How to Clean PS5 Fan and Remove it! (Fix Loud FAN Noise)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лис 2024
- Do you want to know how to clean the Fan on the PS5 and remove it? This is very easy to do. The PS5 can have a loud fan from all the dust collecting and making the fan spin louder and faster. To fix this, you can take out the fan and then clean the ps5. Take off the face panels and then use a t8 or t9 security screw driver to remove the fan. You don't have to disconnect the fan from the ps5. Use compressed air to clean off the PS5 and blow off the dust. Use a vacuum and clean out the dust traps and use the microfiber cleaning clothe to wipe down the fan blades. ...

Did all of the above and no issues now. Appreciate it. There was quite a bit of build up on the fan. Most likely the cause of the issue. Super easy to break it down and clean. Don't be scared to do it! Thanks for the walk through
😊
I had anxiety thinking I had to clean it eventually but this video made it really simple and easy so thank you
I would have played until something came up and taken it to a repair shop but after watching this demonstration I feel I can do in on my own too which will be more timely and doesn't take much time either. So glad to see they made the PS5 a lot easier to get to parts for servicing. The PS4 was a whole other story and I was frighten to opening it up.
Cleaning the fan without removing it is kind of impossible, didn't know it's that easy to remove it, thanks alot man
I'm having a hard time taking the vent piece off to get to the screws

Thank you for this video ps5 was turning off after 3-5 minutes used this video to clean it and she seems to be running smoothly now
Did anybody come here after their ps5 just gets too hot and turns off while playing certain games ?

Yes. Especially when just watching UA-cam or Netflix or anything else

Thanks! I was worried that I was going to mess up the wire of the fan, but everything went well.
My biggest fear til I came across this.
THANK YOU so much. This is the best video on UA-cam on how to safely clean your PS5 (Launch Model) fan..
I’m to scared to take the fan out lol.
Update today 2/23/23 since everyone keeps saying it’s easy , I have already cleaned it , and taken it apart , but thanks for the Dozens of replies saying it’s easy
Don't be
I literally just did it then on my own. Easy.
It’s easy
same feel like i’m cutting out my babies heart or something

Commenting to add to the algorithm. I came here to figure out how to remove those vent pieces when I was cleaning and didn't realize I had enough wire to set the fan aside to clean it instead of risking removing it from the board it's on, which was what I had planned. Great video and kudos to Sony for the design/engineering.
Perfect video thank you ... was dreading doing this ... done in 10 minutes.. kept shutting down and realised its not apex
Good vid, but an easy way, buy a small fine brush (kindof like the ones used to paint corners of interior walls) the fibers will go deep enough to scrub the fins and knock the dust loose, take your time on both sides and use a vaccume to catch the rest. This way you avoid breaking anything. I did it two days ago, fan looks brand new.
I did that and bought a can of compressed air. Both combined did the job and a quick vacuum to remove and bit left over
I just did this today! I was terrified I would break it, but this was easy to follow! thank you man
I took out the fan and cleaned it thoroughly and I cleaned whatever I could put my hand inside the ps5 and literally my ps5 does not shut off while playing ps5 games anymore. Thanks for the video .
We’re you get screwdriver from cuz I got t8 n t9 I can’t get last screw by the fan plug

This video was amazing and very informative! I will be doing exactly what you demonstrated in this video to clean my ps properly. Thanks for the video! Earned a sub for sure.
Thank you so much man I was terrified to take apart my ps5 but this video made it all the more easy
just seen this video today. Definitely have to do this very soon. My fan is caked up with dust. Just ordered the T9 Screw driver from Amazon.
Thank you for actually going screw by screw and what size went where. I didn't know they were different sizes until i went to put the fan back in and didn't keep track at all.
Very simple video. I thought it was going to be a nightmare but got it done a lot easier than I expected. Thanks
Thanks so much man. Gained a subscriber. Got my PS5 for 15 months and dust was starting to be unpleasantly visible on grid and part of the fan. Followed this, and now is as clean as new. The only part where I struggle was removing the front plate.
Important: the screwdriver that fits better is a T8 security torx. To clean the fan properly help yourself with canned air and a dust catcher to reach the tricky part between the blades. I used the screwdriver to help me push the dust catcher deep between the blades. Hopes this helps!
Very simple straightforward video cleaned my fan and PS5 no more “ps5 too hot message”
Best video I've found. Ty. Armored core 6 getting my ps5 so hot it crashes.
Thanks you fixed our ps5 much appreciated x
I thought i had to take the fan out by disconnecting it but it seems i don't. thanks for the easy to follow video, i cant wait to get stuck in and clean her up. My new internal ssd has been shutting down the console so i assume its over heating and needs a good clean out. It never once shut down before i installed the ssd.
Thanks, I might have forgotten the screw order when reassembling 😄.
I will say my strategy was slightly different...my fan was caked. I used cotton buds (q-tips) to loosen the dust, then one of those low power car vacuum cleaners to lift it. Took a while but I can confirm it still works after reassembly 😀👍
Great idea!! I used the q-tips to clean the fan and it worked great, no need to remove it.
@@morning.cereal Nice one! Glad it helped 👍
Brill, I've got a lil cleaning kit and I usually just take off the plates and dust what I can. This helped me massively 😁 fanks 😁
I am totally cleaning mine tonight. You made it look so easy. Thanks

