    Great video Ott. I’m a Carolina man and another tip would be instead of the tape ( especially if you have small hands) only fill your reel spool halfway. And if you are short don’t use a long rod(I skip with a 6’-10” rod)

    Thanks Ott for the skipping tutorial and the story about who taught you. You learned from one of the best! I'm going to save this one to refer back to. See you at Bussy Brake!

    I do more wading than anything and the only thing I can skip is a frog usually. You boat guys have us beat on that

    All I know is I keep trying, but it ain't easy!🙁 I can't afford the true skipping bait casting reels, so what's the best setup reel if it isn't a true skipping baitcasting reel. Ratio? Line test? Drag setting? Best Rod length and power? I can skip a spinning reel setup all day long, but trying to do a bait casting reel is tough. I know I need to practice more, but I need to get the best setup advice.

    Hard to master I’ll tell you!!! I’ll go at it for a little then get frustrated and move on usually. Maybe I’ll give it another try with your tips!!! Thanks

    Is there a certain weight line & type that works better for skipping a 1/2 ounce bait? Example : 15 to 17lb or smaller line & braid compared to flurocarbon? Appreciate you. 🙏 👍

      Everyone likes different things and has different preferences. Personally for me, I prefer 25lb-50lb braid, 3/8 - 1/2 jig, chatterbait, or Texas rig unpegged, no brakes, no spool tension whatsoever, no matter a 60$ Walmart reel or 250$ daiwa I skip this way.

      I’ve found the zero mag brakes diminishes left shooting baits/skips, and personally for me skipping is based on thumb pressure on spool to regulate line, and match that with a parallel-to-surface rod tip I’ve found this the best way to process and practice skipping

    How do you set your reel up for skipping

  • @nflisrigged1395
    @nflisrigged1395 Рік тому

    And if u bird nest , just pull all the loops up , up up ....
    Just keep pulling it , you can get em out . Find knot and pull up pull up , it'll come off .

    What rod is that?

  • @jerrycandelaria8845
    @jerrycandelaria8845 3 місяці тому

    Maybe you can answer this question I've asked a lot of people and nobody seems to know you indicated you are left-handed you are using a right-handed reel I believe that is correct you are using your strong hand to fight the fish with the rod and your weekend well it's built for the gearing system in the real but everybody seems to have it backwards a right-handed real means you put the rod in your left hand which is your weak hand and you use your strong hand to run the gearing system which was built for your weak hand

    • @OttDeFoeFishing
      @OttDeFoeFishing  3 місяці тому

      Yes it is kind of confusing. I am left handed in that I write with my left and eat with it. I bat, swing a golf club (not well lol) right handed etc. I don’t know what is correct per se but this is what works for me. It is good to learn to cast with both hands. My left is stronger and can set the hook better with that hand. Hope this helps!
