Telling Lysella to tell her world that they can do better is all but guaranteeing her correction. It's a nice thought, but 1 average person trying to change such a civilization is borderline impossible.
@@Vydio 100% agree. It's a small step, but a HUGE one. It's also one that she could encourage others to do, and thus hopefully have an impact without risking correction.
So, basically if you have an opinion that the majority of people don’t like, no matter how small or trivial, could end up with you dying?! So, if I have an opinion about a movie I don’t like, but others don’t agree, anybody could just downvote me and could end up giving me the death penalty. Jesus, I feel bad for fans of the Star Wars sequel trilogy on their planet
Yes, as corny, silly and funny as this episode was it was also disturbing, creepy, and scary. Total democracy is every bit as oppressive in its own way as total dictatorship is.
My god this show is good, its like modern day star trek but so much better, im willing to bet that seth mcfarlane had enough of how they were bujtchering star trek and wanted to create his own take on the property without owning the rights and my goodness he did such a great job, the comedy, concepts and world are so incredible and the characters are so well fleshed out as well even the blob dude
1. Leaving out teleportation was a great idea. The whole "beam me up" thing is so iconically Star Trek that it helps make the show different. 2. I posted above that I love that they left out any silly plot device like the "universal translator" bullcrap and unlike Star Trek even had WRITTEN English and numbers on this planet. I love that they just told an allegorical STORY without worrying about realism.
Imagine this happens in our world and we downvote the electric power plant that supplies us the electricity or downvoting a food company while eating their product. Edit: I mean people dislike these for environmental and heath hazards but they also cannot live without them.
It's already happening in China, except government are the only ones allowed to vote. That would be the difference, it would not be our peers affecting our social credit score, but the government. It's also being implemented here in the U.S to an extent (thus far), so I do agree with your assessment.
@@DeplorableArabgouvernement are not the only one because people can denounce to have good points and that will also negatively affect the “bad people” who had be denounced
Cool idea but.. what happens after the final vote? He’s already at almost 10 million downvotes, and that seems like it’ll go on his permanent record. Will he still be corrected at 10 million? Does he need to be prosecuted again for it to happen? Will they revote?
Yea this guys inability to controlling himself and access the seriousness of his situation made things way worse for him. I almost lost it when he taunted the guards at the end. Moon them from your space ship leaving earth but at the moment SHUT UP DOOFUS! 😂
Risky AF. If he questions her about it, she'll have no idea about anything. It would be like when the talk show host asked Lamar about Mella Giffendon. Then if word spreads that she tried to lie and say that she did practice his religion, she'll have the same problem he had.
As silly and corny and kind of FUNNY as this episode was it was also um... kind of CREEPY. There is something kind of ORWELLIAN in a society where a person can effectively become a 2nd or 3rd class citizen or even be imprisoned or executed for getting too many "down votes".... This episode makes China's "social credit" system seem tame by comparison.
Irl this wouldn’t work cause people could just have their friend give them many upvotes or you could just put your hand over your thingy so nobody could downvote it😭
I LOVE this episode, its my favorite of all 3 seasons. Here they take a shot at the China Social Credit Score, the US Cancel Culture and the Climate/Vaccine Social Score they are trying to impose: this is what GOOD SCIFI does, challenge reality with humor and creativity and expose the bad ideas of the ones in power.
Not gonna lie this could probably solve some serious problems here like if we all agree that big industries like fast food oil, gas and trade industries are bad and we put it to a vote. We can get rid of them.
Aside from dramatic license, snowball effect. If all your peers (friends, family, colleagues) downvote his action, would you speak out in his defense at risk of getting downvotes yourself? You probably will stay silent and allow the downvotes to mount as you disengage from the situation. That's why I'm guessing in a world filled with presumably billions of people (21st century earth), only 10 million downvotes are needed. That said, they had a mission to stay low profile, and what did he do? Dance with a statue in a public forum. He should have been sent back to the ship immediately after they saw people filming him. His presence jeopardized the mission. They may not be military, but c'mon... orders are given, they have military ranks... even civilian experts get dressed down by military if they do stupid crap on a mission.
i stayed away from this cause it felt too wannabe star trek(and i was right) but this episode is talked about so much i had to see it. absolutely shit writing. Ship studies planets and the navigator has no clue how to keep a low profile just because its earth like, stuck in the 21st century, and is like old earth. all there problems could have been solved by simply stating they were from less developed part of the world but writers didnt have the brains to write a reason why that wasnt an option despite the show stating their in a country.....which suggest othet countries exist. poorly contrived commentary about how popular doesnt mean correct.
