling actual Science Fiction and everybody needs to understand this. The gags are NOT at the center of this show. This compilation is good news because it is proof that the network understands.

      I'm calling Bullshit on Volga Wolfhounds's post. This is just another ST:D fanboi who's butthurt over The Orville being so much more popular than Discovery. ST:D is television for cats - Lots of lens flares and movement on camera to keep the eye interested. And shallow plots and bad writing to keep the mind from having to think so much. Volga's grasping at straws to find complaints about The Orville. Everybody knows that if there's only one person on the ship recovering from eye surgery then that person should just wear sunglasses. There's absolutely no reason (other than bad writing) for everybody to be working in a dark, gloomy ship.
      It's just sad that ST:D is so bad that it's fanbase can't handle competition.

    • @hannesgroesslinger
      @hannesgroesslinger 6 років тому +6

      @Volga The first episode was a very bad representation of what the rest of the show is like. Especially in terms of comedy. They changed the show a lot between the pilot (which was shot a lot earlier) and the actual series.
      The pilot was a comedy show of questionable humor with some scifi thrown in, whereas all the other episodes are really a serious scifi show, where the characters like to make some jokes every once in a while.
      You should not judge the Orville by only the first episode, you might be missing out on something great. Pick any other episode and give the show another try. If you still don't like it then thats totally OK with me.
      I just don't like people complaining about how terrible they think the show is, when most of the issues they complain about have been gotten rid of after the first episode.

    • @Rathkryn
      @Rathkryn 6 років тому +1

      _"Someone doesn't like a show and you become hostile? ...Just a suggestion, maybe you could absorb a bit of that."_
      rofl. Just a suggestion, but you should work on your reading comprehension. You thought the first episode felt awkward? Well good for you. Of course it could simply be that the awkwardness was intentional as it's always awkward when you start a new job. But what does any of that have to do with Volga's bullshit in his post? Absolutely nothing. You even admit that Volga is wrong. But you see me disagree with someone and you become hostile and try to sugarcoat it with passive aggressiveness.

    I am hopping for many more episodes. It's worth it. I just ordered the first DVD set, because we can not watch it here in Canada YET.

    Better Trek than that other Trek. This show has great stories, characters who you would like to hang out with and a "universe" you would want to live in. This trailer of scenes from the first six episodes shows that, even without the humor, it is a far superior to that venereal disease of a series another studio is trying to sell us.

    This is so great--and I can't believe I didn't see this synopsis until now. Absolutely a fantastic way to sum up one of the greatest shows in sci-fi today. It does everything right. Seriously. It tackles issues of diversity, racism, religion/faith vs. dogma, personal rights vs. "what's right" and if that is actually truth, it deals with what makes us human and if there is something really ineffable to that...
    To sum up, this *is* the next Star Trek and it's an absolutely worthy successor. Well done Mr. MacFarlane, well done!

    This a fantastic trailer, but I do wish it lacked spoilers so it could be shown to folks who are on the fence with the series. That said, I can see how including those important moments might help to show the depth of the storytelling. I would imagine that is also why there’s a lack of comedic moments shown, as well. Overall this is a very slick, focused trailer for my favorite show of the season. Bravo!

      It does make a better trailer for what the Orville is about than the original trailer. Funny is money, I get that, and I understand the initial need to bring over Family Guy Fans, but if you want someone to get a feel for the show then you would only need a few clips from the first trailer in this one and it would be perfect.

    The Orville is a great show! Closest thing to TNG since VOY. Yes it has more humor than most Star Trek and it cant use the same names, but it has the heart and soul of Trek. Those who understand what Trek was at its core, (the optimistic vision of the future, the ensemble cast of likeable characters working toward a common goal, the social commentary in thought provoking episodical adventures) know that this show has all of those things while STD has none. STD is Trek trying to be something else entirely and succeeding brilliantly ... at not being Trek.