Is this part paintable etc

Update:
Yep a breeze !
Thanks again
Awesome how-to video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 helped me out big time, so thank you
Great video. One input - a T8H torx is the optimum screwdriver. T8 or T9 are ok, but they can damage the screw.
Help bro I tried both T9 and T8 and it won’t unscrew any of them
You need a T8 Security , or it might not work @@Tk-ug8tg
You need a security bit T8, it should have a hole in the centre of the bit@@Tk-ug8tg
Great video. Very easy to follow and cleaning the fan is that easy.
I say easy, I cleaned two PS5 and really struggled with the smallest of the fan screw (bottom left of the video). I stuggled to remove one and couldn’t the other. Not sure if it’s a design problem - can’t be a coincidence that the same screw wouldn’t unscrew.
Great video… i just thought i’d let everyone know how i cleaned the fan with out removing it … i got 2 straws and wide masking tape and put the straws in the bottom of the vacuum hose and taped it up so the straws had suction and pushed it into the holes of the fan to suck up the dust .. it wasnt perfect but it cleaned the majority of the dust ..
Thanks man ps5 was getting really hot n lagging a lot this helped cheers 👍
5 design is extremely user friendly i remember the day i cleaned ps3 and couple of years later 4pro .lot of hassle to just reach the fan . The need to be completely disassemble to get a cleaning.
Cheers mate, simple to follow. Cleaned mine out
Didn't know it was that easy 🤔 gonna have to try this on mine. Thanks!
did you have a hard time taking the vent piece off to get to the screws
@@josephhooker3796yes I cannot take the top off
I don't have the specific screwdriver, but I just ordered it on Amazon. Will be able to clean my PS5 tomorrow thanks to your video, yay :D
What's it called
T9 securit screwdriver
Was really helpful this video and thank you for doing it step by step but honestly can you show another video doing the stage 3 cleaning? I know there's other ones but I trust you cause you really explain everything good.
If you don’t have the right screwdriver setup for the fan screws, then you can still get the job done by using an air duster spray can to spray the blades. and you can catch the dust with a vacuum hose. Usually the top back vents of the console.
Try to spray only in the direction the fan is supposed to spin.
No no no no no no. Please god nooooo.
That will literally break your console 😭
@@Noah-rd5ri how?
@@deejones8552 vacuuming creates static which can literally fry your entire PS5, you're never supposed to use a vacuum anywhere near the internals of electronics
@@Noah-rd5ri oh ok thanks.. I'm running out of ideas on how to fix my ps5. Can't play ps5 games without it shutting off completely. Pretty much used more then have a can of air duster to clean and it didn't work.
Appreciate the tutorial dude. Many thanks.
Sir, you are a scholar and a gent. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video it was quick simple and to the point and made it a super easy job, I was very worried when I first thought to take it apart like this but i made it work, this method works especially well if you have an extra set of hands to help you out while holding the fan and dusting!
Cleaned mine not too long ago and accidentally took a of the plastic of the wire off safe to say I’ll be using this method from now on
Thank you for the great video, every tutorial I've seen has them disconnecting the fan for no reason.
I've found you can use a small flathead screwdriver aswell. I disassembled my entire ps4 a few times with one, and resembled with no problems. It works the same on these to.
My ps5 just randomly shuts off on its own this possibly could be the fix ! Appreciate it
Its not just ur fan. Its tha Power Supply inside that most likely needs a cleaning as well...
You forget to blow out or clean out the insides for dust! There's huge dust bunnies in/on the power supply and the heat sinks inside the unit. Missing key elements here to prevent overheating, no matter how well one cleans the fan itself. Thank you for the correct screw positions though, and size of the driver/type.
Thanks for sharing this video I did exactly what you did and hopefully this works I cleaned all the dust off my PlayStation 5 and hopefully it won’t overheat and randomly turn off
Same thing been happening to me lemme know if it’s cos of dust thought mine was broken lool
@@l1--_--lucas659 yeah so far so good It’s blowing hot air from the back and in the front cool air I also had it on a surge protector with other wires I put my PlayStation on it’s own plug and it hasn’t turned off I’ve also been playing call of duty modern warfare 2 and my ps5 is holding up pretty good now thank god that was a scary moment I thought I broke it 🤦♂️

