The DR650 is the middle ground, reasonably priced, largest dual-sport, that isn't an "ADV" but works well as one. Not as dirt worthy as the XR650, not as street worthy as the KLR650, it's the goldilocks zone of big dual sports. Suzuki decided that bigger tanks, better skid plates, taller crash bars, were food for third party vendors to fight over. Hat off for encouraging the after-market suppliers. The KLR has some serious followers, but once a DR is modded to what a fully dressed KLR has, the price is about the same, and the DR with two inches more ground clearance, one and a half inches more suspension travel, air and oil cooled, with the same reliability, I can only believe people take the KLR over the DR because of brand loyality, as both are very wrenchable.
Jeff at Procycle stripped a mighty DR down to around 320lb curb. That's similar to s DR-Z400S or a CRF250L. It's close to what an XR650R weighs. Just a skid and knobbies make the DR pretty capable on dirt. The aftermarket can make it WAY better. Sort the carbing, upgrade the suspension, and shave weight. It'll still run slab pretty nicely all day too.
I have an xr650l and I've been really surprised by how well it handles everything for a 350+ lb bike. I mostly ride on asphalt, and haven't been out on a dirt bike in years, but so far when my adventures go south it eats it up. Large stone creek crossing, 3-4' near vertical muddy climbs out of the creek, and whatever else just fall under it like nothing. I really think the mega thumper dual sport is the sadly most over looked like style out there, and it's going to be a shame when the DR and XR fall to progress like the klr has. Be nice if they'd leave us grumpy luddites something nice. 😂
Nice ride. Could you please tell me how close to stock that dr650 is? If that is close to stock it is much more capable as is than many folks are saying. Thanks.
@@sundaynobody they were awesome until about 80% worn. They did great in the dry, wet and even snow. But once the tread wore down in the centre the edge lugs became very sharp and would fold over easily in turns. The front tire also scalped and would speed wobble near the end too. I got 4500km on them before they started misbehaving haha

@@farreachoutfitters oh, totally. Regardless, your out there riding brother, it doesn't matter how bumpy the ground is. Still, this has inspired me to do a weekend trip to the blue ridge to go crash my bike lol.... Thanks and stay safe dude
Suzuki should pay you for showing how fun and capable the DR650 still is :)
Thanks! I wish!
Listen bro im going to be paying them 😂
You really shouldn't be jumping a DR650. It affects the earth's orbit every time it comes back down
I’ll take that into consideration and try to shave some weight off, the bike and myself!
😂
Yeah agree, it may cause earth orbit leak

Momentum is the key.
I had major regrets getting a new DR650 when I knew I really wanted a KLX300, but this video makes me feel much better about my decision
klx300 much more capable bike and its and EFI....better suspension too, much lighter.........better bike than dr650 and same money....
@@Evil_Morty2000 it’s definitely a great bike!!!
DR650 will do everything and take you anywhere you will want it too
@@jackheinemann8780 that’s been the case for me
@@jackheinemann8780 yep,great bike,Jack of all trades,master of none.

Great vid showing the capabilities of teh DR650🏍🤘😎
Tractor factor baby
Looks like a lot of fun, I miss riding.
I can come out to your place and take you for a rip around!
Im trying to get back into it. I sold my sedan because i dont need a sedan
I love the DR and do similar stuff but lets be honest thats not close to hard enduro, light enduro as much, DR is very capable in the right hands
This is awesome to see. So excited for some single track this year.
After drz400, wr250r and tenere700 dr650 it's the best capable bike for what so ever. Cheers
Nice ride. Could you please tell me how close to stock that dr650 is? If that is close to stock it is much more capable as is than many folks are saying. Thanks.
I have swapped tires, and bars. Other wise the bike is stock. Mechanically stock and stock suspension. Full review in the next week.
Cool bikes :)
10/10 looks good
That is what I actually want!
Same that me and my XT 600 E💪👍✌
Love it:)
Take it on 5 miles of hell near Moab, that would be super cool to watch.
Way too far away Hahha but I’m looking for more challenging trails locally
Is the suspension stock? I can t decide to get a new klr or new dr. Because of the seat and suspension.
Yep suspension is totally stock. At the time of this video the bike was entirely stock other than tires, bars and front fender
@@farreachoutfitters it s very good. I still like the klr . The Gen 1 was 400lbs the gen 3 450lbs
Nice work and riding ! 👍 Was that a DR 200 that Jenn was riding at 2:05 ?
Thanks! Yamaha XT 225
Nice playground.
@ 2:12 thats actually a veeeery dangerous fall pure luck she didnt sustain any major injury
I 100% agree I was immediately concerned for her right knee. But she snuck away without a scratch

Cool vid, but that is DEFINITELY not hard Enduro lol!!!
I know haha but trust me it’s way tougher terrain than it looks in the video. Cameras never pick up everything

for motorcycles, its always the skills of the rider, not the motorcycle itself that makes the biggest difference