If you don't have the special screw driver use a pare of needle nose pliers and grab the screw by the side and gently turn it until it is removed, worked for me.
This video is so perfect! Its been since November 2020 since I had my PS5 I think it's finally time to clean it
Out of every console I’ve ever owned I never had a loud fan. It’s called preventative maintenance lol
Had mine since Day 1 of launch and there wasn't a lot of dust in there so probably wasn't worth the hassle for me but its easily done and designed to be cleaned without voiding the warranty hence why the sticker is not touched. Just thought I give people an idea to how much dust will be in there after this period of time, however it really depends on the conditions you keep it in and whether you do plenty of dusting around where it sits.
That’s amazing 😮 going that long and for it to not be a lot of build up. I mean… mine wasn’t the worst but it could use some dusting off. Thanks to this video, I was finally able to clean it and make it look brand new. I got a whole entire toolbox with wrenches, sockets and bits so I already had all tools necessary. Eventually…you’ll have to do the same or have it done for your PS5 too. No matter how clean, there’s just no escaping dirt/dust buildup.
I'm in the same boat, have had my PS5 for 3 years and never cleaned fan but now it over heats and pretty sure it's because dust build up. Ordered a torx screwdriver, should be getting it tomorrow and can't wait to clean it because it shuts off after an hour especially since it's getting hot where I live now smh
@@matthewtrhey did you end up resolving your shutoff issue? Mine is doing the same thing right now, will just shut off after an hour or so
Doesn't get as hot anymore either! You're going to be surprised at the dust build up inside hahaha
@@DreadBoi504 I hadnt cleaned mine since release until about half a year ago but I dusted the outside and its area and it was out in the open. I was surprised how little dust was inside it, the fans didnt even look bad either
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. VERY USEFUL AND EASY STEPS. ❤
Thanks for showing what screws went where
Guys when you doing this process make sure you remember where the screw go after you take it out
Opened today first time since launch week... very little dust, nice!
Better than cleaning the ps4’s fan for sure
Thanks for making this video I was able to knock it quickly when it overheated for the first time on me this morning.
Thanks for the step by step very easy and all done :-)
Short and accurate. Great, helpful vid. Thanks.
Thank you! especially on how to put the case panels back on! 😅
Great video but the biggest recommendation I can give is unplug the fan before cleaning it's super simple also be careful with compressed air it can cause damage
Why unplug it? The cable is very sensitive and it’s easy to break it if you pull on it plus the pins could bend if you wiggle it. Theres literally no reason to unplug the fan since you can access it while it’s still plugged in like he showed in the video…
Unplugging while giving a deeper clean has more risks involved, its better if your less experienced to just do it the way shown here
The second I showed my dad how many tools he needed he SAID no
Thanks for this video. You got my subscription 🔥
Thanks for this video I cleaned out my ps5 was really worry about the wire but it was alot easier with the video thanks
Mine wasn't that dusty just the fan blades and air vents were dusty after 15 months
No need to use compressed air just used cotton bud stick to clean fan no need to remove fan to clean fan cleaned air vents with cotton bud sticks too
Does it work with ps5 shutting down while playing games?
@@povyar having this issue rn you ever fix it??
@@beanaboy903 Did you ever find how how to fix that because i’m having the same issue now
@@ChristianHernandez-or9ts yes I needed compressed air, his way works but it didn’t last long also make sure the vents are pointing to open air
Thank you. I have sudden power-off issue. Took things apart and evicted some dust bunnies. Y’all make sure to look inside where the bottom would be. There grill is a grill there with tiny round holes that was stuffed up. It catches everything that flies into the ps5. But also chokes the air going to the power supply. I suspect that will solve my issue
Did it work?
@@jimmycorrales8835 not a single overheating/power off issue since. It worked like a charm and the ps5 been running for hours at a time.
Just pop that fan off and look inside to the power supply (bottom of the ps5 where you wild stand it on. Blow compressed air through the bottom bent to loosen the dust.

It’s means it’s more clean and it’s working as when it was brand new , no worries I saw a video of a guy that repairs stuff he clean it and said if you hear fan makes noise it’s common
Definitely worked
At 4:52 before you blow compressed air, make sure to cover the remaining open part of the pS5 with a cloth and then blow. That way you will not blow the dust back into the machine.
I wish there's a scratch remover for PS5.
The face plate removal was really dumb on Sony’s part
I'm planning on doing my first fan clean on my PS4 tomorrow so this is a very helpful video thank you. 👍
PS4?
Oh thank god, I don’t have to mess with the wires! I’d never have cleaned my fan if I hadn’t found out the wires can stay in.
9:43 "Now this is very easy to put back on". Yeah right. I caught my tail trying to get it back on. Just wouldn't click in. Lost count of how many times I tried. Was just about to give up and call a PS5 repair guy to ask him if I could come over for him to put the covers back on for me in shame.
By some stroke of luck after the 20th time I heard a click and it fell in place Amen. This was the cover for the disc side. The other side with the PS logo went in pretty easy though.
Unfortunately when I took off the covers I realised I didn't have the screwdriver for that type of stupid screw so I wasn't able to unscrew to get at the fan and clean. Guess I'll have to go looking for that and clean another time as per the tutorial. I wiped as best I could and sprayed some compressed air for now.
